Subject: Fishing Report

White River:
We are seeing water releases everyday on the White and we've had massive numbers of shad come through in the last couple of months. Therefore, white is the color. Try stripping or dead drifting white streamers. Fish have had shad to feed on for at least the first forty miles of river, so you are not limited to fishing these patterns close to the dam. These conditions offer a good chance at a big fish.

Norfork River:
The Norfork tailwater is fishing well but I have not seen any shad coming through. However, white patterns have been working well and I've seen some fish that had lumps in their bellies as if they were gorged on shad. We are seeing water releases every day so a boat is essential.

Buffalo River:
The Buffalo River is starting to produce a few smallmouth on various streamer patterns but should be much better by the first of April. The water temperature is still pretty cold and the bass are just a little bit slow. Try olive or crayfish colored patterns which can be worked very slowly along the
bottom of the deep pools.Yes,the bass are a little slow but the trout fishing on the lower eight miles of the Buffalo has been fantastic. Fifty fish days are the norm right now for trout on the Buffalo. Red San Juan worms, egg patterns, marabou jigs and various larger sized(size 8 and 10)nymphs have all been producing Rainbows from 12 to 18 inches.Good luck!

Subject: Lake Norfork, Arkansas fishing report

Lake Norfork has come up slightly, and the water temperature is in the low to mid 60’s.
There is still some top water Bass action early and late in the day, Pop-R’s, Chug Bugs, and Spittin’ Image are the lures to try. There are also fish being caught in 45’- to 65’ of water on Gitzits, Hula Grubs, and CJ jigging spoons.
The Stripers are still spread out, with some fish in the dam area and up into Big Creek, around Tracy, around Robinson Point, the bridges, Bennet’s Bayou, and up to Red Bank. They are moving around quite a bit, and are on various spots in the morning. Try 35’ to 55’ deep early, and then later are suspended over 65’ to 100’ of water at those same depths. Large to medium Shad or large shiners, also jigging spoons are working well. There is some top water action on Stripers, with most of the fish coming up in the deeper water.
Trolling has been just fair, downriggers or umbrella rigs with Hyper Striper jigs in blue/white or chartreuse/white, with tails in pearl, blue/ice, or chartreuse/ice are the lures to try. They are having best luck over the deepest water as the fish move around.
Catfish action has picked up, with reports from main lake steeper points. A variety of natural and prepared baits are working.
Walleye are also active, with reports from the upper end of the lake, try Cranfield Island and above, with Nightcrawler harness rigs fished in 25’ to 40’ of water.
We are also hearing of Crappie action on small minnows, off the deep ends of brush piles, and also at the mouths of major coves. They are from 25’ to 45’ deep, with suspended fish in the deeper water of the old creek channels.

On Lake Norfork, the Bass bite just fair, with some top water action on Super Fluke Jr. and other smaller top water lures.
There are some big Bluegill being caught, from Cranfield on up. Crickets and small nightcrawlers are working best, try the deeper ends of flats in 30’ to 40’ of water. Crappie are fair on Swordtail jigs or small minnows.
Walleye are hitting on Little Georges in chrome color, and the new Berkley “Frenzy” crankbait.
The Stripers are still spread put, with reports from the Tracy area to the bridges, up to Red Bank, and in the Big Creek area. They are on flats in 40’ to 65’ of water early and late in the day, and trolling is still working well, with Hyper Striper jigs and tails on downriggers or umbrella rigs. Another pattern developing are some fish running very shallow, over deeper water, with catches coming on long flat lines with Shad style crankbaits.

Subject: Report for Norfork Tailwater 9-15

The Norfork is fishing great on a bunch of different patterns.Several mayfly patterns will produce fish on the surface mostly in the midmorning hours.

Scuds, sowbugs, pheasant tail nymphs and bead head hare's ear nymphs are all producing well at all times of day. Also, there is a good bit of spawning
activity going on and egg patterns are producing some really big fish.We landed three browns today that were between four and six pounds.Today was quite exceptional but spawning will continue on Norfork well into November.
Good Luck!

On Lake Norfork, Cranfield Junction says the long line trollers using large “Fat free Shad” in white/citrus color are catching both Bass and Walleye. Try edges of flats and channel swings in 40’ to 60’ of water. Spoonin’ is also catching them; white or silver are the colors. At night, the red/g9old flake worms and blue/black jigs are still working.
The Stripers are still from the Tracy area down to the dam, and part way up into Big Creek. We’ve seen more moving around again this week, with fish part way into coves and on feeding flats early, and then moving out and suspending later in the morning. Live bait and jigging spoons are working fished 45’ to 70’ down. Trollers are catching with downriggers and Hyper Striper jigs in blue/white, chartreuse/white, and red/white, with chartreuse ice, blue ice, and pearl tails. The bigger fish showed up in a couple of new places yesterday, with two in the morning almost 20#, one at last light over 20#. They were all caught obn larger live shad fished 50' down.

