Will the PSL sling start opening early enough to make it worth using or will the banker's hours apply this year again forcing our usual launch from MB? |

Great point Robb. There have to be some sweet spots that havn't been found. Maybe this protection, albeit a pain in the arse right now, will challenge us as fishermen even more! I mean, we know where we CAN catch fish.... let's go prove we can do it in all the other places to!- |

i'm with marti. no point in breaking the law. the thing is, you need to turn this adversity around to your advantage and quit whining about it.use your fishing instincts. use your experience to find new stones to fish. work on reading the water, bait signs, and using your sonar to find new spots. what's unforseen? maybe in a few years the spillover from the fish inside the reserves will create an even better place to fish, just on the edge of the reserves. this is something that's already happened in other places. |

I miss the good old days when the beach was open to all, the clams were thick and you could drive from the pismo pier all the way down to the top of devils slide. You could fish whenever you wanted and the limits were large enough to feed the family for more than one night....OOh, those were the days.. |

Its only a job for the game warden writing the tickets, they don't care if you think you are making a point, or if its one person or fifty in the no fish zone. If you defy the law just to make a point, you are only filling their pockets.Just like no dogs on Estero Beach, when that went into effect alot of people just said "go ahead write me up" after several $120.00 tickets were written the crowd thinned out fast. It will be fun to watch though! |

Harrell: Yes, I knew the weather was going to be "snotty" ... and it was indeed. We got blown off the water today about 11:30. But you know the old saying: A bad day fishing is better than any day at work ... or contemplating the mess our Commissioners have us in. And by the way ... we did land a nice 25 pounder. He was a real brute ... would not come to the boat. Very fortunate that our 20 minute battle did not occur near any fur-balls ... And by the way ... that new launch ramp and parking lot at Moss Landing ... is GREAT! Does cost $12 to launch and park though. Mel |

Carl in regards to what you said about the MLPAs arriving in So.Cal.- I have for a long time believed that the reason we,in the central area have been targeted by unfair regs is that we don't have the political clout to fight the powers that be.(Hypotheticaly)If all of the people in our MLPA zone sent a letter to the governor lets say we got 5000 signatures, how does that number measure up the amount of votes needed to be elected as oposed to say 50,000 they might send out in Orange County these numbers aren't correct, but in real time I'm curious to see how far they can go when they hit the motherlode of voters-just a wild guess but I bet we got the worst of it. |

All I found this on Allcoast it was posted by Freddie Holland with the CFC and RFA. You may have to cut and paste the link. This is by far the best synopsis I found. The attach doc is 9 pages but once you start reading you won't want to stop. I highly recommend reading this, I normally don't read anything with out pictures but this was very enlighting and riviting. Today, Friday the 13th, 2007, the F&G Commission passed on 4-0 vote the adoption of the Central Coast MPA network. A few bones that could have been thrown to recreational and commercial fishers by moving a few boundary lines to provide safe, near port access to edges of key hardbottom areas were rejected. This culminates the first phase of one of the most corrupt public administrative processes, with participation of compromised marine scientists, concerning public access that I have witnessed, even surpassing what happened during the Channel Island National Marine Sanctuary reserve (CIMNS) process. This MLPA dog and pony act now is moving to the North Central Coast and will arrive in Southern California within the next few years. Fortunately, we have a legal letter that the California Fisheries Coalition, a coalition of rec and commercial groups, commissioned and paid for. It was recently delivered to the F&G Commission before today’s vote. As a former academic and someone who has written parts of textbooks, a task that requires synthesizing and distilling into a coherent whole a large amount of material, I can state this legal letter is an outstanding chronological analysis of what happened during the Central Coast MLPA process, the corruption of the process, the selective and theoretical use of the “best available” science, the rejection of recreational and commercial stakeholder input, etc., etc., etc. Now that this document exists, all interested rec fishers can understand what happened, and why, without those of us in the struggle to preserve our right to fish responsibly and under progressive fishery management having to explain and analyze over and over. It may, I say may, form the basis of future legal action. It is only 9 pages long and riveting reading. Anyone who reads it will be up to speed on a two-year long and disappointing process, and will be prepared to make judgments on whether, or how, they want to participate, defend, and FUND for a fair shake when the MLPA process arrives in Southern California. I stand in awe of the lawyer who put this legal letter together on short notice. Please read it! http://www.cafisheriescoalition.org/docs/CFC-Legal_Stmt_MLPA_11Apr07.p df |

I would fish the areas that will be closed exclusivly until the closures take affect, and save the other areas for later. It would be nice to see a good count of boats up till the time that happens. Best of luck to all. |

Friends: I am not going to make any further comments on the MLPA (after this one). My comments are stated pretty clearly below. Carl Moore ... thank you for speaking up for the CCFCC. As John Usilton said: THE FIX WAS IN. In truth, the fix has been in since the very beginning. We were all naive to think that there was going to be any fairness in this process. Nuff said. I want to go back to my list of fine people who helped with the CCFCC fundraiser dinner. As I expected, I left out a lot of people who worked hard on the event. Thank you to Dan Pease and Jerry Hoefer for helping set up, bar-tend and clean-up ... Thanks. Thank you to Ardith Davis for her help. Thank you to Michelle Rowley for helping her mom get all the desserts ready for our consumption. I was lucky enough to end up with an extra cherry pie .... I am eating a piece right now. Last comment on MLPA. Carl Moore, you are right. The Commission is to blame. They had the POWER to stand up for what is right ...and they abdicated ... and decided to be lackeys of the Governor and the anti-fishing environmental groups. Mel |

FYI; Acording to the daily rag the trib , article on a6 regarding OUR California sea lions WASHINGTON STATE , OREGON AND IDAHO have decided to do something about the FUR BALLS , there going to KILL them, I got a plan we dress the DFG commissoners, GREENPEACE FOLKS, AND OTHERS THAT MATCH THE DESCRIPTION in fur and throw them in the river at the bonneville dam , problem solved. On a serious side its about time SOMEONE is thinking about doing something about this problem, they could kill 400 a day and not dent the population. They are sure not an endangered species anymore, they eat more fish than we could ever catch , I know its a waste of time and high blood pressure to even ponder on these things but it makes me feel better anyway, I guess ill just go take out my rage on the SURF PERCH for now. If anyone is looking for the salt water gulp products , go to pismo wall mart , they have every gulp product on hand and good prices ,. My two cents worth. Blackie/Sr |

Re: MLPA The issue is far from over. This is a battle that likely will not have an end. Either get & stay involved or watch recreational Saltwater fishing get regulated right out of existence. To those that may think "never happen" take a close look at what's happening right now. Government has already taken away HUGE chunks of our recreational freedom. Add up the Rockfish Conservation Area, restricted seasons, reduced bag limits and the MLPA and see what you get. Compare that to ten years ago. Never happen? They are almost done! Cloud out |
