Subject: Table Rock Lake Fishing Report 4-15-2003
APRIL 15, 2003
WATER LEVEL - 912.89 Normal Pool 915' WATER TEMP. 55-60 Main Lake 57-62 Rivers
I've found fish moving up and locking on beds the past couple of days. Mostly Largemouths and Smallmouths, in all areas of the lake. I think this is just a small wave of fish moving up We are still not catching large numbers of fish staging on secondary points, which is normal for this time, I don't think they have moved up yet. Fish main lake and secondary points leading into spawning areas with 4" french fries, fish doctors, 1/4 oz jigs, chompers, small lizards, mojo or split shot rigged, green pumpkin and watermelon colors are working well. Set boat in 15'-20', fish are 5'-12' deep. Floating worms, flukes, Sencos, working around spawning areas and will continue to get better. It's also the time to get your favorite top water bait tied on...Pop-Aongs, Spook, Chug Bug, Red Fin. etc. Watch for fish chasing shad, also try early and late main lake and secondary points with submerged timber. After this weekend with the warm weather coming, you should be able to catch fish on a large variety of baits as the majority of the fish will be up spawning the next few weeks. Good Luck!

MARCH 30, 2003
WATER LEVEL - 912.57 Normal Pool 915' WATER TEMP. 49-51 Main Lake 52-59 Rivers
This weekend, Team Supreme Tournament Trails had their 2003 year end Championship on Table Rock, with 170 teams from all over the mid-west. Most of these guys are shallow water river fishermen, but they showed they could catch them just as good on this deep, clear Ozark lake. Producing over 20 lb. stringers each day in serious changing weather patterns, 80 degrees the 1st day, then on the 2nd day...Rain, snow, sleet, with 30 mph winds, below freezing temps, with bluebird skies, and on the third day, no precipitation, but windy & cold!! Most of the fish were being caught up the White River, from #9 to Eagle Rock up, and the Kings River & mid-lake areas. Lots of 3-4 lb. smallmouths weighed in and I saw more healthy largemouths than I have seen in the past few springs since the fish kill, showing that the lake is rebounding excellent. I worked the Team Supreme Catch & Release boat, and all the fish were in excellent shape, loaded with eggs and waiting to spawn. The fishing should really break loose over the next 7-14 days if it warms up, like they say in the upcoming forecasts. Water temps range between 49-59 degrees, it's warmer up in the upper ends of the rivers and creeks in the afternoons. Fish were caught on all different baits, mainly jerkbaits-Husky Jerks, Rouges, & Lucky Crafts, on main lake and secondary points and channel swings in the creeks. Best colors were Tennessee Shad, Purple/Chartreuse, Chrome/Blue & Chrome/Black. Some came on crankbaits, Storm wiggle warts, Rapala Shadraps in green crawdad patterns, & reds, & browns, fished in the same areas as the jerkbaits-but a little shallower. Several fish were reported being caught on single spin spinnerbaits along bluffs, & bluff ends, being slow rolled, & tandem willow leafs in the upper rivers. Many anglers also caught a few fish on Team Supreme's 1/4-3/8 oz. jigs in brown & green.

MARCH 26, 2003
WATER LEVEL - 912.49 Normal Pool 915' WATER TEMP. 49-51 Main Lake 52-54 Rivers
The fishing all over the lake should really start to pick up with the water temperatures rising up to the mid to upper 50's in the afternoons. Still catching fish on jerk baits in the clear water-Dam, Kimberling, Baxter, & Campbell Point areas. Throw medium billed Rapala Husky Jerk & Lucky Craft rogues in Tennessee Shad, Purple/Chartreuse, Chrome/Black, Chrome/Blue. Try chrome/blue on sunny days and chrome/black on cloudy days, and the Table Rock color - purple back/chartreuse sides, white belly. Fish secondary points and channel swings in the creeks and pockets just off the main lake. Fish the main lake channel swings and rock transitions on the main river with spinnerbaits, crankbaits tubes & jigs. Try Storm Wiggle Warts, Rapala Shad Raps, and 1/4 oz.- Team Supreme jig- Black/Green smoke or Eakin's jig- Brown/Black in the same areas. I use the Team Supreme Rage & Rascal jigs, as the design of the jig head itself rolls over rocks and brush while it holds the hook in a strike position. I have great success with this jig. A lot of moss on the bottom of most of these areas, crankbaits on bottom, or small jigs can be a problem when it is present, so you have to parallel the bank. Fish out about 8' to get away from the moss.
The rivers are a lot warmer due to rains last week and the water is coloring up a lot more. Numbers of fish are being caught up the James River on spinnerbaits, crankbaits, tubes & jigs. Look for cuts, and coves with lots of shad in them. I've seen several fish feeding on shad this past week

MARCH 19, 2003
WATER LEVEL - 911.14 Normal Pool 915' WATER TEMP. 46-49
Water has warmed up the last few days, fishing quality varies from day to day, one day we will have great results and the very next day, not so good! Most of the fish being caught have been on jerkbaits, jigs, crankbaits, & some spinnerbaits, and a few on grubs. Best Baits:medium billed Husky Jerks, Lucky Craft, Rouges (black/chrome, blue/chrome, Tennessee Shad, Purple/Chartreuse) crankbaits, Shad Raps, Wigglewarts (crawdad patterns) Jigs (Team Supreme 1/4 oz. & Eakins 3/16 & 1/4 oz in Brown, Brown/Black, or Brown w/ watermelon tipped with 3" craws-green pumpkin or watermelon.
I don't think that one are is producing any better than the other, I have heard of more reports of the Baxter, Campbell Point, & Upper Whiter River area, mainly because these areas are being fished more. Fish in the creeks and pockets off the main lake, look for cedars on points, also channel swings where rock changes from gravel to chunk rock. Also look for gravel banks with isolated big rock boulders, or ledge. Fish 1/2 oz. or 3/4 oz. spinnerbaits- slow rolled, and just ticking the bottom 5'-10', with crankbaits or jigs.