On Lake Norfork, the Bass there are also in the deeper water, and jigging spoons in ¾ or 1 oz size, either chrome or white, are working for them. Try 40’ to 55’ deep, off steeper points and in cuts of coves and creek arms. The Stripers are in deep water, still 40’ to 55’ early, and then down to 95’ later. Live bait or jigging spoons are working well. Trollers are catching from early to mid morning, look over the deepest water, expect fish to be 40’ to 65’ deep, in or near the river channel. Hyper Striper jigs are still the lure to use, colors of blue/white, red/white, chartreuse/white, or pearl jigs, with either 4” or 6” tails in pearl, chartreuse ice, blue ice, clear ice, or smoke ice. There is also action at last light, from the Tracy area down to the dam.
Walleye are reported on steeper bluff banks and points, also off long points and deeper main lake flats. Nightcrawler harness rigs and single hooked crawlers are the baits to try.
On the White and Norfork rivers, the fishing is very good, and this week the white Power Egg has been hot. And in lures, Rooster Tails in pink, grey, or brown, along with Little Cleos and Buoyant Spoons in gold or gold/orange are all working well.
Until next time, Peace, and good fishing!

The lake level has dropped again this week; water temperature is in the upper 80’s.
The Bass are going deeper, and jigging spoons are the trick right now. CJ spoons or Mann-O-Lures in white or chrome are working well. Try 40’ to 50’ of water, and you may get a surprise Crappie, Walleye, or Striper also. There is a brief top water bite, whenever the fish chase a shad school to the surface. Try smaller top water lures, also a small spoon thrown beyond the fish and allowed to drop thru them. At night, the fishing has slowed up some, with catches still being made on plastic worms; red/gold flake is still a good bet.
To target Stripers, try the deeper water of the old river channel, and on it’s edges. Look for fish to be 45’ to 95’ deep, try live Shad, 1 oz. Jigging spoons in white or chrome, also trolling with downriggers or umbrellas with Hyper Striper jigs and tails. For colors, try jigs in red/white, blue/white, chartreuse/white, or pearl, with tails in chartreuse, blue ice, or pearl.
The bigger Bluegill are still being caught in deeper water, try 35’ to 45’ deep, crickets have been the best bait.
Walleye are on main lake flats, also on the rocky bluff points and they are from 30’ to 40’ deep. Try Nightcrawler harness rigs, or a nose hooked crawler on a single hook.
Until next time, we wish you Peace and good fishing!

On Lake Norfork, the bass are on a brief early or late top water bite, and smaller lures and spoons are working for them. At night, Salt Craws are working, try colors of brown/orange or blue/black.
The Stripers are moving towards the dam, with reports of fish suspending in the deeper water near bluff walls, and off long points near the old river channel. They are still from Robinson Point to the dam, and up into Big Creek. They are on points and flats early or late in the day, look in 45’ to 60’ of water. They are also at those depths in deep water of 120’ or more. Trollers are catching by following the channel and using Hyper Striper jigs in chartreuse/white, red/white, blue/white, or pearl. Tails in colors of Chartreuse Ice, Blue Ice, Blue Fleck k, or Pearl are working.
The bigger Bluegill are still hitting Crickets or small Nightcrawlers in 30’ to 35’ of water, look at fast tapering flats or creek channel swings. There are also still some nice ones in the creek arms wherever there is flooded grass.

On Lake Norfork the Bass are also on an early morning bite, small top water lures or small spoons are working for them. Later in the day, or at night, try Salt Craws in blue/black colors. Around the brush piles is the best place to try. Another place to try is in the back ends of creek arms, wherever there is flooded grass. There are also some nice Bluegill in there shallow, and in deeper spots, we have some reports of big ones being caught on crickets in the 30’ to 35’ range.
Stripers are still moving around in the deep water, from Robinson Point to the Tracy area, down to the dam, and up into Big Creek. They have been on an early morning bite; live bait fished at 35’ to 50’ deep has been working well, also jigging spoons in white or chrome. Trolling with Hyper Striper jigs in red/white, chartreuse/white, or pearl, along with tails in pearl, blue ice, blue fleck, or chartreuse ice is also catching some nice fish.
Catfish are active on main lake flats, also along bluff walls and ledges. Many types of live or prepared bait will work.
On the White and Norfork rivers, fishing has been very good, with yellow Berkley power eggs, along with a pink glowworm or red worms have been hot baits. Other good baits have been large shallow running crankbaits, also Rooster Tails and Buoyant spoons.
If you would like to tell us about your special catch, give me a call at Schneider’s Rod Shop, 424-3381, or Email us at schndrod@mtnhome.com.
Until next time, this is Ron Schneider wishing you Peace and good fishing!

