Water temps are ranging from 78-83 and the lake is high and beginning to fall.
There is a lot of current in the lake right now so use your current breaks like weedbeds, islands, creek or boat lane crossings, even single trees to find bass. In the open water areas like boat lanes and creeks try using crankbaits in both lipless and diving models in these areas.
Fishing the cypress with a jig or worm is working good also. Try concentrating on the down current side. With the cloudy days right now the sun is not much of a factor. Colors of black/blue, black/green, or watermelon are good choices.
Flukes, frogs, and senko type baits are always good choices in the vegetation most anywhere on Caddo this time of the year no matter what the water conditions.

Water temps are ranging from 78-85 and the lake is at normal levels.
Early in the day small topwaters like pop r's and torpedo's fished along the boat docks in the river channel above Uncertain have been working well. With the water on the rise try fishing a white/chartreuse or white/blue spinnerbait in the current around the cypress and grassbeds.
Most of our bites have been coming on dark colored senko and fluke type baits fished in and over the grass.
Weedless frogs over the heavy vegetation and flukes and worms around the scattered vegetation have worked over the past few weeks also.
White bass are running in the Buzzards Bay and Little Green Break areas and can be caught using rattletraps and spinnerbaits in colors of white or chrome.

The lake is slowly falling and is at about 168.96 as of today, normal pool is 168.50. Water temps are ranging from 58-67 degrees and most of the lake looks good.
There was a 12.50 weighed in monday.
Bass are good on a variety of lures like rattletraps and Cyclone Lightnin' Blades over the open water grass are producing and many times you may find the bass(males) stacked in these areas. Some good Trap colors to try are tequila, red, or shad colors in the stained water.
A V&M Super Hightail around the cypress in colors of watermelon, black/blue, or black/red have been catching some good sized bass when fished in 4-6 ft. of water. Watermelon flukes like the V&M Pork Shad fished over the open grass is picking up some decent bass also.

The lake is falling and is at about 169.97 as of today, normal pool is 168.50. Water temps are ranging from 41-45 degrees and most of the lake is stained to muddy.
Bass are fair on a variety of lures. Rattletraps and Cyclone Lightnin' Blades over the open water grass are producing and many times you may find the bass stacked in these areas. Some good Trap colors to try are tequila or gold/orange in the muddier water.
A 1/2 oz. V&M Slippin Jig or brush hog type lure around the cypress in colors of watermelon, black/blue, or black/red have been catching some good sized bass when fished in 3-5 ft. of water.
Crappie are fair but have slowed over the past few weeks, a few are still being caught on chart./red and black/red jigs in the river channel near Johnsons.

Bass and Crappie are in their fall patterns and getting better with time. This past week our better bass fishing has been in the mornings then most customers have wanted to crappie fish on the days when bass slowed after the morning bite. The bass have mostly come on fluke type baits and spinnerbaits fished through the grass and pads. Crappie are coming from the deeper creeks on jigs in the pads. We have brought in several 5 gallon buckets of crappie this week. Today water temps were from 59-63 degrees and the lake has come up about 4-5 inches.

Bass fishing is great right now. With the cooler water temps the bass are just now beginning their fall feeding frenzy and can be caught on a variety of lures from topwaters to Texas rigged worms. The bass bite has gotten better over the last week and will only get better over the next days and weeks to come. Find the roaming shad along the vegetation and the bass will be nearby. My largest this past week went 8.33 using a Shad colored V&M Pork Shad. Clients caught 7 bass this past week over 6lb. up to 8lb along with many other quality sized bass. Water temps have been ranging from 56 early in the day to 61 later in the day. The lake levels are stabile and 1.5 to 2 ft. low. The white and yellow bass can be caught in the Big Cypress River channel using small spoons and tail spinners hopped off the bottom. Crappie fishing is great using shiners and jigs. Most are being caught inside the pads lining the Big Cypress in 4-7 ft. of water.

Water temps have been ranging from 63 early in the day to 69 later in the day. The lake is 2 ft. low, but stable. The bass are beginning to get more aggressive as the water cools and they will only get better with time. Most of the bass have come out of the grass and pad mix using a V&M Pork Shad(super fluke) in colors of watermelon/red and junebug fishing them over and through the hydrilla and pads on the creek and slough edges. Texas rigged watermelon candy/chartreuse tail High Tails(brushhog) pitched along the edges of the creeks and on the cypress trees are working well. We have really caught some nice sized bass this past week, including several 5-7 lb. bass.