February 25, 2003 WATER LEVEL - 910.81 Normal Pool 915' WATER TEMP. 41-43 Fish starting to bite stickbaits fished on main lake and secondary points with submerged cedar trees, in about 15'-20'. Work bait real slow, let set for several seconds between twitches. Try fishing the channel swings back in the creeks about half way back in. Fish around docks in the creeks near channel swings. Best baits: medium billed Husky Jerks, Smithwick Rogues, or Lucky Crafts. Try Chrome/Blue or Chrome/Black on sunny days and White/Black or Purple/Chartreuse on cloudy days. Some jig fish in 10'-20', on chunk rock banks (channel swings), and around brush and docks. Best baits: Team Supreme or Eakins jigs in Brown & Black in 1/4 or 3/8 oz. fish being caught on 1/4 & 3/8 darter head grubs-single tailed, 3"-5", in salt & pepper, smoke, pearl, fished at 15'-25' over 30'-50' of water , around points with submerged timber, and channel swings in the creeks. If we ever get a few warm days, try shad raps and wigglewarts in crawdad patterns in behind the trees you would normally stickbait and on the channel swings in the creeks. Good Luck!

Oct. 24, 2002
WATER LEVEL - 915.19 Normal Pool 915' WATER TEMP. Main Lake 64-67 Rivers & Upper Creeks 59-64
Fishing is still extremely tough, with fish being caught from 2' deep, to as deep as 60'. With water temps continuing to cool down, the shad have moved into the creeks and upper rivers. Forecast is for overcast skies and wind this weekend, so the crankbait (shad & crawdad patterns)& spinnerbait bite should work on main lake and secondary points. I am using Storm 's wigglewarts, Deep Little'ns, & Fat Free Shad Jrs.
There are still some fish being caught on 3/8 oz. & 3/4 oz. football jigs, tipped with twin tail grubs. Drop Shot rigs and spoons working in the main lake & mid river areas-25'-35' deep over anywhere from 25'-100'. When fishing the creeks look for schools of shad, which are right on surface. Slow roll 1/2 & 3/4 oz. tandem willow leaf spinnerbaits, under the schools of shad, also have one rod with crankbait and work it here also. You may have to fish the spinnerbait down about 10'-15' under the shad, in centers of the creek. It can be slow fishing but... the rewards are quality largemouth. Subject: Table Rock Fishing Report 10-16-2002
Oct. 16, 2002 WATER LEVEL - 915.27 Normal Pool 915' WATER TEMP. 66-72 Water temperatures starting to cool down.. In the morning 66-68 and 71-72 in the afternoons. Most of the fish still being caught deep, 25'-30' seems to be the depth. Most of the suspended fish are in some over submerged timber, others out over main lake and secondary points. Bottom depth doesn't seem to matter, may be 40' or 120', but fish are hanging around 25'-30'. We are catching them on drop shot rigs, spoons, 4" worms grubs, Gitzits, in smoke, cotton candy & watermelon candy. Spoons we are using are 3/4 oz. in chrome or white. The Dam, Kimberling City, Baxter & Campbell Points areas seem to be the best. In these same areas are still some quality small mouths, in 10'-20', on points, channel swings, & cuts. We are catching them on brown & blue or brown & purple jigs tipped with twin tail grubs, cinnamon or smoke purple colors. I've been fishing a 3/8 oz. in the morning when fish are shallower and the switching to a 1/2 or 3/4 oz. football jig later in the day. I am also Carolina rigging Chompers & Yamamoto grubs, French fires will work also. The crankbait bite is hit or miss, but should get more consistent as the water cools. Wiggle warts, and Deep Little n's in crawdad patterns. I look for the upper James River and upper White River, and Long Creek to start producing better in the next few weeks. Start looking half way into the backs of major creeks for shad, which are already there. fish under the shad w/shallow crankbaits and spinnerbaits

Oct. 1, 2002 WATER LEVEL - 915.05 Normal Pool 915' WATER TEMP. 78-81 Fishing seems to be the best on main lake areas such as the Dam, Indian Point, Baxter & Campbell Pt. Still a lot of quality smallmouths being caught on jigs & Carolina rigs early. Fish are shallow 5'-10', then move out to 10'-20', on main lake and secondary points, also channel swings. Best jigs have been the Team Supreme's 3/8 oz. Little Rascal in brown and purple, tipped with Yamamoto twin tail 4"-5" grub. Use football jigs in 1/2-3/4 oz-same colors or try green pumpkin or watermelon, Carolina rigging, with twin tailed grubs or baby brush hogs. Fish some Storm wigglewarts in crawdad patterns on the same points. Kentucky's starting to bite a little better at 22'-28', over submerged timber, on 4" grubs, tubes and 4" drop shot rigged worms. Best colors-watermelon, salt & pepper or cotton candy. The upper ends of the rivers have been producing a little more action, but most of the fish have been smaller, this should change if the water ever starts to cool. The shad are in middle to backs of creeks. fish small crankbaits and spinnerbaits, under and around the bait fish, also try flipping tubes or small jigs around any visible cover.

