FYI, Fished Fri. & Sat. with my son on "Head Fixr" out of MB went just north of Cambria in 240' limts of nice reds both days ( 1 @ 8.8 lbs), 6 short lings. water was ok - good fri. and like glass all day Sat. ran all the way up @ 22-24 mph. Did real good on Sardines from Giovanni's in MB, real firm and stayed on good. Happy F D to all.

Jeff;
According to the latest forecasts the wind will be coming down monday and tuesday looks almost dead calm with wednesday about the same. Thursday is forecast to blow again so tuesday , wednesday is the window of opportunity. Patriot is sending a boat out monday night so you should have company.
Those numbers are 53nm from Morro and pretty much on the donut. The water there is pretty clean and was 6o degrees a couple of days ago. It will be really great if you find them there, right place riight time !!

Talked to one of the boats in the Gaviota Halibut Trny that he heard radio traffic of albacore being caught in The Arguello Canyon. Numbers given were 34 39.90'N, 121 32.80'W. 5 fish all on troll 20-22 lbs. Off from work on Wed & Thur and planning to run out of M.B. and give a hard look all the way down to Rodriguez Dome and into Santa Barbara. If all else fails we will load up on rockfish and maybe a WSB. Will keep you posted.

Hellow Sheryl,

Still fishing out in front of the rock, and 10 E bouy.
Bought our frozen anchovies in Oregon, this winter on vacation. Just about running out. Virges, has some for $7.95 a tray.
Looking to fish Sunday, going south first, will work 120' to 180' to Spooners, if nothing happens will head north to point Estero, and hope the Choraphyl, is correct.
Once again this season the Cormorants, have been most helpful in finding the fish. Sometimes even seeing just one and checking it out has paid off.
The combination of the birds and fishing the shallowest ever has brought fish to the boat. Hope it keeps working and the information helps out.
The last 10 fish have been plugged with Anchovies. If you are going to run spoons try a blue chrome Krock, or chrome and blue stripe Krock. Something that was shared with us this season when the Chovies are in the blue is supposed to work.

Best regards,
Joseph & Tami Anderton
BBQ.

Joseph, Bbq, Thank-you for the information on the salmon. A couple of quick questions if you don't mind. Are you still fishing out in front of the rock or where? Where do you get your bait up there? We will be going out saturday morning and giving it a try.
Will, also hope to see you out there.
Thanks again, Sheryl

Hello Sheryl,

Ended last week on Friday, with 3 for 6 Salmon, 14 & 15 pounder, in the box, let a 7 pounder go. Lost a hog, too tight on the drag, had to short strikes. A few Silvers, caught in the last week or so. Green flasher bait or straight bait. The hog that got away came on a Tom Mack, plug looked like a Sardine. 140 - 160 feet of water 20 feet down. For the last three weeks all our fish have come on thrity feet and up, very shallow.
Hope this helps.

Best regards,
Joseph Anderton
BBQ.

Last Monday, 38 pounder and an 8 pounder.

Andrew, we had 3 limits by 11, Nothing to speak of only a few good reds to 5 lbs. The rest were bass and blues. The people that are in the know seem to fish deep this time of year. I just dont have any good spots marked for the deeper water. So resort to keeping it simple and hitting the kelp beds. Oh well it seems to be working good enough, I guess I am just lucky I am not trying to make money at it.

Mel;
Here is one for you !

28.35 White Seabass.

a)
b)
c) Limit:
Three, except that only one fish may be taken in waters south of Pt. Conception between March 15 and June 15.

Here is the question; What does between mean ??

Fish and game says it means all of March 15 and all of June 15 so the limit goes to three on June 16.
Is this what it would mean in legal documents ?

The "donut" looks like a donut hole on chart 18700 (Pt. Sur - Pt. Conception). I guess that is where it came from. Don't know of anyone catching LFT there last year and not sure about the year before. In years past the donut/1908 has been real good for father's day albacore. Fingers crossed for this year !!

I checked those numbers on the latest SST and the temp was 58/59 at those numbers. Our area, at and out side the donut, looks good ! Now we need some prospecting weather.

This will be my 1st trip out of Morro, does anyone have any good areas for dinging around kelp beds or rocks that is close in? I only have a 17.5' boat & don't want to be to adventerous my 1st time out. Any special baits or rigging?
What are they catching inside the bay if the water is to big & the kids want to stay in the harbor? How is the fishing for smelt, rays & sharks this time of the year in the harbor?
Thanks sooo much for your help!!

