Salmon fishing is fair to good. Fishing first thing in the morning in the shallower water 35 to 60 feet of water with Spin Doctors with an Action fly behind, the Mirage color is still the best color. Dream Weaver Magnum and regular size spoons, best colors are yellow tails, orange and black, try some glow spoons also. As the sun comes up move out to the deeper waters and fish 30 to 80 down. In the evening move back into the shallower waters again for the bigger kings.
Coho are being taken mixed in with the Salmon on the same lures. The white and orange Spin Doctors with an orange Action fly behind them has been working good.
Lake Trout are being found South and North of the harbor and are being taken on the same lures used for the Salmon.
Steelhead are out a little deeper in the slicks. Look for the bug hatchings and try to match your lure colors with the flys hatching and you will do well. Fish the top 50 of water for best results.
Perch fishing is slow to fair, try fishing out in front of the harbor or down in front of the cemetery to the South. Use minnows for best results.
That about covers it for this week, Keep those lines tight!

Tip of the week: Lure color selection is key to getting good results. Try to take note if you see bugs hatching off the lake and look to see what color they are. Put some lures down that will match the hatching and you should have better luck! |

Salmon fishing has been good both South and North of the harbor. Try 50 to 110 feet of water fishing 30 to 75 down. Spin Doctors with the Action flys running off the Dipsey's are still working well. Magnum and regular size Dream Weaver Spoons are working off the downriggers. Best colors have been Yellow Tails both the glow and chrome. Blue and Green Alewives and some Orange and Black also have been working.
Lake Trout have been taken mixed in with the Salmon still on the same lures and colors.
Steelhead are starting to show up in the deeper waters. Best colors for them have been Oranges and Yellows.
Coho are still out there for the catching as well. They will be caught on the same lures and colors as the Salmon.
Perch seem to be one of those here one day gone the next fish this year. Get your minnows and head South of the Harbor out in front of the cemetery or you might want to try right out front of the harbor in 45 to 50 feet of water.
Tip of the week:
Lightening and boats do not mix! Remember if you are out on the lake fishing and you hear the rumble of thunder, there will be lightening there too! Lightening will travel a long way through the water. If you see it off in the distance and you think you are safe, don't count on it! Play it safe and pull your lines and return to shore to fish another day, or after the storm has passed! Always remember also that you might be the tallest thing out there and lightening like that tall stuff! If you feel the hair on your arms start to raise or see sparks jumping off the tips of your fishing poles, you might be about to get hit! Put that pole down and stay as low as you can in the boat! And get off the lake!
Until next week, keep those lines tight!

Salmon fishing was Great today with some limit catches being taken in 60 to 105 feet of water. Try using the White with Kelly Green Spin Doctor with a Mirage colored Action Fly after it off of the Dipsey 75 back on wire. Mag spoons, Dream Weavers were the ticket today, Yellow Tails, both the glow and chrome ones 45 to 50 down. Blue Dolphins and Monkey Puke for some other colors. Get out there early, first light was the hottest in 75 feet then they moved out to 105 feet of water.
Lake Trout were being taken mixed in with the Salmon on the same lures.
Perch fishing today was a little slow. Must be almost the week end! Try fishing in front of the cemetery in 45 to 60 feet of water with minnows. They should be back for the week end I hope. There have been some reports of some nice catches coming in.
Tip of the week: Change that speed! If you find that you have stopped catching fish try increasing your speed or slow down a bit to see it that helps. Moving into a little deeper water as that sun comes up also will help.
Well that's it for this week, Keep those lines tight! Captains Ken & Janice Deaton J-Lyn Charters Harbor Beach MI 989-428-3130 www.jlyncharters.com |

Salmon fishing this past weekend was Great, try fishing North or South of the harbor in 50 to 70 feet of water. 45 down seems to be the magic number. Our best bait was Yellow Tail regular and Magnum size Dream Weavers and White with Green Spin Doctors with a Mirage colored Action Fly behind it. The Spin Doctors were being run off the Dipseys with wire running 90 back. Try putting the lures off the downriggers back 20 and 45.
Lake Trout were being taken along with the Salmon on the same lures.
Steelhead were taken out in the deeper waters of 80 and 90 feet fishing the top 60 feet of water. Try some regular size lures with longer leads for best results.
Coho were taken along with the salmon on the same lures.