Subject: Table Rock Fishing Report 9-17-2002
Sept. 17, 2002 WATER LEVEL - 914.08 Normal Pool 915' WATER TEMP. 81-84 Fishing has been tough, but it's picking up quite a bit this past week. The smallmouths have started to move up from Hwy 86 bridge in Long Creek up to Campbell Point, to the mouth of the James River. Smallmouths are being caught mainly on the bottom at 12'-18' on main lake gravel & rocky points, also on flats. Almost anywhere you have caught the smallmouths in the Spring, you can find them there now. They don't seem to be stacked up any certain place, you have to move around a lot. Team Supreme jigs, in brown and purple working best for me. Try 1/2 oz.- 3/4 oz. football jigs, same color, or put Chompers, Yamamoto or Team Supreme Venom, 4"-5" twin tailed grubs (greens, browns, watermelon colors) on the jig using a hopping action or dragging the jig works best. Carolina rig will also work using the grubs mentioned above or French fry. I am also catching some Kentucky's on the same points, but a little deeper, around 20'-25', using the same baits. The Kentucky's should start to move in, in better numbers shortly. They are starting to bite some in the James River from Point #9- to Point #12, on the long flat points. There have been some drop shot fish and spoon fish being caught in 18'-25', over deeper water-30'-80' in timber. The best bite has been early, up until 10:00 am, then slows down. The upper rivers have been off, but should pick up this week as the water cools down.

WATER LEVEL - 914.87 Normal Pool 915' WATER TEMP. 85-88
Deep fish seem to be biting early. Fishing has been tougher this past week or so, water needs to cool more. This is typical for Table Rock in the fall. Most of the fish are coming from 25'-30', suspended over tree tops in 50'-60'. I have been drop shotting finesse worms or jigging chrome or white spoons. I haven't found one area to be any better on the deep bite. The water color is about the same all over the lake. I've had more reports from the Dam and Indian Point area that they are catching mostly smallmouths and Kentucky's on 3/4 oz football jigs tipped with twin tailed grubs in 25'-35' on the bottom, on main lake gravel points. You can catch a few fish on spinnerbaits early on chunk rock banks in the creeks, bite seems to end when the sun gets ups. If it ever cools down, like the weather men are saying it will....this should help the spinnerbait bite in cedars work better throughout the lake. The James River, Flat Creek, & Long Creek have been the most consistent, fishing 1/4 oz. Team Supreme jigs in Brown & Black, also tubes, or Texas rigged worms. Fish the channel swings & bluffs in the upper ends of the rivers, also try spinnerbaits and small crankbaits in the same areas.

Aug 28, 2002
WATER LEVEL - 915.62 Normal Pool 915' WATER TEMP. 84-90
The past few nights have been cooling down, dropping the water temperature. It's time to start throwing a spinnerbait. Fish chunk rock points on the main lake w/tandem willow leaf blades in 3/8 or 1/2 oz. Fish the bluff ends, cuts, and rockslide area in the bluffs with spinnerbaits. Also try some crankbaits that run 5'-12' deep. like Deep Little'ns, Storm's magnum wigglewarts, in crawdad colors or shad patterns. Some fish are being caught on spinnerbaits out of cedar tops, 1'-3' deep over 15'-20', on main lake points and points in the major creeks. If the nights stay cool these patterns should only get better.
Deep fish are being caught though out the lake at 35'-45' on the bottom off main lake points and flats. Fish 3/4 oz football jigs, brown or brown & purple, tipped with Team Supreme Venom 4" twin tailed grubs. Also, Carolina rig with Team Supreme tournament fries, lizards, & the twin tailed grubs.
For some shallow water action, go up one of the rivers about as far as you can go.. The Upper James, Flat Creek, Long Creek, Big & Little Indian, w/ the James producing the best. Fish deep Little'ns or Bombers 7A on channel swings, until water gets over 15' deep, then switch to a Fat free Shad, also try spinnerbaits early, fish any visible laydowns on channel side with tubes, & jigs. I use the Team Supreme Tournament tubes, and for the jigs I use the tournament series 1/4 oz. rage jig, tipped with critter craws.

WATER LEVEL - 916.85 Normal Pool 915' WATER TEMP. 85-90
JAMES RIVER, LONG CREEK, & KINGS RIVER
Fish buzzbaits or top water plugs early on flat shallow banks w/shoreline grass, laydowns, or isolated cover. Black buzzbaits have been working best for me. Try flipping Team Supreme tube's ( green pumpkin) or Texas rigged worm (plum) round dead wood on the same banks. There has been a good deep crankbait and Carolina rig bite up until about 10:00 on some days. They bite in an area and then the next day can't get a bite in the same area, move around trying to cover more water until you get bit. Fish main lake flats and humps 12'-20', best areas seem to have a main channel or deep water close by. Also watch for white bass busting shad and fish under them with crankbaits. For Largemouth's mix cranking and rigging on the same flats, shad colored Rapala Fat Raps, Fat Free Shads & DD-22's. Carolina rig 6" lizards, Big and baby brush hogs, Lake Fork baby French fries (green pumpkin & watermelon). Later in the morning run further up these rivers and watch for active schools of shad. Fish snags, stumps, & and any cover on river flats close to the channel. Also having success with Texas rigged worms, tubes, & brush hogs, shallow crankbaits-Bandit 100 or 200, BB-2's.
Sorry I don't have any first hand information about the main lake. I have been doing all my fishing the past few weeks up in the rivers.

