Fished PSL today. I had 4 of my work crew onboard, 2 ocean fishing newbies. Decided to play along with the launches Bankers Hours so we didn't show till about 7:30. No line-up of boats on the crane but a full parking lot. They told us be in by 11:00 or wait till after 2:00.

Ran thru the early wind and chop up to Pecho in 160' and fished nothing but artificials. The wind layed down a bit for us. Headed for the barn at 10:00 with over 30 fish onboard and one sick first time crew member. Plenty of fish for all of us. 28 Reds, 10 went over 6#. A few decent sized Gophers, one Blue, and a couple Lings but only one legal. Back at the house before 11 to start the cleaning.

Fun morning on the water!

Fished out of MB this morning. We started trolling for salmon at 7:00, right outside in 90ft. We dragged a green croc and an apex all the way out to 289ft and saw nothing. At 8:30 we ran to the north end of cayucos for a dozen nice reds and a checklehead, plus a bunch of 20" lings. The wind got bad at 10:00 so I ran to Whale Rock and dropped the salmon gear in 118ft.We finally found a huge baitball(half an acre) in 128 ft at the north end of Morro Bay and started catching short salmon..We did not get a legal but had some fast action for (five) 16"-18" baby kings for half an hour of trolling.I had to pick up the kids at 11:30 or would have stuck that spot out all day.It was really "fishy" and just 5 minues north of the rock, past the red buoy..I'll be right back in that spot on Wed. if the wind cooperates jeff

Fished PSL this morning with Pablo on Ceviche. Got a sweet scoop of 5-7" dines from Deke and headed up to the Pea Patch. It was snotty early, layed down for a few hours and then started howling at 10:30 a.m. Chased us off the water at 11...in fact barely got the boat out of the water with all the sand. That is ridiculous.
Anyhow, slow hali fishing, but we did manage a keeper ling, 2 cabs, a nice red, and several bolina. Not sure if we even had a hali on today. Did see one 15# fish weighed in that was caught in the Pea Patch. So they are in!
Go get 'em!
lat,
steve

harrell- we've been up in moss a few times this year and we've been getting by paying 12 dollars when we are there the night before. the info on the parking pay box is vague at best. it has a fee for 24 hour parking then a park and launch fee for 12.
what is surprising about that parking lot is how did they get a permit to pave over an estuary and build a new ramp?
none the less, a nice place to fish out of. even a 4am wake up call with the temp lighting!

Yeah, Moss is now a 1st rate Launch and parking facility except for the $30 overnight fee. That seems a little steep.
Here, I think our Harbor Commission is really letting the small boat people down ! Can't believe this sanding problem has gone on for years and no end in sight.Every other harbor in the country gets cleaned out when it needs it.

Harrel I'd like to know how we can get some of the love that Moss Landing got....that place is AWESOME now. What an upgrade, seen it?

Yep its getting very frustrating not being able to launch. Seems to me we arent getting a fair shake, but that seems to be the standard lately. No political clout, no $$$, SOL. Looks like lots of us will have to burn burn a lot more fossil fuel going to MB, SB and Moss--especially if a good tuna season pops open. Thats not to mention the associated other $$$ that will go outside the local economy. Cloud out

Just off phone with Mitch/Patriot Sportfishing

Deke/Mello Boy has live bait--medium sardines in the receivers now

Now that might work just great for an early hali season.

Bob--thanks, now thats a fish report.

Actually I was looking for more info on where the hali bite was happening, at least a general area. Doesn't really matter now my boat is in the shop with a steering (hydraulic)issue, and wont be done in time for this weekend so looks like yard duty.

For the guys looking for diesel fuel system service, I would suggest contacting Harold Davis/Davis Boats in Paso Robles. Cloud out

Re: Mechanic in Ventura.
I would recommend Gregg Cooper at Channel Islands marine in Santa Barbara. He works on all the urchin boats (radons) which are mostly diesels with outdrives now. He's a mercruiser dealer, but I think he works on volvos too.

Gotta love that self filling fuel tank, Matt. Hope you get that worked out soon. It looks like both you and Bob have the magic bait and technique that's been working for us for a few years now. Amazing how the Reds and Lings go ape on it!

I'm hoping for a run tomorrow out of PSL if I can get my schedule cleared.

