This was posted on BATS on 10/11. Catch was made just above the Davidson: "Capt. Donnie on the Atun from Moss Landing reported 48 albacore on today's trip. Size was a mixed grade with about 1/3 from 17-25 lbs and the rest peanuts. They hit bait, iron and trolled jigs. The Kahuna had 8 albies and the Pacific Horizon from Port San Luis had 10 albies. Weather was choppy with a SE wind most of the day. laying down on the ride home." |

Fished PSL yesterday(Thursday)got a scoop of bait from Deek and fished off of Pecho 130-190ft for limits of reds. After making one move I was telling my Buddy about people having seals jump onto their boats when all of a sudden a freaking mad seal jumps and crashes into the side my boat and continued to harrass us for a couple minutes and got out of their and went in shallow to what I think is the Pea Patch anyway we hooked into a mystery fish in 50 foot of water that just kept running till it broke off. sheaded about 30 foot of line.Great day on the water except for the seal. |

Update from the tuna searchers. Paul and Marcos just returned from out past the elbow (I think). They fish long and hard on a flat calm ocean for no tuna. I guess Michelle did catch a few fish today, but it was slow for her too. The fish were small, with the biggest they heard of being around 15 pounds. I have no more details than that...but thought I would pass along some second hand, second hand information!!! |

Friends: Tonight from 6 p.m. to 8:30 there will be a MIG (Marine Interest Group) meeting at the Morro Bay Community Center (Multi-Purpose Room). A key topic will be about the Nearshore Fishery Management Plan and season restrictions because CDFG remains "data poor" concerning the 19 nearshore species that they are mandated to monitor, assess and regulate. [As you know, the impact of remaining "data poor" means that our recreational rockfishing tonnage-quota MUST be reduced by 50% ... that explains the shortened fishing seasons in recent years] Deb Wilson-Vandenberg of CDFG is in charge of implementing the NFMP and will be there to explain the "potential" of using our MIG on-board survey to help get us out of the "data poor" condition. Liz Clarke is the head of the marine biologists for NOAA Fisheries. She will also be in attendance and will discuss collaboration with outside groups in in effort to get California out of its "data poor" condition. Another issue on the table is whether or not the feds and state of California are willing to carve out a region of the state that has more and better data so that a portion of the coast can get out of the "data poor" status. The feds have a lot to say on this issue ... Hopefully Liz Clarke will be able to answer questions on this topic. The meeting is open to the public, so come out this evening if you are interested. To bad the tuna have not shown back up, but it could still happen. Thanks for the update on the Davidson. I stuck to my plan for an outer island trip and fished Rosa for quality shallow water rockfish and lings. Limits for 3 and 4 keeper lings. Nice when you can get quality in 70-90 ft. of water. Great day on the water with only a little south east wind. After rockfish tried the east end of Rosa for halibut. No live bait and no luck on the buts. Only fished about 1.5 hrs at high tide. On the way home we hit Painted cave on Santa Cruz. Had a crew member who had not been into the cave. Very cool always like to check it out when weather permits. Eyes on the water and weather for tuna hope they pop back. |

Greetings, Fished PSL yesterday in the mini. Got another great scoop of huge chovies and small dines from Deke and headed back up to the Pea Patch (I know I should diversify, but I almost catch halibut there!). There was a pretty good offshore wind blowing in the morning, which made for fast drifts. It laid down around 9 and totally glassed off by 11. After that it was t-shirt and shorts weather and actually kinda hot! We managed a 23" fish on our second drift, but then had a huge dry spell until about 1 pm. Fortunately the lingcod were on the chew and kept us entertained. We probably landed 12 lings, with a few of those being keepers (all released). A lot of those were over the sand! Finally got a big pick-up around 1, let it chew on it for a bit and then set the hook into a heavy fish. After a decent battle, we boated a nice 31" 12 pound flattie. We were stoked! Fished that area for another hour for a short and a nice 4' leopard shark that really smoked me on my halibut rig! All fish were caught on big chovies in about 50' of water, probably about 100' from each other! We also saw a 25# barndoor at the cleaning station! Fun, gorgeous day on the water! best fishes, Steve |

Friends: Just back from the "Davidson" with Dustin & Patriot Sportfishing. 13 fishermen traveled north leaving last night at 10 p.m. and returned tonight at 11 p.m. (25 hours) for 12 puny albacore. The crew tried hard all day to put us on the fish .... but the critters were not to be had. Fish all under 8 pounds.... Long boat ride. Mel |

