I read article in tribune, that both Morro bay and port San Luis Obispo. Want to sink ships for artificial reefs. I personally hope they do Any thing to give back a fishing area because we are losing so much area. There is a meeting on this for public input. those in support might want to show up. Seating is limited and there is a phone number or internet registration for meeting. We don't want some anti fishing people to protest this plan. In my opinion anyway. phone is 530-633-4858 , Email admin@cs2r.org. Though I'd post this here if someone missed this. |

Does anyone else want to run out of Morro/PSL for tuna Saturday. Water temp and chlorophyll charts look fishy. Starting @ about 30m out heading towards the elbow. Wind forecast is 10m or less. Also both ports have bait. We are going out for sure. It would be nice to have a few more boats go to get better coverage. |

AL: Don't think spectra will work. Cannon applies a voltage to the wire and detects the current drop when the wire clears the water to stop the motor. I Don't think spectra is conductive. |

Can't get to Santa Cruz but I will be running out of Morro Bay Saturday unless there is a weather change. Anyone else running? Is there bait in Morro this weekend? We will probably head towards the doughnut unless some better terrafin charts show up. |

TIM You know you are right , I sat there last night in front of the tube and said there was NO 10 day notice , same old s--- with the DFG they just run with it and expect everyone to GUESS . WHAT DO YOU SAY MEL? I would also think they would print up some material to hand out at the stores when you purchase the licence to show the closed areas, on line dont get it , I know lots of fisherman that do not have access to the on line DFG.. ON another subject does anyone have a GOOD report from the LFT fleet in SC or moss? Blackie/Sr |

It has been rumored that tomorrow, 9/21 would be the day for the MPA's to take effect. I saw in today's Tribune fishwrap that is supposedly the case. I did some navigating through DFG website and after searching, I finally found some verbiage to clarify the closure tomorrow buried amongst the accolades on what an achievement this program is. My question.... Did anyone receive the appropriate notification? I subscribe to DFG's Marine Management alert system where DFG would notify anglers with the mandatory 10 day notification, i.e., the early season closure from Pigeon Point to the Oregon Border, but I have not received one bit of info on the firm date of the MPA closure. After just calling their Fisheries HotLine which is supposed to include any in season changes or closures, as of 1500 hrs today, not one bit of info regarding the MPA's. Are we anglers required to rely on the rumor or media coverage for this closure? Just curious whether I missed something that should be so obvious or if this process somehow usurps the typical requirement for posting. |

I have a general question on braided downrigger line. I have Canon Mags with auto retrieve - the retrieve stops when the wire line clears the water. I want to switch to braided line. Do I need to put a stop near the end of the line, and if so, what would I use? Al McVay |

Jeff/seaweed It's plenty big enough for tuna. live bait or jigging. (NOT for trolling. The levelwind gears wouldn't handle the hard strikes) It's okay using 30 Lb. But if the fish are line shy you'll need to drop down to 20 Lb. |

If it is a busy weekend plan on being at SC between 3-5 am if you want a parking spot. If no spots are available then you will have to walk quite a ways. Be sure to map out your route to harbor ahead of time. Not well signed and multiple turns on small streets. They only have about 25 parking spots for boats. |

Cloud & Harrell, Thanks very much, for the insight about both harbors. I think SC looks like a better bet this weekend for us, because bait or no bait, with the pending storm, hopefully winding down thursday or Fri, and the warm water moving offshore another 10 plus miles, I think SC will be the closest and safest run. Thanks Again, Rick/Tugfire 26ft Glacier Bay Cat |

Rick; In my opinion Moss has most of the advantages; More and easier parking, better bait usually, closer and easier driving, launching about the same but Moss can be 5-10 miles farther to the fish if they are north of the weather buoy. Bocci's bait can be fine but sometimes there is not enough oxygen in the harbor and the bait can be weak. Right now the bulk of fish being caught are much closer to Half Moon. |

Rick/Tugfire, the harbor facilities arent a lot but the launch ramp(s) at Moss got a major ($millions$) renovation recently and IMHO can't be beat. I haven't launched out of Cruz but have been to the harbor, there are more amenities closeby such a restaraunts, tackle shop (Bayside) and whatnot. FWIW Anyone know what the live bait situation is at Moss? That storm forecast does not look good for my plans. Argh.....Cloud out |

