Chua, nice additions! by the way people, OTG means On The Ground - basically states that you lay your sinker or lure on the ground behind the rod. the side cast builds distance because its the easiest way to load the rod, although the disadvantage is that if you dont release the line properly, your lure/sinker could end up going sideways and not straight out. the pendulum swing is a true distance casting tecnique. it is HARD to learn and is very effective with conventional tackle (could be done with spinning tackel as well) it increases your distance by around 15-30% (in some instances 50% or more!) depending on your execution. this is the cast that tournament distance casters use and some even cast as far as 700 feet...easy! it goes by one of the laws of physics - an already accelerating body can easily be further accelerated faster than a body that is at rest - or something like that. |

FOLKS! SOME INFO FOR ALL SURF/LURES CASTERS WITH SURF RODS. ADDING ON TO QUOTES FROM KITSTER: when the line travels off the spool lip, it then hits your guides (the line travels in a spiral while getting off the spool) friction affects this again. with a limp line, it spirals less and hits less surface area. ONE WAY TO EFFECTIVE REDUCE FRICTION AND HEAT TRANSFER IS TO HAVE SIC GUIDES THAT INCREASE CAST DISTANCE BY ENSURING LINE GLIDES THRU THE GUIDES WITH MINIMUM FRICTIONAL CONTACT. SECOND, ENSURE YOUR LINES DO NOT SLAP ON THE ROD, YOU WILL HEAR THE PUNISHING SLAPS WHEN IT TRY TO SQUEEZE THRU THE STRIPPER GUIDE, WITH THE SPOOL LINES TRAVELLING FASTER THAN THE OUTGOING, HAMPER BY THE BOTTLE NECK STRIPPER, THEREFORE, DISTANCE BETWEEN THE REEL AND GUIDE IS ONE CONSIDERATION, SPOOL SIZE OF THE REEL IS ANOTHER, THE BIGGER THE SPINNING SPOOL THE BIGGER THE ARC, AS IT UNFOLDS ON ITS WAY OUT. THE SAME PROBLEM MIGHT HAPPEN. LOOK OUT FOR THE SLAPPING SOUND ON YOUR NEXT CAST. SLAPPING REDUCES DISTANCE. ALL YOUR ENERGY REDUCED BY FRICTION ALONG THE WAY. SERVICE YOUR REELS BALL BEARINGS FOR MULTIPLIER, IF THEY ARE NOT ENCASED BEARINGS. LUBE OIL SHOULD SUFFICE, UNLESS YOU ARE A TACKLE JUNKIE. after all of this of course comes your skill, your timing, your swing, how you load your rod...etc. EMPLOY OTG, PENDULUM OR SIDE CAST TO YOUR STYLE ONE OF THESE METHODS WILL CERTAINLY SUIT...DIFFERENT FOLKS DIFFERENT STROKES! in short its not just a matter of changing your lines, thats just the first part. in the end of it, its still how much you practice with your BALANCED GEAR to realize the distance potential of your equiptment. THIS INCLUDES YOUR STYLE OF CASTING, PHYSICAL STRENGTH, CORRECT ROD AND REEL CONFIGURATION, USE OF MULTIPILIER, SHOCK LEADER, USE OF CORRECT KNOTS, CORRECT WEIGHT TO BLANK CONFIGURATION, EX-FAST TAPER, ALIGNED BACKBONE, ETC...WITH ALL THESE CONSIDERATIONS, THOUGH SMALL WILL HAVE AN IMPACT TO YOUR CASTING DISTANCE IF YOU ARE CRITICAL. thats why two peopple get different distances even if they use the same line, rod, reel etc. and remember that you are dealing with physics here, its not really how strong you are at swinging your rod, its basically how you load it to make it act like a slingshot, even a "soft" swing can blast a lure out there. HOPFULLY, THE ADDITIONAL INFORMATION IS HELPFUL TO FOLKS CHASING CUDAS IN THE HOT SUMMER. THIS IS NOT A SCIENCE LESSON! BUT A COMBINATION OF SCIENCE, ART AND MOST IMPORTANTLY LUCK! CHEERS |

http://seaguar.com/Products_GM.html <----- tippet material. leader material for fly fishing tapered leaders. you cant use this. I'll make a list of monos with thin diameters, but most of what you will see would not be available here in the UAE and woudl cost a lot of $$$$$ USD prices too since you have to order them from the states. |

