Subject: Lakes Norfork & Bull Shoals Fishing Report

Twin Lakes Fishing Report 072301
From Ron Schneider
Schneider's Rod Shop-Sportfishing Striper Guide Service
Mountain Home www.schneidersrods.com

Both lakes have dropped slightly again this week, now below normal pool level, and water temperature is in the upper 80’s.
On Bull Shoals, Rick at Wilderness Trail Tackle there is some top water action early in the day on Zara Spook Jrs., Spitn' Image, or Chug Bugs. A little later the Bass are sliding back into 45’- 50’ of water. Try tube baits, Hula Grubs, or finesse worms. Green colors are still the ones to use.
Walleye are hitting both at night and early in the day, look in 28’ to 38’ of water.
Best bait has been a Nightcrawler on either a split shot rig or crawler harness with gold or chartreuse blades.
They are not very aggressive, so work your baits slowly.
On Lake Norfork, there is top water Bass action early in the day. Many of the fish are suspended in deeper water and off steeper points. Smaller lures like Zara Spook Jr., Chug Bugs, Spittin’ Image, or small silver spoons are the ones to use. Look in the main lake, also part way into major creek arms.
There is some nighttime Bass action also, plastic worms in red/gold fleck, or black neon are the ones to try.
Salt Craws in Black Neon Fire or Black/Blue are picking up a few fish
The bite on both lakes seems to be a little lighter, and better action is reported working baits at a slower speed.
Stripers are active early and late in the day, part way into major creek arms and on main lake points.
They are active very early, and live Shad or large shiners are working best. Water depths of 40’ to 60’ early, and then suspended over the creek and river channels a little later in the day. Try downriggers or umbrella rigs trolled slow and deep. Hyper Striper jigs in white, blue/white, grey/white, or red/white with pearl, blue flake, or chartreuse 4” tails are the ones to try.
Bluegills are active, with some nice ones being caught on crickets, wax worms, or red worms.
On the White and Norfork rivers, the Trout are still hitting well on Berkley Power Eggs in fluorescent yellow or white tipped with a pink Salmon egg, also wax worms and Belgian Red Worms.
Until next week, this is Ron Schneider wishing you Peace and Good Fishing!

Subject: Lakes Norfork & Bull Shoals Fishing Report

Both lakes have been fairly stable this past week, now slightly below normal pool level, and water temperature is in the mid 80’s.
On Bull Shoals, Rick at Wilderness Trail Tackle there is some top water action early in the day on Zara Spook Jrs. Or Chug Bugs. Bass and White Bass are mixing in together and feeding on the small Shad that are schooling in the main lake.
Smallmouth are hitting on tube baits, Hula Grubs, finesse worms, or Brush Hogs are the lures to try, look in 30’ to 42’ of water.
Kentucky Bass are suspending in deep water over the submerged trees, look in 55’ to 60’ of water, and try silver or white spoons, also drop shot rigs with 4” worms.
Walleye have moved to their summer home in the main lake and at the mouths of creek arms.
Best bait has been a crawler harness with gold or chartreuse blades, or trolling a long flat line or downriggers. Look for them 30’ to 45’ deep, try Norman’s or Mann’s +20, also Reef Runners.

On Lake Norfork, there is still some top water action early in the day. Many of the fish are suspended in deeper water and off steeper points. Try smaller lures like Zara Spook Jr., Chug Bugs, Spittin’ Image, or small silver spoons.
There is some nighttime Bass action also; plastic worms in red/gold fleck, or black neon are still the ones to try.
Stripers are active early and very late in the day, part way into major creek arms and on main lake points.
They are moving a little deeper, with fish at 30’ to 50’ deep, and live Shad or large shiners are working best. A little later in the day, try downriggers or umbrella rigs trolled in deeper water of the main lake. Hyper Striper jigs in white, blue/white, grey/white, or red/white with pearl, blue flake, or chartreuse 4” tails are the ones to try.
On the White and Norfork rivers, the Trout are still hitting well on Berkley Power Eggs in fluorescent yellow or white; also wax worms and Belgian Red Worms.
Until next week, this is Ron Schneider wishing you Peace and Good Fishing!