Perch fishing this past week end was slow, but there was a much better report coming in on Tuesday but you best be out there early! Try out in front of the harbor in 40 to 45 feet of water or down in front of the cemetery in 40 to 45 feet of water using minnows.
That is it for now, keep those lines tight!
Captains Ken & Janice Deaton J-Lyn Charters Harbor Beach MI 989-428-3130 www.jlyncharters.com
Tip of the week:
Rough water and a cannon ball caught on the bottom! What to do? Always keep a pair of leather gloves close at hand along with a pair of good wire cutters! They could save your life and boat. If you happen to be in a position were you are tangled on the bottom or in a net it could save your life and your boat if you keep these two things handy, so you can cut those cables if you need to before the rough water causes you to loose control of your boat and be swamped. You can always replace that cable and cannonball, but not your life! Live to fish another day cut that baby off!

Salmon fishing is Good North of the harbor in 30 to 90 feet of water. Fishing 25 to 70 feet down. Try using Spin Doctors with Action Fly's. Also regular and Magnum size Dream Weavers running 20 to 75 feet back off the riggers is working good. Best colors have been yellow tails or anything with some gold on it.
Coho's are in 25 to 40 feet of water right in front of the harbor on the same lures.
Lake Trout are being taken along with the Salmon on the same lures.
Perch fishing has slowed do to the rough waters we have been having. Try for them out in front of the harbor in 35 to 45 feet of water on minnows. If the wind will just stop blowing we should be able to find some of those nice perch again!
Tip of the Week:
Be aware of the weather when out on the lake! There is no fish worth dying for! If the winds are blowing and the waves are too much for your boat there will always be another day to go fishing! Try to remember to throw in a nice rod for casting when you go fishing. This way if the wind picks up too high for your boat to be out on the lake you might still have the option of fishing from shore off the pier or walls. There are usually some nice walleye hiding around those rocks along the wall in the evenings! Get out that casting outfit you brought along and give that a try till the wind dies down enough for you to get out in your boat! You can still make your week end a good one and live to go out another day! Till next week, keep those lines tight!

Salmon fishing this week was pretty good, with some nice Salmon and Brown Trout being taken just outside the harbor by the wall. Try using some body baits with long leads on them for best results.
Fish 25 to 30 feet of water. The winds are making a pretty good mess of things right now, but as soon as it stops get back out there and give it a try. Perch fishing is still slow for right now, but it should start up big real quick now, so keep your ears and eyes open for up-coming reports. Lake Trout season starts Wednesday, but remember to throw them back until then. You will find them mixed in with the Salmon on the same lures. There have been some nice reports of some Walleye being taken at the river mouths were the Smelt are. Special Note for all to read: I would like to ask all that can, to please try to support this cause! The Officers from the Michigan Conservation Officers Association are having a dinner, licensed raffle, and silent auction to benefit Holly Soave, the 5 year old daughter of Officer Tony Soave. Fishing Report from Harbor Beach Michigan 9/25/01 Windy, Windy, Windy!!! Gail force winds have the fishing on a stand still right now, but when it stops here is what you might want to try! Salmon fishing is fair to poor. You should try just outside the harbor using J-Plugs and Bombers, fishing 3 to 12 feet down. If you want to try spawn get up in the shallows inside the harbor with the spawn and you will have pretty good luck. Steelhead are out there somewhere, we just can not find them right now! Perch were taken in 52 feet of water on minnows. Lake Trout season is CLOSED! Be sure you throw them back! Until next week, keep those lines tight! Captains Ken & Janice Deaton J-Lyn Charters Harbor Beach Michigan 989-428-3130 www.jlyncharters.com
-------------------
Fishing Report from Harbor Beach Michigan 9/15/01 Salmon fishing is moving closer to the harbor this time of year. Try fishing outside the harbor by the outside wall in 35 to 45 feet of water. Also out as far as 80 feet of water. Use J-Plugs and bombers in the shallower waters and Dodgers and Squids out in the deeper waters. Fish the upper part of the water to keep from catching those Lake Trout. Lake Trout Season is closed! Steelhead are being found in 135 to 155 feet of water fishing the top 60 feet of water. Try using some Dodgers and Fly's also spoons with bright colors. Perch are still a little slow, try fishing South of the harbor in front of the cemetery with minnows. Tip of the week: Don't be surprised if you are boarded by the boarder patrol while out fishing since the devastation that hit our country on Tuesday. They are patrolling our borders and watching for unwanted visitors! If you happen to see anything suspicious, do not hesitate to call the Coast Guard and report anything you see that does not seem normal. Remember we are only a short distance from the Canadian border and leaving by boat is very possible for those that are in need of a way to do so. Our hearts go out to those that have lost love ones, and a Big THANK YOU to those that have been there with their help when it was needed. God Bless America! Until next week, keep those lines tight! Captains Ken & Janice Deaton J-Lyn Charters Harbor Beach Michigan 989-428-3130 www.jlyncharters.com