seaguar lines - the 25 meter spools are not fishing lines, they are leader spools. usually used for light tackle trolling, fly leaders etc. FC has the same specific gravity as water, thats why it seems to dissapear when underwater. Pranab, the diameter of the line is only one of the things that would make you cast far. you guys have to understand that the diameters indicated on the line are average diameters only. this means that one part of the line might be a bit bigger than the rest, or it varies. we do not know for certain if they have given you the thickest or thinnest diameter. FC lines are stiff by the way so they arent that managable while on the reel. there are some soft FCs out there, problem is, they arent really pure FCs and rather a mix of FC and copolymer. Limpness of the line should be one of the things you need to look into. there are lines out there specificly made for spinning reels and rods, these are very soft and have less "memory" which means they straighten out faster they dont "coil up" or coil up way less than ordinary lines- if most of you havent noticed, when your line goes off your spool, it has to fight its way up the lip of your spool, friction affects this which slows the acceleration of your line and ultimately will affect its velocity and distance. top of the line spinning reels have titanium coated lips to help curb friction. when the line travels off the spool lip, it then hits your guides (the line travels in a spiral while getting off the spool) friction affects this again. with a limp line, it spirals less and hits less surface area. after all of this of course comes your skill, your timing, your swing, how you load your rod...etc. in short its not just a matter of changing your lines, thats just the first part. in the end of it, its still how much you practice with your BALANCED GEAR to realize the distance potential of your equiptment. thats why two peopple get different distances even if they use the same line, rod, reel etc. and remember that you are dealing with physics here, its not really how strong you are at swinging your rod, its basically how you load it to make it act like a slingshot, even a "soft" swing can blast a lure out there. hope this helps. see you in the surf! HI Pranab, if you are referring to fluorocarbon lines, then I would say that it is quite possible that Seaguar manufactures the strongest one (thats what they say in their advertisement). Regarding the strongest line available, I'm not too sure. anyway, the line I was telling you about is a Japanese fishing line, Mikano or Minano or mkano (something like that), not really sure. But it is 0.30mm & 9.2kg strength (20.3lb). It has a picture of a dinosaur on it. |

hi guys , Yeserday night me and dada planned todays morning fishing . As planned we met at the surf at 5.30 . We dragged before the timings because we brain stormed that as the fishes are moving to the outer ridges with the heat why dont we plan to go little early when the water is still cooler and may be we manage to catch a few as the season fades away . When we reachd there there was only one philipino fisherman who is just learning fishing . I saw her wife sitting on the rocks with a spare rod . I was curious to see his lure as it seemed really big for his rod . Unaable to quench my curiosity i asked him can i have a look at the lure . ohh god it was about 100 gms on a lower class rod. But not to disappoint him ( ray ) that he should be careful to cast it . And before i can turn my head this guy lost his whole lure with a huge splash . Any way i lend him a new proper weight lure and dada also showd him how to cast properly . The intersting part came later . As we were reeling in the barracudas we got a big one and was excited with the fight which was quite unusual for a barracuda . Because normally they dont fight tht much . Gess what when we got it at shore this is what was left . A huge king fish bite which dismembered the barracuada . Please see the pic along with this from the link . The likes of (m)Angler13 have an insatiable hunger and voracious appetite when it comes to ego.Cant help it,can he,coz that's his style of living!??????????! Perhaps he has a reason to shut his gob ( thanks Kit) or maybe help around if he wishes to.Either way he's welcome.Nothing to lose nothing to gain. hi , Today morning i was at the sea side . It was really nice to see the beach absolutely emtpty . I wish it remained like that without so many people falling on top of another to cast their lines . It seemed unlikely to be a dubai beach . Water was very very calm ideal for fishing . I dont know how many times i casted in the crystal water . I caught 3 barracdas . Medium size . No big ones although one big one followed the lure and i can see its brownish excited skin when it was chasing my lure . I purposely used 1 hook lure to make the fishing exciting . It some how seemed unfair to me when i was fishing with rapala lures with two treble hooks . Yes i did miss a couple of strikes but then the excitement and challange was more to hook them with thin line and one hook . I used a popper also today for the first time in my life . But i had a feeling for barracuda lures swimming a little below is perfect rather than poppers . Can any one advise me can there be a fishing line with 0.20 mm thickness with 14 lb test . If any one knows the brand let me know pls regards 0506789546 |