Fished two days out of MB tues/weds. Ran straight to the light house tues with flat calm weather and not a hint of fog. fished 110 feet of water with swim baits for limits of nice reds and three legal lings to 14 lbs. Spent the night on the hook in san simeon bay. Fished around san simeon and cambria on weds, slower fishing and thick fog in the morning. didn't want to make the run back to the light house since there was an issue with my fuel monitoring systems on the boat. Left MB with 66% fuel and got to light house with 81%. ruled out water intrusion in the fuel tank. Most likely the genious who fixed the Engine computer wired the fuel sensor into the system incorrectly. We ended the trip with 91% fuel. Not fun wondering if you have enough fuel on board to make it back home. Someone in the past recommended a Volvo Diesel mechanic in Ventura area, forgot who it was and where. Can someone advise, seems like it might have been pacific marine service????? Definately not taking it back to Costa Mesa to let it sit in the yard for two months and then have the problem not fixed. Was nice to get back on the water.

Cloud, we fished Hazard Canyon in 170 ft of water using 4 oz leadheads with 7" fish trap tails. In two hours we caught 4 legal lings and 11 6-7 lb reds. No other species caught, no bait balls seen, no birds or other life evident. Most our fish were caught between 10 and twenty feet off the bottom. 30 pound spectra really helps. We fished for salmon for one hour for nothing.

Left MB @ 6am today, Fog till noon, headed to Cambria, lost our GPS half way there with all our waypoints, thank god for our backup hand held and radar. 1 keeper ling and 5 reds a few browns, not 1 blue all day. Fishing not good, but mostly our fault with no GPS and no land visible. Will try again next week. Water like glass all day.

Fished out of Leffingwell Tue. for huge lings and 5-7 Lb reds in 30-80 ft of water. Lots of bait in the water. The blues, Johnny's, Blacks, birds & seals all working the areas heavily. Beautiful day on the water ! Most fish came on Gulp chovies. But 1/2 oz lead-head swim-baits worked very well also. Tight lines everyone !

I fished out of Morro Bay on Monday. Dream weather conditions. I immediately hooked and landed a 22 lb. King in 190 feet of water just northwest of the Rock. I was using a pearl Kroc behind a chrome dodger 100 feet down. In the shallower water (70 ft.)there was a lot of large bait, probably sardines, being pushed up by sea lions. We should be having some good salmon fishing real soon..

Greetings,
Fished PSL in the skiff today. Launched at 6:30 no problem....off the pier:-) Headed out to the redlight and began trolling up hill in 120' of water. Caught a 25" salmon at 7:15...130' of water, 80' OTW, using a red hot spot and purple haze hoochie. Did a u-turn and had another fish on 10 minutes later...netted a small 21" fish that I released (is it 22" or 20" minimum size?). Thought I had found the G-spot, but no more knockdowns. No bait in sight, so headed up off the lighthouse where I could see some commercials working. Finally found bait in 250', but no takers. There was tons of life out there...humback whales, birds and a bunch of sea lions. That is probably the place to be, but there are apparently a few fish around the Red Light.
Ocean was very nice today...T-shirt weather until noon:-)
best fishes,
steve

Hugh
I've repowered mine a couple of times with new longblocks. Check manifolds and if they have some time on them get new ones. Fix the gasket leak at a minimum. New marine long blocks can be purchased for $1100 - $2200. Typically have one year warranty. Shipping varies. This place is typical for engine replacement and quite reasonable.

wind speed this morning at sam martin. o. fishing today and tomorrow before the wind comes up again thursday. lots of bait in the bay for those of you who have throw nets. tossed the net three times yesterday for way to much bait, all smelt. allso on the way towards china cove say lots of bait visual and on the meter with clean water on the way out and on the return the water looked brown allmost like a possible red tide affect. water temp was 48.8 to a max of 51(cold) hopefully it will srart to warm up.

Hugh, It`s not normal for engines to get water in them. The key to keep it from reocuring is to find out what happened to cause the problems your having now.
Did it it get hot enough to cause problems?
My guess is that you have either a heat exchanger issue or most likely a manifold- riser problem most likely riser's'
If the risers leak it will let water into the exaust manififod whitch will by design allow water to enter the cylinders and cause the problem that your describing.
Anyhow best of luck

Matt...
There's several boats launching out of Cambria. I'm sure if you're within 3 mi. of the shoreline you'll see a few of us out there. I don't know of any, other than myself, that have communication capabilities. Virge's has been fishing up that way. (John & Michele) So if you get into any problems and need assistance, just give a holler. Especially if you have an overabundance of big reds & lings. Go get'em Killer B's...
