Well I posted a message yesterday but for some reason it's not here today...hummm. Anyway I fished saturday and picked up a dorado and 3 YFT, school fish 18-20 lbs. We got them about 8 miles out, green water, tried outside for no luck. Wind picked up early and we had to come in. Went out again early today same area 8-10 miles from Mancora. Found some skippiesand moved out a couple more miles when the jigs went off. Got spooled on one and landed 2 Yellowfin about 30 lbs. Saw 2 striped marlin but couldn't get close enough to bait them. Windy again, 15-20 on the outside. I'm leaving Tuesday so I don't think I'll get out again. Tight Lines Jocelyn |

Went down to the wharf this am for a couple of hours. Seems like the wind finally came down last night and should hold for a few more days. THE dorado are coming in steadily with size ranging up to 30 lbs. The yellowfin are finally showing, most are school fish to 40 lbs. Heard of a couple bigger, 60 plus, but didn't see any. Saw a striped marlin, about 80 lbs, and a couple nice swords at 140 kilos, dressed. Well now I have to try going out, see if I can get my share. Tight Lines Jocelyn |

Winds broke loose today on the beach, and by the way it looks offshore, it's probably blowing 25 this pm. No problem though, the whole fleet is in anyway, it's Sunday. We'll see what the wind does Monday. There were a few boats that fished fri-sat that brought in a few dorado. Tight Lines Jocelyn |

winds are reasonable for fishing right now, 10-15. Saw a couple dozen dorados come in today, 15-20 lbs. Kinda slow here so far. Still haven't found someone to go out with. Just as well they're not exactly jumping in the boat right now. Tight Lines Jocelyn |

Well no one is fishing for the next few days, the fishermen who live in the Santa Rosa neiborhood are having a 3 day party, so it should be another 3 for them to sober up. We'll see if I can get out. I think I'm just going to have to bring a boat here. Tight Lines Jocelyn |

I still haven't gone out. I'm chewing at the bit to get out. It's been windy to 20 knots on the outside, but it did come down a bit today maybe 15-18. Commercials are having a tough time of it, but reporting schools of 5-8 striped marlin prowling 10 miles off Acapulco, a few schools of small skippies, not many yellowfin and all footballs. There was one bigeye brought in at 187 kgs. last week. The boat I fish on is having mechanical problems, so we'll see what happens next few days. Tight lines Jocelyn jocelynsj@excite.com |

Alex, thank you for the e-mail. Looks like the Cristina had a good couple of days out there. Those marlin pictures looked great, I could feel the excitement of everyone working the fish at the boat. From the looks of the foto it looked liked a striped marlin, definitely not a blue, I've never heard of a white in the Pacific, I'm sure it was a striped marlin, what the fishermen in Mancora call a "vela". Well the other day where you landed 30 yellowfin, 20 bonito and a perico (dorado) sounds like an excellent day of fishing. Wish I were there. Hope you can post some of those pictures here on fishreports.net for others to see. |

Hi Jocelyn, We have the following fishing reports: December 9: “Cristina” departed from Los Organos to Cabo Blanco, the day was sunny, wind was at 5 knots, water tempt. was between 21.3 to 21.9º C and total distance 25nm. We caught 20 Tunos (7lbs); 5 Tunos (15lbs) and 8 Bonitos (4lbs). December 14: Local fisherman from el Nuro came home advising that on December 13 they caught large quantity of Tunos (7 to 30lbs) and 11 swordfish (80 to130lbs). My brother should be arriving by Friday to go out fishing for the weekend. Will keep you advised. Tight Lines, Alex

Talked to Captain Pedro Tume, just call him "SERENO", he runs a panga out of Mancora. Said the weather has been calm, and fishing slow, the fishing fleet has been working to the North at Acapulco for yellowfin tuna. I guess the wharf in Mancora is void of any fishing action. Alex if you picked up a few tunos off Cabo Blanco there must be some off Mancora also, 15 to 16 miles isn't too far to run. Wish I had time to come down and do some fishing. Tight Lines Jocelyn |

