Hi Everyone, How are you’ll? Hope you all had a nice weekend. Well, I had been under Maktoom bridge on Friday evening but did not manage to catch any fish. I used squid, shrimps, mackerel and even atta thinking at least I could catch small ones but - no bites. One guy managed to catch 2 small catfish, and other caught variety of small one - his was a good catch within 1 hour of fishing. He was using multiple hooks on one line with shrimps. Even I tried to copy him with multiple hooks & shrimps, but did not get thru. But at exactly at 7.30 suddenly I saw group of fishes coming very close to me, then suddenly they started jumping…… they were Barracudas, I remembered Pranab, it was a wonderful sight, I even showed my son, who too was excited, & tried to catch them but could not. One of them was around 1.5 feet long. Better luck next time. Any luck with you guys. Bye, Ronald |

Pranab, I thing you are correct. All the fishes have gone deeper in to the sea due to the hot weather. I went to Makhtoom bridge on Thursady evening around 7 but did not get anything. I think Makhtomm bridge is not a good spot for fishing as all the bait is bitten of by Crabs as there are alot of crabs in the makhtoom area due to rocks. I also faced the first check of the fishing license by the Muncipality guys there. Although there were a few guys doing crabbing and another expat fising without a licnese but they were not fined. They were told to leave. Regards |

hi guys , dont get disappointed due to summer . My self amir schuber his friend and salim spend 2 hours in the beach of omal quain but did not pick up a single fish . Then we drove down to dubai at al sheef . 4 hours more there and u knw what . Schuberts friend pickd up a small naser and i pickd up a small cat fish thats all . When every one was tired and went back home i carried on to jumeriah . Anothre 2 hours and i got only 2 small sheris . Then the sun was so hot i felt dizzy and went home . So that is fishing in summer months . But guess what a silver lining . Saleem called from om al quain that he saw the spot which amir mentioned us and yesss the were few westerners picking up barracuda near by peacock resort . It seems they got a few good ones because they were doing barbecue with that fish and enjoying . So there is still hope and i will for sure run again to omal quain to get them regards |

Thanks for the tips we received from you, Amir and Salim. Salim, best of luck to you. Hope you find some good fishing spots when you are back in Mumbai. Cheers Schubert |

Hahahaha ! Sorry Rami, no I dont mean that way, you got it all wrong. When I say jitter the line...I mean the same thing as you say (playing the guitar) The split ring is easy to put onto your line & the hole is big enough for it to slide down the entire line, over the swivel, etc & go upto the hook. When that goes down & you jitter the line...it is more irritating for the fish. I do hope you understood what I was trying to say. Did you? In other words, the split ring is a tool to irritate fish. :o) |

HI Keyur, You use split ring instead of Swivel, that's fine (under heavy preasure the split ring with split open, That's why I use swivels) but what do you mean by jitter the line ? Remember, this is my version of this setup and it's works fine for me. everybody can do their own version, and if it works, that's the purpose. Thanks |

Hi Rami, I use a split ring on my line & then jitter the line......I think it is more effective. It would be interesting to meet up with you sometime. |

Hi, I have 2 answers, 1- Play the Guitar, How?????????? use your line as a guitar, the vibrations of the line and the tighter your line the sharper the vibes...that should drive grouper crazy and head out of it's hideout. 2- Other opption is Free spool you reel so that no tention on the line. and wait for 20 to 30 minutes, if the grouper doest come out, you have no choise but to cut the line. I hope this helps Rami |

Hi Rami / Chua, Is the last question a trick question ? I have no clue about getting the fish out once it is stuck. I'm not sure if you are familiar with flying paper kites.....We use this term tichki (pull & release the line with a jerk) after that I then leave it lose for a little while. I usually repeat it a couple of times till I get the line out. Never really thought about getting it out with the fish, although sometimes I do get the fish. Is there some method to get it out with the fish? If so please let me know. Chua, what video is that, I cant view any videos at work. Can you describe what is in the video ? Chua, I will meet you over the weekend. Got my new reels yesterday. |

"Now, my question. What if the fish wins the battle and heads to its hideout, and your line is not cut. What do you do to get the fish out?" This is quite simple............ dive into the water, tell the fish a joke....when it is laughing pull it out. If the fish doesnt laugh...then swear at its mother & father. It will get angry & come after you.....then you pull it up. If the fish still doesnt come out, tickle it till it cries out holding its stomach. By now you will surely be able to pull it out. Hope you all enjoyed your fishing lesson. On Friday the guruji no 3 will conduct a practical examination. The venue will be informed shortly. Please keep you fishing rods, lines, hooks all ready. You will not be permitted to borrow any equipment. No borrowing bait & no using nets. School is over for today |

Hi All, I am going to start a series of my preferred techniques that produced will in the past and still producing decent size fish. Some of them are for deep sea and others for surf and at the end will keep a question open so we can have an open discussion about it. Today, we’re targeting Groupers. First, we need to know more the fish we’re pursuing. It lives deep on rocks and around reefs. It has huge mouth and a lot of power. It feeds by swallowing its prey and running back to its hole. Now to catch it and this worked well for me in the US, Kuwait, UAE, Oman and the Red Sea. 1- a 5foot leader of 80LB tied to a circle hook No. 10/0 2- Main line is 40LB. 3- Tie your leader to a swivel and slide an egg sinker to the main line then a red bead to stop the sinker hitting on your knot and tie it to the other end of the swivel. 4- Find some rocky bottom on your fish finder or sounder. 5- Drop a bag of chum to the bottom as that will attract the fish to your chum slick and create a feeding frenzy. 6- Place a live pin fish (small grunt or she’ri will do) on the hook through its nose or use cut bait(you can use a whole dead one and butter fly it and hook it through the nose). (I prefer live bait) 7- Drop your line to the bottom until there’s a slack in the line, then have your line tight and reel 3 rounds to get your sinker off the bottom. 8- Make SURE your DRAG is tight as possible as the first few minutes are the hardest, you want to keep the fish away from its home. Once that is accomplished you can loosen your drag to play the fish to the surface. 9- Remember circle hooks doesn’t need any hook setting as the fish movement away with the hook in its mouth sure sets the hook in the side. Now, my question. What if the fish wins the battle and heads to its hideout, and your line is not cut. What do you do to get the fish out? Thanks Good luck |

