Might be interesting.

I thought this was PSL, Morro Bay board?
Just thinking out loud. (e mail)
Nice fish though!

Cuaght two limits of Rock Fish today, for two people.
A little rough, but fishable.
A DFG biologist was very interested in the catches at psl and weighed, measured every fish.

Here are some pictures of the tuna. It is hard to center the fish in the picture while it is moving and the camera is underwater.

GET BACK TO TEACHING! .... First day of school and your already screwing off! ... Me and Dave had a great time on the water with the kids last Tuesday. I ended up fishing everyday last week for a good mix of Reds, Lings and things. Thursday pulled a 20lb flatty up around the Ab Farm solo .... so looks like the flat ones are starting to pick up Wes.

Weather was great except for the pea soup fog on Wed ..... Lots of bait out in front of Cayucos... Smelt and dines mixed in with the pin head chovies.

4 Sale sign hanging in the boat, but will be fishing her until she sells...

Good job dad. There is nothing like the memory of that fo a child. I have daughters that are getting older now and they love to talk about past times, especialy the first fish.
By the way do you still have the nice rod and reel in the photo? Looks like its bet over pretty good. Judging from the flasher on the deck it might be a cannonball but I can`t see which way the line goes.

Got on the water late and it was a little snotty in the A.M. The family was a lot tougher than I expected and never batted an eye. Big thanks to Kevin on the Dos Osos, he called us in on a wonderful show. We saw breeching, flukes and lots of close ups. We ran back in to the AB farm to try and let my 5 year old daughter catch her first fish, and boy did she! Great day on the water, family will remember it forever, thanks to all of you who helped with information!

Fished out of PSL in the mini-Avocation today. Got a 1/4 scoop of chovies/dines mix. Headed up to the Pea Patch and fished from 60' in towards the beach. Caught 5 keeper lings for the day (released), 1 28" 'but in the box, but we left way too many fish in the ocean today. Lost a 30" fish at the boat (spit the hook), I busted off what felt like a fat one (nick in my line somewhere), and my buddy lost another heavy one after a few head shakes and a run. Plus we had a few other raked baits. They were definitely biting today, just couldn't put very many in the boat. Best depth was 55-60'. My buddy Ceviche got two nice buts today in the same area. Good fishing.
Heard some guys fishing down off the Coke Plant...they hadn't caught much by 10 a.m.
best fishes,
steve

Fished Cambria area on Saturday for 3/4 limits of rock fish and four lings. The bite was a little slow and most of the boats near us made the run for the light house. I don't know how they did. The weather was perfect, nice sunny day with no wind at all. we were still fishing at 1500 and only left so we wouldn't have to wash the boat in the dark. Chip, I was also in Cabo last week and fished a panga out of San Jose for 6 yellowfin to 50lbs and two Dorado. I will post some pics later this week.

Just returned from two weeks in Cabo. I got in 4 days on the Tailchaser. Day one, 5 yellowfin to 30 lbs and 15 skipjacks to 15 lbs all on live sardinas. 2nd day, eight yellowfin tuna to 30 lbs and one striped marlin at 110 lbs. Day 3, 9 dorado to 20 lbs, one striped marin, 120 lbs and two sailfish, 110 lbs. Day four, 10 dorado to 20 lbs and 14 yellowfin tuna to 30 lbs and left them wide open biting. Gave most of the fish to some local friends and their families. I did bring home 25 lbs of tuna to can in case the albacore don't come close. August is the hot month down their both in temperature and action.

Great Sheryl, you can sleep good now with one under the belt. Sounds like Ed got lucky too, nice. Are you sure you don't want to name the boat Playin' Salmon? You guys always scrape 'em up when there's nothing there.
Taking out an old dead oak today in the yard, I hope & trying to salvage my fantasy football team after a terrible draft. Please someone make my day with a good fish report. Late, Scott

Fished out of MB Sat, ran down to Buchon, perfect weather. Caught two limits of reds, blues and two lings. released three canarys and a beutiful kelp greenling. those fish are something out of this world!
Funny (sort of) storey for the day, cleaning fish at the station near the boat launch with several other crews one guy gets stuck by a spine prety good, anyway he's jumping around and wimpering so I asked him what fish stuck him and he pointed it out. a three pound canary. The fish counter there confirmed it. canary karma I guess.

