Subject: Fishing Reports - June 12th Shannon Region
Game Fishing Report Dated June 12th, 2001
Cold, often brisk northerly winds accompanied by some night frosts greatly impacted on game fishing on many of our waters, particularly our trout waters over the past week. Water levels have tapered back to very low levels and on some salmon waters like the Mulcair and the River Feale, this is not helping salmon angling prospects on those waters which are dependant on suitable water to provide fishing.
Angling Highlights
· Specimen Trout of 12lbs+ by Athlone angler fishing in a pike competition near the weir on the Shannon in Athlone
· Grilse run started but poor todate, we await the peak run which may not have arrived yet.

Coarse & Pike Angling Report Dated June 12th, 2001
Generally a mixed week with some centres or rather select venues reporting very good fishing while others proved patchy, hampered by and large by very cool often brisk northerly winds accompanied by night frosts some nights. Daytime temperatures struggled to get over the mid teens on most days. Thankfully at the time of writing, temperatures are recovering and are forecast to rise to about 20 C up to the weekend. Despite the unseasonably cool conditions some lively sport was had by those 'hardier' anglers who braved the elements !.
Angling Highlights Quite good but not exceptional fishing from a number of venues on the Upper Shannon More specimen Tench from the Hot Water stretch at Shannonbridge, but be prepared for an all night session !. Good tench catches from Lough Boora, Kilcormac, Co Offaly Pike to 20lbs on the River Suck Super bream fishing again on Lough Derg’s northern shores at Portumna, individual bags to over 200lbs. Venues on the Shannon at Banagher producing the magical ton + of fish for a number of visiting anglers. The Grand Canal at Pollagh, near Rahan in Co Offaly still fishing Lough Derg’s southern shore venues proving a good bet with excellent bream catches reported. Good tench fishing on the Royal Canal at Grange, Mullingar East Clare lakes are starting to fish, best time early morning and late evening Full Report www.shannon-fishery-board.ie/weekly-coarse-update.htm

Subject: Fishing Reports - May 29th Shannon Region
Game Fishing Report Dated May 29th, 2001 Very bright and warm weather for most of last week confined angling to late evening/dusk and also dawn periods. Daytime fishing was severely hampered with flat calm conditions and bright sunshine for much of the time. With angling restrictions lifted, we have now started to update the competition fixtures section of our website, for those interested. This can be viewed on webpage www.shannon-fishery-board.ie/game-events.htm
Angling Highlights Anglers concentrate on late evening fishing on Lough O'Flynn with quite good results for some, conditions much better at the time of writing. Two specimen weight trout from the River Suck at Ballinasloe, photo next week Salmon Fishing is in a lull period awaiting the grilse run 91 anglers returned 224 trout on Lough Sheelin, best fish for the week, 8lbs on a spent gnat. Fishing slow on Lough Ennell but prospects much better as weather becomes more suitable and the Welshman’s button starts to hatch Full Report www.shannon-fishery-board.ie/weekly-game-update.htm
Coarse & Pike Angling Report Dated May 29th, 2001
Temperatures recovered and it got very warm mid week with bright sunshine. As fish have almost completed spawning, shoals are tending to fragment, hence fishing was a little patchy at some venues. That said we did get reports of lots of action and very good fishing was reported from many of our hotspots around the region. Weather is forecast to continue quite warm but fresher than of late up to and over the June Bank Holiday weekend, so prospects are looking good. The advise is to concentrate angling effort early morning and late evening if weather is very bright and sunny. At the time of writing strong warm south westerly winds is upsetting angling at some open venues, particularly the lakes