No live bait in Morro Bay.
My buddy Troy caught those fish on a research vessel. He is a pelagic birder with NOAA..here is his email to me yesterday:
"I'm just back from a cruise. Way cool . We zig-zagged between 20 and
80 miles out from Gray Harbor, WA to Cape Blanco. We even got into the
tuna at 43.277 -125.845 on June 9th off Coos Bay. Three in the box,
jumpers around. I don't see any Tuna reports on Ifish, so I'm sure this
news would stir the pot, no? I'm sure the armchair
satellite-oceanographers on Ifish will be frothing with this news."
Anyhow, they covered a lot of water to say the least. He said they saw jumpers, slowed the boat down to 7 knots, dropped out the handlines and hooked up immediately.
Hopefully the tuna don't bypass us again!
Did a field trip with Avila Beach Marine Institute. Had a bunch of 3rd graders from Paso out. They were stoked. Caught a short halibut in the trawl, plus a baby cab and ling. They were so cute:-) Also got a bunch of juvenile dungeness. Didn't catch any bait, but saw Deke get bait...he said it was think between the Poly pier and Avila pier. Surprised we only got 1 short halibut.
lat,
steve

Especially since the water off Oregon is no warmer than ours ! The fish must have been caught in about 59 degree water from all the SST's that I looked at. If the forecasts hold, tuesday is looking good on the outside.

Blackie we went straight to Allios rocks and stayed there until it was time to head for home. The yellowfin fishing was good until we got there then the water started cooling and so did the bite. I think we still had over 100 yellowfin to over 90 pounds. I weighed some of my yellowtail that were over 40 pounds. We fished about 8 hours at cedros for really good yellowtail bite. Charlie

Andrew,
I saw the guy cleaning those big squid, he said he caught them out of ventura. He brought them home because he had so much to clean.
Fished for butts on sunday, got raked once and nothing after that. Went to buchon and slow bite for rock fish out in deep then came in shallow and got limits on smaller fish and two short lings.
Another guy pulled in a 30# butt from in front of cayucos.

Response to Taurus re dredging:

Hole in the breakwater: I've had seevral discussions with the Army Corps about this; absolute non-starter; they will not contemplate putting a hole in the breakwater.

'Slot' in the jetty: have had a preliminary discussion with a marine engineer about this very idea; may be possible. Issues: orientation of pipe to ensure no sand re-entry; diameter of pipe - too narrow, not effective, too wide and water flow slows and deposits sand in the pipe. This idea most definitely has merit, and I will be following up. But I can’t take on any more projects right now.

my two cents worth about dredging at port san luis...

i started fishing out of avila in 1979...since then, the entire bay has sanded in over 6' ..way back then the oldtimers were telling me there was going to be problems because the hole at the start of the breakwater was filled in...it stoped the current from taking away sand and made the current deposit it instead....seems they were right..

the sport launch has the same problem...the configuration only leads to sand deposits...what many of us feel is needed is a culvert pipe from the launch cove - under the point parking- to the bay...if there was too much surge, a simple pancake blind can be dropped or lifted as needed....let mother nature do that work

Charlie, Thanks for the info on Cedros. Did you guys get any further south near Uncle Sam or Thetis? Were there any tuna around? Hope the weather lays down and it is looking like it might be getting better. The SST for the area south of Cedros looks interesting but I guess we will have to see whats home when we come through. Cory, We will be fishing on on 46' Bertram sportfisher which we are part of the crew to help a friend bring back from Cabo. We took the same boat down last November for an epic trip with Marlin crashing everything in the water. Lots of Dorado and Yellowfin also. Thinking about tying a raft together with old shoes and trying to paddle down next year. I figure with three or four guys paddeling we could be near cedros in a few weeks. Beer is neutral bouyant so an endless supply could be towed. who's in....

CHARLIE;
thanks for that info , yea I hope we have good water too , we have 10 days to get the boat back to Ventura , so we aren't really rushed we, did really good last year taking the boat down around uncle Sam's banks , but that was in NOV lots of difference , water lots colder now, we will see, I'm sure we will fill the freezer on the way back with Dora do , they like that 10 knot speed and cedar plugs.
Glad you had a good trip and brought home some fish.
Blackie/Sr

I fished out of Ventura in pursuit of Humboldt Squid. We took a south heading and fished the edge of the trench in about 600' of water. the squid bit at about 100 feet down. The large squid catchers at Virgs worked the best. Some boats were hooked up all day. I sliced about 1/16th in off of both sides and then pounded with a tenderizing hammer. Then flowered and fried them and drizzled a caper butter sauce over them. They really didn't taste as good as the calamari served in restaurants.

Fish PSL again today. Got a scoop of pinner chovies, half of which rolled. Tried to head N again, but turned around after a mile because we were getting beat up. Funky water, NW chop with a SW breeze. Super foggy and cold!!! Fished inside for 5 short halibut.
