Fished out of Moss last Sat. Went 50 miles on a 220 heading for 25 fish. 21 between 25 and 34 LBS.Caught half on bait.Bait is only way to go for me!! Moss is great because its a fishing port very laid back. |

tugfire, yes you can spend the night at moss in the parking lot. there are three or four pay stations around a huge parking lot. probably be other guys doing the same. yes the ramp at monterey is good near the coast guard but i don't think its cool to park overnight and driving through monterey with a wide load is no fun unless you know exactly where your going so mapquest if you choose monterey. we are supposed to head up tonight to fish tomorrow. thanks harrell, wasn't to sure about the bait. |

Rick, I fished out of Monterey last weekend with only jigs. This time of the year they hit jigs probably better than bait I think. There where a lot of boats that launched from Monterey and they caught a lot of fish with out bait. The fish last weekend where closer to Monterey than Moss Landing and that is about 14 less miles to travel.I do not know how much you have fished out of Monterey, but when the wind starts coming up get the hell out of Dodge. The swell can go from flat to unreal in a hurry and they way you have to come back to port is cross swell all the way and it can be hettic.Pick your days. They have a real nice launch facillity next to the Coast Guard station by Canary Row. Parking is again 12.Good luck. Mike |

Hi Guys, I'm thinking seriously about going out of Monterey for the albies, instead of Moss. The problem is, no bait. I wondered if a jig only trip would be worth while up there, or would I be sorry I didn't go to Moss and take some bait? Any thoughts on my delema, or info about the Monterey launch ramp, would be greatly apperiated. Thanks, Rick/Tugfire 26ft Glacier Bay Cat |

Enjoyed another calm day on the water at Morro. Beautiful ocean in the morning. Got one 26 inch silver that I had to release. Had three other hits in the same area which was 140 feet of water off the radar buoy. At least three other boats in the area but if they caught anything, they didn't say. Hope the run isn't over yet. |

Robb, Thanks for the info. I just got off the phone with "Joey", at the bait dock in Moss, and he says that he will have 4 to 5" chovies for Sat. Is it OK to pay the $12.00 to stay in the launch area, sleep in the boat over night, and launch the next day? Rick/Tugfire 26ft Glacier Bay Cat |

Local Tuna? So with the latest terrafin/chloro looking great, why aren't the tuna here? They are S & N, but not here??? I don't understand??? Can someone with more knowledge/experience around here shed some much needed light on this. FYI, the tuna fishing in Oregon is WFO. Boats continue to get all they want within 20 miles. My Pa and I will be dragging the Avocation up Oregon next Friday unless things heat up around here or Monterey. Let me know if you'd like some info on fishing in Oregon. thanks, steve |

tugfire, we spend the night at moss for $12.00 with no problems. the ramps are new, ventura style. i've seen a couple 26'cats launch with no problem. short harbor to open ocean. bait may be a problem, i've never seen the reciever there. may be better to make the extra thirty minute drive up to santa cruz, same parking and ramp and they have live bait.... we'll be up there tomorrow |

Cloud. You can jig up your own live squid inside China Hbr, Santa Cruz Isle in about 90-feet. Outer Banks is often selling live squid at S. Cruz and can be hailed on Chn 18. Tons of live finbait around too. Halibut seem to like the native live baits, especially tiny spanish macks and med 'dines. Good luck! |

Hi Gang, Since there haven't been any current reports on the albies in Morro, and the bait situation is dubious,I thought we would make a run at Moss. Any info regarding this landing, would be appreciated. Parking, launching, bait ETC. Thanks, Rick/Tugfire 26ft Glacier Bay Cat |

Excellent SST at 2:28 PM yesterday. There is a perfect plume of 60 degree water coming in from the SW to 35:20/121:30 , a little over 30 miles. Historicaly this type of plume has often held fish and is connected to the water that runs up to Monterey. The graphics show a 6-7 hour window tomorrow morning but blowing again by 5pm. Monterey weather looks good today and tomorrow. |

Anyone thinking about fishing tuna in the near future? Weather looks iffy but the Monterey boys are scoring with even a fish are two into 13-miles. Bulk is outside. Dorado are showing on the paddies off Diego. NWS is forcasting 10 to 15 on Wed for MB but Harrell has the handle on this. Today we found limits of white sea bass on fish 28# to 40#. Northern Chn Isle. |