Fished out of Luffingwell on Monday for limits of lings', 6 reds, 3 blues, 2 cabs & 1 tree-fish. All came from 35 to 40 ft of water. Perfect weather for near-shore fishing. Looks like the kelp cutter has been thru there recently as alot of kelp was floating unattached & heads-up. |

15 to 20-lb albacore are reported at the Davidson. Here's some additional info from Bayside: "There is a boat catching some Albacore at the Davidson. The numbers are around 35'51/122'36. The boat is doing research and not fishing hard but they have 30 fish. There are 2 commercial boats running down there now so I may get a late report tonight." |

OK, so I was a little optomistic about the marine forecast! It seemed OK when we left the harbor at 6:00AM (with no bait!). The south wind and bump got worse and worse the farther we went. We made it out to 00:20 and the temp was 60.5. Wind was so bad we had to troll north (downwind) and it was nasty. We headed back inside where we had seen a lot of birds and the water was 61.5. This was about 8 miles inside the numbers above. We had all five jig rods go off in there for five big BONITO.. We were beat up so we headed in and the weather got better and better inside. Anyway, we gave it a try and I still think we would have connected if it weren't so lumpy out there. You just don't feel like going further out when you are wet and getting slammed. Better luck next time.. Will out |

My son is to nice , what he forgot to mention is the boat has been back to the dealer we bought it from for the same problem , water in the bilges, every time the bait tank is used you will get at least 8 to 10 gallons of salt water onboard, do you think that MIGHT have anything to do with the VOLVO CPU problem. Out of warranty by one month means nothing to me , they caused the problem therefore I feel they are responsible for it , if you are a dealer you SHOULD be able to fix a problem that arises with the boats you sell. I think that the dealer is responsible for the whole MESS . Anyway thanks guys for the options you have given us , hope this gets resolved without a lawyers help. Blackie/ Sr |

Matt- I take my volvo diesel to Pacific marine in Ventura/ Oxnard and have had satisfactory results. They are on La Palma Dr. just off of Olivas Park. Eaisiest way is to take the Victoria off ramp and head like you are going to Channel Island Harbor. Take a right at Olivas Park and La Palma is on the right about .5 mi. You have to park on the narrow street and drop the boat and they will move it into the yard. FYI when I took delivery of my boat I had them do a mechanical survey and while it was in the yard someone lifted my VHF radio mount and all. I now remove most of my equipment from the boat if I need to leave it. Kind of a pain but they are the closest Volvo diesel repair shop to the central coast. Will and Big Will hope you guys find um and change my plans from Halibut and rockfish to tuna. Go get em and good luck. |

Greg Wahl at Marks Marine/Santa Maria might also be worth a try. Will--certainly looking forward to a report, wed looks a better weather day to me tho. Also a little further away from the (*) full moon. FYI--FWIW: NWS has posted that El Nino is for sure coming back....Cloud out |

Anyone Know a good Volvo Diesel tech. who works on the new generation boats. We had a computer crash on the last albie run at 52 miles out. Thankfully the computer that crashed was only controlling the gauges, flowscan, trim, and engine monitoring systems. It did not affect the engine running, but it was unnerving none the less. We took it back to Costa Mesa and they don't seem to have any idea what is wrong. It is out of warranty by one month so I would rather take it to someone closer who know how to work on them. It is a 2004 Volvo D-3 130hp diesel in a seaswirl boat. Any info is appreciated. |

Braved the strong offshore wind this morning for some of the best red rockcod fishing of the season. We fished off the Cayucos abalone farm in 85-90ft of water, with a scoop of dines from the Billy Boy.We caught over 35 reds between 8:15-9:45 along with a couple keeper lings and 2 sole which went almost 5lbs each. The reds were all in the 4lb-8lb range. It was really amazing local fishing,...If the weather cooperates we will be fishing albacore on Wed....Hopefully,someone will get on some fish earlier in the week and give me some guidance....jeff |

Alex, I'll prob fish Rosa for Halibut and shallow water rockfish if the tuna reports continue the same. Don't know if bait will be available but if I can find the bait guys number I may give him a call. If I go I'll launch out of SB around 0600. I am hoping that the guys get a good shot at the tuna and find some though. I'll post again with plans. |

Les. We all have our fingers crossed that more albies and compact care size bluefin filter-in. This upcoming good weather window that Harrell points to should allow for some good coverage. Curious if anyone has worked south recently to give the 1908, Arguello Cyn, and Rodriguez a good grooming. Could be time. |