Subject: Table Rock Weekly Fishing Report 7-17-2002
July 17, 2002
WATER LEVEL - 918.15 Normal Pool 915' WATER TEMP. 86-92
Most of the patterns up the river are the same as the past few weeks. The patterns and fishing are stabilizing with the water warming up. Fish seem to be locking on the deeper structure better, which is normal for the summer patterns on Table Rock. We are catching several fish from one spot on Crankbaits, Texas rigged worms, & tubes. Fish deep diving crankbaits, Rapala Fat Raps, Fat Free Shads, DD-22's on drops, ledges, or points, where the channel swings up close. Shad patterns are still working best. Drop shotting is also more consistent, from Aunt's Creek area up the James River. Fish seem to be around 22'-28' deep over points and humps. Still catching a few fish flipping the brush & willows, in the upper rivers. The better fish seem to be out deeper on the points & ledges. If you find a point or flat where you can catch fish one day & not the next, you may have to this area several times in a day to be there at the right time. Some fish will be suspended, also, so try Carolina rigged lizards, and brush hogs, in the same areas. Go to the upper ends of the creeks and rivers, fish the channel swings with Texas rigged worms or tubes. Fish 2'-10', also throw small shallow crankbaits around laydowns and brush. This seems to work better later in the day when the shad are up. The Deeper clear water still hasn't been producing very well for me, hasn't been very consistent. I can catch them some days suspended 25'-35' over 50'-80 on spoons, drop shot rig, or live bait. Also, catching some on bottom 25'-32', early in the morning.
If you want a quiet fishing trip, take a canoe and float the Upper James, from Hooten town to Galena. You can rent your canoes at the James River rentals in Galena. 417-357-6957.
I floated it on Monday, and the water was moving excellent, we did very little paddling. We had 2 canoes, with 4 people and caught 60-70 smallmouths, with several over 15". The fish bit from the time we put in, until we loaded out. Best baits were 1/8 or 3/16 oz. buzzbaits and spinnerbaits, in white or chatruese & white. We caught several on Zoom critter craws, Texas rigged with 1/8 oz. weight. We floated 11 miles and seen 4 people all day. Nice and peaceful, with excellent fishing.

WATER LEVEL - 922.54 Normal Pool 915' WATER TEMP. 78-85
DAM AREA, KIMBERLING, BAXTER, CAMPBELL POINT.
Not a whole lot has changed since last weeks report. Kentucky's seem to be schooling up more, best depth seems to be 25'-35' deep over most of the lake, with the bite still best early in the day, until about 10:00 am. As I had talked last week-the structure fish bite should be coming on and it looks as if it did. At least for Eric Holt, it did. He won the Central Pro Am tournament here last weekend. he had 10 fish-38 lbs. caought mainly on deep crank baits, from Kimberling City to Hwy. 76 bridge at Cape Fair. Try fishing around the bridge piers on all the bridges, in 25'-35' with 4" grubs, spoons, a drop shot rig, or live bait. Most of the fish we are catching off long sloping main lake points and submerged humps, in 30'-50'. Some are right on the bottom, some slightly off bottom. Spend a lot of time on the points that have lots of shad present. Keep some topwater baits on your deck, handy. I have found the best and shallowest bite in the Upper James. So, have been concentrating more on fish up there.
JAMES RIVER, LONG CREEK, KING'S RIVER Catching lots of keep Kentucky's on drop shot worms in 25'-35' on main lake flats, best colors, cotton candy, watermelon candy- also hand pours working well. Best bite I am having is from Point 12 to Cape Fair. Cape Fair, up river, we are catching a lot of fish in 6'-15' on Carolina rigged lizards, brush hogs, & French fries. Lot's of short fish, with a few keepers. We are fishing the river flats where the river channel is close by. The better Largemouths should start to show up soon in some of these areas. I am fishing 15'-20' on Carolina rig, and also some deep diving crankbaits. The fish are starting to chase shad throughout the day on surface. Have a top water bait rigged and ready to throw for some action. A Zara Spook, Storm's Chug Bug, a Pop R, and even a chrome jigging spoon, will invite some fun. Some keep Largemouth's and Kentucky's are being caught flipping jigs, tubes, lizards & brush hogs in and around willow trees and bushes. Key on the bushes around points, look for willows that have some dead branches, or dead trees around them. In the Mid James & Aunt's Creek are, the drop shot is also working. may have to fish a little deeper. Say..30'-45'. If you want to try some live bait fishing they are killing them on nightcrawlers and live crawdads.

Fishing was great last week, up until Wednesday. Then it slowed down for a few days for me. A lot of the fish I had been catching had been in about 8'-15', that pattern just shot off for me. Fish seem to have moved deeper. I didn't expect the fish to move this deep so early, water temp @ 70, lots of stain in the lake, but they did... Still catching a few good smallmouths @ 8'-15' on split shot, 4" French fry, & fish doctors, on marble gravel points, and on sides of pockets of some points. Kentucky's have moved deep, 20'-30' on same points and flats. Most of the fish on points and flats seem to be on bottom or a couple feet off. Fishing Carolina rigs, split shot, or 3/4 oz. football jig, rigged with twin tailed Chompers. Best rig baits have been a 4" French fry, 6" lizards, hula grubs, Chompers, and the best colors.....same as always! Watermelon, watermelon red, green pumpkin. Also try Lake Fork Baby Ring Fires. Fish are also biting on the drop shot rig, with 4" finesse worms, in shad colors. Fish are starting to suspend over deeper timber. They are 25'-35' over 50'-70' on points, and centers of the deeper creeks. Top water bite has been slow but should pick up soon, should already be happening.
JAMES RIVER, LONG CREEK, KING'S RIVER In the lower parts of the river, same patterns as the main lake. Further up try spinnerbaits around flooded bushes. Also catching a few Largemouth's, flipping Brush Hogs in the flooded willows. Try to key on willows that are isolated on flat points. The Upper James will be coming on strong soon. A structure bite with deep cranks, & Carolina rigs. The water is clearing up in the rivers now. There are still lots of log jams in these areas, be careful running. Some are just barely under water ,and very large.
1st ANNUAL JACK FARIS BUDDY BASS TOURNAMENT A tournament that our friend Jack had been working on is happening this Sunday, June 2nd. at Table Rock, at Ahoy's boat ramp. It is a charity tournament with 40% of the proceeds going to Stone County Housing and Development. They are a non-profit agency, raising money to offer home loans, down payment assistance, home repairs, & rehabilitation of neighborhoods for low and moderate income members of Stone County. The tournament had been named for our good fishing buddy, it will be called the Jack Faris Buddy Bass Tournament and this will be it's kick-off tournament, as it will be a yearly event. Jack was to run this event, but we will carry on for our friend. He loved to volunteer his time for charity tournaments, that supported such great causes. Hope you can come out and fish with us. For more information, please call 417-538-2159, and ask for Pete or Dodi. They can assist you with further information.