Jocelyn, We were suppose to go out today in the Cristina, but we have strong winds (25 knots) coming from the south and cool. The water tempt is low too (70ºF). The info we have from La Caleta del Nuro is that few small Tuno’s and Barriletes were caught, nothing important. Will keep you advice. Tight Lines Alex

Alex, Thanks for the report. I was wondering what was going on down there. Haven't heard from you in some time. Well striped marlin at 5 miles sounds great, much closer than I've seen them in the past. Maybe have a great season this coming summer, hope so. What you call PEZ SIERRA is what we call WAHOO. Excellent fight and the best eating, I haven't seen many in northern Peru, but it's great to hear they're getting some. Looking forward to returning to Mancora when I finish working up here. Hopefully we'll get to fish together next time. Tight Lines Jocelyn jocelynsj@excite.com |

Jocelyn and Maurice, Please be advised that Cristina is back on the water after being on land for one month for her annual maintenance. Local fisherman has reported catch of Tuno’s; Bonitos and Pez Sierra (don’t know the English translation). Also they have reported seen Stripped Marlins 5 miles out. Will take Cristina for a test ride on November 11. Will keep you advice. Tight Lines, Alex

Hi Yocelyn & Maurice, We are waiting for the report from El Nuro (6/7pm) from the local fisherman to see what they caught today. If the news is positive then we are planning to go out tomorrow in the Cristina at 5am. The waters today are blue and sea temperature is above 75ºF. We went out last week, but heavy current from the north and the 12 whales that show up did not help in the fishing. The week before we went out fishing and we caught 8 YFT 30/40lbs and we had a big Black Marlin chasing us, but did not want to hook. My phone at Los Organos 857100. Tight Lines Alex

Went out Tuesday 0500 am, headed toward Cabo Blanco, heard the local jig fleet was picking up YFT. We worked 18 to 20 miles offshore with the fleet only picked up footballs. So I headed in about 5 miles found an edge and some birds working. Drifted some chunk skipjack, got bit on two lines, one 60 lbs YFT and one just over 80. Birds disapeared and never got bit again. When the wind started we ran (slowly) back to Mancora. Tight Lines Jocelyn jocelynsj@excite.com |

Anyway went out at 0500 this am (Saturday), at daylight, about 12 miles out, through out the jigs trolled for about an hour and picked up a blind one, 25 lbs yellowfin... worked the area and picked up 2 more at 20 lbs each . The weather was flat calm with a slight breeze late morning. I'll see if I can get out one more time this week. Tight lines Jocelyn jocelynsj@excite.com |

Well went out last night for giant squid, windy 15 plus knots and DARK. We ran out about 20 miles where the fleet was....and the fun started...cold wind and chop...we started catching squid about nidnight and fished until about 3. We ended up with some 300 squid in the 30-40 lbs range. A few were in the 70 lbs. You needed a lasso to bring them in, it was a fast furious frenzy. I dont think Ill ever get rid of the ink stains. Hi Maurice, The blacks do show about now, but as of yet I havent seen any marlin, at sea or on the docks. Ill try to post more later this week. Tight Lines Jocelyn |

Well I'm back in Mancora. Weather has been a bit cool in the evenings but in the mid 70s and sunny days. The fishing has been slow lasty week due to cool water. Tons of bonito last few weeks. Plenty of wind on the outside. This week the commercial fleet turned on the POTA...giant Humbolt squid. This morning boats were lining up with deck loads of squid in the 30-60 lbs range. Looks like I'm going to have to go out and spend the night out there to get me some. I'll post results. Tight Lines Jocelyn jocelynsj@excite.com |

Got an e-mail from Julia Maria at Cristina Charters in Los Organos. She says fishing has been slow due to cold water temps. The good news is the giant Humbolt Squid are wide open. If you like catching these night stalkers, you could have a lot of fun, and good eating. Tight Lines Jocelyn |