Water temps have been ranging from 73 early in the day to 78 later in the day. The lake is a little low and stable. We have averaged about 25 bass a day over the past couple of days since the water has started cooling. Most of the bass have come out of the grass and pad mix using a V&M Pork Shad(super fluke) in colors of watermelon/red and junebug fishing them over and through the hydrilla and pads on the creek and slough edges. Texas rigged watermelon candy/chartreuse tail High Tails(brushhog) pitched along the edges of the creeks is working well. Water temps have been ranging from 84 early in the day to 94 later in the day. The lake is a little low and on a slow fall. Most all the bass lately have mostly come on a V&M Pork Shad in colors of watermelon/red and junebug fishing them over and through the hydrilla and pads on the creek and slough edges. Texas rigged red shad or black/blue 9 inch Super Ringer worms bounced off the bottom in the same type cover has brought in some larger bass, especially once the sun gets high. The Bayou Bullfrogs in colors of watermelon or black will catch bass from the heavy matted grass and duckweed mix also.

Most all the bass we have been catching lately are from grass fishing. Pitching worms like a 9 inch Super Ringer or 11 inch Hog Wild in colors of red shad(stained water) or plum(clearer water). A 1/4 oz. weight in most situations has been working well but once it gets hot with a bright sun I have sometimes had to go to a heavy 3/4 oz. weight and punch it through the deeper(5-7 ft.) heavily matted grass.
We have also been catching them on a Pork Shad(fluke) in watermelon and junebug(stained water) colors. Bayou Bullfrogs during the heat of the day have been working good too.
Good numbers of smaller kentucky and largemouth bass on the Big Cypress above the Gov't Ditch using shallow diving Bandits and Pop-r's has been working at times early in the day too. Water temps are ranging from 86 to 97 degrees and the lake is on a slow fall.

Caddo Lake in July
Bass are in the thick grass right now. I have been using a Pork Shad or a frog in colors of baby bass, junebug, or most any watermelon color has worked well. To really dead stick your lure on the cypress try a Chopstik in junebug or red shad. I have also been pitching a 6 inch Hardhead tube or a 11 inch Hogwild worm in colors of black red glitter and red bug. When the bass are really busting the surface in the thick grass a Bow Bend Buzzbait works well here. Keep it simple as far as colors go and use a white on bright days and black when dark or overcast. Bream are still being caught on crickets(ha) around the cypress thickets and holes in the pads and grass. The lake is at normal levels but starting to fall and and the water temps have been ranging from 80-85 degrees.

Bass fishing this past week was a blast. 6 days straight with clients and averaged 25 bass a day with several over 5 lb. all the way up to 9.9 Lb. Our best bite came in the afternoons. Most of our fish came from the open water vegetation dragging V&M Chopstiks and Pork Shad through the hydrilla and pad stems. The cypress trees have given up some decent bass too. Dark colored lizards and worms working here. Bass are in all stages right now. We are still catching bass full of eggs and without. There will still be good spring fishing through April and May this year. The lake is on the rise and water temps as of yesterday were between 60-63 with the cool rain we are currently getting. This has been my busiest Spring yet and I look forward to rest this season to be full of happy clients and sore fish lips...

It's Here! Yes, great spring time bass fishing on Caddo Lake. The big ones are really starting to bite. Had a customer catch an 11.5 lb. bass yesterday using a large V&M Big Hawg Lizard(9 inch). His buddy had one larger (at least 12) a couple of hours later break off right at the boat after jumping completely out of the water a couple of times. My best patterns right now is to throw a lizard, tube, or jig around the cypress in 3-6 ft. of water and throw a watermelon/red V&M chopstik(senko) around the 1-3 ft. cypress and work it out slow. Red and chrome rattletraps are still good over the grass and along the edge of main lake sloughs especially on windy days. There are lots of fish moving onto their beds right now and lots that are still out staging, so I expect next month to be as good if not better than this one with lots of big bass caught all spring. The lake has filled back up and is safe to navigate with water temps ranging from 58-65 degrees. Go to http://bayououtdoors.com to see the V&M and Cyclone line of baits.

Bass fishing has been good over the past week. The water temps are in the low to mid 50's and the water is still low but coming up some with the recent rains. I have been using a couple of different lures lately, starting with a V&M Pork Shad in colors of watermelon or junebug. I Texas rig this bait with a 4.0 hook and no weight. Fishing over the grass and through the pad stems have worked well. Another lure I have been using is a 1/2 oz. Cyclone Jig in colors of back/blue or mardi gras. 5 inch tubes in colors of black/blue or black/red are working well also. Stick with the cypress trees in 2-4 ft. of water fishing slow. I like to use a V&M Mud Bug as a trailer. The crappie are fair using white or green 1/16 oz. jigs fished 3-4 ft. deep using a bobber. Go to http://bayououtdoors.com to see the V&M line of baits.