--------------------
Fishing Report from Harbor Beach Michigan 9/09/01 Salmon fishing is fair to good with some nice 15 to 18 pound fish still being taken outside the harbor in 35 to 45 feet of water. Be patient though as they are not on the feed, they are in the hit from instinct stage right now! Try some J-Plugs, and bombers. Fish them 3 to 15 feet down. If you are not catching, try bringing your lures up a little higher, you might be under them! Also try a little deeper for the 2 and 3 year old fish, add some dodgers and Squids to your spread and fish a little deeper, 60 to 90 feet of water fishing top to bottom. Lake Trout season is over so remember to throw those baby's back! Steelhead are in hiding right now, if you want to try to find some I would suggest going DEEP! Weather permitting you might want to try out in 150 to 200 feet of water. Check for scum lines and check the top waters first with some long lines. Perch fishing is here and there again right now. Some are getting them and some are not! Try those minnows, fishing down by the cemetery in 35 to 45 feet of water. Those Jumbos should start showing back up at any time! Tip of the Week: Small boats and BIG WAVES don't mix! This time of year you will want to keep your eyes on the sky and pay attention to the weather! We do not want to loose you now that you have the hang of fishing! Fall can be a windy time of the year and the wind can come up before you know it. Remember to pay attention to what is happening around you when out on the water and before you leave the dock. Go into the marina office before you launch and get that weather report, if it is windy and the waves are questionable please use your head and wait for the wind and waves to subside before going out. Don't let that fish you think you have finally figured out kill you! There will always be another day you can go after him if you use your head when the weather is questionable. Here is a thought! Always keep a casting rod and reel in your boat, if you get one of those questionable days with wind and waves, go over to the wall and cast out from shore for those walleye that hide in the rocks over there! Until next week, Keep those lines tight! Captains Ken & Janice Deaton J-Lyn Charters Harbor Beach Michigan 989-428-3130 www.jlyncharters.com
------------------------
Fishing Report from Harbor Beach Michigan 9/02/01 Salmon fishing is Fair to Good in 25 to 45 feet of water. Also out in 140 feet of water fishing 125 to 140 feet down there have been some Salmon taken. Try straight out from the harbor using Magnum spoons and J-Plugs. In the deeper water you will want to add Dodgers and Squids to your mix. Steelhead are being taken mixed in with the Salmon and Lake Trout on the same lures. Lake Trout are out in 140 feet of water fishing 130 to 140 feet down. Remember the Season for Lake Trout ends Labor Day! Throw those baby's back after that. Perch are being taken in 40 to 45 feet of water out in front of the harbor and also down by the cemetery on minnows. Brown Trout were being taken in the shallower waters of 70 to 90 feet of water a little North of the harbor on spoons. Tip of the week: Fishing in the harbor time is coming soon, and you will want to practice keeping your temper if you plan on fishing such a tight area especially on the week ends! Try to remember to keep your lines tighter to the ball than usual so you can make quick turns if need be when you get a fish on or the boat in front of you gets one on. It is not advisable to try running BOARDS inside the harbor on a week end when there are lots of boats in there with you unless you plan on giving them up once in a while to someone that did not see them in time! Things happen like that and you will just have to practice holding your temper again. Weekdays are much better for the harbor fishing. Just try to remember PATIENCE is the key word needed to fish inside the harbor in the fall. Until next week, keep those lines tight! Salmon fishing is good Northeast of the harbor in 80 to 100 feet of water fishing 45 to 90 feet down on Magnum Silver Streaks. Try some Dodgers and squids down deep for some added action. Steelhead are being taken in the same waters on the same lures and also out in the deeper water straight out from the harbor in 100 to 160 feet of water. Use the magnum spoons green colors are still working best. Lake Trout are being taken North and also straight out from the harbor in 80 to 150 feet of water. Try Magnum spoons as well as Dodgers with spin and glows. Perch fishing is still fair by the lighthouse as well as down in front of the cemetery using minnows. Try 35 to 45 feet of water. Tip of the week: When fishing slows in the morning, try picking your speed up a bit to see if you can urge those fish into striking those lures before you give up and go in. You might be surprised at what will happen. Until next week, Keep those lines tight! Captains Ken & Janice Deaton J-Lyn Charters Harbor Beach Michigan 989-428-3130 www.jlyncharters.com |