Jocelyn, I went down to the wharf today to see what was happening. It looked like a good day. There were tons of a big toothy fish that looked kinda like a lingcod but streamlined for speed. Creepy looking fish. I saw one guy who seemed like a highliner with tons of those toothy fish, half a dozen yellowfin (30-60lbs) and a pretty big swordfish. I dont know how to estimate the weight but it was taller than you, with its head cut off. It was a spectacular fish. There were a lot of good sized skippies too, some up to ten pounds. Its quite a scene down there, i had a lot of fun watching. I have been down to the wharf before, but there were mostly small croakers and bass type fish. I checked the pier at Playa Lobitos as well and it was only local fish, the boats were all sailboats. Cool looking red fish that look like starry rockfish. I think I will leave Mancora in the next few days. Ive enjoyed my visit, but I need to work to the South. The waves are reputed to be firing in Chile in March. Thanks for all the tips about Mancora! later, chris. |

Hi Chris, Good to hear from you. Cabrito is goat, and it"s pretty good. Those guys on balsa rafts are very primitive, I've seen some 10-15 miles offshore with a small sail. They are either ballsy or nuts. Mostly I think they are just hungry. Hope you get some good waves, Cabo Blanco should be better. There are plenty of guys in town that can point you to the right beaches for surf. Good luck let me know how it goes. Tight Lines Jocelyn |

Jocelyn, Im in Mancora, ive been here for a couple days. i havent been down to the muelle yet, just surfing and hanging out. there are a ton of chilean people in town. ill go get a fish report for you today or tomorrow and post it. i went to the mercado for menu yesterday. it was pretty good. i think it was goat, they were calling it cabrito. there are waves, but its small. i think i might wait for the lima girls to show up this weekend, then split to somewhere else with bigger waves. how are those guys that fish off rafts a couple hundred meters out? crazy, they remind me of huckleberry fin floating down the mississippi. there is a boat drydocked on the sand and the boys are getting ready to launch it soon. i want to see them get that thing out through the surf. later. chris |

I'm back in California now. Wish I was down in Peru the weather is much warmer down there. I received an e-mail from the Cesar down in Organos. He told me the Cristina had gone out and picked up a Striped Marlin and a couple of Skipjacks. They sent pictures, but so far I haven't figured out how to post them on this website. Maybe my kids can show me how to do it. If you go to Peru and fish please post your info here. Tight lines Jocelyn jocelynsj@excite.com |

Didn't fish today, I'm busy tying up loose ends for my trip back to California. I'll be there on Sunday. The weather here continues to be warm, but the nights are unseasonally cool. And the wind picked up again. At 10 am it was blowing 15-18 knots on the beach. It should be flat calm by now, maybe it's just going to be another windy summer. The boats that came in brought nice YFT again, 80-120 pounders. The dorado keep coming in more numbers but a bit on the small side, 15 to 20 lbs for big ones. Went to the pier to see what was coming in today. Most boats had stayed in since Saturday. Two boats did fish. One came in with quite a nice load of skipjaks, a bit bigger than they have been, 8-10 lbs average. They had 7 YFT 80-110 lbs., and a couple dozen to 35 lbs. Several nice dorado too. The second boat had 3 striped maarlin to 150 lbs, 1 YFT at 85 lbs. and some 20 dorado. Looks the the bigger tuna are back, now that I have to leave. The weather today is great, less than 10 knots. I just got back from Organos, I saw a nice little sport fisher based there. It's called the Cristina, 32 foot classic wood boat. It's comfortable and the skipper has quite a bit of experience. I'll try to get reports from them from time to time. Tight lines Jocelyn jocelynsj@excite.com