The big fish are biting on Caddo!!! Fish spinnerbaits, flukes, and rattletraps in deeper pad stems around 6 ft. of water. There are also some big fish being caught on jigs around cypress trees. White perch fishing is excellent. Fish red and green jigs in main channel from Marthas Crossing to Johnsons Ranch. No reports on bream. Lake levels still very low. BE CAREFUL

Bass fishing has been pretty decent on the upper end of the lake and should only get better as the water continues to cool. The fish should begin to school in the near future as the grass and pads die off the main lake and will get really good with some rain. The lake is still 2-3 ft. low. On the upper end we are using senkos and flukes mostly. The bass are hitting near the edges of the vegetation on the edges of the grass.
The white and yellow bass are beginning to pick up in the main river around Johnsons Ranch. Try roadrunners, small spoons, and rattletraps hopped off the bottom.

The fishing on Caddo Lake is tough right now. The fish are feeding on the full moon. About the only place that you can catch fish during daylight hours are on the main river. Fish the cuts and drains with a crankbait and large beetle spins. If your looking for a fishing guide, just give me a ring. (318)455-8210 or www.fishingcaddolake.com

Caddo Lake can produce some big bass at this time of the year, but don't expect many bites with the colder water temperatures. With some patience and slow methodical fishing a trophy is very possible right now. I like to pitch a 7/16 oz. blk/blue or blk/brn/amber jig with a matching pork or salt craw around the 4-7 ft. deep cypress. I also like to throw a texas rigged Gene Larew Hoo Daddy in the same places. A slow cranked white or red 1/2 oz. Hawg Caller spinnerbait or rattle trap over any available grass patches and grass points. Some good areas to try right now are Ames Spring Basin, Big Green Break, and Old Folks Playground. Crappie will be in the main channel and creek edges along the grass edges using shiners and jigs in 7-10 ft of water.

This month the bass fishing should be great. Bass started schooling heavy the last part of October and should continue into December. The lily pad fields along the main channel are holding some good schools on the texas side of the main lake. I am doing best using a variety of lures such as soft jerkbaits, topwaters, rattletraps, and crankbaits. Make sure you use at least 17 lb. test line because some of the fish we are catching can easily break you off on the old pad stems and roots. This is one of my favorite times of the year to bass fish because there are lots of surface explosions and heavy feeding times before winter sets in. Bass will also be caught using white crankbaits and Hawg Caller spinnerbaits in places like Alligator Bayou, Government Ditch, and in several of the main channel cuts and intersections. You can also catch all the yellow and white bass you want over the next several weeks on the main river channel edges using small bottom bouncing spoons, Rinky Dinks, and roadrunners. Crappie are ganging up as the water cools too, shiners are best here and can be used along the edges of the channel.

In the month of October you are going find both the black bass and white bass bite both picking up quite a bit. I like to throw soft jerkbaits such as flukes in shad or watermelon colors around the edges of the grass and pads on both the open part of the main lake and up in the river and bayous this time of the year. White or shad colored spinnerbaits and crankbaits are another good choice here. The main thing to watch for is green vegetation, especially grass. Another option is to pitlarge tubes or jigs around the cypress along the edges of these same bayous and sloughs. Alligator, Oxbow, Government Ditch, Pine Island, and Cross are a few good creeks on the upper to try. White bass are going to get better this month as the water temperatures continue to fall. I like to fish 1/4 oz. gold or chrome spoons, rinky dinks, and roadrunners off the bottom. Either a cast and a "worming" retreive or verticle hops off the bottom work well here. You can locate the whites in Oct. on the main channel near Uncertain, Tx. between marked poles number 136 and 146 and at the mouth of Bradley Canal on the main channel too. The lake is at normal levels and it already looks as if the fishing this fall is going to be better than even last years!!!