Salmon fishing this week end was fair to good for some while others searched for their fish. The Salmon that were caught were straight out from the lighthouse in 75 to 85 feet of water as well as North of the harbor in the same depth. Try fishing 50 to 65 feet down. Magnum spoons seemed to be the best. Colors were pink skunks, monkey puke, and black raspberry. Lake Trout were found out in 120 feet of water fishing 80 feet down using regular and magnum silver streaks, as well as Pro Kings and Stingers. Colors the same as for the Salmon. Steelhead were caught in 65 to 75 feet of water using the same lures as for the Salmon. Brown Trout were taken in 65 to 70 feet of water on Magnum spoons. Try watermelon and yellow tail colors. Perch fishing was fair to good. Some nice catches were taken just outside the lighthouse in 35 to 40 feet of water on minnows as well as down in front of the cemetery in the same depths of water. Tip of the week: Patience, if you fish on the week end you will need to learn to have it! I know you have heard of road rage, well water rage can be just as bad. Please remember if you are fishing amongst other boats in a pack try to remember to be aware of what they are doing at all times and if you happen to see someone with a fish on try to give them room to fight that fish that they worked so hard to finally get on the line. If you decide you need to go behind someone it would be a good idea to try to call them on the radio before you do so, and check to see if they have any long lines or lead lines out in back of them. This will keep everyone happy and save some nasty tangles. A little patience is well appreciated by all and if you remember the old saying of what goes around comes around, I am sure the favor you do for someone out on the water will come back to you two fold. Salmon fishing was a little better Sunday. You had better get there early though or you will be searching again. Try fishing 140 to 150 feet of water 40 to 120 down seemed to be the best. Use Magnum spoons with regular sizes on the sliders. Best colors were black & white, black & purple, and yellow tails. Try some Dodgers with squids or fly's behind them also. Steelhead were sitting inside the Salmon in 80 to 90 feet of water and hitting the same colors. Lake Trout are being taken mixed in with the Salmon on the same lures. Perch fishing has picked up again with some nice catches being taken using minnows in 35 to 40 feet of water outside the lighthouse. Try to get those shiners if you can they seem to be working the best. Tip of the week: If the fishing is slow don't give up hope. Persistence usually pays off! Just keep changing those lures till you find that one that works. If you don't happen to be able to find that one lure, just remember this one thing, Even a bad day of fishing is better than the best day at work! Next time out might be your day to Catch instead of Fish! Until next week, Keep those lines tight! Salmon Fishing this week end was slow due to the high Gale Force winds that passed through on Sunday. Now that the wind has stopped, give it a try in 60 to 80 feet of water fishing the complete water levels until you find where they are hiding at. Use some Magnum spoons with mixed colors. Steelhead will be in the same area on the same lures. Lake Trout will be found in the same area but try a little closer to the bottom and put in some Dodgers and flies. Perch has slowed down as well, try out in front of the wall in 40 to 45 feet of water on minnows. Tip of the Week: Keep your eye to the sky! If you are out on the lake always remember to keep a close watch on the weather at all times. Sunday was one of those days that you wished you had been paying close attention. When the Gayle force winds started to blow the lake was no place you wanted to be that is for sure! Water spouts were also present on the lake. Remember a water spout on the water can be just as dangerous as a tornado on the land when you are in a boat! They will take water out of the lake and when they drop all that water they have taken up you better hope your boat is not close to it! It will sure fill your boat up faster than you can think! A swamped boat is not the thing you want out in the middle of the lake! You can be sitting there saying look at that water spout over there and the next thing you know one is setting down right next to your boat and there is nothing you can do about it then! Play it safe and go in and come back out after the danger of bad weather clears. Salmon fishing was good North and East of the harbor using Magnum spoons on downriggers 30 to 50 feet down, best colors were greens and oranges. Lead lines 8 colors out. Steelhead were being taken using the same method in the same waters. Lake Trout were found in the same waters but 50 to 60 feet down on dodgers and squids. Perch was slow, try fishing South of the harbor in 45 to 50 feet of water with minnows. Tip of the week: Sharpen those hooks! You might