CCSE=Central Coast Salmon Enhancement, our local non-profit org trying to keep our salmon fishery alive. Many on this board have been supporting with both $ and volunteer time for many years, and IHMO its worth it. If not currently supporting CCSE, please give it your consideration, the fishery can certainly use it. They've made it easy you can even donate a pre-set monthly amount as low as $10.00 with credit card. The website was down this morning or I woulda posted a link. Will Bateman, did the URL change? Robalo 18 thanks for the post. You probably know this already but here have been some extremely large (40+ lbs) WSB caught out of PSL over the years, Portside Marine and Patriot should have the picture proof if that helps convince the other powers that be. There have been good runs of 20lb-class fish off oceano also, several years ago during hali tourney there were some pretty good scores. But as in most places they are a challenge to catch consistently, and we dont get live squid often (once I've seen in my lifetime). There have been recent good scores on WSB out of Santa Cruz as well, so there's s'more proof their range goes well North of Pt. Conception. FWIW, Cloud out |

Hi all - I sit on the board of CCSE. We've been trying to contact Bill Shedd/AFTCO regarding the WSB program they got going, and try to get one going up here. Somehow, they seem think all the croaker are below Conception. Been tough getting attention up here. Will keep trying. BTW, the annual CCSE dinner is November 3rd. Hope all you guys can make it. We can sure use your attendance and support. Thanks. |

Raul: Here is John Linsey's lastest wind forecast. Should be good if you are fishing the inside. If you are going for albacore might be a different story. Gentle is 10kts and moderate is 15kts. Gentle northeasterly (offshore) winds will develop during the morning hours. Otherwise, gentle to moderate northwesterly winds continue along our coastline through Thursday. A weak cold front will produce moderate to fresh northwesterly winds on Friday through Saturday. These northeasterly winds will decrease on Sunday, increasing on Monday and next Tuesday. |

Hey Mike, Yep, Honda is running fine. (Now that I took the water out of the gas) We saw nice quanities of quality rockfish at the ramp. I don't understand the 'No-shore' fishing (Perch)either. Even here in Lompoc @ surf Beach. And I'm guessing...Jalama Beach is the same. Thanks again Mr. Webb (May you ROT in fish stench) |

Dave Did you get that Honda running right yet, we took the carb apart and gave it a good cleaning , it would not idle , now it runs so sweet , we dunked it in margarita sun with JR and I, it runs 15, so now we are ready to go. To bad you guys did not score yesterday , the bottom fishing was great , we had to enter the new MLPA cord and figure out where we could and could not fish, I still dont understand the beach areas being closed , I thought the idea was to protect the rock fish population , last time I looked the perch are in a different family. It appears that some of my areas that I frequent are off limits , what I plan on doing is just keep fishing until a game warden tells me im in the zone , I usally dont carry my GPS while surf fishing. Linda 'D' fished the donut & beyond yesterday for one 4-rod jig stop. We ran over a school of bonita (3-5 Lbs) NO LFT's. Temp break was 59.8 to a high of 66.2. Only life seen was a couple of birds. Weather was fishable, but sloopy. Wind was not a factor @ 10/14 knots. Headed back @ 1:30. 3 1/2 hrs to get in @ 10/15 knots. |

Fishmaster Steve: WSB on std trap rig and anchovie. I have caught numerous shorts 14"--22" between Rosa Reef and Pea Patch over the years (all released of course). Friend hooked up on one years ago off pecho musta been 40+ (I saw it hit), spooled his 12 lb. baitcaster before I could get going that direction. So they are out there...I sure wish we could get a pen enhancement going to supplement the salmon program...prolly never happen but worth wishing. Will? Cloud out. |

The PG&E Report. ================ PG&E DCPP Weather Forecast for Tuesday 09/25/07 =================== SWELL: This morning's 3 to 5 foot northwesterly (300°) swell (with a 9-11 second period) will decrease to 2 to 4 feet by tonight. This swell will further lower to 2 to 3 feet (with an 8-11 second period) on Wednesday and will continue at this height and period through Thursday. Combined with this northwesterly swell will be a 3 to 4 foot southern hemisphere (200°) swell (with a 15-17 second period) which will continue at this height through Wednesday but with a gradually decreasing period. Increasing northwesterly winds along our coastline will generate a 3 to 5 foot northwesterly (300°) sea/swell (with a 5-9 second period) on Friday, increasing to 4 to 6 feet on Saturday, then decreasing on Sunday through Monday. Preliminary analysis: This morning's surface charts and models indicate some intense storm activity developing in the Gulf of Alaska in early October. This storm activity is expected to produce a 6 to 8 foot northwesterly (280°) swell (with a 14-16 second period) along our coastline next Tuesday (2nd of October), and increasing to 7 to 9 feet (with a 13-15 second period) next Wednesday (3rd of October). This swell will decrease next Thursday. |

