Tim, I sure as hell am not on Georgie's side. He's nothing but a damn liar. And, yes it is his fault that gas is $3.50. Duhhh! The guy supports big oil. BTW Capps did not vote to attack Iraq and waste $350,000,000,000.00 (and counting)of taxpayers money on a pack of lies. I'd say she's a hell of a lot better than bush based on that alone. |

Chris Foster, In the regulation book for this year, salmon season closes Sept. 25th.. We fished today trolling the coke plant for 8 sand dabs, all released. Then ran back in to beat the weather. Maybe next weekend. |

Finally got to restless not to try so went out looking for albacore on Sunday. Followed the water breaks out 30 miles and got some nice breaks from 56 to 60 degree water. Put on 60 miles checking for nothing. Somewhat clean water out past 30 miles but dirty inside. Did see some dolphins and whales but no birds or bait. Billy Boy did have some nice bait that lasted the whole trip. Anything uphill was sloppy as the wind was 15-20. At least we got a good charge on the batteries. Maybe next time. |

Yeah, you're right Mike.....it's Georgie's fault and Andrew, Shirley, and Lois know what's best for all of us and taking this that direction with that response, it's most obvious as to what side of the fence you reside. |

Chris Foster-- I dunno! Woulda checked had we actually fished for them. Playin' Hooky whatsay? Know when does salmon closes? Tuna fever needed a cure and Saturday sure made that happen. We made it out about 20 miles (6 past the old weather buoy coords) before it got just to snotty to fish. Washing machine conditions. 57 highest SST. Just couldnt get out there far enough. Ended up with limits of quality RF including 3 real nice vermillions off Pecho. Sunday ended up with one ling 26" and two sand dabs (released) hali trollin. Nothing would bite anything even when FF loaded with marks. That's OK was hoping mainly for a whitey sighting but no luck there either. Still waiting for a decent tuna weather window....Cloud out |

Tim, If you're implying that allowing offshore oil drilling will bring gas prices down I think that you are dreaming. There aren't enough reserves out there to make a dent in demand. That's just oil company propaganda. BTW, as I recall, gas prices under Clinton were under $2. Now with Georgie boy it's well over $3 and going up. Hmmmm, "Mission Accomplished"? In the article they said that they want to "pump agricultural wastewater contaminated with selenium from Central Valley fields to the coast, where it would be dumped two miles offshore into Estero Bay". Do you think that will be good for the fishing in the central coast? I don't. Frankly, if we don't protect the environment we won't have any fish to catch (like the canary in the coal mine). Personally, I think that this right-wing knee jerk attitude about the environment is bad for fishing and gives fishermen a bad name. JMHO |

Phillip. only one spill that has been publicized that I know of and that was about 30 years ago. Of course they drag that file footage out every time this comes up. No one ever takes them to task. By the way those rigs are fish farms, I used to fish them in So. Cal. Capt dave |

These people have their heads firmly planted so far up their asses that it's amazing. We need to go in the opposite direction. I would lobby to see several offshore structures with responsible oil production. They, on the other hand, seem to be quite comfortable with near $10 per gallon fuel costs. |

Hi Caster, Sorry about the sar dine comment. Just made me chuckle. I was chased right to the beach by a huge white shark while surfing in Solana Beach in 1969. He was trying to cut me off from land until it got too shallow and he ran aground and went berserk. The dorsal was three feet tall on that bugger! I have been dreaming about it since then. Only saw one other one while surfing off Santa Rosa Creek in Cambria about twenty years ago. I have seen a few tigers in Hawaii. I am glad to have all my appendages. I enjoy being in a boat these days. Will |

No, My wife and I used to take our 15 ft canou out of Shell Beach and paddle out to the edge of the kelp beds, she would read a book while I fished, She had just commented that "We never see any big sharks out here" when I noticed a BIG shark cruising right under us, I kept quiet about it but it was too big not to notice. Well when she saw it you could probably hear the shriek all the way to Avila. She grabbed the paddle and was going to go berserk on that fish if it got any closer, but it circled a few times and buggerd off. That was about twenty years ago. |

I fished for about 4hours off Avila pier yesterday.... and caught everything except for whitey. I did count 17 seals at one point scattered all around the pier cruising through bait balls. Only one hit on a whole 10inch makerel... but it spit the hook after I set it. Great white, or sea lion. We'll never know! Channel 30 from the valley was there though. I'm tryin again this weekend |

