Subject: fishing and crabbing

my son lives at the jersey shore and enjoys crabbing very very much. I live here in Watertown, New York. Any ideas on how he can enjoy himself up here on the lakes. He asks if there are crabs up here but I told him only in the food stores. What kind of shell fish can he be able to catch, if any.
