Thanks Dave you must have been on the boat. Any size to the fish ? Looks like we will have to go north if we want albacore. Heard good scores out of HMB. I am waiting the details on bait at HMB. Will post them when I get them. |

JIK When Matt and I were there last week , we did a little recon work and it appears that the area we fish will be outside the MLPA , also most of the areas we fish at PIEDRAS BLANCAS will also not be affected , glad you guys had a super day out there , now if them LFT would only participate. still working on cleaning the new tin boat Matt and I bought , be a good LEFFINGWELL boat , just needs some serious cleaning. Blackie..... On Thursday, we killed em off the domes on your suggested area... When we got past those pesky ling cod, we would hit the reds..... locations like that show the hours you must have spent on the water.....Thanks again..... The lings were like blues.....you just could not get past them...........most of em were shorts....but still.... |

He should be close to home by 7pm so I will try then and post if I talk to him. Otherwise very quiet today. With this great weather should be some action tomorrow and sunday. |

Cloud: Caught a short at the edge of the kelp on a 5" swimbait that was purple/metal flake chrome. That fish was 26". The 30" slug came on a 3/4 oz. chrome kroc casted along the edge of the kelp outside San Augustine reef. It was a real battle to get that sucker to the board. Will |

I bet they already knew on the mother boat. That people were not wearing their license. Before they put the rubber boat in the water. So if you don't want to be boarded. Make sure you have your license on properly. I was checked one time ans the person who was with me for got his. I told him to wear my wife's. we were checked from wardens boat and it passed. |

My understanding is that you don't have to wear your badge offshore, you can keep it in your pocket or tackle box. You only need to wear it near shore or onshore, I think. |

We were boarded last year during a wide open stop. 59miles from the bay. Slid up in the rubber raft from the mother ship. They boarded the boat with all rods bent, gave two tickets for unlawful fishing. (No displayed licenses) One of the knuckleheads was totally into wrecking anything that resembled fun and humanity. Tookem 30 minutes to write two tickets that should have taken 5 minutes each. The fix, make an appearance show your license to reduce it to 98.00 US from 196.00. I have bought a license every year since 16 except for out of state college. The above the waist display law is certainly one of the silliest forms of revenue generation yet to develop in our CA bureaucracy. There is absolutly no reason the bother people that far off the beach except to that end, revenue. Maybe all that fuel and wages not to mention risk at sea to catch that would be arch enemy of the fishing world was worth it. Funny thing, as they left, the other guy said "good luck guys fishing looks pretty good". Slap me in the face with a dumb and dumber contradiction. Shouldn't we have had to stop our illegal act and head in? Bla bla bla |

I fail to understand HOW a CALIFORNIA DEPERTMENT OF FISH AND GAME warden , can claim he is a FEDERAL OFFICER. That would mean that they also accept responsibility for there actions ........., do they also receive benefits from the feds I doubt it. If that's the case they are the worlds most underpaid sworn officers. |

I know of an incident last year where DFG enforced the license display requirement. An individual was ticketed 55 miles from the MB harbor. I spoke with the DFG officer the next day at the port. He informed me that they are Federal Deputies and the port of departure governed the requirements. This was all news to me at the time since I was surprised a ticket was issued for failure to display a license offshore. |

David: Your thinking is right, and a good observation. However, the federal government has authorized the state of California to enforce federal laws and state laws in Federal waters. California DFG takes the position that if you leave a California Port to go fishing and fish in California waters OR FEDERAL WATERS off our coast, then you must have a California license. We had a little disagreement on board the ship when the CDFG officer questioned me. I had a valid ALASKA fishing license on my person and was fishing in Federal waters. They claimed that the port of debarcation was the key ... and since we left San Diego, I was required to have a California license. I assure you that I plan to do some research on this ... especially since this law has not been enforced out on the tuna grounds by CDFG in many years. In fact, this captain said he had never seen it enforced in the last 20 years or so ... I have fished out of MB and PSL for many years and have never been stopped out 40-50 miles by CDFG to check on a license. Maybe they have too much money (fuel) to burn these days harassing tuna fishermen.... Mel |

Mel: I am curious about the ticketing for not having a CA fishing license. How is it that a state can require you to have their license when you are not in their jurisdiction (which is three miles isn’t it)? If it has to do with where you come back in, then can a citation be issued before the violation occurs? If a boat were to leave out of Oregon, catch fish beyond the three mile California waters and return to Oregon- do they have to have a California license? I hope I don't look like I am trying to get free legal advice- but I have always wondered about this. |