Hi Jess, not really sure how the others feel about Saturdays fishing trip, but I did have a decent day. There might have been @ 15 odd fishermen & anglers(I stress on the word Fishermen) at Jumeirah in the morning. I know that Kit did catch @ 6 Barracuda & I caught 6 myself. Regarding the others I didnt see any one else catch even a single cudda. I heard that one someone else might have caught 1 or 2, & pranab had quite a few misses. Other than that, no one got any. I did lose half a dozen besides landing 6. Now this is for some people who disregard fishermen keeping the catch.........lol I also heard that someone with a number for a name (hidden identity) did come to watch us fish. It was really funny when I heard that 'NUMBER' nammed person was trying to play big daddy watching our every action. I did keep 3 cuddas & release 3. I kept 2 for myself & gave one to Heber. I know that some disagree about giving fish to others, but heck, if I had a good day & someone else didnt, I dont have a problem sharing my catch. Besides, a couple of cudas caught on line aint as bad as dragging a net & catching hundreds of them. My catch was only due to the knowledge that I gained from my friends, Kit, pranab & the other dozens of people on another angling site, who are very open minded, have decades some 25 + years & others 50+ years of fishing experience who are ever willing to suggest points to you & share their vast knowledge base. The crucial points that made a difference was understanding the water conditions, the temperature, the line, the type of lure (colour, swimming depth etc) & that made a difference. Btw, dont worry about some people wanting to know how smart we are....it dosent really matter. Besides its how we adapt to different situations & how fast we learn that ultimately counts. I know that I am not smart, or atleast I dont fit in that category. I am way above that, I'd say I'm brilliant...lol. Its all about how we see ourselves. I suppose you too, besides many others come in the same category. so lets move ahead & let the smart people catch up with us, 'Briliant Guys'....... :o) Warm regards, Keyur Tight Lines & Screaming Reels. |

First of all Welcome Amir, this forum is all about a common goal, 'FISHING'. Its no big deal if you are a fresher or someone with a lot of experience. Some people here have a lot of experience & boast of a lot of knowledge, while others have only just started. Some have fished deep sea, some from the coast, others in rivers & lakes & some in mountan streams. The fishing knowledge base is vast & it is upto us how we tap this resourse. Some may use phrases used in the west, while I might use phrases like 'Ragi' is is quite common (famous) where I come from, but unheard of in other parts of the world. We just have to share our knowledge with each other & learn what we can gather from others. The best part is that I have learned a lot of new things here & I'm sure many others here have learned a lot too. Amir, the rod & line is very important, but it is more important to understand the basics of the rod, reel & line. I am just getting mine right (big thanks to Kit) & it surely helped me today. I would suggest that you pick up a 0.30 line, a decent reel(no need for a big one). A medium-light action rod, which can be used to fish in the creek or off the surf & some decent lures. Rapala is a brand name & I would strongly suggest that you ask around the place for something that you could adapt to your style of fishing, based on where you are fishing & what you intend on catching. As per me, I would prefer 'Yo-Zuri' lures, although I use different brands of lures. Lures vary from floaters, poppers (break the surface of the water), sinkers etc. Different lures have a different action & the lip of the lure plays a major part on the swimming depth of the lure. AED 200.00 would be quite good to start of a basic kit & you can always improve once you feel the need to go ahead. Kit (person) would be able to give you some very valuable advise on picking a rod, line, reel, lures etc. Talk to him before you decide what to buy. Pranab is the best guy to take you a round & can definately get you a good deal on your purchases. Not to forget that he is a guy who will 'NEVER' say no to anyone who needs any help or assistance. You are also free to talk to me anytime you want. Pranab, heber, iftekhar, kit all have my contact no. HI Jamie, I did try going around the shops in Deira & was unable to get any surface poppers. It could be available, but I didnt find any. |

As I am off from work on Thursdays & Fridays, therefore, once I get my fishing license, you would be the first person who I would get in touch with. Thanks for the offer to take me with you so that I could get the fising equippment and surely I would require your guidance while purchasing the equiptment. rgds |