Game Fishing Report Dated May 22nd, 2001
Cold weather conditions midweek ruined mayfly fishing on many of our waters but there was a significant recovery over the weekend. At the time of writing weather conditions have significantly improved and temperatures are now back up into the mid 20’s once again. With calm very warm weather forecast up to Friday, this should provide suitable angling conditions for late evening spent gnat and buzzer fishing.
Angling Highlights
Trout to 6lbs + from Lough Sheelin Lough Derg fishing very well at Killaloe, mayfly season in full swing there, good prospects for late evening gnat fishing. Lough Ennell slow but at the time of writing prospects look good, get a supply of buzzers and spent gnat is the advice to go after those elusive wild Lough Ennell trout Full Report www.shannon-fishery-board.ie/weekly-game-update.htm Coarse & Pike Angling Report Dated May 22nd, 2001
Angling Highlights
In direct contrast to our last update on May 15th with lovely summer weather and excellent fishing, conditions literally reverted to near winter like conditions with daytime temperatures plunging into single values for much of last week. Consequently the enjoyment of angling was hampered considerably and fishing was patchy by comparison. That said some angling centres reported very good fishing, particularly at Portumna. With warm weather as we write temperatures are forecast to rise into the mid 20’s up to at least Thursday and possibly Friday next. In these conditions anglers are advised to confine angling activity as much as possible to late evening, dusk/dawn periods for best results.
The Boyle River continues in good fishing form The Northern shores of Lough Derg and the Shannon at Portumna continue to feature in our angling news with excellent bream and pike fishing reported The River Inny now in dormancy after superb fishing all week to Monday May 14th Bullock Island backwater and Inishee Island at Banagher and the Grand Canal at Ferbane worth a visit. The River Suck Valley excels as anglers catch an abundance of pike to 20+lbs. Royal Canal at Mullingar producing specimen size roach and good tench fishing. The Scariff River Co Clare continues to fish very well – good bags of hybrids and roach coming off the river Full Report www.shannon-fishery-board.ie/weekly-coarse-update.htm Angling Section Shannon Regional Fisheries Board www.shannon-fishery-board.ie You are on our mailing list because you subscribed online or by personal request. Subject: Game Angling Highlights September 11th, 2000
Trout and Salmon Angling Report week to September 11th 2000
There was an improvement in fishing on Lough Owel with over 40 trout officially returned for the week to Sunday September 10th . On Monday September 4th Lawrence Hickey from Dublin had 3 trout averaging 1.5lbs, on Claret Simulator and Green Peter. Brendan Carter, Athlone had 4 fish for 6lbs on a Green Peter. Only a couple of fish were returned on Tuesday and Wednesday September 5th and 6th. Brendan Kelly Dublin had a fish of.2.5lbs on a Black Pennell. On Wednesday Martin Kearney Dublin had a fish of 1.75lbs on a Kate Mc Lareen. On Thursday 7th September Christy and Seamus Molamphy from Tipperary had 3 each averaging1.25lbs. On Friday Martin Molamphy from Dublin had 3 fish to 2lbs on Bibio and Murrough. Other Dublin anglers had 4 fish to 2lbs on a Hopper. On Sunday 10th September Martin Kearney from Dublin had the best bag and best fish of the week. He recorded his bag limit of 6 fish, best fish 3lbs on a Daddy and Kate Mc Lareen. George Maharg and friend from Belfast did nearly as well with 11 fish between them, caught on a Daddy, Claret Bumble and Green Peter. Also on Sunday Brendan Murray Mullingar returned 4 fish to 2.25lbs on a Hopper, Black Zulu, Bibio and Daddy. All in all, a major improvement on previous weeks fishing. The Hopper and Daddy dapping season is here and suggest that you come prepared to dapp and have artificial flies in your box.

Week Ending 10th September 2000
With the Met man forecasting heavy downpours which fail to materialise the river Feale is in a constant state of mini spates or "freshes" as they are referred to locally. What the river badly needs is a good ripper of a flood to flush out the system so that anglers can finish out the season with a flourish. However the river is still fishing reasonably well as the successful candidates listed below will testify. Fred Chute of Listowel who enticed a fresh salmon of 8lbs to sample his tasty bite of blueheads at "Matt's Rock" on the Bunagaragh stretch. Needless to say partaking of this irresistible morsel had fatal consequences for the salmon. John McDermott accounted for a 5lb Grilse when flyfishing "The Furze" on the Kilmorna stretch. Richard Hall journeyed from Ennis and was rewarded with a 5lbs Grilse at the "Narrow Neck" on the Kilmorna stretch. Local angler Paul O'Sullivan is a man who likes a bit of Salmon over the Winter months and with that in mind there is always a vacancy for a few fish in his freezer. His two 7lbs salmon caught in town waters are no doubt at this moment in time safely dispatched in their allotted compartment. Athea angler Joe Dalton is another who recorded a double over the week. Joe's fish weighed in at 6 & 8lbs and both fell to the fly on the Bunagaragh stretch.
Jed Stone from Gillingham, Dorset is becoming a well-known face on North Kerry Anglers Association waters. A visitor in '99 Jed has returned again this year and on his second day out he landed his first ever Salmon on the fly. Jed landed his 7lbs Salmon on a local fly called "The Halpin".

Subject: Coarse and Pike Angling Highlights September 11
Coarse and Pike Angling Highlights for week to September 11th 2000
Lack of angling numbers proved a limiting factor in obtaining a representative report of angling at some centres around the region. Conditions were generally favourable with cloud cover a good deal of the time, some bright spells and showers - typically Irish weather !!. There were very good individual catches reported but some anglers found fishing patchy. We feel if the usual haunts were fished more they would produce good fishing. Here are our angling highlights.
The lakes in the Roosky/Mohill area continue to fish well.
River Suck around Ballinasloe also features favourably in our reports
Excellent bream catches on the back water at Bullock Island Banagher Co Offaly
Super bream catches on Lough Derg’s Northern shores at Portumna
22lb Specimen Weight Carp from Ballinafid Lake Mullingar
Royal Canal Mullingar worth fishing this week, particularly Pipers Boreen and the Harbour