Forecast missed is right! I abandoned my boating plan in order to punish myself on my new Mountain Bike at Montana de Oro. I had a beautiful view of Hazards, Spooners, and Pt. Buchon from the ridge for most of my ride when I wasn't down and rolling in the dirt. It was beautiful out there and hardly a boat to be seen. I saw glassy conditions all the way up until I limped home at about 2:00pm.

Wes
I think they kinda missed the forecast today
As of 11 a.m. at Santa Maria Bouy:
Wind Direction (WDIR): ENE ( 70 deg true )
Wind Speed (WSPD): 5.8 kts
Wave Height (WVHT): 5.2 ft
Dominant Wave Period (DPD): 10 sec
I didn't make it out, but it looks like a nice day to me. The forecast isn't great for tomorrow, but I'm guess it will be nice in the morning.
The ocean is almost always nice South of Port San Luis. Lots of otters, seals, sea lions around. An occasional whale, but not as many as MB usually has. I'll be out in the morning. Give a call on the radio and I'll let you know if I've seen anything. That's a good tactic out of MB too. The whale watching guys often ask for info when they are heading out on a charter.
good luck.

We were out there a few days ago and it was jus' booming with life

Went out of PSL Thursday morning ,it was low tide but doable in my 20 FT. Seaswirl.
If anybody wants to know where all the bait is it’s in the bay between the launching area and the pier.
Had a great day of fishing, limits of rockcod and three lingcod.
I think we lucked out, the water laid down for about three hours.
We caught 12 canary rockfish, released all of them as per the CDFG stupid law, with about a 50% survival rate.
I know you all went through most of this earlier in the year; I just wanted to complain a little.
Im fishing next year legal or not !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Harrell, thanks for the information it’s never to late.

Al, Sorry you didn't have any luck with the salmon, if that was you out there trolling this morning we were further south of the red light in about 145 ft. of water. We decided to go for halibut and I finally shook my hex with a 22 lb. halibut, thank goodness. Of course Ed caught the bigger one at 25 lbs. It was well worth thre trip to the coke plant. We'er taking the rest of the weekend off, good luck to all of you. Sheryl.

I trolled 3 hrs this am for salmon where Sheryl caught hers last week. No luck and no bait balls to speak of. Bait has been in tight. Will Bateman, I think these August and September salmon could be from our Central Coast Salmon Enhancement efforts. This is the time of year when we used to net them in the estuary at the golf course years ago. I was going to catch one and see if it looked familiar.

Keep fishing , looks like there might be a little wind for the weekend , but maybe still fishable close.

Hi, Guys and Gals,

I haven’t been out yet this year because I had open heart surgery, but I’ve been following the postings and doing what I can on the computer. I’m so thankful to you guys for all the hard work you’ve done, with special thanks to Mel, Harrell and Bob.

I want to go fishing tomorrow, but I understand there is a small craft advisory. If I leave from Avila at 6 a.m. and get in by 11 or 11:30, would that be cool?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!!

Sincerely,

Jim Chandler / On Porpoise

The Governor.......

I've been seeing a lot of: "We're gonna throw the bum out" posts lately, and I'd like to say that you are unfortunately playing right into "their" hands. I know you're not voting for Angelides, but will be joining the majority of Californians who don't vote. We have a legislature filled with extemists from the right and the left who are all voted in from safe gerrymandered districts-- did you notice how the redistricting measure just didn't make it on to the ballot because they were to busy with bills to tax our ammunition, or restrict illegal immigration.

In the current crisis I see the beginnings of a powerful movement of regular people whom Arnold claimed to represent. As a sportsman I always considered myself an "environmentalist" but now I'm forced to fight against people who should be my allies.

Consider the origins and early tactics of the environmental groups that have grown large and powerful. Through lawsuits and selective political actions they attracted a following and money, and lots of it-- my mother was always sending money in to save those cute little seals. With all these funds there has got to be corruption. We need to seek it out. We also need to make our political parties more in touch with the needs of the vast majority of Californians instead of the prison guards union and the anti-gun lobby.