Hi Pranab. I am also interested in fishing. I used to do some sea bottom fishing back in Pakistan but that was with a simple line, some hooks, weights and used shrimps as baits. That should make it clear that I am a biginner in fishing and have not used a fishing rod so far. I have been in Dubai for the last 3 months only. I have not yet got my driving license. Once I get that then I would start fishing. In this forum I have read the valuable information on how to get the fishing license and in the coming few weeks I would also apply for one. I needed some help with respect to use a fishing rod. Where can I get a fising rod with the neccessary accessories. I would appreciate your help in respect to the following questions. 1- Of what I have seen is that ruppalas are used for trawlling and no bait is attached to them. Would ruppalas be used for shore fishing as well and would bait be attached to them? 2- Is a one piece fishing rod better or the one that is actually in two or three pieces which can be dismantled. 3- Do I get a cheap rod as I would be a begginner or else should get a professional fishing rod. 4- What would be the ideal size or weight of the fishing line for me (a begginer) and what would be the estimated cost of the fishing rod, line, etc. am912 |

hi guys , I watched a couple of things today while fishing . Due to hot weather the stones and the land heats up and the oxygen level is evapourating from near the coast line . Hence the fishes are moving from the inner ridge to the outer ridge . So inorder to reach them u must cast longer . I practiced that i did catch fish tht way , when most of the others were not getting it . So my advice to all my friends out there pls go for long casts . regards |

Angler13, I know I asked everyone to ignore you, but heres something to just shut you up. 1. whats a blue angel? whats it second to and what is it's best position? The Blue Angel is a sprocket, a trolling lure made in australia and made famous by its maker, Peter Pakula...second only to the Lumo Sprocket, which is the flagship of the lure line, PAKULA lures. Both work best in the long rigger position. The Lumo sprocket accounts for nearly 50% of the tournament wins and is one of the top 10 best marlin lures of the world. 2. what do you mean by sunset in fishing terms and what is its opposite? Sunset refers to the position of a lever when you lock the spool up, an agressive fighting technique often used for big marlin and tuna. often used as a last ditch effort in turning the fish. its oposite is called freespool. 3. what is a shotgun and what is its opposite? Shotgun is a position of the fifth lure of a standard 5 lure pattern, its the one thats way out where there is no more wake or engine wash. There is no oposite?!...the closest thing would be the shortest lure on the spread (is that what you mean?) which is the short corner. 4. where do you buy a candybar? Do you mean a Candybar jig? you can't buy them anymore, they were taken over by Tady. 5. what is a dice? A Dice or a Dice Pattern? - The Dice trolling pattern is an old school pattern wherein the corner lines and the rigger lines are of the same length, usually done with bait, later on, skippers discovered that a staggered pattern works better... Now, do I need to send you my resume? Just drop it dude...its seriously getting old! ====================================================================== ============================ Hope to meet more of you guys later!!! This morning should give us some nice fishing. I'm as excited as a bat in the night...LOL See you in the Surf, K!T |

I will shut my trap and be a by-stander if someone here could answer some questions...let's see how smart you people are. 1. whats a blue angel? whats it second to and what is it's best position? 2. what do you mean by sunset in fishing terms and what is its opposite? 3. what is a shotgun and what is its opposite? 4. where do you buy a candybar? 5. what is a dice? so the game begins. go ahead and search for it in the net, i would be amused if someone in this forum could answer it...would mean that you know what you're talking about and I might, I just might shut up. these are all fishing terms and hey, should tell you a lot about just how much i have in my head...anybody in here taking a bite? |

Hi Friends, Today, indeed i had a good experience with Pranab. We really had a challenging time with his 5lb line. Bravo Pranab, and thanks for sharing your ideas. We started at 3 in the morning, checked Maktoom bridge for any of our forum friends then we dashed to Jum. where he explained to me various types of Rafalas and when-where to use them etc etc. It was interesting topic, n then at 6.30 he had his first barracuda on 1st go. followed by many more. Others were not as lucky as Pranab except Omar who managed to catch one barracuda. There was another elderly guy - Mr.Dada, he has very long exp. Altogether it was wonderful and challenging day for us. Hope you guys have a wonderful weekend. Rgs. Ronald. |

hi guys , today hv been to the sea side along with ronald our newest member . I tried angler 13 idea and tried with a 5 lbs line to catch barracudas . And yes i did catch 4 of them . One i kept for my friend who is a chef at welcare hospital . Rest was released . The line was so thin first time when i tried to cast my yazuri rapala it broke in between . But then i changed to a new silver minnow which is much lighter and the casts were pretty longer . Only thing i had to keep the drag loose as i realised big baracuda strikes i hv to survive without breaking the line . And once that was taken care of it was easy to pull them out . Any ways thanks angler 13 for giving me the idea and special thanks to kit who vouched about tht facts that very thin lines can pull bigger fishes . Really in the begening i also did not belive until i tried it out today. Thanks every one for making this forum a sucess . I wish a few more guys showed interst to go for the competetion . For your information i wont take part in the competetion but its my dream to organise such an even for my angler buddies . regards 0506789546 |

