That temperature break sure looks favorable out where we stuck those LFT's the last few day's of September last season at about 43 nm from Morro Bay. The Donut looks good, too!

The weather doesn't.

Blackie, how was the weather/sea conditions out there?

Monte, I was consulting with a client on the Shell Beach bluffs yesterday around 4 p.m. About a half mile off shore from the Shorecliff Hotel all the way to the Pismo Pier was a bait boil that had to be several acres wide at minimum. The birds were hittin' on it like Oprah on a Baked Ham as well as hordes of Dolphin. It was a feeding frenzy for the entire 45 minutes I was there!

The good news... On my home to Shell Beach, I saw thousands of birds diving on a baitball offshore for the first time this season.
The bad news... Is it me or does todays SST shot look like it's cooling off and moving away from the donut?

Just got back Sunday from an 8 day trip on the Royal Polaris. Traveled 1 1/2 days to The Ridge ( Uncle Sams Bank) fished the whole day, no Yellow Fin but plenty of Yellowtail. Traveled overnight to Alijos Rocks and found the Yellowfin tuna. 46 caught for the day then it died about noon. Finished the day bottom fishing for some nice grouper (40-50#).Dropped anchor and did it again the next day. Left Alijos and traveled to Cedros to find more Yellowtail (these were in the 35-51# range)Weather was rough the first 5 days, lot of anglers sick. Wind finally died so we went off shore on the last day to hunt for Albacore, but it was thin, only 8 caught. This trips over, but just over 400 fish caught with 36 anglers. Had an awesome trip. Cant wait till next year.......Good fishin to all.....Jimmy

Looking for some advise. I will be going to Kauai for our 25th wedding aniversary on 7/17 for two weeks and I was wondering if anyone has any recomendations for a fishing charter there. Since it looks like the wind is going to blow for awhile I most likely won't be able to make a run for the tuna here until we return. Any advise would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

================== DCPP Weather Forecast for Monday 06/25/07 ===================

SEA/SWELL:

Fresh to strong northwesterly winds will continue to produce a 4 to 6
foot northwesterly (300°) sea/swell (with a 5-9 second period) through
Friday, increasing to 5 to 7 feet (with a 5-8 second period) on
Saturday through next Monday.

A 1 to 2 foot southern hemisphere swell (with an 18-20 second period)
is forecast to arrive along our coastline on Sunday, building to
2 to 4 feet (with a 15-17 second period) next Monday and Tuesday.

ATMOSPHERIC CONDITION:

Very little change is indicated before the next upper-level trough moves
inland on Wednesday.

As this upper-level trough approaches our coastline on Wednesday, the
marine layer should redevelop along our shoreline leading to a slight
cool-off for our coastal and inland areas.

A strong, late season area of low pressure is forecast to park itself
off the Pacific Northwest. This condition will continue produce strong
northwesterly winds. However, the marine layer will likely mix out once
again on Thursday through the weekend, so with increased sunshine, our
coastal areas will likely edge upward in temperature toward end of the
week.

A high pressure ridge is expected to build over California by the middle
part of next week for generally warmer weather, possibly hot weather for
our inland areas after the Independence Day Holiday.

WINDS:

Fresh to strong northwesterly winds will decrease to moderate levels
on Tuesday through Wednesday morning.

Fresh to strong northwesterly winds are forecast on Wednesday afternoon
through next Monday.

Note: Today's charts are indicating that the low pressure system off
the Pacific Northwest will stay to far north to decrease our
winds this week.

DIABLO CANYON METEOROLOGICAL TOWER WIND DATA:

Today's winds:

Max peak winds: NW 38.3 mph at 13:15
Max sustained wind: NW 34.0 mph at 14:15

Yesterday's Winds:

Max peak winds: NW 47.2 mph at 18:15
Max sustained wind: NW 38.1 mph at 17:15

SEAWATER TEMPERATURES:

A great amount of upwelling along our coastline has produced much
cooler intake temperatures.

Intake seawater temperatures will range between 49° and 52° through
next Monday.

SEAWATER VISIBILITY:

Seawater visibility was 32+ feet (top to bottom) at the Diablo
Canyon Intake.

I like The Professional's Choice. They are very friendly and carry some good stuff. They have great prices and carry bass gear!

I live in Atascadero and buy a lot of stuff from them.

Here is their web page. Not much but should give you the info of where they are.

I fished out of Morro last Wed. for one of the best weather and fish trips I have had since a trip I took on the King Willie to Cape san martin. We left Morro at 5:30 and had lines in the water off ragged point at 7:00. Caught two keeper lings and a few big reds. Let all the rest go. I also had an interesting experience with Virg's last week. I wanted to choose several Jigs for the trip and the guy behind the counter made me feel like I was not welcome so I left and went to the Proffesionals choice in Atascadero on Morro Road. Not only were the jigs cheaper they also honored a law enforcement discount and the guy behind the counter wanted to fish off my boat. I will be fishing again the week of the 4th. Good luck everbody.

Long, hard-edge with blue water banking against dirty above The Elbow. Could be holding the bait/volume. Aprox 55m.

I was glad to find out out I am not the only one who noticed the huge difference in customer service between Avila and Morro Bay sportfishing!
Speaking of... Roger, is that wind gonna stop blowing for Monday night/Tuesday? I have a hankerin' for a Tuna Sandwitch!

Dumb question and I don’t want to start a feud here, but why doesn’t Virges approach Deke to bait their pens? Then they don’t have to worry about a bait boat and can hire a guy to scoop only.

Seems like a no brainier but I haven’t a clue what the story is there.

JIM
Yea we pulled into Ventura on Friday afternoon at 1600 hours , after 7 days on the big pond, we fished a total of about 5 hours , once on a school of yellowtail the size of two football fields , but they wanted bait and the friggin bait tank on this 400,000 bertram fishing machine was BROKE , oh well we did manage 7 fish out of the school on a yourzi diver on a light spinning rod , was a rodeo , Jr caught a nice yellow fin grouper off cedros island, was a rough trip coming up the hill all the way we had two nights at anchor , one in turtle bay and one in Ensenada, blow and go all the way.
The highlite of the trip was in turtle bay when I caught a MANTIS SHRIMP on a bait rig , he speared me in the middle finger , what a beast ,dont touch em .
anyway we did not get the deal we singed on for , end of story , fish are smoked and being eaten at this time.
Maybe the weather will lay down for the weekend and i can get even , if not look out PERCH
Blackie/Sr

Josh. et al;
As Tim indicated, sunday is not looking good on any of the forecasts and fri/sat is now pretty iffy. Just have to watch it for few more days and hope the forecast improves.

Avila is fine. Most likely Friday afternoon fishing on Sat. It's just wait and see for now.

tunafin i agree, i have gone in there on a weekly basis and ask what is going on with the bait situation and everybody just shrugs there shoulders. i bought a throw net now i have all the bait i want. good luck catering to the valley fisherman and shunting us locals.

Morro Bay is getting bad. Called to ask about live bait and they didnt seem to care and had no definate answer. Their operation is loosing the customer service touch. Prices have gone up and I fro one hope if a San Diego Boat should come up this year it would go to San Luis. I would give them all my business. Lastly why have a fish report line and not update it. June's message has been there since April. Get with it.