I haven't been able to access this website for several days, very slow system down here. Today is Tuesday 20th, I fished yesterday around the platform off of Cabo Blanco, half day. Fished around 30-40 fathoms ( no fathometer, just guesstimating ). Water green, cloudy, calm, 6-8 ft swell. Picked up 3 jacks to 20 lbs. on iron, one small grouper 8 lbs. On the way back to Mancora picked up a small dorado on Mexican flag. The swell has been coming down from the weekend. There are lots of dolphins working bait in the ancorage, mackerel and sierra can be caught right in the anchorage. The weather has been great, 80-85 degrees, the Ecuatorial current has been pushing South and pretty strong, but that could change any day, as it always does. The few boats that went out yesterday brought back small loads of yellowfin ( to 20 lbs.) and skipjack ( 5-8 lbs. ) they were fishing inside the shipping lanes ( 10-15 miles out ). Hi Chris, Good to hear from you. The weather is great here. You just have to stay out of the sun from 1100 to about 1600 hrs. My forehead has pealed 3 times now. Every time I think I'm ok I stop wearin g a hat...not good. I went to the pier this morning, the swell had come up from yesterday. I was out on the end sitting when I saw it coming... so I moved to the middle of the pier. Everyone on the end got drenched, and the people at the begining og the pier got washed off (almost) there were at least 8 swells that clobbered the pier. I was having a beer at the beach in the afternoon and the point was breaking at 8-10 feet. Problem was the wind, 20-25 knots, should be less than 10 this time of year. At the pier the commercials were bringing in small football tuna from 10 miles out, and I saw the first Black Marlin in 4 weeks, weighed in at 350 Kilos, figure it out...2.2x350=700 plus lbs. about half the size of the world record from Cabo Blanco. Some day someone will beat Glassels record, maybe here in Mancora. I've got one more week here, I'll try to get out again. Chris you can call me at home after the 25th., I'll tell you where to go if you want to live cheap, you could even stay at my farm if you like. Tght Lines Jocelyn jocelynsj@excite.com |

Jocelyn, how's it going. sounds nice in mancora. has the surf been good? mancora sounds like the place to go to get waves and good weather. i'm coming down february 8th and i'll be there for probably three months, unless my money runs out sooner. sounds like i'll have to try and catch some fish if they're still around. i've been in mexico for the past month, avoiding san luis weather. it's not bad up here though right now, but rain is forecasted on monday. i'll call you when you get back to get the details. later, chris |

Didn't fish today but I went down to the pier , as I usually do in the morning, the boats that fished brought in bigger YFT to 40 lbs, and more than in the last few days. Quite a few swordfish too, probably 15-20. And then the usual skipjacks. No Marlin, a few large sharks. The weather changed, it was howling to 20 knots on the beach at 9 am, and the swell picked up to about 8 ft, good for the surfers, hell on getting back and forth to the boats. I'm back after 3 days of fishing. Went out Monday in the afternoon. Headed 295 degrees from Mancora. Water green and cool ( 70 ), overcast, 15 knots of wind. At 8 miles picked up first YFT. We kept on a straight tack out to 17 miles, ended up with 20 YFT all in the football size. Spent the night drifting, picked up some mackerel, giant squid and a 150 lbs swordfish on a live mackerel. Next morning we had drifted out to 26 miles, the water was dirty cloudy green. We trolled all day looking for a break, color change, birds, dolphins...any sign of life, it was a long day, we ended up skunked. Went inside to 13 miles and drifted the night. Got more mackerel and squid and an 80 lbs thresher. This morning we were at 23 miles, the water was clearer but still on the green side. We started picking fish on jigs at 7 am, a mix of YFT to 20 lbs and skipjacks. We ended up catching 56 fish today, not exactly wide open. It was a tough 3 days, I was glad to get back to my bed to take a nap. It's difficult to sleep on an open deck in 15 to 20 knot seas, cold too even down here. I've tried to get to my mail but the internet here is very slow and haven't been able to open my mail. I may be fishing on the weekend again if my bones mend. Maurice, I think the seamount you refer to is the Mancora Bank. But I would have to look at the charts to be sure. The boats do fish the area with very good results, including bottom fishing for grouper and such. There are plenty of Marlin around, I just haven't had the luck to catch one, I don't know...wrong bait or jigs, who knows. There are plenty of striped marlin being brought in by the commercials. I've seen several blacks, and I talked to one sportfisherman who caught a blue marlin last wednesday. Most of the YFT have been found on the troll, with more hook ups on stops with chunk bait and jigs. I've worked the dolphins but so far haven't had any luck on them, but I have found YFT under working birds. I haven't caught any bigeye but the commercials are getting some in gillnets, which is what they use mainly, except longline for dorado. Maurice write me at my e-mail if you would like me to help you out with reservations ( hotel, taxi, boat), I'll be glad to help. Today I didn't fish but I went down to the pier to see what was coming in. The YFT are still being caught but smaller school fish 10-20 lbs, and I only saw 2 fish about 120 lbs. The catch seems to be half what it was a couple weeks ago. Same goes with Skipjacks, smaller quantities. The striped marlin are coming in regularly at about 3-4 per boat. There was one swordfish, and I saw the first wahoo this season. The best news is the Dorado are much larger than 2 weeks ago, 25-40 lbs and the numbers are increasing, but you need to run 35-40 miles for them. Outside of that the weather turned muggy, looks like rain tonight, and the wind picked up to 15 knots on the outside. Driving up to the border with Ecuador tomorow for some biz, have a good weekend Tight lines Jocelyn jocelynsj@excite.com |

