Hi Guys

I am new In Dubai and really into my fishing. I fished around the Palm off my canoe just before it got too hot with a lot of success.

I got loads of barracuda, queenfish, hammour, catfish and a few other smaller stuff.

I will post some pictures as soon as I learn how...

Regards

Carl

Pranab,

I feel the forum is not the right place to sort out your personal problems. If you have differences with your buddies, meet or call them and make amends. Friendship, like all other relationships is a give and take affair.

Just my two cents...

Cheers,
Ijlal

hi ijlal ,

After having receiving recently a call from a fishing friend from this forum that a few of my fishing buddies whith whom i went to for a boat trip , whom i always though very close to me was shocked to know they had been talking a lot of things about me behind me . So this friend of mine called me and gave me two advices .

Please never give unsolicited advice to a fishing buddy again on this forum . Just read what others write . Now i knw why so many dubai fisherman stopped writing in this forum .

So for the time being i should listen to my friends advice .

Hi riche i got your sms last weekend but i was beyond lima sailing towards al sheesha . So could not get back to you buddy . Sorry for that .

By the way i sincerely apologise to my all my fellow fishermen who accompanied me to the last trip from the forum in dibba for,for unknowingly hurting any ones sentiment by any of my actions or my comments .

My humble request to my friends please dont talk behind me because i have openly apologised in public on the forum .

Mark i checked with OCEAN ACTIVE and they said their boats are under repair at present and hope to begin from mid october .

regards

Thanks Ijlal & Ronald,

It’s always helpful if one gets good advise from guys such as you.

I would provide the other details pertaining to my fishing rod & reel tomorrow. However, if Pranab reads through today’s post then he would know the rod & reel details off hand as I got all the equipment with his guidance.

Hi Ijlal,

Thanks a lot for the clarification. That’s why I told Amir to take guidance from others.
When I saw no one, I was in two minds, wht. to write or not, (you know why) then finally I thought let me write whatever is best to my knowledge.
But it was nice of you to share the right thing in using diff. rods, I too learnt from it.
Thanks once again.

Hi Amir – Hope you got the answers. This is the goodness of experienced people like Ijlal, who share their knowledge and guide you properly.
If you already have the rod, don’t be dishearten, use it, and later on you can take more advice from experts and go in for the right choice.

Regards,

Ronald.

Hi Pranab
Thanks for the advice. I'll not be hiring a boat, just fishing form the shore/beach in Dibba. You mentioned there were some piers/rocks/breakwaters that were good there. I'm diving in the morning, and have to be back in Dubai early evening, so I'll just be fishing for an hour or so in Dibba. Of course, you, or anyone else, would be most welcome to join me.
Best regards
Richie

Hello Ronald,

Good to see you active on the forum!

I beg to differ with you on a few things. First, 30 lb line is way too heavy for shore fishing, and quite adequate for trolling, however, the size of line would also depend on the trolling rod. The guides on a conventional rod are indeed different from those on a spinning rod, but that does not mean you cannot troll with a spinning outfit. Again it would be the length and weight rating of the rod, and the capacity of the reel that would dictate what type of lures you can troll with that outfit; however, any rod longer than 7 feet will not be appropriate for any type of boat fishing. The only exception is the conventional trolling rods that run up to 8 ft, but have very slow tapers, and are meant to be used only from fighting chairs.

Hope this helps clear some misconceptions... and don't take it negatively

Thanks,
Ijlal

Hello Zahed,

Welcome back! How was your vacation? Hope you enjoyed yourself.

This is indeed bad news! I have been noticing the scafolding for many days but did not know what it was for. They are closing all places one by one for us anglers. Another bad news is they have blocked access to a great spot in Musaffah where we used to catch barracuda and kingfish! They are constructing something there and I guess that is the end of it. The only option left for us is to start boat fishing.

Regards,
Ijlal

Hi Amir,

Sorry I am a bit late in responding to your questions. I guess you already know by now what a telescopic rod is. It is always better to use two piece rods instead of a telescopic one. Your rod at 300 cm (9'9" approx) is too long for boat use. The problem is when you try bringing the fish in for gaffing or netting in a boat, your rod tip would still be very far away from the boat thus making it very difficult to land.

30 lb line is strong enough for all the species of fish normally caught in UAE waters from a boat but quite heavy for shore fishing, but it would also depend on the rod and reel you are using. I would better be able to advise if you specify the model no. of your rod and reel?