From Ron Schneider

Mountain Home www.schneidersrods.com

Both lakes have been stable this past week, near normal pool level, and water temperature is now in the low 80’s.
On Bull Shoals, Rick at Wilderness Trail Tackle tells us there is still top water action in many areas of the lake on White Bass. If you can get close to them while they are breaking, try throwing a clear Pop-R, small CC spoon, or Rapala Countdown.
The Largemouth Bass are scattered around docks, brush piles, and on bluff walls. There is some brief top water action early in the morning with Zara Spook Jr. or Spittin’ Image.
Otherwise try finesse worms, trick worms, Spider Jigs, or silver jigging spoons fished in 40’ to 50’ of water.
Smallmouth are now on pea rock points thru out the lake. The larger fish are a little deeper, try 24’ to 35’ of water. For lures, try tube baits in appleseed, green pumpkin, Crooked Creek 87S, or watermelon red; also Hula Grubs in watermelon or dark melon pepper colors.
The Bass bite at night has picked up, with best baits then being Gene Larew strawberry gold flake worms, blue/black spider jigs, or red tailed tube baits.
Walleye have been hitting well at night on plastic worms, tube baits, and live nightcrawlers fished in 22-28’ of water on main lake flats and humps. During the day try long line trolling Bill Norman’s DD22’s in 153, 149, or 129 colors. Reef Runners in Gray Ghost or Gold are another good bet, try them in 35’ to 45’ of water.
On Lake Norfork, there is still top water Bass action early and late in the day. Many of the fish are suspended in deeper water and off steeper points. Smaller lures like Zara Spook Jr., Chug Bugs, Spittin’ Image, Flukes, or small silver spoons are all working. The trick is to make long casts and stay well away from the breaking fish. With the very clear water, the fish on both lakes are easily spooked. The nighttime Bass action has picked up, plastic worms in red/gold fleck, or black neon are still the ones to try, also jigs in brown or black colors with some blue or orange in them.
Bluegill are active, with some real nice ones being caught on Crickets or Red Worms in 15’ to 20’ of water.
Walleye are still fair to good, with action on Crawler harnesses in various colors, also long line trolling deep diving crankbaits.
Stripers are active early and late in the day, part way into major creek arms and on main lake points.
They are fairly shallow early, and live Shad or large shiners are working best. There is still some top water action, mostly Hybrids in the 4# to 7# range. For lures try smaller top water or plastic baits .A little later in the day, try downriggers, umbrella rigs, or long flat lines trolled in the deeper water of the main lake. The fish are around the Shad schools out there, down 30’ to 50’ over deep water. Hyper Striper jigs in white, blue/white, or chartreuse/white with pearl, blue flake, or chartreuse 4” tails. They are still scattered, with reports from Cranfield down to the dam and part way into Big Creek.
On the White and Norfork rivers, the Trout are still hitting well on Berkley Power Eggs in fluorescent yellow or white, Mister Twister Exude Skinny Worms, and also wax worms and Belgian Red Worms.
Until next week, this is Ron Schneider wishing you Peace and Good Fishing!

Most of the Bass have moved off the bank and into 40’ to 45’ of water. The best action is coming on Hula Grubs or 4” worms in red or watermelon color fished on 4# or 6# test green line. The water is really clear and the fish seem extra spooky.
Walleye continue to bite throughout the day, but now a little deeper, look in 40’ to 50’ of water.
Best bait has been a Nightcrawler on either a split shot rig or crawler harness with gold or chartreuse blades.
Tolling a long flat line along main lake chunk rock banks is working also. Lures like Norman DD22’s, Mann +20, or Reef Runners are the ones to try.