The spawn is far from over, seems to be another wave of fish coming in to spawn in the last 3 days. My clients and I have been catching 40-50 bass a day, with 5-6 shorts to one keeper, Kentuckies and a few Small mouths. Ninety percent of these Kentuckies are still loaded with eggs, mostly in the Mid James and Upper White River areas. Catching some fish on some topwater early & through out the day, on cloudy days. Using Spooks, Storm Thundersticks, Storm Chug Bug's, etc., around the ends of deeper docks, also some of the flooded bushes, in main lake pockets. Split shot working well, as is the grub on a 1/4 oz. darter head (colors-smoke, white, or green pumpkin), and 4" worms on the split shot rig with a Lake Fork ring fry, fish doctors, & Team Supreme French fries in green pumpkin, watermelon, & pumpkin seed. In the Capmbell Point, Shell Knob, Mid James & Aunt's Creek areas, fishing is excellent. We are split shotting wacky worms & floating worms around spawning areas. Water is stained, may mud up and change conditions, with the mud coming in from recent rains. Spinnerbaits & buzzbaits working early around flooded bushes. Some quality largemouths being caught flipping willow bushes and trees. Using brush hogs, 1/4 oz. jigs and Texas rigged lizards.

May 14, 2002 WATER LEVEL - 919.53 Normal Pool 917' WATER TEMP. 67-74 DAM AREA, KIMBERLING, BAXTER, CAMPBELL POINT.
Water levels have been changing daily, actually hourly this past week. Level had reached 921 on Sunday, dropped about a ft. and rose a ft. again on Monday. Best areas seem to be in the White River, from Baxter to Shell Knob. The Upper James has been rolling mud, started to clear up, until the rains on Sunday night. Mud is clear up to Aunt's Creek. Lots of fish being caught on Wacky Worms, Senco's, fished around the flooded bushes. Also try spinnerbaits, buzzbaits early. Fish main lake pockets from Baxter to Campbell Point. Go back in the creeks, like Big Creek. Fish the little cuts in the creeks, and flooded grass on the flats, in the backs of the shallow pockets. Split shot French Fries, Fish Doctors, & Carolina rigged lizards from Kimberling City to Long Creek. The fish seem to be scattered at different depths on different days, anywhere from 5'-20' on gravel and chunkrock points. If it's cloudy try to cover a lot of water with spinnerbaits, top waters-Spooks, Chug Bug's, & buzzbaits. If it is sunny, fish Senco's and floating worms wacky style-best colors-watermelon, pumpkin, & methiolate (sp?, I even tried looking it up!) Try pitching Texas rigged tubes, brush hogs & jigs around the flooded willows. Use black/blue in the muddy water- green pumpkin & watermelon in the clearer water. There are still some fish spawning and I think they will be for the next few weeks to come as water temperature hasn't changed much in the past two weeks. JAMES RIVER, KING'S RIVER, & LONG CREEK Use the same patterns as noted above.

WATER LEVEL - 915.43 Normal Pool 917' WATER TEMP. 68-75
DAM AREA, KIMBERLING, BAXTER, CAMPBELL POINT.
There's not a whole lot changed from last week. The water temperature is about the same. The fish are heavy on beds. Top water bite is coming on strong, using Zara Spooks, Storm's Jointed Thundersticks, Storm Chug-Bugs, & Redfin's, on main & scondary points. Split shot & Carolina rig also coming on strong from Aunt's Creek to Cape Fair, and also from Baxter to Shell Knob.
Split shot bite is slowing down from the Dam to Kimberling, but it is working real well from Kimberling city to Campbell Point to the Mid James area. Fish main lake, secondary points, and the last pints leading into spawning pockets. Try swimming 33"-5" grubs in smoke, pearl, & salt & pepper on 1/8 or 1/4 oz. darter heads, 5'-20' deep on the same points you are split shotting also try Carolina rigs, best baits are a 4" french fry or centipedes in watermelon, green pumpkin & cotton candy. Use the same colors on 5"-6" lizards also. I think the reason the split shot bite has slowed in the Dam area is so many fish have moved up to spawn. They will be back out on the same points after they spawn to rest & feed. Sluggo's, flukes and floating worms working around bedding fish, & steep pockets. Top water is also starting, Spooks, Jointed ThunderSticks, Chug Bug's & Pop R's.
JAMES RIVER, KINGS'S RIVER, & LONG CREEK
WATER TEMP. 54-63 Fish white spinnerbaits, buzzbaits, flukes, early, around shallow cover in pockets. Fish are spawning, they are hard to see because of water color, fish these baits right up on the banks. Be careful of all the logs and debris floating in the rivers, it's worst early in the morning. When the wind starts blowing it's pushing the debris up on one side. Split shotting, Carolina rigging, same as the rest of the lake, working in the rivers.

