After trolling the shoreline the past month and water temps slowly warming, we decided to try the deeper water as I have heard good reports in many areas of the offshore bite improving. Having the advantage of three charter boats we spread out south of the harbor covering depths of 80 to 200 feet of water. The best area we marked fish was 80 to 100 feet of water, but trolling east and west coving different depths out too 200 feet worked well too. Water temps were 45.5 in closer and 43 out farther. We boated a mixed bag of Lake Trout, Coho Salmon, King Salmon and Rainbow Trout. Small dodger fly combinations worked well on the planner boards while Stinger and Yeck spoons took fish on the dipsy and slide divers. Good colors seemed to be the standard bright colored lures like chartreuse, orange and greens. The larger dodger fly combinations did well on the downriggers 50 to 70 feet down. Good luck fishing from all of us here at Dumper Dan's Charter Fishing Fleet of Sheboygan.

The official 2003 Lake Michigan harvest report has just been released to the public. The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources annually compiles data submitted by all licensed Wisconsin guides. In addition, creel surveys are also conducted at various boat ramps through out the state. The information is then used to access and evaluate the health and condition of our Great Lakes fishery. I have been tracking the results in the Sheboygan area for the past 5 years and have provided the results to the Sheboygan Area Great Lakes Sport Fishermen club for review. Copies of the report and a summary will be made available at all SAGLSF club meetings. This years report indicates Sheboygan area charter captains enjoyed another successful season. All indicators were up this year. The report shows 24 licensed guides fishing out the port of Sheboygan (same number as 2002). The Sheboygan charter fishing fleet reported 1563 trips ran, an increase of 4% from 2002. The fish harvest numbers showed 12,532 fish caught aboard Sheboygan charter boats, an increase of 21% compared with the 2002 results. The majority of those fish being Chinook Salmon. Sheboygan charter effort also indicated an increase in the catch per trip. This years average was 8.0 fish per trip, compared to 6.9 in 2002. Overall the report suggests an improved fishery as well as a steady increase in charter fishing activity. The 2003 season was the best in over a decade. Raw data for the entire Wisconsin Lake Michigan harvest was provided by Brad Eggold, Fisheries Supervisor for the Wisconsin DNR. For current fishing reports see www.fishsheboygan.com

Subject: Lake Michigan Trout & salmon Fishing

Trolling for Trout and Salmon on beautiful Lake Michigan off the port of Sheboygan Wisconsin is getting better each day. After a long winter and a cold spring water temperatures on Lake Michigan took longer than normal to warm up. Now that water temperatures are in the mid 50 degree range on the surface, fishing is outstanding for Rainbow Trout, Lake Trout, Coho Salmon and King Salmon. You can expect to catch double digit catches in a half day trip. As water continues to warms up look for this fishing to only get better later this summer.
