Weather Tomorrow is now looking iffy with big swell and the wind is not forecast to come down until the afternoon. Sat/Sun is still looking good but may be the last shot at albacore as the winds are forecast to blow again next week !! |

I have a Honda 130 hp outboard with 290 hours on my boat, How could I find out the value of it? I am considering going to a 225. I have my wife convinced that I could be home earlier from fishing if I had more horse power. Jim |

Weather/SST/Chlorophyll A little breezy today but tomorrow and friday are looking good. That plume up towards the CSM buoy has moved in to the 30 line and is pretty clean. Darby has bait so could be a good shot at the late season albacore. I wouldn't spend a lot of time trolling but instead be looking hard for signs ie; jumpers, birds, sauries and meter marks. This way you can cover a lot more territory and stop and soak bait when the signs are there. |

Looking for a dingy to make a light skiff out of. So long as it floats and won't sink with my genset, it'll work. That'll make bait a bit easier to get especially on moons like this. 772-1222 xt11. |

Good to hear that at least the albacore were seen. Any news on bait in MB for next few days? Like Harrell said that might be the key. Slow trolling jigs and plugs at around 5 knots can help in the late season... |

Trolled from the plume to just shy of the CSM Buoy for no fish.... Pulled in the feathers and ran to the shore not sure exactly where I was but the GPS said it was 58 miles north of Morro (hope that I wasn't in one of those MPA's). Anyway dropped in some fish traps for 3 quick limits of reds, lings and olives...big olives..... best ling was 30+ inches..... Nice way to end a bummer albacore trip.... Jim |

I think the fish were gorged, perhaps due to feeding under the full moon. the jumpers were decent sized fish 25# guestimate. there was more bait on the easterly side of the plume. Perhaps they may bite in the afternoon, we had to head back around 2ish.. live bait would probably help. |

The full moon did not appear to have much effect on this fish survey today , it was a little better than last week i think , anyway it was the last one for this year , looking foward to see how much change happens next year. Blackie/Sr |

Had another call from Stacey after he was in better cell range. They worked the south east edge of the break around 30/47. Saw tons of bait, jumping sauries and jumping albacore in groups of a dozen or so. It sounds like there might be some quantity of fish but not taking jigs. It has been my experience that these late season fish do not readily take jigs. Bait is is more productive and sometimes it takes a lot of chumming to get them up or to the boat. Deke has bait but tough to work out of PSL. I see the Harbor Commission is handing out awards but we can't get in the water or out of the water !! But this is another story for later that needs to be addressed. |

Fished the lighthouse area yesterday for limits of quality reds to 8 lbs & lings to 34". Don't know if we were fishing in a closed area or not. Didn't care. There was a commerical fishing 1 mi. W of us. Offshore winds 5-10 knots until about 1 pm then changed to NW @ 10 kts. Made for a easy ride home. |

================ PG&E DCPP Weather Forecast for Tuesday 10/23/07 =================== SEA/SWELL: This morning's 2 to 3 foot southern hemisphere (200°) swell (with a 14-16 second period) will continue at this height and period through tonight, remaining at 2 to 3 feet but (with a 13-15 second period) on Wednesday. The other wave train that is currently arriving along our coastline is a 3 to 4 feet northwesterly (285°) swell (with an 8-11 second period) which will continue at this height and period through Wednesday morning. Increasing northwesterly winds along our coastline will generate a 3 to 5 foot northwesterly (300°) sea/swell (with a 5-12 second period) on Wednesday afternoon, further building to 4 to 6 feet on Thursday morning. This northwesterly sea/swell will continue to increase to 5 to 7 feet (with a 7-11 second period) by Thursday afternoon and night, peaking at 6 to 8 feet (with an 8-13 second period) on Friday morning. A cut-off low will develop about 150 miles off our coastline by late Friday. This low pressure system will produce gentle southerly winds on Friday afternoon through Saturday. Without any northwesterly winds during this period, a 5 to 7 foot northwesterly (290°) swell (with an 11-13 second period) will develop along our coastline on Friday afternoon and night. decreasing to 4 to 6 feet on Saturday. This northwesterly swell will further lower to 2 to 3 feet by Sunday. Increasing northwesterly winds will generate a 2 to 4 foot northwesterly (300°) sea/swell (with a 5-12 second period) on Monday through next Tuesday morning. Preliminary analysis: A 4 to 6 foot west-northwesterly (275°) swell (with a 13-15 second period) is forecast to arrive along our coastline next Tuesday afternoon through next Wednesday. At this time, there are no major storms indicated in the North Pacific over the next two weeks. ATMOSPHERIC CONDITION: Another warm day is expected along our coastline today, before the northwesterly (onshore) winds kick in on Wednesday afternoon producing cooler coastal temperatures. Skies are mostly clear this morning across our area with plenty of sunshine, but smoke from the fires in Southern California may once again move over our area. The temperatures are running up a few degrees from this time on Monday morning and will reach the 80s and maybe even the low 90s by this afternoon. Winds aren't as strong as yesterday and should generally remain under 25 mph. The northwesterly (onshore) winds will return along our coastline by Wednesday afternoon with cooler temperatures and a few areas of coastal low clouds and fog. More widespread and robust cooling is forecast for Thursday as the northwesterly (onshore) winds increase along our coastline. Patchy marine clouds may develop along the coast as well. A cut-off low is forecast to develop off our coastline on Friday and Saturday with increasing clouds, mild temperatures and gentle southerly winds, but no precipitation is expected over this period. Temperature should cool to the upper 60s by Friday and Saturday with just some minor warming to follow on Sunday and Monday. Little change is then expected for the remainder of next week. DIABLO CANYON AIR TEMPERATURES: Diablo Canyon Meteorological Tower Air Temperature Data Yesterday's Today's Tomorrow's Min Max Min Max Min Max 58.1 83.3 62.2 87.0 58.0 67.0 PG&E San Francisco Met Office predicted temps: Inland Temperatures, Paso Robles Tue Wed Thu Fri Sat Sun Mon Wed 47 91 45 90 44 83 43 74 45 73 44 75 42 78 43 76 Inland Temperatures, San Luis Obispo Tue Wed Thu Fri Sat Sun Mon Wed 56 94 46 85 49 76 49 69 51 73 50 74 47 74 48 71 WINDS: Gentle northwesterly winds should develop this afternoon, before shifting back out of the north tonight through Wednesday morning. Gentle to moderate northwesterly winds will develop on Wednesday afternoon, further increasing to moderate to fresh levels on Thursday. Light to gentle northwesterly winds are forecast on Friday, shifting out of the southeast on Saturday, becoming light and variable on Sunday. Gentle to moderate northwesterly winds are forecast on Monday, decreasing next Tuesday. |

