Next time you go crappie fishing, and find your crappie hole, try dropping your line into the water until it is no longer visible. Then let out another 12" of line and let your bait rest there. Crappie eyes are positioned to look up and forward. They will swim up to bait, before swimming down to it.

When crappie fishing with live bait it is best to use bait that is the same size as the schooling bait that the fish are feeding on at that time. I usually purchase both medium minnow and small minnow to prepare for this. Try and find schooling minnow and this serve as your indication on what size bait to use.