Water is warming up fast. These fish are ready to move up and spawn, just need the water to warm up and stay there. I've seen a few fish on beds. Should be lots of fish moved up on beds by the weekend if weather stays warm. The water only needs to warm up a few more degrees and topwater baits will be working great. Try Storms Chug Bug, a Redfin, A Thunderstick, or Pop R's, fishing them over deep main points and bluff ends. The finesse bite is really coming on down lake, Kimberling City, Baxter & Dam area. 4" ff finesse worms, fished on the outside of the bushes, 4'-8' deep-early in the morning when sun comes up, fish from 12'-18- deep. Floating worms fished around and behind bushes should be starting to work (white or bubblegum). the bite seems to slow down around 10:00, but picks back up if the wind is blowing, and later in the afternoon. Try trick worms, Senko's, & flukes, around shoreline cover. Rig these baits wacky style or Texas rigged with or with out weight. Fish 2'-5' deep around buck brush & bushes. You can catch fish on just about any baits you like to fish. Small jigs, green pumpkin or watermelon twin tailed grubs, & 4" french fries on split shot, are catching lots of big smallmouths and Kentuckie's on main lake and secondary points, fish 15'-25' deep. There are still lots of fish suspended on the same type of points, and they can be caught on suspended jerkbaits, Rapala Husky Jerks, Lucky Crafts, Smithwick rogues, & crankbaits, When the wind is too strong to fish these points with jigs (black/brown or brown/green) & 4" worms, fish crankbaits-wigglewarts in the same areas 2'-12' deep. Watch for shad activity on surface.
JAMES RIVER, KINGS'S RIVER, & LONG CREEK
WATER TEMP. 54-63 Crankbaits and spinnerbaits working well around flooded buckbrush and bushes. Try flipping Texas rigged tube baits, or brush hogs around and in flooded bushes. Some areas have had over 5" of rain in the last few days. Water is rising fast, fish should move up into the new cover, fairly quickly, depending on how fast the water warms up, also try trickworms, floating worms & flukes around the flooded cover. The same patterns are working up the James from point # 12 on up. Look for fish to be shallower, also try spinnerbaits on wind blown pockets and points. I have also been catching bass on Carolina rigged 4" worms and 6" lizards, 10'-20'-on points of spawning pockets.

It's just about the time of year you can catch fish on just about any baits you like to fish. WATER LEVEL - 916.02 Normal Pool 917' WATER TEMP. 48-54
DAM AREA, KIMBERLING, BAXTER, CAMPBELL POINT.
Tournament results for this past Saturday and Sunday show that lots of fish are being caught and all quality fish in excellent condition. Saturday at Childrens' Miracle Network Tournament, it took over 25 lbs. (5 fish) to win and 10th place was over 15 lbs. Sunday at Central Pro Am Associations Buddy Bass, it took over 24 lbs. (6 fish) to win and over 15 lbs for 10th place. lot's of different patterns appear to be working, but alot of them changing daily. Fish seem to be caught from all over the lake, one area doesn't appear to be producing more than another. A lot of moss on the bottom of most of these areas, crankbaits on bottom, or small jigs can be a problem when it is present. Many fish being caught on stickbaits, on main lake & secondary points.15'-20' deep on suspending medium bill Husky Jerks, Lucky Crafts, 7 Smithwick Rouges. Try chrome/blue on sunny days and crome/black on cloudy days, and the Table rock special purple back/chartruese sides, white belly. Don't forget wigglearts in crawdad patterns, in the same areas, and further back into the creeks. Fish points and side of points, best spots are where the creek channel swings in close to point or bank. Chunkrock banks seem to be producing better. Also, try 1/4 oz. & 5/15 oz. jigs, black/brown & brown/green tipped with critter craws or small salt craws. Best jigs-Team Supreme's Little Rascal, Bass Hound, & the Eakin's Jewel jig, fished from 2'-15 ' deep, work them around the boat docks too. There are lots of deep fish still suspended over submerged timber & gravel points, depth of fish varies from day to day. Keep an eye on your electronics, fish will be from 10'-30' deep over 20'-80' of water. 3", 4", & 5" single tail grubs working best, smoke, salt & pepper, or pearl fished on 1/4 oz. darter heads. Make long casts, count down bait approx. 1' per second, then just reel in slow, alot of times you won't feel the bite, it just loads up on it. Feels like you hooked a tree.
JAMES RIVER, KINGS'S RIVER, & LONG CREEK WATER TEMP. 48-54
Stickbaits and crankbaits working where the water is fairly clear. There is a lot of mud running in from recent rains, the water will be colder the further back you go. I have also heard of several spinnerbait fish being caught around the buck brush in shallow pockets where the water has lots of color. Shad movement seems to be better in the afternoon on sunny days as the water warms up.