catch that fish that just slapped at the lure if you keep those hooks sharp as a needle! Get out your sharpener and touch up those old and NEW lures with a fresh edge. Salmon Fishing is fair North and South of the harbor in 90 to 150 feet of water. Try using Stinger lures set 45 to 80 down. Orange colors seem to be working the best. Steelhead were setting in 60 to 80 feet of water in the fly hatching. They were being caught on the same lures as the Salmon. Lake Trout are setting up on the reefs, try using Dodgers and Fly's on the bottom. Perch fishing is still reported as good down by the cemetery using minnows in 35 to 45 feet of water. Tip of the Week: Sharpen those hooks! Even out of the package new those hooks need to be touched up. This process will help improve your catch ratio, more hook ups and less missed fish. Salmon Fishing is still a little scattered with all of the storms that have been going through. Those that are being caught are being taken in 90 to 130 feet of water fishing 40 to 80 feet down. Try using magnum Streaks and Stinger lures, the darker colors seemed to be working the best but some were taken on glo colors as well. Steelhead are being found in the deeper water up closer to the top on bright colored lures. Lake Trout are still being taken mixed in with the Salmon on the same lures. Perch fishing is slowing down, try fishing in 45 feet of water out front of the harbor and also down to the South by the cemetery on minnows. Tip of the Week: Something you should be thinking about this year is the shallow waters and what you should be watching out for. There was another May Day call this week end, the vessel had ran aground South of the harbor and was sinking at what is noted as the White Rock area. This area is very shallow this year with some nasty reefs running out farther than normal due to the lower water levels this year. It was reported of a sighting of person in the water along with the vessel going down. Thanks to the quick action of local boaters and the Coast Guard the person was found and rescued by helicopter. The only thing left visible of the vessel was the bimini top and the anchor light on its top. Please think about the low waters as you travel the Great Lakes this year. Get new charts if you need them, call before leaving on your trip and ask about the water depths you are planning on traveling in. There are some places you can be in 40 feet of water one minute and the next you are in 2 feet. Planning ahead may just keep you from ruining your trip with a mishap that may well have been avoided if you had just taken the time to check the area out ahead of time before you left! Hope all have had a great holiday of fishing and boating. Here is the results of this week ends fishing. Salmon are being taken in 85 to 90 feet of water fishing 25 to 55 down using magnum Stinger Spoons with a 15 to 20 foot lead from the ball. Steelhead are being found in 100 to 150 feet of water fishing orange or chartreuse colors with long leads off the ball set down 25 to 60 feet. Try using some lead lines with 6 and 8 colors out also for the Salmon and Steelhead, this proved to be very successful for us this week end. We were using the larger spoons for the best results. Lake Trout were being taken mixed in with the Salmon as well on the same lures again this week. Perch fishing is still fair using minnows in 45 to 50 feet of water straight outside the harbor. You might even give it a try South of the Harbor down in front of the cemetery. Well that about covers it for this week, until next week, Keep those lines tight! Tip of the week: I know we are all familiar with the good ole bug hatchlings out there on the lake from time to time. Well have you ever thought of putting those hatchlings to work for you? Next time you are out there and those little critters are driving you nuts, pick one of them up and take a closer look at him! Look to see what color he is and try to duplicate the colors with your lures! You will be surprised at the results! If the bugs are green, get some green colored lures in the water and you should increase your catch. What you see is what you get, or it could be what you see is what they want! Good luck fishing! Salmon fishing this week was a game of hide and seek! The Salmon are scattered all over the lake. You will catch some nice ones in one spot and not a nibble in the next. In short if you set down on them baby's you had a good time, if you set down short you worked your self into a nervous wreak! Those that were lucky enough to be one of those that picked the right spot had some nice Salmon. They were being taken on Magnum Spoons, the longer the lead the better. If you had lead line out that was the magic trick for the most Salmon. There were Salmon taken North of the harbor and South of the harbor. Try 65 to 90 feet of water for the best luck. Steelhead are out there just waiting for the taking. Lead lines with Magnum spoons 8 and 10 colors back. Boards with lines back 150 to 200 feet with orange Stinger Spoons in Magnum size. Lake Trout are mixed in with the Salmon on the same spoons. Perch are still being taken with minnows in 30 to 40 feet of water. Tip of the Week: This week I have a tip that I hope ALL will use!