Fished PSL in the mini-Avocation today. Got a mix of sards and dines (actually chovies and dines) from deke and headed up to the pea patch. Slow day, but we did manage to put a 25" fish in the boat around 11 a.m. We caught it on a chovie in 40' of water. May have had one other halibut hit...but very slow overall. Only 1 short ling to the boat. John's forecast nailed it...light SE wind this morning, but built up to a strong breeze from the NW by noon. Ripping at 1 pm with the sheep out in force by the time we got off the water at 1:30. Doesn't look like good tuna weather. best fishes, steve |

Here is John's (PGE) forecast ; SEA/SWELL: Hurricane John (115 knots or about 130 mph) is about 50 miles off the Cabo San Lucas coast and is well to the east of the exposure window for Diablo Canyon. This Hurricane is forecast to move west-northwest into cooler waters and weaken. Tropical storm Kristy on the other hand is in the window, but at 60 knots it too bears little threat to our area. Swell trains from these tropical cyclones are only expected to average about one foot (with a 10-12 second period) from (170°) along the Diablo Canyon coastline on Tuesday through Thursday. On the other side of the Dateline is Typhoon Ioke, the strongest Central Pacific hurricane in more than decade. Classified as a Category 5 "super typhoon" knocked out Wake Island's weather sensors on Thursday as it lashed the isle with 155 mph winds with gusts up to 190 mph. This tropical cyclone is moving northwest toward Japan. As this storm reaches the coast of Japan on Wednesday, it is forecast to produced significant wave heights to nearly 50 feet with maximum wave heights approaching 90 feet. Ioke is the first Category 5 typhoon to develop in the central Pacific since record keeping began in the early 1960s, and it is the most powerful storm to pass through the region since typhoon Emilia and Gilma, both in July 1994. Swell from this storm is not expected to affect the Diablo Canyon coastline. Increasing northwesterly winds along our coastline will continue to generate a 3 to 5 foot northwesterly (300°) sea/swell (with a 5-9 second period) through Tuesday. Gale force winds off the Northern California coastline will generate a 5 to 7 foot northwesterly (300°) sea/swell (with a 5-12 second period) along our coastline on Wednesday through next Friday. Combined with this northwesterly sea/swell will be a 1 foot southern hemisphere swell (with a 16-19 second period) on Tuesday through Wednesday. Overlapping this swell will be another 1 to 2 foot southern hemisphere swell (with a 20-22+ second period) on Thursday, increasing to 2 to 3 feet (with an 18-20 second period) next Friday and Saturday. ATMOSPHERIC CONDITION: Coastal low clouds and fog will develop during the night and morning hours. Otherwise, mostly clear, cool and breezy weather will develop along our coastline during afternoon hours through Monday. Inland temperatures will warm to the mid 90s to the low 100s this Labor Day Weekend as high pressure in the upper atmosphere builds across the state. The remnants from Hurricane John will give increasing mid to high-level clouds and a chance for sprinkles on Tuesday through Thursday. Weather is not looking good. Saturday 10 to 20 then 15 to 25 in the afternoon with gusts to 35 knot's. I can go whenever the weather comes down. I'll try and get some guy's from the All coast board to help with the hunt. As most of you know coverage is key and the more boats we can get the better are chances. It will happen. George; Check your email and let me know if you got what I sent. Steve; This is the time of the year when the big albacore start to show but they usually are hard to get on the troll. Stop on meter marks and soak sardines. We have caught a lot of them at the PSL buoy this way and the water does not have to be very clean. Still can't tell what the weather might be. The marine layer is back in out there so no Chlorophyll shot today. |

Hey Stuart, Psl does have bait. Mix of sards & dines. If planning on PSL launch its best to check the tide table. (Can't get out of there on low, semi-low tide due to sand) A few guys launch the day before and take a mooring for the night. Then get a ride out to their boat(s) by Deek, PSL HP, water taxi or sleep on your boat. Dustin: How many crew needed ? |

Their is good break at the old weather buoy but I cant see the water color. Its a short run if the weather picks up. Kind of a long shot but this season is slipping away and there's been little coverage due to weather. I'm still willing to check it out. Does PSL have bait? |

Donut: I'm in Sat if the weather stays reasonable Will Bateman--thats great, glad to hear it! I read the whole thing (MLPA, MLMA and NFMP), looked at the picture of what was happening, and every alarm bell in my head went off. The problem is that MLPA is NOT what it appears to be on the surface, confirmed beyond any stretch of reasonable doubt by recent F&G Commision "hearings"--I was there at Sacto and Monterey. The video is posted on the web also anyone can see for themselves. The letters below are GREAT, thanks to all for making your voice heard. This is going to be a protracted battle so don't give up--send those letters every chance, support CCFCC! Cloud out |