Keep fighting, organize demonstrations, elect candidates who support our positions. If there aren't any then run yourself. We have a great and wonderful democracy, but we can't let it become like a backyard boat that slowly becomes atrophied and useless.

Philip Miller

I can't believe that I am sounding like an environmentalist! Actually, I am a conservationist who is increasingly pissed off at all the political and environmental wussies who want to control my fishing! Time to let them have it. Time to dump our girly man governator.
Cloud, I am finally getting on the same level you have been on for a while. Time to ACT!

Just a note: if you send an email as per the coastside instructions below you might receive a slightly nasty email in reply from someone who does not want any dams removed on the Klamath. Deal with it, dams on our coastal rivers have created a plethora of problems for the anadromous species of the west coast. I say, get rid of them!

Had a nice talk with the S.L.O. Republican headquarters today. I basically told them that I felt the Gov had sold us out and he doesn`t realize the gravity of this decision, both in the damage it does to us and the votes the party is going to lose in this election. I told them I wouldn`t support any Republican candidate this election. He mentioned about being a single issue voter and I told him that this single issue is incredibly important to us. Will Bateman was next on his call list.

This is from Coastside and it is easy to do, so do it:
IF YOU CARE YOU MUST FIGHT.

We have a rare opportunity to save our future salmon seasons for us and our children that will take less than five minutes of your time.

Coastside has been working under the radar screen for the last couple months putting together a campaign to remove the dams on the Klamath River, and open up 300 miles of spawning area. We have enlisted UA and our lobby in Washington DC (ASA).

Our Washington DC lobby has stepped up in a major way by enlisting 12 national organizations besides themselves to help, and has taken the leadership roll in DC. Our job will be to push it over the top with a huge campaign of letters and or e-mails.

I, like you am tired of the constant battle we seem to find ourselves in, but if we don’t try and do this, who will?

This is an historic opportunity that I feel is a real possibility. These dams right now are under negotiations for possible removal.

What I’m asking is for this membership not to give up or depend on the other guy to get it done. It is up to every one of us that want to continue salmon fishing in the future to go to the two links ASA provided, and sign your name and hit send, this can't get much easier. This simple task will send a letter to the corporate owners of the dams and your congressman.

Dear Governor Schwarzenegger,

I have been a Central Coast resident all my life. My father introduced me to sportfishing as a child. I have been fishing the Central Coast shoreline for over 30 years. My family has enjoyed the seafood that I have provided via fishing and spearfishing as a staple of our diet. We enjoy fresh seafood from local waters and I would not consider obtaining seafood from any other source. As an avid recreationist with a bachelor's degree in biology from UCSB and a Doctor of Pharmacy degree I would consider myself to be well educated. I have additionally worked in the local Central Coast commercial fishing industry while in college. I have never experienced a decreased ability to catch groundfish in any area of the Central Coast. As a diver I have personally witnessed the bounty of the local waters which team with rockfish. I am baffled at a decision to close these waters that so many people rely on for recreation and their livelihoods. Special interest groups should not be allowed to influence sound policy. I do not consider myself an environmentalist but I am concerned with our environment. These marine protection zones put the burden on your public voters and will certainly cause you to lose votes. Please listen to both sides of the argument as this decision is one-sided and not based on any sound scientific reasoning.

Re: Letters to government:

Big thanks for taking the time for composing & e-mailing letters to The Terminator of Rockfishing Schwarzenneger. All excellent. We only need about 25,000 more of them and/or a petition. Which BTW IS do-able, WTF.

I did some research into "how to get involved" a while back and feel this is important to share. While e-mails are a good start, a personal letter (such as those below) signed and either mailed regular or faxed is given much more weight. So when doing the e-mail, you can be twice (or more) effective by printing out, signing, and faxing or mailing also. It only takes about another 1/2 minute.

Google up "Fish or Cut Bait"--its an article by NMFS on how to go about communicating your concerns about fishing to government. I tried to attach but too large.