Hello fellow tuna hunters, Well, thngs have definitely changed for the worse. I started at the upper edge of the PSL buoy plume at greylight, worked down and out (and around) the area where yesterday's fish were caught, and never saw water above 59 degrees there. Kept working west, past the donut, and found a real nice 1.4 degree break to 60.6 degrees. There were some birds, whales, meter marks, big bait balls down about 100-200', but not a fish to be had. Paid extra attention to the gear, knowing it has been a scratch bite, but to no avail. Followed that temp/current break north, working both sides of it all the way to the elbow, for nothing. Sounds like everyone else struck out too. Jim G: save your fuel for another day and go north to get the good rockfishing in before the season closes. The wind was supposed to be light and variable this afternoon, but instead was 15 knots and capping this afternoon. If you wait til pm to rockfish, you may miss the good drift window. Good luck to anyone who goes tomorrow... hope you do better. Paul |

Well my tuna crew is not looking like they are going to make it and from the reports I think that I will pull the plug on the tuna trip for tomorrow. Have a couple of friends that I need to get out rockfishing so I think that we will head to Santa Rosa/ Miguel to take advantage of the weather. Good luck to everyone going out tommorow. Hopefully the weather will lay down next week and the water will move closer. |

Don't belive everything you hear. I have been in Wyoming elk hunting and the crew had trouble making bait. A dum a** surveryor was swining his *&%! around while I was gone and scared Marcos. IF there is any indication of albacore I'll make getting some bait a high priority. Right now I'm just trying to catch up on everything else. The Billy Boy needs a haulout badly but it'll hold out a few more months. I was hunting the upper Green River with a friend of mine who's been hunting the Wind River Range for 40 years. He just bought an outfitter's business so if anyone would like a great outfitter for Wyoming I'll get you his number. He's not in it for the money. Best hunting and fishing I've ever seen. Monster 340-370 class bulls and saw acouple 200+ bucks. I filled on the first evening and spent the rest the week tracking or playing fetch every time the other guys knocked one down. Went fishing too. Caught browns and the biggest cutthroats of my life. The locals said they were the little ones!! Beautifull, big country full of great people. If I suddenly dissapear, don't come looking for me around here. |

Still no albacore to report 1 pm. Jim G; Ragged point is at about 35:45 and the northern line for the reserve is at 35:42.85. This would put Ragged Point a couple miles north of the boundry for the reserve. If you stay above 35:43 you should be ok. The Sourthern end of the reserve is at 35:39.15 so if you stay below the 35:38 line you should be ok. |

Clark, I would recommend going to Mussel Point & Point Sal first, before you make the run all the way to Purisma. The fishing is very good there and it is 5-8 miles closer than Purisma. If the wind kicks up at all it will be a long ride home in that open bow! good luck if you go. best fishes, steve |

10 am Albacore report: Nada at the donut, nada at the SL buoy plume and nada at the elbow. Which leaves only the CSM buoy to be checked out. The water has really cooled off. Water that was 61 yesterday is 57 today !! You would have to go out beyond the 50 line to get 61 degree water this morning. |

Rick, Hallelujah on sharing information, especially with fuel prices the way they are these days. I was out Sunday before last, opted to run further North than the rest of the group, and was headed to a good skunking until someone got on the horn and shared coordinates where they were catching fish. We ended up with two fish from that area, and greatly appreciated the heads-up. Big ocean out there, and we all benefit by networking. Pete |

Jim G, My best answere to the direction question is, to take all the current informatiom available; like where the fish have been caught, the latest SST & Choryphil pictures, where fish in this area have been historicly caught, and follow definitive temp breaks, because that's where most of food source is for the tuna. Also, work together with the other boats out there, and share, because that is the quickest way to point the boat in the wright direction, and catch some fish. If this current Fire situation dosn't get in my way, I should be out there on WEnds. also. Try me on (68), if you get out there. Best Of Luck Guys, Rick/Tugfire 26ft Glacier Bay Cat |

Big ocean, few boats. Fire situation has me onshore. Looking at last night's SST, somebody might want to work the warm water at 35.20 & 122.00 and work down. Draw a line from those numbers and troll downhill toward Donut. Meter marks may be worth dropping on. |

Question for Tugfire and any others... I am off on Wednesday, What is your advice for running north to the CSM buoy? It has had warm water there for over a week. It seems everyone always goes south for tuna. Is there a historical reason for running south? Maybe I just like North for the easier ride home and the epic bottom fishing. I am scared that Wednesday may be my last crack at albacore and really, really do not want to go 50 miles in the wrong direction Any advice would be greatly appreciated Jim 805-610-4498 |