There was some real nasty fog out on the lake this week. Fishing can be pretty stressful in the fog. You need to think about what you are doing when you are fishing in the fog at all times as well as what others are doing out there too. We have Radar on our boat which I thank my lucky stars for every time I am out there in the fog. This week while out on a charter, I noticed a spot on the radar that was a vessel RUNNING in the fog. This vessel appeared on the screen as a dot that was moving at a speed way to fast for the conditions that were out there. I showed this spot on the radar to my customers and remarked that this was one of the main reasons I had purchased the radar. To watch out for those that were out there running at such a great amount of speed, and apparently thinking there was no one else out there with them in the fog. The spot turned towards our vessel, so I made maneuvers to avoid collision and only got the wake of the vessel running in the fog. I then noticed the vessel on the radar after traveling on for a short distance come to a stop and assumed that they had reached the spot were they intended to fish. The next thing I heard was "MAY DAY" "MAY DAY" "MAY DAY" There has been a boat collision! We are taking on water. I could go on forever with this story, but will make my point and end it there. No one thank goodness was hurt in this situation. The boat that was literally ran over was a total mess and has ruined someone's summer that is for sure. The point to be made here is this, I do not care if you have radar or you do not have it, you should never be running in the fog when your sight is so limited! There are vessels that just will not show up on the radar. When you are running with radar your radar could be at such an angle while running that you will miss picking up a vessel in your path. So please for your own safety and the safety of others, use your common sense and caution when and if you are fishing in dense fog situations. Keep a close watch at all times and avoid such a mishap for yourself, and above all DO NOT RUN YOUR BOAT AT A SPEED UNSAFE FOR THE WEATHER! Until next week, Keep those lines tight! Subject: Report from Harbor Beach on Lake Huron
Salmon fishing has been a little scattered this week due to the high winds that we have been having. The fish that have been being caught are being found in 50 to 80 feet of water South of the harbor. Try using Magnum spoons on the main lines with regular size on the sliders. Put out some boards with three way's using a big lip bomber on the bottom and Pro Kings on the top. Lake Trout will be found mixed in with the Salmon, being taken on the same lures. There have been some reports of some nice walleye being taken after dark casting from the wall as well as out of the boats. Remember the bug hatching's we have been seeing? Well those walleye are in there eating them so give it a try! Perch are still being taken in 30 to 40 feet of water on minnows. Steelhead are there for the finding if you take the time to look hard enough. Use some bright colored spoons, get those lines back there a ways for best results. You might even get into some nice Brown Trout. Tip of the week: If you have not already done so, be sure to go through that check list before you get that boat dropped into the water. It sure makes for a depressing day if you wait till you get in the ramp to try to start that engine and find out your battery is dead! It also is a good thing to have everything ready before you get to the launch ramp. For instance, get the ropes on, the top up, the fishing poles out, the coolers in the boat, etc. The staging area is the place to do these type of things NOT WHILE YOU ARE SITTING IN THE RAMP! Think ahead and make your day more enjoyable for you as well as that fellow fisherman sitting in line behind you waiting to put his boat in the water as well. This also goes for when you are pulling the boat out. Put the boat on the trailer, pull it out of the ramp and then pull into the staging area to put your boat and things down. This will speed up the waiting line in the water for pulling the boats out as well. Hope you have a great week of fishing. until next week, Keep those lines tight! Salmon fishing was iffy this weekend, if you were on the right spot, you caught some nice Salmon, if you were on the wrong spot, you listened to others do the catching. The Salmon that were caught were of nice size, best lures were Magnum Silver Streaks on the downriggers and some body baits off the boards. They were found in 55 to 75 feet of water North of the harbor. Perch fishing is just getting started with some nice 14 to 16 inch perch being caught on minnows in 35 to 45 feet of water just outside the light house. Lake Trout and Steelhead were being caught mixed in with the Salmon on the same lures. Tip of the day: Strip that old line off those reels and put on that new line for the best chance at getting those wild spring Salmon in the boat. You sure don't want to break that big one off with line that might be rotted or nicked from last years fishing trips. Is it FALL? Looks more like winter this weekend! Wind, rain and snow, made the fishing sort of miserable this weekend for those that were out there.
