Subject: Ronde Update - Sept 30, 2000
Sept. 30, 2000, Steelhead counts at Lower Granite Dam on the Snake River have been very good, with a couple days tallying over 4,000 fish, and fishing in the Grande Ronde River should begin on schedule in mid-October. The water level presently is low, at 738 cfs, but could rise if the approaching weather system leaves some rain. Water temperatures are excellent, sometimes in the 40s and never above the lower 60s. River flows in the Wallowa and Grande Ronde rivers are higher this week following five days of rain during the first week of September. Water color in both rivers is good and fishing remains fair to good all day. Larger trout are beginning to move downstream as the water cools and there is lighter fishing pressure as vacation season winds down. Anglers should expect to land 30 fish per day and on good days considerably more.
Water temperatures are in the 50s now, which is making the trout happy.
Grasshoppers are still a good bet mid day, caddis are abundant all day long and are better choices early and late in the day. October caddis will be on the rivers very soon and will stimulate some great dry fly fishing opportunities. |

Subject: July 23
The Grande Ronde River shows little change from the last month, producing a minimum of a couple hundred hits per day. Grasshoppers are the choice now and fish are looking for them all day long. The water level is dropping and floating will start getting bumpy, now, but trout fishing will hold up as long as water temperatures don't exceed the mid 70s. It will be weather related through August. Some rain or cloudy weather will hold temperatures down, but clear, hot days will stiffle trout fishing. Mac Huff Eagle Cap Fishing Guides |

Oregon Fishing Report updated for July 21 - July 26, 2000
Fishing was a little more consistent this week but you definitely had to be in the right place at the right time of the tide. The oversize opener in the sanctuary at Bonneville Dam was a hot one! Not much pressure either. Ocean coho and some chinook out of Astoria is not even a challenge. Sandy river, closed to springers July 15th, continues to entertain steelhead anglers. Santiam Rivers remain a prime destination for steelies and late-season springers. Deschutes is heating up for summer steelhead with hot native fish in the mix. Walowa Lake has big kokanee in deep water. Atlantics are hitting at Hosmer Lake. Surf Perch fishing is good, even for fly fishermen. Bottom fishing remains excellent offshore. Crabbing is good at Yaquina and Tillamook Bays. The subscription version of TGF has complete details and predictions for the coming week.

Oregon Fishing Report updated for July 14 - July 20, 2000
The Columbia is no scorcher but it is putting out limits in some areas. Oversize fishing is still taking place in the Bonneville area using floater shad baits. Sturgeon fishing is steady in the Tillamook River. Offshore coho, bottom fishing and crabbing are all rated as excellent. Bay crabbing is good. The Santiams remain best bets for summer steelhead and an occasional springer. The Deschutes has been hot for summer steelhead. The coastal streams and rivers have steelhead throughout the systems. No summer chinook have shown in the Nehalem as yet. The Clackamas and Sandy Rivers have steelhead and springers scattered. Cascade lakes continue fair to good for trout and kokanee. Shad continue to be taken at Oregon City, but the end is near.

Oregon Fishing Report updated for June 30, 2000
Here is this weeks information - June 30 - July 6, 2000
Sturgeon fishing on the Columbia for keeper and oversize sturgeon remains good. Keepers in the estuary, oversize in the gorge and not much in between. There are lots of salmon in the Clackamas and Sandy Rivers but you should be there early to catch them as warm weather and swimmers put the fish down in the afternoon! There is some good steelhead action on the Nestucca River- artificial lures only! The Santiams are producing well. The upper Willamette is well into moss season. The bite is fair at best in this section. Crabbing has been good on the Columbia but should turn poor with the high tides coming this weekend. Clamming and sturgeon fishing will benefit from the increased tidal influxes!

Subject: Good Fly Fishing This Week
Fly fishers will find good dry fly fishing this week on the Wallowa and Grande Ronde rivers where golden stoneflies are in the air from Wallowa to Boggan’s Oasis in Washington state. Over the weekend I landed 30 trout in a couple hours and missed 3X that many on dry-fly imitations. Most trout were about a foot, but I landed 15 and 16 inchers in the Ronde and broke off three nice fish in the Wallowa. In addition to the stoneflies are good caddis hatches. Nymphs are particularly good for the caddis hatches, with occassional good dry-fly action. Fishing is good all day, but afternoons seem to be best this week during the current cool weather system that is over the northwest.
