Lake level - 163’ about 9’ below pool
Water temp - mid to upper 40’s
Watercolor - stained green to clear (good)
Crappie – Excellent – Excellent doesn’t really describe the crappie action on the north end of Toledo Bend right now. Limits of large slab crappie are coming every day now. Jigs of just about every color are working well. The best colors change between black, white, and chartreuse on a daily basis. Minnows are doing well for those that don’t like to fish a jig. Fish are still holding at about 12 to 14 ft deep in 20 to 30 ft of water where you find structure, natural or manmade. Seasoned and beginner crappie fishermen are both amazed at the pace and amount of crappie being caught.
White Bass – Good – large White Bass are being caught on the edge of the river channel on just about anything that looks like a shad. The river is full of bait and the whites are feeding up before the spawning run gets into full swing next month. Fish the edge of the river from the surface to about 10ft deep. Look for schools of shad on the surface. It seems the larger schools of whites are already moving north into the Sabine River.
Black Bass – Good – Still catching Blacks up to 8 lbs. Lots of smaller fish in the 12” to 16” range. The bass like all the other fish are hanging around the river and deeper creeks. Crankbaits, large spinnerbaits, jigs, and Carolina-rigged worms are doing the trick. Fish the edge of channels slowly with all of the above baits. Look for 6 to 12 ft of water on the edge with some shad activity visible.
Catfish – Good – Trotlines and tight lines with rod and reel are producing many quality blues and channels on or near the river. Flatheads are active on the edge feeding on bream and crappie.
Bream – Good – Some big bluegills are being caught on jigs and worms in 8’ to 10’ of water just off the bottom. There are not many people fishing for bream now since the crappie have been biting so well.

Crappie – Excellent – Limits of large slab crappie are common now. If you ever wanted one of those unforgettable catching trips now is the time. Due to water level and temp the crappie are congregated on the deep river and creek channels. Jigs of just about every flavor are working well best being black, white, chartreuse. Minnows of course are doing well for those that need that extra edge. Fish about 12 to 14 ft deep in 20 to 30 ft of water where you find structure, natural or manmade.
White Bass – Good – Lots of large White Bass are being caught on the edge of the river channel on just about anything that looks like a shad. The river is full of bait and the whites are taking advantage to feed up before the spawning run starts in a couple of months. Fish the edge of the river from the surface to about 10ft deep. Look for schools of shad on the surface, (with fear in their eyes)
Black Bass – Good – Some good size Blacks up to 8 lbs. are coming off the lake now. They just like all the other fish are hanging around the river and deeper creeks. Crankbaits, large spinnerbaits, jigs, and Carolina-rigged worms are doing the trick. Fish the edge of channels slowly with all of the above baits. Bream – N/A

White and white/chartreuse spinnerbaits and tube baits are working around flooded bushes and timber in the more stained water up north. Crappie are fair over planted brush and around standing timber in 15 - 20 feet. Catfish are fair on trotlines baited with live perch and bloodbait.

Subject: Sam Rayburn and Toledo Bend

I have been flip-flopping back between both lakes so I decided to make one report for both. The bass fishing is excellent on both lakes right now, the key is being in the right spots. At Rayburn the bass are stacked in the back of the coves. Many are moving up and are starting to spawn others are sunning themselves in the openings at the backs off these spawning pockets. The best bait on these fish have been Gambler Swacky worms in grn/pmk or junebug. I have been using a Fin-acky hook (weed guard/ weighted) because some of these fish are way back in the bushes. Other baits that are working are flukes and jerkbaits. You can still catch fish out away from the bushes in 7 -14ft of water on spinnerbaits, carolina rigs, traps and crankbaits but the shallow bite has been consistant for both numbers and size.
Toledo Bend is fishing very similar but there are lots more fish on the beds. The bite was a little slower this morning but began picking up at 10am and was in full swing by 1:00pm. Jerkbaits, flukes, wacky worms were the ticket today. Most of the fish caught came in 1-4ft of water that ranged from 58 -63 degrees. Once it got up to 63 the fishing was easy. We saw one fish that would have gone 9#s and 2 others over 7#s, maybe tomorrows clients can hook into one.
Yester we caught more fish on spinnerbaits and carolina rigs. We rigged inside grass lines in 5-8ft of water.
If you would like to book a trip on Sam Rayburn or Toledo Bend please email me or call 409-698-2227 and visit my web site at www.texs.com/allman GOOD LUCK!