Ichiban, Enjoy reading ur reports, keep it up. Chart shows 3 sea mounts about 35 miles NNW(and about 35 miles from shore) from Mancora that rises to 125 meters in depts of 2000+ meters. Does any of the boats fish those mounts? I have the chart for the area and will plot GPS coordinates for the ledges. Surprised that no marlin are coming up with all the skipjacks around. Are the yellowfin caught in porpoise schools or bird and baits and moving? How about the Bigeye...how do the locals catch it? Whats the water temp? Can't wait for my trip!! Great weather again today, less than 10 knots in the PM, flat calm all AM. Worked between 26 and 30 miles SW, no real wide open fishing but we did get 18 YFT 15-25 lbs, 5 Skipjack and 3 Dorado in the 20 lbs. Didn't see any marlin today, but lots of mantas. Going to take the next 2 days off. Good fishing. Tight Lines Jocelyn jocelynsj@excite.com

Went out to same spot as yesterday, but no luck. We kept on trolling SW for a couple of hours, no birds no fish ...no signs of life. At about 25 miles we had a triple Yellowfin, all 25-30 lbs. Drifted some chunk bait and picked up 5 more YFT, 1 at 63 lbs and 1 at 88 lbs, the other 3 were 25-30. Then it was over, no more bites. Saw 5 striped marlin but they weren't interested in our jigs. The weather was incredible, light breeze less than 10 knots. But it would be nice to find some shade out there. The commercials are bringing in less tuna than a couple weeks ago, but they are getting more nice Dorado, outside about 40-45 miles, and lots of striped marlin, probably 2 per boat. Yesterday one boat brought in a 190lb bigeye. Tight Lines Jocelyn jocelynsj@excite.com |

Wednesday 7, Jan. The weather has taken a turn here. light rains every night ,cloudy but warm days (85+). Water temps about 70-74, deep green. Went fishing this PM with Samuel Dyer and son Pietro. Calm seas, less than 10 knots, saw birds working about 5 miles out, ended up with 5 YFT to 70 lbs and 2 dorado @ 35 lbs. Back at the pier by 5 pm. Everyone was happy and sun burned. I'm just glad to go fishing when the wind isn't screaming. Back out tomorow. Tight Lines Jocelyn jocelynsj@excite.com |

Well Happy New Year everyone. I'm on my way back to Mancora this afternoon. The weather here in Lima is awful, gray and humid. Can't wait to get back to the sun up North. Hopefully the wind has laid down enough to get some serious fishing before I have to leave for California. Will post conditions for the next few weeks. Tight Lines Jocelyn jocelynsj@excite.com |

