Hi everyone. i was fishing last week a couple of miles from greatkills park, by the shore tho. I caught a shark and my dad caught a sting ray. the shark was about 2 ft long and the sting ray about a foot and a half. I was fishing on bunker pieces. Is this a normal catch? I didnt know what to do with it, so i just let them both go. I caught a shark and a sting ray the week before. Give me your opinion and please tell me what i can catch on to cach a bluefish or any edible fish

Thanks for the crabbing tip. I've been hooking a lot of blue claws off CP while fishing. I spent 5 hours there on Thursday night. Once the wind died down and the tide turned bluefish action picked up with some very big ones in the mix.

hey Vtec depends if ur fishing conventional or spinning reels i use both on my friends boat. i love 40 pound test for convent and i use around 20-25 on a spiining reels. Also depends what ur fishing for, if ur fishing stripers + blues use heavier line then as if u were fishing for fluke sea bas etc. bait is simple bunker heads for bass and chunks of bunker for blues, weakfish. killies and squid for fluke sea robin. Let me know if u need another mate! haha lata mike

Fished CP on June 1st; 4-8 PM. The bluefish action was good and picking up when storm hit shortly after 8:00. I caught 8 with a few very nice sizes on cut bunker. No stripers, but I wasn't really expecting any until later. I had to cut it short because of storm.

I am new to Staten Island. I am located in the Arden Heights area. Does anyone know of any fishing spots close to my location. I don't have a car and will be depending on bus or car service
so I am hoping for some fishing as close to me as possible. Thank you one and all for any info.

Hey Robbo, there is a little action around SI I have read reports of monster blues being caught in gateway, really big ones 13 pounds, so went down to gateway to investagate I didnt see one fisherman with the goods, when I was there a guy had a run off on a small bass or blue though he was using clams, this was in the warm weather yesterday, I am actually thinkin of hangin up my gear till next season, although I know some good spots in gateway after dark. If it gets really cold I might be waitin till the spring run, my friend has already done that. I hear that the tackle shops had fresh bunker yesterday I dont know but thats what somebody on the beach at gateway told me, I wonder? till next time p10 out

Hey P10, Nice to see someone actually still posts to this site. Anyway, I'm just itchin' for the "fall" action to begin, all that nasty weather down south really screwed the fishing up here. If this run ever does start, it's gonna be hard and short (and probably in December!) There should have been plenty of mammoth blues and stripers taken off the beaches by now....what a time I picked to invest in new surf gear! A friend of mine just came home from a three day stay at IBSP in NJ. I figured him for at least a few keepers, would you believe three whole days and nights and only a 3 foot sand shark and a large skate! I would've been thrilled with the action and the eats, but he was disappointed and threw them back. Go figure. Talk to you soon P10. Email me if you want to drown some bait.

Hey everyone, first timer here. Just moved to Midland beach. Was so excited about the prospect of surf fishing 3 minutes from the house that I ran out and got new gear, man what a headkill. I've been watching it collect dust. Hell, I could've left them in the store and saved a few ducats. I went down to the Conference House two weeks ago and landed two schoolies on clam, 12" and 15" in that order. Can anyone tell me anything about Oakwood beach, as it's literally 5 blocks from where I live and would be easy to get to? Any action at Midland pier? Tired of waiting. I'd be honored to make some new fishing pals, just shoot me an email or post. Hope this thread becomes active. There's not much real time fishing info out there specifically for Staten Island. If not, I'll keep posting until....

Fished GK harbor on 9/23. A few weakfish on sandworm/squid combination. Lots of porgies though cut into any weekfish activity. Snappers all over the place with people catching them on snapper poppers. There were some signs of bigger fish, but they were rare. The crabbing was very good with some nice sizes mixed in.

Fished CP for 3 hours on August 26th. Caught and released 12 fluke, two of which were keeper size. Action with fluke was steady. Plenty of bait action in water (peanut bunker?) with weakfish underneath. Caught and releaded one keeper weakfish. Action with weaks was good on both sides of me.