Twin Lakes Fishing Report 060501

From Ron Schneider

Mountain Home www.schneidersrods.com
Both lakes have been fairly stable again this week, near normal pool level. The water temperature is in the low 70’s.
On Bull Shoals, Rick at Wilderness Trail Tackle reports the best action is still on Walleye. There are still many being caught in the creek arms, with the bigger ones in the main lake. A 12.53 # Walleye was reported this week, caught on a Nightcrawler Harness rig with gold blade fished in 28’ of water on a main lake chunk rock bank.
Smallmouth are schooling on pea gravel or chunk rock banks, both in the creeks and on the main lake. They are in 15’ to 25’ of water, with the larger fish at 25’ to 40’. Plastic lures like tube baits, finesse worms, brush hogs, centipedes, or 5” lizards are the ones to try. Colors of watermelon, green pumpkin, watermelon/red, appleseed, or crawdad are working best.
Largemouth have been spotty, look around deeper chunk rock banks, also boat docks and laydowns.
Kentucky Bass are still scattered, with few fish being taken. There is some action on suspended fish in 30’ to 40’ of water.
On Lake Norfork the Bass are fairly active, with an early morning top water bite on smaller lures like Chug Bugs, Zara Spook Puppy, and floating worms or small spoons. They are in several areas on steeper points and channel swings where the small Shad are gathering.
The Striper action is still best at first light and at night. They seem to be spread out, with reports from the Cranfield area to the Tracy area, Bennet’s, Float Creek, Panther Creek, and in Big Creek.
There are some starting to suspend over the deeper water at 35’ to 50’ down, trolling action should start picking up for those.
On the White and Norfork rivers the action continues to be good, with the Berkley Power Egg in yellow, tipped with a salmon egg, wax worm, or red worm. There has been some late evening Brown Trout action on Nightcrawlers or Suspending Rogues.

Until next week, this is Ron Schneider wishing you Peace and Good Fishing!

Twin Lakes Fishing Report 042401
From Ron Schneider
Schneider's Rod Shop-Sportfishing Striper Guide Service
Mountain Home www.schneidersrods.com

The storm and below freezing mornings of last week put our fishing back slightly, with water temperature dropping back to the upper 50’s on both lakes. The water levels are fairly stable, just under normal pool.
On Bull Shoals, Rick at Wilderness Trail Tackle reports the Bass fishing has just begun to pick up again, with spinnerbaits being a good bet for Largemouth, look in the back ends of creeks and cuts. The smaller sizes in Shad colors with silver/gold blade are working best.
The Smallmouth are a little deeper, and feeding heavily on Crawdads in the 3 ½” range. Try Hula Grubs, tube jigs, or Spider Jigs in Watermelon, Green Pumpkin, or Dark Melon Pepper colors.
The Walleye action is picking up, look in the creek arms on North side chunk rock banks. Best baits have been Nightcrawlers fished with a split shot rig.
The Crappie are around shallow brush piles and in cuts in 8’ to 10’ of water, and small minnows have been working for them.
On Lake Norfork, the Bass are very active, with reports of 50 fish days! They are in all of the creek arms, and in many main lake cove and cuts. Best baits have been the various plastics like lizards, tube jigs, floating worms, and grubs. The colors should be green, with some orange or red fleck in them. Other lures to try are spinnerbaits or the 6” Grape Crème Worm.
There are reports of Walleye being caught around brush piles on minnows. Those same brush piles are holding Crappie on their shallower side, also close to the bank. Best baits have been Swordtail Jigs in white, pink, or chartreuse, Chrome Domes in white, and small minnows.
The Stripers are still spread out, with reports from the dam area early and late in the day, also at night. There is also action in the creek arms and some main lake coves at first light. Large Shiners or Shad fished on balloon lines or long flat lines are working well, and for lures, try Rogues or Redfins.
The White and Norfork rivers are doing very well , with Berkley Power Eggs in Florescent Red or Orange or Belgian Red Worms best on low water, and Little Cleos, Colorado Spoons, or Rapala Countdowns working well on rising water.

Until next week, this is Ron Schneider wishing you Peace and Good Fishing!