Hey (m)Angler13!so how r u buddy? You're one helluva guy!hmmm........so you were rated like what,62?????????Great!Congrats man! They(whoever it was that rated you)did it good to agree with you that you are an elite barbarian!Hip,hip hooray! So,you're like from the old school of barbarians where it's all yell and bellow"bloody murder" to get ur point across to your worthy opponents???????Numskull, ur the one with a thick skull pal coz it takes that much time to get ur thoughts and ideas to get across to others.(m)angler13!Whopeee I love this name.So you are christened (m)Angler13 now on coz all you do is (m)Angle,(m)Angle and more (m)Angle people. So you're from the old class of elite barbarians,Gr8!You know what each rating stands for-for starters-barbarian,insensitive,dimented,numskull,etc,etc,etc.whoa,62 different filthy virtues of yours!Like Keyur said before, start treating your own species right first man before you think of a basket load of fish!Things will be fine.Pal,your nerves are frayed!Attend to them first before you dump obscenities on fellow members! Jess my fren, don't you take to heart what our dear (m)Angler13 tells or YELLS!Actually he wasn't complementing any of us here on the forum-he was just complementing his gr8 self with those very words he used(coz he worded it that way intentionally for his own benefit)-the only thing he's absolutely good at! Buddy, while you and I are, very and truly, busy 'pitch-fork-ing' each other here in the forum and I'm (m)Angling you and you are (m)Angling the rest of the forum thru your posts, the genuine anglers are out there having a gr8 time and loads of fun learning new things and sharing experiences with each other and organising gr8 stuff-for eg:Pranab. And FYI quite a lot of other guys other than Pranab and one other guy as you put it,are having fun catching and releasing fish. They've been gentlemen enough and men enough to admit their mistakes and carry on while you're still out here, instead of the blue waters, busy (m)Angling people! They're the gutsy ones, you're the sissy here busy hammering people even after they've changed! What are you doin?knocking your skull against a wall, quit before it does you more damage pal!If you can't share your knowledge, please, wear a helmet and a breast plate and hold a torch over your cranium and walk all around Dubai's beaches and creek and waterfronts and under the bridges so your intelligence won't spill out and people can see the "intellect" walking around to enlighten mankind! What will the caption read???????"LOOK YE ,LOOK YE MANKIND AND LEARN FROM ME YOU MORTALS.I'M FULL OF KNOWLEDGE I FEAR WILL SPILL FROM THE RECESSES OF MY CRANIAL CAVITY (LEST IT FALL AND MAKE THEE KNOWLEDGABLE TOO)" Intellectuals like you do more harm than good to human kind. You are an insult to our species you high minded nitwit! |

Hi Kit, it was nice meeting you last weekend in Jumeirah & at that point, I realised how much more I could learn. Those few mins with you taught me something new & being with you guys like you just helps me grow. Learning & education is life long & if anyone thinks that he knows enough, knows nothing. The mind is just like a parachute (others are CH*T$), it works only when its open. Dudes, Angler 13, I'm sure that you do know a lot, so why not just stop the slander & share some of your knowledge with the people around. The more you share, the more you learn. Especially since people say that they are willing to learn, give it a shot dude, one chance is all we ask. Hopefully things will change for the better. If they dont, what the heck, you tried. Ultimately its the goal that you have towards conservation, if it makes a difference to someone, heck, your successful. Lets keep our egos aside, I know that a lot of egos are bruised. Remember in life, pride is always our downfall, at the same time if we do not have any pride, we do not have anything. So lets salvage whatever pride we have left, pick ourselves up & dust ourselves & move on. What have happened & what has been said is done & over with. Its time to set sail & move on. The journey has only just begun. Tight lines & screaming reels |
