Subject: Lake Jindabyne Trout Fishing Report 9-9-2000

Despite more snow early last week, the temperatures warmed up enough for the snow to turn to rain last Thursday. Today is Saturday and the rain has continued in the mountains and while damaging the snow to some extent, the melt has allowed extra water to flow into the lake, so I would expect that the lakes will be rising from now on.

The rain has also returned a lot of post spawning brown trout to the lake and the rainbow trout are now starting on a very late spawning run.

Predictions at the moment will be high lake levels, with hope of water covering new ground by November.
Let’s look at what we can expect over the next few weeks as we head towards the opening of the rivers to fishing on Saturday 30th September.

Trolling
Again with lots of windy days preventing us getting onto the water, trolling has been made difficult.
The days that we managed to get out we found the better fishing was deep, 3 colours of leadline and Tasmanian Devil 'Halo' or number 48 being the best colours.

Trolling in 15 feet of water, just over the weed beds, using this method has resulted in a few browns to 2kg.

Bait Fishing
Since the rain, worms are now the best bait. Scrub worms fished on the bottom or tiger worms fished under a float have both caught fish. Areas that have fished the best have been 'Wollondibby Inlet' and 'Creel Bay'.

Spinning
Plenty of fish caught over the last week, with the occasional brown trout to 3kg being landed. ‘Creel Bay’, ‘Hatchery Bay’ and ‘The Dam Wall’ have all been fishing well.

Deep rocky dropoffs has been the best places during the day, with Pink number 55 Tassie Devil being the best lure. There has also been a few fish taken on spinners, like the green and gold Gillies Killer Spinner.

Fly Fishing
At last a little has started to happen on the 'Polaroiding ' scene. It’s still the weather that has been making the fly fishing hard. On the days we could throw a line we found that the browns are a little more aggressive this week, with the fish now taking larger flys like a ‘Mrs Simpson’, ‘Hammills Killer’ and larger nymphs mostly olive in colour.

Better things
With guaranteed snow for the kids to play in and almost guaranteed fish, it’s time to head down to the mountains for a great spring holiday. Please phone for a great accommodation and fishing package.
Mobile 0408024436 is the number.

Subject: TROUT FISHING REPORT FOR WEEK 4-8-2000

LAKE JINDABYNE TROUT FISHING REPORT FOR WEEK 4-8-2000
BY STEVE WILLIAMSON (Steve Williamson’s Trout Fishing Adventures)

Winter really hit the mountains over the last couple of weeks, with lots of snow falling on the peaks. These conditions made the fishing tough and only the brave ventured out.
There is now 2 metres of snow in the mountains with the possibility of more to come, which means lots of water for the trout in spring when it melts.
The trout are enjoyed the weather change with fish being caught by those that are mad enough to brave the weather. The cold wet conditions have provided the brown trout with the conditions they need to start their spawning run into the rivers, and Gaden Trout Hatchery manager, Sam Crocker, has reported one of the best brown trout runs he has seen.
The last few days have been clear, calm and sunny and a pleasure to be out on the lake but the fishing a little quite.
As soon as we get a bit of rain, the brown trout should return from the rivers and the ‘polaroiding’ will be at it’s best.
The lake water temperature is now 7 degrees C on the surface and the lakes water level is dropping and would now be about 58%.
TROLLING
Last week the pink number 55 and the‘Yellow wing’ number 36 Tasmanian Devils have the best lures. The best areas to fish have been ‘Kalkite Waters’ and the ‘Waste Point’ area.
You have to be a little careful now of the weed in the shallow bays, but there are plenty of fish to be caught if you put the hours in.
SPINNING
On the lake, very early mornings have been the go, with the fish cruising near the weed beds. It has been very cold, but those few that did rug up and have a go were rewarded.
Try spinning the Dam Wall area for best results.
BAITFISHING
The lake baitfishing is improving by the day, with ‘Bardi Grubs’ still the best bait. Try ‘Hatchery Bay’ and ‘East Jindabyne Islands’ for the best results. If you have a boat, the western shoreline of Kalkite is still fishing well in the ‘Kalkite Creek’ area. Another bait that has been catching fish has been the ‘Yabby’. If you can find some around the lake edges, try using it under a float.
FLYFISHING
The fish we have seen are very hard to catch at the moment. They are easily spooked and we may have to wait a little longer until the hungry browns return from the river.
If fishing on the lake late afternoon, try a black ‘Woolly Worm’ or ‘Mrs Simpson’ and again fish the weedy bays.
PLEASE NOTE.

Subject: Lake Jindabyne Trout Fishing Adventures

Sunday 9th July 2000

Not a lot has changed, on the fishing front, since the last report.
If you intend to try a little bit of winter trout fishing, or maybe give ‘Polaroiding’ a go, make sure you have arranged your accommodation before you arrive, as the next two months are very busy with snow skiers.
LOCAL WEATHER
More snow is keeping the snow skiers happy, however the days on the lake have been quite mild over the last week. No wind has meant that it was great on the water.
The temperatures have been as low as minus 5 and as high as 14 degrees C.
I am sure that we will be in for a few more blizzards over the next few weeks, so keep an eye on the weather charts.
LAKE CONDITIONS
Water temperature is 7 deg C and falling. Lake water level is dropping slowly and is now at 56%.
FISHING CONDITIONS
Boat Trolling
The trolling is excellent at the moment if you put the time in. There is no need to be early on the water we are catching rainbow trout all hours of the day. Tasmanian Devil lures in numbers 55 pink and 61 orange and gold are best.
Areas to fish have been ‘Waste Point’ and East Jindabyne area.
Spinning
The rivers are now closed to fishing until October.
A few trout have been taken on Tasmanian Devil number 55. Best areas have been ‘Curiosity Point’ and ‘Creel Bay’.
Fly Fishing
The Thredbo river is also now closed to all methods of fishing until October.
A few brown trout have been seen cruising the edges of the lake last week, the still weather has made spotting fish easy, but not as many fish as we would like.
When a few more browns return from spawning later this month, the fishing will improve. Best fly last week was ‘Craigs Night time’.
Bait fishing.
The best bait on Lake Jindabyne has been ‘Bardi Grubs’ and the best areas have been, ‘Creel Bay’ and ‘Hatchery Bay’.

This report will be updated as fishing conditions change.
For winter bookings please phone 0408 024436 between 8 am and 6 pm daily.