Salmon fishing is best from shore right now, use some Bombers, Cleo's or spawn for best results.
For this weekend that is about it for fishing! This was a much nicer weekend to do those end of summer chores like winterize the boat, organize the tackle box, sharpen some hooks, and watch some football from the inside looking out.
Keep those lines tight for now!

Well hello everyone, once again the winds area blowing! It was a beautiful weekend to wax the boat! This is the time of year that we all hate to see come. The time for getting the boat ready to store for the winter. I hope you all took advantage of the warm weather and did some major outside jobs that needed to be done. Here is your fishing report for this weekend.
Salmon are being caught right from shore with spawn and also casting with bombers and Cleo's. If the wind backs off you might want to try out in 70 to 100 feet of water for some 3 year old salmon. Try using some Magnum spoons and bombers. You might try inside the harbor with some J-Plugs and Bombers for some 4 year old Salmon.
Steelhead will be out in the same area as the 3 year old Salmon, use the same type lures as you do for the 3 year olds.
Perch fishing has been at a stand still due to the high winds. If you find some calm waters you will want to try outside the harbor with some minnows. Try in 40 to 45 feet of water.
That about covers it for this week, Keep those lines tight!

Fall fishing for the mighty Salmon can be very frustrating at times. The weather is the main factor this time of year. The winds are usually stronger making the waters rougher and sometimes very unsafe to fish, this will force you to fish inside of the harbors if you have one to fish within. This is a good thing if the fish are biting, and a very boring thing if the fish are not! This time of year you probably know that the Salmon that are coming in to spawn are not in there to eat! They are in there with one thing on their mind and that is to spawn. This means that you might have to go over that same fish running that lure past him or her a lot of times before they will finally hit it just out of instinct. But if you are persistent and keep trying you will be successful sooner or later. Fishing inside the harbors for the Salmon is a completely different experience that is for sure. When you are fishing inside the harbor for the fall salmon you will be fishing with your lines closer to the ball and a lot closer to the surface. We use the 10 foot to 15 foot back and 5, 7, 9, 11 feet down method while fishing inside the harbor. This seems to make those fish mad and your results is a lot better. It also lets you make those quick sharp turns that you will need to make inside the harbor. You don't have to worry about knowing when you get a hit when you are running them like this, you can hear them! It sounds like a bullet when they pop off the releases! One tip I will also share with you is to be sure that you keep that net between you, the person on the rod and the fish at all times when the fish gets close to the back of the boat. This could save you a hook in your face! I always like to have people wear some type of eye protection when they are at the back of the boat as well. A hook in the eye is not a pretty site believe me I have seen it! Please use caution at all time when the fish comes to the boat ready to net. The hooks on the lures you use on the harbor fish this time of year tend to pull out easily from the fish because their flesh is much softer from being in the warmer waters in the harbors.
Salmon fishing is fair inside the harbor using J-Plugs, bombers, Magnum Stingers and Magnum Silver Streaks. If you can get out into the deeper waters there are some nice three year old setting in 60 feet of water, fishing 40 to 60 down, use the Magnum spoons when fishing here.
Steelhead were caught in 40 feet of water straight outside the harbor fishing 25 down on the same spoons as for the salmon.
Perch fishing has been at a stand still with all of the rough waters that we have been having. You might want to try outside the harbor in 40 to 45 feet of water South of the harbor down by the cemetery or outside the harbor half way down the wall. Try to find some shiner minnows for the best results.
Lake Trout Season is CLOSED
That is about it for now, Keep those lines tight!

Salmon fishing this weekend was tough with the Gale Force Wind Warnings that were out there for Friday and the waves were not that small for Saturday as well!
Sunday found a few boats venturing out into the harbor to try for some Salmon. The results was not as good as could be expected for this time of year. If the winds die off and the weather is nice to us you might want to try fishing outside the harbor in 45 to 50 feet of water using bombers and J-Plugs.
Brown Trout might be found South of the harbor in the shallower waters using body baits with some longer leads.
Perch fishing has not been very good right now, but you might want to try South of the harbor in 40 to 50 feet of water using minnows for best results.
Lake Trout Season is CLOSED! Don't forget to put those baby's back to catch again next year!
That is about is for now, wish I had better news for you on the catching part of the report, but we all know that is why they call it fishing and not catching now isn't it! And even a Bad day of fishing is better than the Best day at Work!
Tight lines to you till next week!