This month bass are going to begin feeding a little more heavy with the cooler water temperatures. I like to concentrate on the upper end of the lake in bayous such as Alligator,Oxbow,Cross, and the main channel. Topwaters such as pop r's,spooks, and chuggers in colors of white or chrome work great here. Fish areas in the bayous that have a good grass/cypress mixture. Black or watermelon jigs and tubes will work along the edges of the grass and at the base of the cypress when the bass won't come up to hit your topwaters. Anytime you see some floating duckweed try throwing a weedless frog or rat. White bass will start schholing more this month also. Keep an open eye for them along the old telephone poles that run north and south across the lake near Little Green Break. Rinky Dink tailspinners and rooster tails in green/white are great for catching these when schooling. The lake should stay at normal levels and is slightly stained in its clarity.

Here is the month of July report.

Bass are going to best caught on the upper end of the lake in the bayous and sloughs. Areas like Alligator Bayou, Oxbow, Government ditch, and Cross Bayou. I like to pitch 4-5 inch tubes and Gene Larew Mega Ring worms to the cypress and vegetation along the edges there. The dirtier the water the better. The main lake will produce your larger bass this time of the year, throw the same tubes and worms into the pads and cypress that have a little grass mixture. Tube and worm colors that I use are junebug, red shad, watermelon/chartreuse. You can also crank and carolina rig some of the channel intersectins like Marthas Crossing and Starr Ditch. Night fishing on Caddo is best when pulling large black spinnerbaits and 11 inch worms by the cypress and boat docks. The lake is at full pool right now and stained in clarity.

Subject: Caddo Lake Report/June

This month you will want to concentrate on the vegetation, whether it be the pads or grass this is where the best fishing will take place in June and July.
You can still fish the cypress and be successful but make sure there is some vegetation around the cypress that you are fishing. Areas such as Sand Island, Big Green Break, Bird Island will be some of the better areas. I like to throw Gene Larew 8" mega ring worms and 11" salty snakes around the cypress and into the edges of the green stuff. Colors like junebug, black, plum, and grape seem to work best. Topwaters early and late work well too. Black buzzbaits, chuggers, and spooks are some good ones to use on top. You can also go into the creeks and the main river channel and use the worms and Slug-Ohs in the current by letting the weightless Slug-Ohs drift with the current past the cypress and stumps. The lake is at full pool and clear to stained in its clarity.

White bass will be schooling this month too. Watch for them on the open flats of the main lake in and around the pads. 1/4 oz.traps, Rinky Dinks, and small topwater lures will catch large numbers of whites when schooling.

Here we are in July and the heat is on as usual. But the fishing has'nt cooled off any. Three of my most reliable patterns this time of the year are topwaters, worms, and subsurface baits.

TOPWATERS: buzzbaits, torpedos, and spooks.
These are 3 of my favorites for surface fishing. I like the buzzbaits in colors of white or black with a gold blade. Simply using black on cloudy days, night time, early morning, and evening. White during the day during bright light times. 1/2 oz. sizes to start and going to 1/8 or 1/4 oz. if the fish are'nt taking the 1/2 oz. well. When it gets really slick and bright out I will throw a clear or shad colored baby torpedo around the trees and grass or pad edges using long pauses. Spooks with a white or black belly fished under the same conditions as the buzzbait. Throw these in holes and parallel with the edges of pads and grass. I have caught a couple of 10 plus sized fish on the spook, so rig heavy because they will tear your junk up.

WORMS: My all time favorite anytime and anywhere. I prefer using most anything Gene Larew makes. They have a great selection of sizes and colors and have been a tremendous part of my success for over 10 years now. 3 basic styles for June are Larews 7 1/2" salty ring worm in colors of plum, watermelon, and camo. in clear water and red shad, black/red, and black/blue in off or stained water. A 1/4 oz. weight will work for most any of these worms this time of the year and the same colors too. Next, a 11" Larew Salty Snake, I like these in thick grassy areas and in stained water. Finally, Larews new 7 1/2" Mega ring snake, this worm has the best tail action of any worm that I have ever seen and can displace a lot of water too. Naturally a worm can be fished any many ways, but I simply like to texas rig them and pitch them to the base of the cypress and into the grass and pad edges.

SUBSURFACE: For lack of a better word, I put soft lures such as bass assassins and sluggos along side hard lures such as rogues and redfins in this category. Weightless and texas rigged sluggos in most any shad pattern work well twitched just under the surface around most any cover. Rogues in silver shades work well also until the grass gets into the trebles. The soft jerkbaits serve as a great backup for short strikers missing the buzzbait.

CURRENT WATER CONDITIONS: The lake is at normal depth. The water temps are ranging from 80-86 degrees. Most of the lake ranges anywhere from clear to slightly stained. Not much grass yet this year. Note: chart/white spinnerbaits ripped around the base of the cypress in 3-5 ft. of water have been doing well.
