Subject: Spring fishing/conditions

What can one say about this spring except "rotten" as far as the weather goes. Cold, rainy, windy. I saw recent reports from IF&W regarding water temps inthe 50/60's. I don't know where they are fishing but we are lucky to mark 50. The fellows are catching fish, just not a lot of them. Brookies are in the minority. Today it has rained and cleared up. Right now the lake is like glass. The fish are hanging around 40 feet. No hatches to speak of. Oh where, Oh where is summer.

Subject: Recent Fishing

I guess that winter just doesn't want to leave. The water temperatures are still in the 40's and we have had sleet two days this week. Despite this one fisherman brought in a 30 1/2 inch togue that weighed 11/3/4 pounds. The guys have been bringing in some decent Salmon 17" and better but I have not seen a Brookie yet. Today the water temperature got to 48 degrees and with the tempteratures in the 70's tomorrow we should start seeing some warmer weather and some decent Brook Trout. Square Lake has been very disappointing with several parties going there this and last week and have been skunked. These same fishermen have been doing well in Eagle but even the thoroughfares have proven difficult. Fish safe and wear that PFD.

Subject: 2002 Spring Fishing

Sorry to be late with the post but this spring has been interesting. Heavy winds, snow, trees down, etc. Fishing has been good despite natures tries to ruin it. Have had 7 guys in fishing and so far we have an approximate total of 50 fish (most released). Quite a few lost (usual fisherman's tale)and several very big fish lost. Have had a 3 3/4 pound Salmon, two over 3 pound togue, many 17" and better salmon but very few brookies. This is the first time in 10 years that the first fish of the year was not a Brook Trout. Water is a little dirty after a nasty blow on Tuesday but this weekend should find the fishing good. Water is still pretty cold since we had snow the last two days but they tell me summer is coming soon. We are still fishing the surface with flies and rapalas. Good luck to you all and wear those PFD's.

Subject: Summer Fishing

Sorry I have not put in before, we have been so busy I just forgot. The early fishing was great and then we ran into a dry spell during June. We caught fish but nothing to write home about. Last three weeks have been rainy with thunder storms in every day with fronts that drove the fishermen crazy. But man oh man is the fishing great now. The sun came out on the 18th and since then it has been fantastic fishing. All Salmon. We have had a 25" 4 pound 6 once Salmon, a 22" 2 pound and 3/4 Salmon. (Both on the Harry lure, copper with red dots). A fellow came in last night and went out this morning and brought in two Salmon. I don't know what they weighed because he is off doing some brookie fishing in a nearby river. (I haven't seen him yet to find out what he was using for a lure.) All my guests are getting hit like crazy and bringing in 15, 16, 17 inch Salmon up to 2 pounds and putting back lots of fish. Can't explain it because it has been hot and very sunny. Hope your fishing is as good.

Subject: Spring fishing/conditions

Spring fishing has been wonderful. We had a very dry spring with extremely warm temps in early May (May3 87 degrees). The first week of fishing May 5 through 12 saw mostly brookies (12 - 17" up 2 pounds) and togue (3 to 5 pound togue were taken). Only one Salmon was taken that week (3 1/4 pounds - 21 inches). Since then the fishing has turned to Salmon with few brookies and togue being hooked. The Salmon run from (keepers) 12" up to 21" and they have been up to 3 pounds and over. The fellows are getting a lot of hits on tandem streamers and rapalas. We had a week of rain May 31 to June 5 which made the lake come up about 3 feet but it also brought a lot of dirty water in from the rivers and streams. This next week June 11 to 17 should be mid to upper 70's with partly cloudy days.