Dave/Antikbuff My plan is to leave here Friday, launch at Moss (maybe Cruz but tricky with large rig) and fish Sat Sun, return either Sunday eve or Monday. I gotta be back for work. Moss is only 5 extra miles from where the closest fish caught according to tempbreak. I'll give you a call later today to discuss further. Or send me an email, see my profile for address. Of course willing to share info from my side. Harrell, please do give me a call on the water Sat Sun with any breaking news. Sure hope some local fish are found, been out 4 times local over last two years for nada except fuel burn. Guluck guys. Only Oneida B seems to have the local magic. Cloud out |

Last time (years ago now) outa Monterey there wasnt any live bait, no ice or food (like a C-Store) nearby and parking was 12 bux in quarters. We couldnt get change at 4AM so got a ticket instead, which was 15 (so really no big deal but sheesh, 4 lbs of quarters?) Can anybody post some updated Monterey info, particularly where to get bait and ice? Cloud out |

Weather/SST/Chlorophyll The wind is still forecast to come down but probably not until late wednesday with the rest of the week looking good. The wind has changed the the water temps. There is a temp break at about 28 miles on a 228 heading, which is the heading to the donut, and a second break at 34 miles. It will probably change again before the wind comes down. |

Finally got my starter problem worked out and fished in shallow off the Abalone farm on saturday morning for 2 quick limits of quality reds, one nice ling and 2 short white seabass(released). Both of the WSB's came on white swimbaits with a 2oz red leadhead and a strip of squid, drifted in 55ft.I tried fishing whole squids on a slider rig to see if we could find a legal WSB,but the blue bass destroyed them before they got halfway to the bottom. We metered some bigger fish in the mid water column from the green buoy at "killers" up to the Ab. farm....My current plan is to head out on Tues. night around 3am and anchor on the spot through first light to see if the bigger boys will come out and play...I'll keep you all posted....jeff |

Weather/SST/Chlorophyll; Good SST/Chlorophyll shots that show potential as close as 30 miles along the 121:30 line starting at the 35:20 and running south past the Donut. All the forecasts indicate the wind coming down starting wednesday and will be down through the weekend. If we are going to get fish this year this is the time !! |

Left friday night for HMB. as I turned the corner to pick-up my buddys (John G & Matt) a loud squeel came from the trailer, Yeap, we spent the next 2 hrs on getting a Frozen bearing race off of a spindle. We managed to make it up there by 1:30 a.m. Woke up @ 4:15 a.m. to a steady line of boats rolling in. We got unloaded, baited and headed out. Huge, I mean huuuge fleet of boats out there, most of them headed in early, while we stayed and turned the lights out. Ended the day with 7 fish 2 were peanuts and 5 were about 12 to 15lbs. There was a few boats that got 20+fish and alot of boats going home empty. Beautiful weather Though. |

This from John Lindsey at PG&E ================ PG&E DCPP Weather Forecast for Saturday 09/15/07 =================== SEA/SWELL: The Diablo Canyon coastline remains on the northern part of the northwesterly wind fields this morning. The winds fields will build northward today as the weak low moves slowly inland over Northern California/Oregon. This condition resulted in lower than expected seas along our coastline yesterday. This morning's 2 to 3 foot northwesterly (300°) seas (with a 5-7 second period) will increase to 3 to 5 feet this afternoon and will continue at this height through Saturday morning. A 4 to 5 foot northwesterly (285°) sea/swell (with a 5-12 second period) will develop along our coastline on Saturday afternoon and will continue at this height and period through Sunday morning. As the northwesterly winds increase along the entire California coastline, the northwesterly (290°) sea/swell will further build to 4 to 6 feet (with a 5-12 second period) on Sunday afternoon and will continue at this height and period through Monday. Strong to gale force northwesterly winds along Northern California coastline will produce a 6 to 8 foot northwesterly (300°) sea/swell (with a 7-11 second period) on Tuesday through Thursday, decreasing next Friday and Saturday. A few, long-period forecast forerunner waves from the southern hemisphere have reached our coastline this morning. A 1 foot southern hemisphere (200°) swell (with a 20-22+ second period) will arrive along our coastline today, increasing to 1 to 2 feet (with an 18-20 second period) on Saturday. This southern hemisphere (200°) swell will further build to 2 to 3 feet (with a 16-18 second period) on Sunday, increasing to 3 to 4 feet (with a 15-17 second period) on Monday through Tuesday. |

I talked to Ken Stagnero this evening. He said the private boats out of Santa Cruz nailed between 20 to 70 fish per boat today. I didn't ask how far or where. The Princess, running out of Stagnero's in Santa Cruz, is running light with only 12 passengers tonight. We are trying to get enough to go again tomorrow night. |