Thanks,
Ijlal

Hi Amir,

Daiwa brand is good. 30 lb line is just okay. You can do shore fishing, but trolling I doubt, bcs. as per my knowledge the guides are diff.
Still pl. take guidance from others. But at the moment you can surely go fishing on the shore. Enjoy yourself.

Hi Zahed, thanks for the msg. but where is this -Al Qurm Cornish ?

Abu Dhabi Anglers

Im bringing you some bad news.

Couple of months back, while fishing at Al Qurm Cornish I noticed some sort of soil-testing in the area. I came to know later from the area's janitor that all the water intrusion between the cornish and the facing island will be filled in an attempt to attach both areas.

Unfortunately, what he said seems true as I noticed today scaffolding being installed along the cornish and probably for isolating the site.

Really sad.

Hi Amir,

Telescopic rod is like an antenna, one inside the other. When using it, you just have to pull it until all the sections are out. But 2-3 pieces rods are much stronger than telescopic rods. The advantage in teles. rod is that you can carry it easily. There are diff. types of tele. rods, one with the guides and other without, and ofcourse of diff. sizes.

Regards,

Ronald.

I read the discussion on Telescopic rods in the PGFA forum.

What exactly is a Telescopic rod? Do they simply mean two & three piece rod or something else.

Hi,

Yesterday evening after a long break I had been to Mamzar – Dubai side with my son. Just got a squid. I could see fish movements due to light reflecting on water, may be the small one, but if I would have waited I could have got more bites.

Yesterday I met Praveera from ShriLanka, who had a readymade rod and reel with him. I told him about this forum and he was happy and eager to join, but unfortunately today morning he lost his father, so he and his family left to home country. Please pray for his Father’s Soul.

Any news from you guys.

Regards,

Ronald.

I got a boat owner friend there who caters to fishing trips and tourist . He can guide you better there . Inside the omani port of dibba there is a tackle shop . I think they are the best to guide you in that area . But better fishing spots are after HAFFA along the coast . Its 45 mins from the omani port of dibba . Specially if you gun down the GT there .

In case you need furthur assistance you can call me . I would love to join you there .

Hi Amir,
What you saw is called Metal Jiggs and they're used for vertical jigging, snap jigging or casting. They can be deadly on fish if they're worked correctly and use them to fish any depth of water from surface to the deep bottom.
I hope this answers your question.
take care and good luck

I have seen coloured steel lures at many tackle shops here & these are not the typical trolling lures or rupalas. Can any one please tell me that are these meant for shore casting or else these are also for trolling.

Pranab,

Is that a wolf fish? They are very dangerous creatures, in fact man eaters! Please do not go near the water as I have heard a few have been sighted in Dubai waters recently! They are even known to run over land at about 50 km/h when pursuing their prey. Please, please, do take care!

I am worried about you...

There is a wonderfull movie out with whale sharks...calles whale rider.

Today I was in the goverment internet side to get my fishing licence but they need so many informations and contracts and everything that it would take couple more days to get my licence but one day I will be ready and then should leave every whale shark for holiday far away

Hello Joerg,

I went to Shahama Harbour end of June and was standing at the edge of the quay side looking into the clear aquamarine water to see if any 'cudas or trevally were present, and lo behold, I see a 5 to 6 metre whale shark cruise by, just by the edge! I was shocked but did not panic and immediately put my hand in my pocket to take out my mobile, but then decided it would not be worth it to take any photos or make a movie clip. I later saw the creature two more times.

I also remember whale shark was sighted in Dubai Creek and reported by Gulf News last year, so I guess, it is not unusual for these giants to visit our waters.

Cheers,
Ijlal

Hi joerg ,

Its amazing to knw the creek had a visitor like that . In fact i was at creek from 7- 8.30 fishing but on the other side .

The temperature was nice and a soothing breeze was blowing yesterday night . I did pick up a few sea breams last night and a couple of nassers .

I wrote also the last week end was fruitful at palm although the size of the fishes were not that big but it was nice to see so many marine fishes togather at a time . My sinker was not hitting the bottom even . Thats why i wrote due to climate change there are changes in the water too . Hence we can say the season is arriving .

No longer we would be required to watch fishing dvd in the hot summer and can see some real action .

regards

pranab