Other recommended reading: Rich Holland at WON did an excellent article called Wolf in Sheeps Clothing that starts to expose the MLPA for what it really is--the most significant threat to your freedom in CA history. And as we see now it has been hijacked by extremists; & the primary stakeholders are being sidelined. Cloud out.

Dear Governor
I am a republican and I am deeply concerned with the decisions that have been made by your MLPA commission for the central coast. After years of working to build a consensus at the eleventh hour everything was thrown out the window and replaced by a radical environmental position that is more restrictive than any of the plans that were put forward. The fisherman of the Central coast do not have the luxury of the north with there Salmon or the south with there warm water species. There are only two ports on the Central coast between Santa Barbara and Monterrey. The only reliable fishery we have is rock-cod which is already severely restricted. The current proposed plan effectively closes all the rocky bottom areas within easy reach of the two central coast ports. This will end recreational fishing in the central portion of the state and endanger the lives of the fisherman who will have to fish further from port. The sad fact seems to be the area with the best stewardship of the resource is going to take the brunt of the closures because of our lack of political power instead of scientific data. I hope you will look into this and find out the facts. Please don't rely on Mr Hattoy's input as he is a total farce as a commissioner who has never heard of the term compromise. I have never been a one issue voter but this smells real bad and I can't see the scientific justification to close all the Central coast fishing areas. Governor please don't make us the scape goats to gain political favor. I am willing to do my share to protect the resource but not willing to give up my life style in it's entirety.
Sincerely
Terry Schafer

Dear Governor,
I am a republican and I supported you and voted for you for governor. I can no longer offer either my or my family's support after the recent Department of Fish and Game's decision on MLPAs in the Central Coast area. I have been a sport fisherman off this coast for 40 years and I have a degree in Biology from UCSD. I am also the current president of Central Coast Salmon Enhancement, a local non-profit conservation organization. I can tell you with 100 per cent accuracy that the people who made the MLPA decisions have no clue about the condition of the fisheries off the Central Coast, but I can. I fish here most of the year and the groundfish stocks are at more than sustainable levels. If fact fishing here is as good here as I can remember.
You were obviously given bad information, or you wanted to impress the environmental contingent, but you sure made a big mistake. It makes me sick that people who do not use or know the marine resources off the Central Coast have been given the power to stop those of us who know and love this resource from enjoying it.

Dear Governor,

You lost my support for funds and vote because of your recent Fish and Game Commission decision to impose needless permanent marine reserves on the Central Coast. Science and the legal intent of the MLPA were completely ignored in their decision. I know, as your office appointed me to the Regional Stakeholders Group to the Blue Ribbon Panel. Close to 80% of the rockfish habitat was unnecessarily removed despite stock assessments indicating a sustainable fishery. Adaptive management policies have been working well. The economic impacts can be in the billions of dollars and the social and cultural impacts go beyond measure. The next time you are looking for campaign money please don't call.

Cloud and Josh,
Somewhat belated but thanks for info. Just checking the post since leaving Los Osos on Wed.

Heading out today for Fort Bragg and hopefully find the elusive LFT. Spoke to several folks from Whitethorn (outside of Redway/Garberville area)they said the bite is wide open up towards Shelter Cove. Anyway, I hope I am not a week late on this. I understand the fish can move 15 miles per day...In any event, I am in the hunt-

What a line-up of boats at PSL this morning like the old days. It was good to see. I had to try for salmon at least another time and we got one more, 2 miles south of the red light an a gold crock ran strait, not big, gutted and gilled 6lbs. but it still made my day. We'll be back tommorrow, probably going for rock fish .
Bye for now, Sheryl

The halibut don't like to bit on Thursday or Saturday either. Fished Pea Patch and then down off Bird S&!$ rock for 0 halibut again. Saw 1 hali get caught at both spots, so they are out there. Both fish were just over 22". Not sure what's up with the halibut this year. I only got skunked 2 or 3 days last year...been skunked more than not this year.
Ed and Sheryl caught another salmon today. Wow...that is cool. I'm sure they post detail later.
best fishes,
