Hello --- Extremely Sorry for Fish Reports being down. Long Story Short --- I'm moving (moved) hosting providers (moved to Rack Space, which is top of the line). However, the move did not go as smoothly as planned. I moved all my clients, not just Fishreports. Anyway, I'm also upgrading message boards, which has added to the down time. Again, Sorry for the inconvience!!! thanks! |

I’ve been a lurker on this site for quite some time and thought I would jump in. I’m putting the finishing touches on a home built 24’ outboard fishing boat and have gotten to the point of wiring this thing. I don’t know much about amps, batteries, combiners, bus bars or switch panels and was hoping that someone could assist me or recommend a marine electrician in the area. I’m in Morro Bay. Thanks, Aaron |

Andrew, As far as I know, there used to be some lobsters off Shell Beach, but normally they are not found above Point Conception (where there are tons of them). You will have to go south. Will |

Hey Blackie, is that "evil" bloody sandworm still the best medicine on those feesh? I've been thinking about giving it a shot but there are still Ducks and Geese that need a killin'. 3 more weekends and that's over...then it's back to feesh. |

Thanks guys! I was hoping to find someone that could look at the overall setup including the antennae as it is mounted so I was planning on hauling the boat to whatever shop was capable of doing so. Maybe I'll call ICOM and discuss what's happening and go from there. Thanks again. |

Timothy: We use Icom's at the Harbor Patrol, and we bring them to Radio Shack in Morro Bay. They don't work on them there, they just get them taken care of through Icom. I think that there is still a radio guy down in Santa Maria that operates on radios, but I have no idea who he is. Ask Bill or Woody at the MB Radio Shack, they'll know. Eric |

Jim, I think that would be using a boat to harass the sea lions. The rangers at cachuma use this tactic when they have a trout plant ,but for all of the cormorants, pelicans, herons and every other bird that shows up for an easy meal. Happy New year to all, looking forward to salmon season need a boat/fishing fix. |

This came off the FG&G website. Q. Can private individuals do anything to prevent sea lions from invading and fouling our docks and boats? A. All marine mammals are protected and managed by the federal government, under the stewardship of the National Marine Fisheries Service (the State has no jurisdiction). The 1994 Amendments to the Marine Mammal Protection Act gave property owners and government officials the authority to protect private and public property by deterring sea lions, provided the acts do not result in serious injury or death to the animal. Recreational fishermen can deter sea lions from damaging their gear and catch, again provided that the acts of deterrence do not result in serious injury or death to the animal. Methods may involve preventing access, acoustic devices, seal bombs, boat hazing, spraying with water, or lightly prodding. One cannot break skin, or direct an act at the head or eyes of the sea lion, or direct acts at seal lions that are hauled out on rocks or beaches. Firearms, crossbows, spearguns, harpoons, javelins, arrows, spears, or other similar devices are prohibited. Relocating sea lions or offering them tainted fish or other consumables is also prohibited. Q |

If you get too bored here is an excellent site on Albacore. It will probably take a couple of hours to go through all of it. One thing I found especially insteresting was the graph on the amount of albacore caught and how they were caught. The recreational take is totally insignifcant and yet we hear talk of limits on recreational take. http://swfsc.noaa.gov/textblock.aspx?Division=FRD&ParentMenuId=139&id= 1194 |

Stay tuned to this page for some updates from CCFCC periodically regarding Fish & Game issues we are actively involved with. CCFCC has been working behind the scenes for better science and more fishing opportunities. The political environment is very challenging for fishermen and we need to stick together and not give up resistance to the anti fishing groups. Happy New Year to all my friends. Bob Hather |

FYI; 12:22/07. RETURN OF CALIFORNIA ABALONE FISHERY ON THE HORIZON. After abalone harvests peaked at 5.4 million pounds landed in 1957, the California abalone population rapidly declined, hitting a record low of only 110,000 pounds landed in 1997. Since then abalone harvesting south of the Golden Gate Bridge has been prohibited for all abalone species -- red, pink, green, black and white. Scientists believe that the extremely reduced population size was a product of many factors ranging from overfishing to introduced disease and parasites. However, recent monitoring around San Miguel Island, CA discovered a healthy population of red abalone in some areas. Therefore, the California Department of Fish and Game (DFG) began working to develop management options if the island were reopened to an abalone fishery. John Ugoretz, a biologist with the DFG, expressed his excitement to “thoroughly consider a fishery prior to its opening.” The DFG is basing the potential management plan on scientific evidence and is incorporating local stakeholders in the planning process. The potential to open a new fishery, under strict pre-planned management, is a bit of good news following the struggles of many other California fisheries at the moment. |

I noticed that the Big 5 store in Santa Maria is stocking the Gulp products. I picked up some Camo Sandworms for $6.49. You cut them in pieces for Perch, so you get a lot of offerings. If they don't have what you want at your store, talk to the Mgr., so he can at least know whats "HOT". Perhaps he will order some for your store? Tim |