FISHED MONTEREY ON SATURDAY FOR 5 NICE TUNA, LARGEST 40LB, BUT WHAT CHOPPY WATER ALL DAY THE FISH WHERE CLOSE, PICKED ONE UP 14 MILES FROM PORT.WE TRIED ON SUNDAY, BUT THE SWELL AND CHOP WAS WAY TO MUCH AND FISHED BOTTOM FISH INSTEAD.LOOKS LIKE WE MAY HAVE A LONG TUNA SEASON AND THEY MAY STAY CLOSE.IT WOULD BE NICE WHEN THE WEATHER LAYS DOWN FOR MORE THAN A DAY OR TWO IN A MONTH. Hello Sheryl & Ed, It was nice to finally meet the two you, and conect faces to the voice. Glade to hear you were able to get Salmon, in Avila. Thank's for all the reports and looks like we will be having more fish coming our way soon. Went out with a friend today at 10:30 AM. fished the radar bouy area. Two fish in the box, green Crocks, 100' down. Had one trible hit ended with one fish about 2:00 PM. Best regards, Joseph Anderton BBQ. |

Hey Jimmy. If you thoght the weather was bad in Morro you should have been with me at Monterey.I went 30 miles south west for a nasty ride and 7 nice fish. I had to quit at noon got hit in the head with one of the rocket launchers when a wave dropped out from under me as I was leaning over working on tackle. I had three other boats from Fresno in the same area best score was 9 fish. I will be ready to go when it calms down and will try to take a partner next time. I am getting too old to handle it by myself. (Mary B) |

We also had a good fishing trip out of Port San Luis. We fished 2 miles south of the red light in 160 feet of water for three fish. They were 110 and 129 feet down on the wire. It was a morning bite on white scalite and white glow hoochie. It felt really good to out some of that pink meat in the boat. Good luck to all weekday fisherman, Sheryl |

Morro Bay was good to us today. Got limits (4 fish) and lost 1 all before 9:30. Ocean was nice but really foggy. All the fish were caught between 75-95 on the wire in 135 foot water using purple haze hootchies behind green flashers. Other boats reported cathing them too. |

Got a late start out of Morro Bay today. It was nice to meet you Joe this morning at the launch. When we got out there had been a few fish caught in 140 to 170 ft., We heard that they came deep. We were unable to get anything to go, just a red. So after being rocked almost to sleep we headed in around 1:30. It was pretty lumpy out there today. We headed to Port San Luis to wash the boat and decided to put the boat on a mooring and give it a try there tommorrow. Good luck to all, Sheryl |

Went out of morro today for salmon, got one short near the old radar bouy 165' of water down 120 on the wire with a flasher and green hoochie. Very lumpy out today. Saw and heard several boats out today trying for salmon, Steve got 2 keepers and a couple of shorts I think. Heard of a couple of others being caught but otherwise a slow day. |

Good report Steve--we'll have other opportunities. Some of them just get away even with zero error factor. BBQ--was there any late action? Looking forward to a report either way... There were mackeral and lots of pinner (two eyes and a wiggle) chovies in massive balls out there yesterday, easy to find, but our fish action came away from them. I did manage to spear about a 4 inch 'chovie on a spoon taking small fish award for the day. I need to talk to my 7 month old grandson about how to cast, tie knots, set drags, play & land fish, drive the boat etc so taking weekend off. Guluck to those who go, Cloud on Joy Lyn out |

Fished MB today with Ray Cloud in his sweet Robolo! Got a 10# fish first thing in the morning. Nothing for a few hours and then I had another good takedown. The fish pulled a little, then bolted for the surface and started coming towards the boat. It FELT smaller than the 10# fish. The fish continues to come towards the boat until it is about 30' away...then it turns in the water and we see this huge silver/purple flash. This is no 10# fish!!! Unfortunately it was a fat/lazy pig, for it just twisted and flopped about 2 feet below the surface, never going on any good runs. As I wrestled the fish closer to the boat we could see that it was BIG!!! It continued shaking its head and body straight at us until we got it about 20' from the boat...then the lure just popped out of its mouth It was absolutely heartbreaking. Probably the second biggest salmon I've ever had on (caught a 50# in AK). We think it was at least 30#, but it was aweful deep and probably wide...it may have gone 35 or 40! I can still it when I shut my eyes. Ohwell, better to have hooked and fought than to never have hooked and fought at all! Reset the gear and get a shaker immediately. then a 3 hour dry-spell, picked up another keeper (22") at 1 pm. Trolled 'til 3:30 pm for just a few blues. Nice day on the water. No swell, but building wind all day...probably 20 knots when we left and 3' wind waves. All keepers came on red hotspot/purple haze hoochies down 40-80' OTW. thanks for the ride today Ray...had a blast. good luck to those that go out. the salmon are there!!! best fishes, steve P.S. talked to some guys today at the launch ramp that got 7 albies yesterday at the Davidson. |