Sorry for the lack of fishing reports! We have been traveling most of the winter fishing the southern lakes. Pete has sent me this report as he has collected from others fishing, as he is still not back to Table Rock, and wants to keep you all informed of what's happening here. Most all the fish are still being caught deep, but they have been on the move constantly, as they are in their pre spawn pattern. Depth on the fish may vary from 25'-50', the key is finding the shad. Look for the fish to be suspended off bluff ends and long main lake gravel points, look for them in the cedars with deep water nearby, or the centers of creeks with 40'-50' bottom depth. Finding smallmouths on gravel, flat points and chunk rock banks. A few largemouths are being caught on suspended stickbaits, at main lake and secondary points, over tree tops. Fix your boat in about 35" and cast into about 15'-25'. Medium or shallow billed are working best on cloudy or windy days. Best colors- Blue back, chrome sides, & white belly, or black back working good. On clear days, try a deep billed. Catching Kentuckies and smallmouths on Team Supreme jigs tipped with twin tailed grubs, jigging spoons, on maim lake and flat points. Best colors-smoke, green pumpkin, watermelon/red flake twin tail grub, or green pumpkin Hula-grubs. On windy days, Wigglewarts fished real slow on and around secondary points, chunk rock banks, & pea gravel. Crawdad patterns working best.
JAMES RIVER WATER TEMP. 46-51
Catching a few Kentuckies on the channel swings in the creek arms. Put the boat in 55' and cast into 25', work jigs down ledges real slow. Wigglewarts working on windy days on steeper chunk rock banks, bluff ends, and pockets. Also, use some crankbaits in crawdad patterns, or stickbaits in and around some of the shallow docks, pockets, bluff ends, & steeper chunk rock banks.

Spoonbill season opens Mar. 15th and goes until the end of April. Hard work for the snaggers trolling the bottom for these monsters. The effort is well worth the trouble when you hook a 100 lb. + fish. Spoonbill fisherpersons recommend light saltwater casting rigs with 50 lb. test line and substantial snagging lures. If the weather holds, season opener should be fantastic. |

DAM AREA, KIMBERLING, BAXTER, CAMPBELL POINT.
I've only been on the water 1 day in the past two weeks. My report is coming from those who have been fishing. There were two tournaments weekend, an Ahoy's Winter Series, and Woods & Waters. Lots of limits weighed in, it took over 21 lbs. ( 6 fish) Saturday and over 19 lbs. (5 fish) on Sunday. Lots of fish being caught deep on chrome & white 3/4 oz. jigging spoons. Better quality fish seem to be coming out of submerged timber- 40'-55' deep over anywhere from 60'-150', on channel swings & bluff ends. Fish are being caught all over the lake, there doesn't seem to be any one area producing better than another. Kentucky's averaging 2 1/2- 4 1/2 lbs, being caught on long flat points and humps, 40'-60' on spoons, single tail grubs, Gitz-its, & drop shot finesse worms. Fish are also around docks and rock changes where chunk rock changes to pea gravel, 6'-20' on 3/16-5/15 small brown jigs, Team Supreme, Jewel, or Eakins Model jigs. Several reports of quality smallmouths being caught this way. Try going up the Upper James or Upper Flat Creek, where the water gets crystal clear and fish in the last of the colored water before it clears. Fish channel swings, 2'-10', with jigs, small crankbaits, also you might try throwing suspended stickbaits in the same area.
Check out the results below from the Ahoy's Winter Series tournament held on Dec. 8th, 2001
Incredible is the only way to describe the fishing on Table Rock Lake right now. Large stringers, large fish and fish being caught on virtually every pattern imaginable from shallow crankbait and jig fish to deep fish being caught on spoons, grubs and gitzits. Jack Stack and Mike Baurer of Springfield, MO captured first place in the second Ahoy’s Buddy Bass Tournament of the 2001/2002 Winter Series with six fish weighing 21.78 pounds, anchored by the large fish of the tournament, a 6.04 pound largemouth. They won $840.00 for 1st place and $350.00 for big bass. Finishing in second place was the Davis brothers of Willard, MO,. Jackie and Jimmy weighed a six fish limit weighing 20.81 and had the second big bass of the day, an awesome 5.68 pound Kentuckie. They took home $420.00 for second and $150.00 for the second place big bass.

Sorry about the lack of fishing reports the last few weeks. I've been Peacock Bass fishing in Brazil, and the to Lake of the Ozarks for a BASS tournament. I fished Table Rock on Sunday and Monday, and talked to other guides and locals and fishing is still tough. I had two keepers Sunday on a drop shot rig, during a guide trip. Monday, we had a good day, four keepers on a 1/4 oz. brown Team Supreme jig, fished around shallow docks in the James River, and three keepers in the Kimberling City area, on wigglewarts, on main lake, wind blown points. Spent over 4 hours fishing deep without any success. What's working good on one day, doesn't seem to work the next. you have to be versatile. The reports I have accumulated from other guides and local....The Dam, Indian Point, Kimberling City & Baxter areas-the fish are being caught on chrome & white jigging spoons fished 50'-60' deep over submerged timber, on main lake points and bluff ends. If the wind picks up, fish windy banks, where the chunk rock turns to gravel, with wigglewarts, Deep'Ns, or Bombers in crawdad patterns-browns, greens, with orange bellies. Also had some reports on schooling fish on main lake points, but ends early when the sun comes up
UPPER JAMES RIVER
The Upper James river has a lot of shad in the backs of the creeks and pockets. Watch for fish feeding under the shad throughout the day and slow roll a 1/2-5/8 oz. tandem willow spinnerbaits under the shad, or a shad colored medium billed crankbaits. Don't be afraid to fish real shallow around the boat docks in the backs of creeks. I will be on the water most of the week, so hope to have more information for you in my next report.

