Jim G et al: I doubt that any boats went prospecting today. Talked to Mistress who didn't go because the wind and lump was still up. Couldn't raise Seeker so doubt that he went either. Jim; We have not had any good sst's since the fouth of july so no lat/lon of any potential areas. If the weather comes down today and it is still forecast to do that, then there are several boats going tomorrow. Just hook up with them, spread out and start looking. |

Gary, we're leaving port between 4-5am. Probably run south for bait and then out. Look to be fishing by 7. Call me on 68. More eyes on the water = more fish for everyone. |

Can anyone post the Lat/Lon on the best place to try for tuna on Monday? It looks like I will be the only man in my boat. How far out to sea do Verizon cell phones work? |

Jeez, I guess my mistake has been offering to pay people then?! Actually Bob, I have been considering calling you. But seriously, thank you. The problem is there are very few people that know how to fish lumpara nets. Had a guy I was really hopefull of. Maybe he can get himself straitend out but for now I need a seaworthy deckhand. Once I figure it out myself, some of you might want to make a trip just for the experience. |

Darby, I'm sure that if you ask for volunteers to work the Billy Boy from this board that will will have some eager takers. You might chech with your insurer to see if that could work. Bob |

Thanks Darby for the update. It is good to know the straight scoop. We'll be patiently waiting. With the problems launching at PSL we really need your your bait operation. Mike: Good to see that you are still among us. Will you be chasing albacore this year ?? I'll be in touch. Weather: Yesterday was quite unexpected it stayed calm all day and still is for the most part this morning. If you are not familiar with the link I posted below it is a satellite based wind sensor and is pretty accurate. It only posts a couple times a day so not very current but it will show you the condition out where there are no buoys. Yesterday it was calm out at least 75 miles but windy beyond that. The forecasts still look good for mon, tues, wed and sunday may be okay too. http://seaboard.ndbc.noaa.gov/quikscat.php?station=46011 |

I'd be willing to bet if that enough boats got together and offered Deke and or Darby a fair price, Deke would dump a load of 'dines in Virgs receivers for next week. Or perhaps Darby would go buy a load off Dekes boat at Port and bring it to Morro.....any thoughts Darby on what it would take?....or is that not possible?.. |

Virg's bait boat update: First I am sincerely sorry to all that are waiting so patiently (or impatiently) for live bait to arrive in Morro Bay. We are doing all we can with the resources we have to make this happen for everyone. After unsuccessfully trying to give the Billy Boy away or find her a captain, I resolved to run it myself. A daunting task in that I have never fished bait and have just a few other responsibilities to tend to at Virg's. The good news is that the new and very green crew now has the net and boat ready to fish. The bad news is half the crew just got thrown in jail and will no longer be associated with the business! But there is some more good news. Out of the blue I got a call today from a guy in Florida who has fished bait since the 60's with this style net and boat. He's looking to relocate to Ca! But his wife has cancer and they are going into the hospital on Monday. But hold on, there's more. . . Actually, I'll spare you the details. This is the way it has been going since May. (Actually since last year if you recall those antics) In short, best case is two weeks. More likely, more. I will keep you posted here. (Stay tuned for more of "As the Bait Boat Rolls, a real life drama". I'm getting sea sick again just thinking about it.) Figured you deserve to know. |

Looking at terrafin, the water in front of the rock has been looking mighty Salmonie. Talked with a friend on Monday, he dropped in at 90 feet in front of the rock and hooked a 23 incher in 140 feet Tuesday morning. One person puking came in. Today six boats in the same area. When the kelp cutter went buy he came over the radio don't farm that one. Sounds like the Salmon, are on in front of the rock. Will be fishing on Sunday, due to having to make a living on land. Had to replace the steering on the boat last weekend. Everything looks good now. Run for Salmon, Sunday, running for Tuna, on Monday. Bset regards, Joseph & Tami Anderton BBQ. PS. Light blue dark blue with white Hoochie, on the bottom with flasher. |

SST/Chlorophyll: This marine layer is forecast to be with through the calm period which means the July 4th pictures is all we will have to chase albacore. The closest break, along the 122:30 line, is not the cleanest. The cleaner water is along the 122:40 between 35:00 and 35:20 but starting at the 30 line and trolling west is probably the thing to do. |

Weather: The San Martin buoy is 0 wind this morning and the swell is coming down and stretching out. This is ahead of all the forecasts. Saturday is still iffy but sunday looks good with monday tuesday the best. Thursday is forecast to blow again which means wednesday could go either way. |

Hey Carl, They went thru the same thing last year & or the year before. Not feasable to run down to PSL & back up to Morro. There was a big stink on this board over the same thing. |

Someone brought this point up earlier and I still have not heard an answer on this question. Why can't Virg's buy bait from the Deke's while thier opertion is down? Is it complicated? I can tell you I'd be willing to pay more for bait and I know others would to. If it's not doable due to feasability or conflict or for what reason fine, just let us know. A little communication goes a long ways. Carl |

Oh cool, I have a 18 1/2' Chrysler marine I/O with an older volvo penta AQ170A /evinrude 9.9 kicker, 18gal bait tank. But i definitly want to get a skiff. Im looking at an older 14' Klamath. I think it would be convienient to have a boat that can be launched off the pier using the wench with a "Gaviota sling" |

Fished PSL today in the skiff. Got a sweet schoop of medium dines from Deke and headed up to the Pea Patch. It was rough going, but we finally made it up there and were about to fish for about 3 hours. Got a nice 28" but on our second drift. Had several raked baits, 3 shorts, two sand sole, and a few rockfish and lingcod the next several hours. Big white caps chased us off around 10 a.m. Ran inside and caught 1 25" but off of Port and 3 more shorts. Super nice inside, felt like fishing in Baja! Let's hope the wind lays down!!!!!!!!!!!!!! lat, steve |