Hi Keyur Thnaks for your reply. Im based in Abu Dhabi and I managed to catch the "Silver Grunt" in the Mina area. I caught a smaller one yesterday as well. By the way, are you sure it is a Silver Grunt because google results for Silver Grunts seems to be slightly different than the one in my post. |

Hi Iftikhar shb. Sir, There are two types of people in the world. One who creates problems and the other one who solves problems. There are afew people who like to create problems but they are a minority. Guys like us would always want to meet you and learn things from you. There is no price for experience. Pranab is a excellant guy who simply wants every guy involved with fishing to form a small community in Dubai, which is a great idea being away from your own country. |

HI Zahed, Welcome to the forum. Nice to see some new faces here. The fish in the pic is called a 'Silver Grunt' in english. In arabic it is called 'Nagroor'. This is usually found in abundance in march - april. They grow to a max size of 50cms. There are other varities of grunts in the UAE which grow a bit larger, but the one shown in the pic is a silver grunt. Where did you catch this? |

I have been reading this forum for quite some time from a common fishing friends id . Today i created my id . Just want to tell you any one making surcastic remarks here is being seen by people world over . People should take care while they write any thing here because what ever remarks they make can be misintrepeted by people who are watching this forum as being the cultural value of the nationality who makes such remarks . This forum is about fishing . It should stay like that . Its ture all that people write here are not relevant to every one . For example a person who is into deep sea fishing might not be intersted in shore fishing topic and vise versa . Because all can not afford a boat here . I have noticed fishermen in dubai are from different social backdrops . Some might be a labourer who earns 1000 dirhams and still hold the passion for fishing . Others can be very influntial people out here . But the bottom line is no one has the right to make surcastic comments which is uncalled for . I wish good sence prevails here and all of us talk about fishing and only fishing . And people who dont have enough to say about fishing should keep quite and listen and try to gather knowledge . Please dont treat my write up as an advice its just a friendly sugession to make this dubai fishing forum a better place . I am really impressed that dubai being such a small place has climbed up the ladder is just behind USA and MEXICO in the world listing of this forum . We should all feel proud about it . Lets all join hands and make this forum a better place for exchanging fishing ideas . |

Hi every one, I have not been doing alot of fishing due to conveyance problem. I however do agree with Pranab that every thing cannot be learnt through books, if reading books would have been a solution than, there would have been no need for prctical experience as is the case with Chartered Accountants, Doctors, lawers etc. Besides this we should not forget that this forum is an excellant opportunity to make friends and enhance you friend circle. |

hi jeen , First of all i would like to tell you i do respect you as a stalwart in uae fishing scene . I have seen your presence in indian angler also . My request to you is please write about your experiences of fishing to make the forum more lively . It will help newcomers like me and many more out here to learn more about fishing . I dont thinnk buying a book solves the problem because they are not in context to local fishing scene neither they are written on specific fish variety available here . I have learn a lot more by just talking to local fisherman who are uneducated but do a living on fishing at the many fishing villages scattered over jumeriah sea beach . Then just imagine with a person like you who is a store house of fishing knowledge , what would be the effect if you write on this forum . I will be personally extremly happy if you just share your experiences out here on the forum for novices like me . By the way , there is a guy in auh his name is mansoor and he is crazy about fishing . He was looking for some one to go out fishing with . Let me know if i can give your cell no to him .He is not a member of this forum . I happen to know him as he is a client of mine in auh . Awaiting your approval on the above mentioned subject regards |

Hi fellow fisherfolk, I dont want anyone to feel like an outcast in any way. Everyone is welcome here. I'm sure that some of you have been fishing for some time & would definately want to mingle with the so called 'experienced' anglers. However, out of the members here some have been fishing for decades while others are newcomers. Some who are merely fascinated with fishing, others who are obsessed with fishing, some who use fishing as a means to relax & others who use it as a sport. I am not going to be the one to decide who can or cant be a part of the forum, nor will I be a moderator here. It would be appreciated if everyone in their own minds would contribute in any way they can, or feel free to voice their opinions of what can & cant be said here or what should & shouldnt be said or what they would like to hear in this forum. If people with good many years of experience sit in the sidelines, who then can people learn from ? Some may say that they ask stupid questions, but to them its learning something new. Some of the info here is totally unnecessary & I completely agree with you. Its good to hear that you have spoken your mind out & there is absolutely no reason to call yourself any names. This forum can be improved & bettered in many ways as long as there is active participation here. I do look forward to seeing some healthy posts around here, that would serve as a closer knit fishing community. Through this a lot can be learnt as we experience different styles of fishing, new ideas, new locations, new techniques. Knowledge is a waste if it is not shared. It is also true that the more knowledge you share, the more you learn. Learning is a part of our everyday lives till the very end. Looking forward to some good disucssions here. Regards, Keyur ________________________________________ Tight Lines, Bent Rods & Screaming Reels |