I was able to raise Mike on the radio in the driveway. His numbers were 34.10 and 121.00. I think that he was on the back side of the plume near the Pt. Conc buoy. There may also be fish on the near side of that plume which is quite a bit closer to Miguel. It was a little scratchy on the radio but I think he said he had 4 fish in the box (jig fish). He fished from noon to 5 pm today. |

Stuart, I am going on a 3 day trip to the Islands tomorrow/ Tue. Was thinking of hitting the break off of Miguel if weather holds. I was looking at 34 11 / 120 35 and folowing it south. Buddy going with me is more interested in surfing so I may not talk him into it. I'll be on 16/68. I won't be at the harbor until 0600 but have Galens number. Good luck & go get em. On overflying the grounds... I'm a pilot and have considered flying out there. It is a "warning" area for aircraft as well as there is the national defense zone border you would cross. But permission to fly could be granted depending on current activity. I have a fast plane so it wouldn't take that long to cover quite a large area. Maybe 30-40min each way and then searching at 170mph or so – I would think a lot could be seen in 2 hours total. But I have no experience spotting from the air so I'm not sure how easily schools are recognized other than the obvious boil. Anyone here done this for LFT? It seems like it would be the most effective to fly the area on a day when boats are enroute so there's a better chance of finding the fish in the same area they are spotted. |

Jim G, On the terrifin site you are looking for the lat. and long, that has the best tempurature and blue water for tuna.So if you look at say the donut you will see warm water and blue water breaks, a good place to start looking for fish. Not to say that the greenish water wont hold fish, but it gives you a good starting place. tincan |

Bob May/Bodean--good question, I checked the 07 reg book at time of catch and it said greenling had to be 12" min and there was a limit of one or two (can't remember) within the RCG limit of ten. Ours was 14.5", beauty looking fish & IHMO excellent table fare. If I missed something please post or e-mail, as much as I disagree with some regs and especially the MLPA closures, the policy on my boat is 100% legal 100% of the time. BTW Saturday we were checked by two Wardens in an inflatable, the Bluefin out of MB dropped them off near Pecho. They even broke out a measure tape for the 25 & 1/2" Ling we had at that time, visit went real, cordial polite professional. Seems they were making their presence known due to the question if they can actually enforce the new closures. It will be easy for the DFG to check radar to determine if their are boats in those areas. I've been checked more times this year than in any I can remember. Cloud/Joy Lyn out |

Thanks for the report Logan. Kinda suprised about the wind didn't expect it. Sounds like there are some fish out there if the weather will let us out there. The latest SST shows a great looking hard break at the donut. Lorna D is out looking today and I will try to contact them through out the day. Joe; those yellow tail could have come from anywhere. A lot of time people coming back from San Diego trips will clean them at MB although there was one yellow tail caught out of Morro saturday. |

Just got off the water. Finished with 4 LFT in the box. Numbers 3509.85/12156.8. Lines in at 8am with jig strikes every 30 minutes until the wind kicked are buts and forced us to turn around at 11am. High quality fish all over 20 lbs. We lost three, and I really feel that if the weather would have let us fish all day we could have caught 15+ fish. Black and purple for three fish and mexican flag on the other. Other boats north of me had a fish or two each. If you need more specifics just ask. |

The airplane idea is good, not any different then what the seiners are doing in Mexico however your cost basis is way off, IMO. I'm a pilot, I can barely rent a Cessna 172 for $100 an hour w/fuel. You also wouldn't catch me flying 50 miles off the coast in a single engine aircraft for 5 hours either but I'm not a Bold Pilot. Unless someone steps up to the plate with an offer and a Twin, you might contact Al & Chris Yecny at Air San Luis. They had a twin Apache that they used to fly for what we called "Shark Patrol" which was a near daily flight out off of hazards and 60 miles out patrolling the communications cable, all paid for by AT&T I believe. They would collect the ID numbers on the Trawlers that were dragging where they weren't supposed to be. They may still have that aircraft but to make that kind of run you're looking at 2 pilots, 2 engines, the second to get you to the scene of the crash when the first gets quiet, a liferaft onboard, and $$$. Maybe soeone here has another connection that could work? Cool idea if the bucks are spread out enough! |

Just another day of good rock fishing is what we enjoyed out of PSL. Deke's bait is great the anchovies are big and the left-overs are made up for tray bait for salmon next year. The water and weather were flat and calm, there were two whales that were around us all day and dolfin too. A good way to end the week. |

Hello Albacore, fisherman. Talking with Michell Rawley, this morning, she came up with a great idea. Rent a plane from San Luis, airport, they run about $100.00 an hour. It should not take more than 5 hours to look over our local waters. Michell, is contacting one of the local sword fisherman to find out who they use for spotting and will let know. If you are interested contact me by cell. 235-1866. Best regards, Joseph Anderton BBQ. |