WATER LEVEL - 909.65 Normal Pool 917' WATER TEMP. Main lake 72-76 Rivers 72-78 I haven't been on the water for a week because of the off limits for an upcoming Central Pro Am Championship tournament here this weekend @ Table Rock. But, I start prefishing this morning so I can tell you what I'm going to do to locate and try and catch fish. With the previous tournaments on the lake this past weekend, it looks like the deep fishing is still producing more fish. Early in the morning I am going to try spinnerbaits, tandem willow blades in white and chartreuse, and crank baits- Storm's wiggle warts, bombers, in crawdad colors. On or near main lake points, on chunk rock gradually sloping points. If the wind is blowing at all, will fish on some windblown points or banks. I will also throw some top waters, A jointed thunder stick, spook, or chug bug. I'll start out in about 15'-20' water and fish over and around submerged timber, on main lake and secondary points. With the weather changing this week, and forecast for wind, fishing should be great! Look for spinnner baits and crank baits to work all day if it's overcast and windy. This should work all over the lake. If the sun comes up and it is a bluebird day, I will probably go to the deep pattern on the main lake or head up to one of the river arms (way up) and fish shallow, probably around 2'-8', watch for shad, and fish crank baits, and spinner baits, around brush piles on the flats. Some days the clearer it gets, the shad become real active and the bass just follow them. Any way, looking forward to this weekend, I hope I am successful in finding some quality fish to bring to the scales! |

WATER LEVEL - 909.67 Normal Pool 917' WATER TEMP. Main lake 72-76 Rivers 72-78
The best bite is still deep 30-35', suspending over 40'+(as deep as 130"). Best spots are where the old river channel swings up against a point or flat, also over submerged timber in 60'-80'. Where the tops of trees are 30'-40' deep. The best way to find these spots are, idleing around off the points and flats, watching your electronics. Also, if you find shad suspended 20'-40', fish around them. My best baits have been 4" drop shot worms, in shad colors. Also, 3"-4" grubs, single tail in smoke, salt & pepper working well.
JAMES RIVER
We are still catching fish on spinnerbaits, & shallow crankbaits, early, on main river points where chunk rock turns to pea gravel. The bite has picked up as the water temps cool down. Look for shad activity from the center of the creeks to the backs. Slow roll a 1/2 ounce spinnerbaits under the shad, also try shad colored shallow diving crankbaits.
Mid James-most of the fish are being caught here are suspended, anywhere from 30'-40', in anywhere from about 30'-80' of water. This bite also seems to be over early, around 10-11 am. Fish long sloping points, and humps- best techniques-drop shotting 4" worms, 3"-4" single tail grubs, smoke or salt & pepper, fished on a 3/8 oz. -1/2 oz. darter head. You have to spend time on the trolling motor & electronics, on these large flats and points, locating the shad. The fish are under or around them. The spoon bite has slowed down for me.
LONG CREEK
Fish are up in the upper Long Creek, from Cricket Creek on up. We are catching them on, shallow crankbaits, Texas rigged worms, & spinnerbaits. Fish the shad on the flats, if they are present. If not, crank and flip the wood along the edge of channel.
DAM AREA, KIMBERLING, BAXTER, CAMPBELL POINT.
Some good smallmouths are being caught on small jigs in the tops of visible cedar trees 15'-25'. Best colors are craw-dad colors. Kentuckie's, are on the same patterns we used in the James. Topwater action on Red Fin, Storms Jointed Thunder Stick, Spooks, & spinnerbaits. Fish around cedar on main lake and secondary points. This bite is over when the sun gets up.

Subject: TABLE ROCK FISHING REPORT 9-12-2001
September 12, 2001
WATER LEVEL - 909.76 Normal Pool 917' WATER TEMP. Main lake 81-84 Rivers 81-85
First thing I would like to say before I enter this report, is that we are deeply saddened by all of those who lost their lives, & loved ones yesterday. Also, for the brave men and women who made the attempt to save lives and lost their own. A special thanks for all those who continue to work diligently. Please keep all of these people in your prayers, as they attempt to recover from this tragedy We are still in a state of shock today, as is, everyone else I know. God Bless America, and all those who love her.
JAMES RIVER
Water temps. continue to cool, and the Bass are making the change into their fall patterns, and the fish continue to move from the flats. With the fish moving from their summer patterns in to their fall patterns, it is hard to pattern the bite, it varies greatly from day to day. You can catch them today one way, and not get a bite the next day, using the same pattern. This is very typical for this time of year. Carolina rig bite and deep crank has continued to decline. Jigging spoons near the mouth of larger creeks as shad and fish start moving back into the creeks. I am finding them in 25'-45' over 25'-100'. The Upper James and Flat Creek are still producing on small crankbaits, spinnerbaits and tubes. The best fishing seems to be in the Mid James, Baxter, Campbell Point, Kimberling City areas.
LONG CREEK
Shad have still been active in Upper Long Creek, & Yocum Creeks, fish the same patterns as noted in the James areas. Also, try a buzz bait early, around isolated cover on the shallow flats. As the lake level continues to drop, more brush piles and stumps are becoming visible.
DAM AREA, KIMBERLING, BAXTER, CAMPBELL POINT.
3/8 & 1/2 oz. spinnerbaits are working early on main lake rock transitions, chunk rock to pea gravel, or ledge to gravel areas. Also catching fish n small crankbaits, such as wiggle warts, 6A Bombers, Norman- little'ns, in crawdad patterns. The deep bite is still the most consistent. Most of the fish are coming on Drop Shot rigs, 3/4 oz. chrome or white jigging spoons, 35-45' deep on bottom, on bluff ends or long sloping main lake points. I am catching some 30'-40', suspended over submerged timber. With the lake dropping, fish main lake gravel points and long sloping points, on 3/4 oz. football jigs-brown and purple tipped with twin tailed grubs. I have been using the Team Supreme C-Twins, with much success. Spinnerbaits are working on the cedar t | |
