Punta cana Dominican Republic Deep sea fishing report by Jason Mattes for www.firstclassfishing.com

Peter and Platel,
Just a quick email to let you know what a great time we had fishing with
your gang. We arrived on the afternoon of 15th. We werepicked up at our
hotel by your van and driver. He was on time to the minute. He was very
curtious and freindly. His first question to us was were we ready to catch
fish. Of course our answer was a heartfelt yes. We charted a 4 hour
afternnon chater for just the 2 of us, (Tina and myself), she says it is
because I don't share very well. I might agree a lttle. We drove to the
Marina and were met at the shop with 2 white marlin hanging from the morning
outting. I was excited to say the least. We started out with 15 min of
arriving at the marina. 7 miles out from shore the line went in the water.
I was amazed at how well the first mate ran the poles and kept everything
neat and clean. 10 minutes into the trip and the right rod went ripping
tthrought the water. I could tell Tina was excited but wanted me to catch
the first fish. 15 minutes later we had a beautiful Darado aboard. First
one down. We trolled throught the beautiful waters and enjoyed the warm sun
all the time talking with our captian and first mate. The boat the
Intrepido was beautiful. As we trolled along we saw birds dipping into the
water. I had been deep sea fishing before and knew this was a good sign. I
saw our captain turn the boat toward the birdas and 100 yards past them 4
poles all went off. We watched as 4 Darado took our baits. I grabbed the
first rod Tina the second, the captain the third and our first mate the
fourth. He ended up losing his but the rest of us worked our fish and he
landed them for each of us. What an exciting adventure. I would love to
come back again soon. We have already discussed our return trip to Punta
Cana next year, and of course there will be only one Charter service for us.
Thanks to everyone and good fishing.

I would like to chase white marlins the week of June 18-25th. I'll be in Punta Cana with the family and am looking to fish 2-3 days. Don't care if it's on a 50 footer or a panga. I'm bringing my white marlin sticks (Cape Fear 14-24's, Shimano TLD 15's and a bunch of dink rigs). Anyone whose is going to be there and would like to make a group of 2-4, drop me a line at costaricabf@hotmail.com and we'll try to figure the charter deal out. Ciao, Bryan

Gonna be in Punta Cana the third week in July. Been doing my homework as far as the fishing goes, but I'm not really pleased with the selection of charters that I've found. Somebody gimme a hand and let me know about some of the reputable outfits down that way. I'm not traveling that far not to catch fish, so if you can recommend someone you've had a good experience with I'd appreciate it. Experienced crew and quality tackle. Drop me an email if you know something that'll help. Thanks.

Subject: Punta Cana Sportfishing

I was in Punta Cana last July 2002. The fishing was a little slow then but that is not really typical for that time of year. We had a few white marlin and dorado but no blue marlin.
As far as charter boats, there are several boats that dock in front of the Sunscape Resort, which is also next door to the Allegro Punta Cana resort. Most of the boats are decent boats from 31' to 45'. The only bad thing is the tackle. If you are lucky enough to hook a blue all I can say is good luck! There is one boat though that has good tackle and it is the best boat in that area. I forget the name of the boat but the Capt. is Herman the German and he is pretty easy to find. As far as price goes we didn't pay over $600 dollars for any boat for a full day of fishing. They ask for $700 to $800 but will take less.

Also, if you are looking for a top notch captian and are willing to spend $800 to $1100 per day you can go the the Punta Cana Resort and Marina. This is where the tournaments are held. There were two boats that ran out of that marina when I was there but I'm not sure if they are there now. You would definatily need to go there a day or two before to book a trip.

Subject: Fishing in Punta Cana

I'll be in Punta Cana,Dominican Republic in late January,is the fishing good that time of year?
What type of species of fish can be caught? How do I go about chartering a boat for fishing? Any information you can provide will be appreciated.

Thanks.