Report for Norfork Tailwater:
Norfork is fishing quite well. The catch and release area seems to be producing best.Fish scuds, sowbugs and midges in the shallow swift riffles. Many colors are working including tan, copper, olive and gray.Try size sixteen scuds and sowbugs and size eighteen and twenty midges.Marabou jigs have been producing in the deeper waters.Use olive, gray and white jigs with chrome heads in 1/64 oz.
Report for Bull Shoals Tailwater:
I’ve fished the catch and release area below Bull Shoals Dam twice in the last two weeks. It seems to be a little slow but we have picked up a few fish using size sixteen and eighteen scuds and sowbugs in tan, gray and olive colors.Small San Juan worms in a natural worm brown color should also work. When the water starts running, try marabou jigs and larger San Juan worms.Obviously, you will need to fish from a boat when the water starts running.Good Luck!

072400 Lake Norfork Fishing Report
From Ron Schneider at Schneider’s Rod Shop
Mountain Home, AR

The lake has been fairly stable, and is close to normal pool level. Water temperature is in the mid to upper 80’s.
The Stripers are moving around in the deeper water, with reports still coming in of action in the mid lake area, from Float Creek, Robinson Point, Panther Creek, the Tracy area, down to the dam, and up into Big Creek. The best bite is still early, live Shad or large shiners the bait to use. There is also some limited top water action early, and later, jigging with chrome spoons has been catching some nice fish. Look for them 35’ to 55’ deep, near deeper bluff points, channel swings, and suspended out in the deep water.
Trolling is catching some nice fish, same depths, try Hyper Striper jigs and tails. This week red/white has been a good color of jig, along with blue/white, chartreuse/white, or pearl. Tails in pearl, chartreuse ice, blue fleck, or blue ice have been working well.
Bass are also active early, with a brief top water bite on smaller plugs like Zara Puppy, Chug Bug, Spittin’ Image, or a small silver spoon.
There is also some fair nighttime Bass action, try 8” or 11” worms in red/gold flake, or black neon.
Walleye are on main lake flats, try 25’ to 35’ of water, also along bluff walls. Nightcrawler harness rigs with silver, chartreuse, or orange blades are working best.
Catfish are in many of the same areas, also near the mouths of major creek arms and main lake coves. A variety of natural and prepared baits are working for them.
Until next time, we wish you and yours Peace and good fishing!

Subject: Smallmouth Report

The Smallmouth fishing is Red Hot.I’ve fished the mouth of the Buffalo River for the last three days and my arm is sore.Myself and one other person have boated well over 100 smallmouth in three days and we only fished for five hours each day.I’ll let you do the math on that one.Not only have the numbers been outrageous but the size is incredible. We’re seeing a lot of fish in the two pound class and we caught three that were three plus pounds.Carolina rig any kind of soft plastic bait that has legs and fish the rock piles and structure on the deep side of the river.Work the lure very slowly and hang on.
Various streamers will work well also.Bait fish imitations work well over shallow rockpiles but I reccomend a crawfish imitation. The crawfish needs to be fished along the bottom so you may want to bring two rods or a spare spool with sinking line.A fly rod is a fantastic way to catch these feisty bronzebacks.

Subject: Report for Norfork and Bull Shoals Tailwaters

Report for Norfork and Bull shoals tailwaters: We’re finally seeing water after a long period of low water due to extremely low lake levels due to lack of rain.Norfork is fishing great with two generators using red san juan worms, yellow to orange egg patterns, larger copper to orange colored scuds[sizes 12 and 14],and olive and brown wooly buggers. The wooly buggers have been producing some big browns early in the morning and late in the evening on the lower end if you can get them down deep.Use weighted buggers and sinking line in the deep holes. Also,if you want to do some night fishing, strip black wooly buggers through the slow water. You might hook something that will show you the clean part of your backing.Bull shoals is fishing well in the catch and release area below the dam.Use gray or white marabou jigs fished below an indicator. Here again, you must get them down deep.Try to keep them within two feet of the river bottom. This is easy to achieve in most situations. When eight generators are on line it becomes a bit more difficult but it can be done.Use larger heavier jigs, larger indicators and shorten your casts.Twenty and thirty foot casts are sufficient and it isn’t uncommon to hook up within a few feet of the boat.