Maurice, Sorry to hear we won't connect down here. Feburary will be right in the middle of summer, the winds should be at less than 10 knots by then, and the large Dorado will be cruising offshore. I've seen quite a few Black Marlin so it should be even better when you arrive. I'll be glad to help you out with reservations or anything you need, let me know. I think you'll have a great time, just bring lots of sun screen. Tight Lines Jocelyn |

Well Christmas day turned out to be blistering hot (100+) and the winds picked up to about 35 knots in the afternoon. Yesterday the wind was back to normal, 15-20, we've had light rains for 3 nights but the days are sunny and at about 85 degrees. Some boats were out yesterday, still bringing in schooling Yellowfin with some in the 80-90 lbs class, I saw one bigeye come in this morning at about 200 lbs., 3 swordfish, and as many skipjacks and needlefish as you want. I'm leaving for Lima tonight to spend New Years with family, will be back first week of January. Hopefully by then the wind will have died down a bit and we can get into some good action. If you want to fish down here, I'll be here til the end of January, give me a call. Tight lines Jocelyn jocelynsj@excite.com |

MERRY CHRISTMAS EVERYONE. It's blistering hot today here on the beach, about 90, wish I was fishing. Last couple of days the swell came up BIG, wind died down to about 10-15 knots. Plenty of YFT (good grade up to 90 lbs)and skipjacks coming in, 3 or 4 marlin per day, and a handful of dorado still on the small side. I'm spending the day with the family, can't go out anyway...the fishermen are all nursing hangovers. Tight Lines jocelyn |

Went out early this morning, ended up about 12 miles SW, water 70 degrees, off green dirty, birds working and pilot whales. Had 23 YFT, most in the 20-30 lbs, 8 over 60 lbs. by noon. Nice day wind came up late morning to 15 Knots. If you want to come here let me know, I'll be here til late January. Tight Lines Jocelyn jocelynsj@excite.com |

The wind is still blowing hard outside. The commercial boats that have been getting out have been returning early, but with good catches of YFT. The last 3 days I saw several boats come in with 50% of their loads being Yellowfin from 70 to 90 lbs, nice fish, and they are catching only 5-7 miles SW. The Skipjack and Dorado seem to be farther out 25-35 miles, along with black marlin and swordfish. I still plan on getting out there but as soon as there is a break in the wind. January is always a calm month, I'll be out there. Jocelyn jocelynsj@excite.com |

Today is the 17 Dec. its been windy since Friday, Sunday and Monday blew about 35 knots on the inside cant imagine what it was like on the outside. This morning I saw a boat bring in an 80 kilo ( about 166 lbs. Yellowfin ) and plenty of schooling YFT to 35 lbs. The comercials are rigging up for longline Dorado fishing, they are still on the small side ( to 15-20 lbs ).Water temp about 70, sort of green, air temp at the beach 85 and dry. I should be going out in the next few days. Tight Lines Jocelyn jocelynsj@excite.com |

Fished Friday 4am to 630pm, 35 miles SW of Mancora. Overcast skies, 70 degree water, 15-20 ALL DAY, Worked Spinner Dolphins and Pilot Whales early morning for nothing, moved out and landed some 20 Skipjack, 1 Yellowfin, and 4 Dorado. Found 2 Black Marlin about 400 lbs, but they would not take the bait. Hundreds of Manta Rays. Fished on a 19 foot panga that handled the 6 to 8 foot seas and wind very well, we were a bit wet but did OK. Next month should be much calmer. Bring lots of sun block if you come. Flying back to Peru on December 4, I'll be in Tumbes/Mancora probably 5th or 6th. I'll be down there till January 23. It will be summer down there, lots of Perico ( Dorado, Mahi-mahi, Dolphin fish ), TUNA (yellowfin and big-eye!!) this time of year. I'll be in contact with a charter boat, if you want to fish Peru send me a note here. I'll be glad to help you out. If you do come down bring insect repellent, there have been 3 cases of Dengue Fever in Mancora, and several cases of Malaria in Tumbes. Ah paradise in the tropics! Tight Lines Jocelyn |
