It happens all the time when rock cod fishing.We will be drifting and someone gets just uphill and cuts off your lane back to the high spot.They will do it to anybody, party boat no different. Down south when an 8 ounce jig hit the side of your boat you knew you were getting too close to a PB.

I don't know if anyone fishing Pico creek today reads this board, and I doubt many of you would do this on purpose, but I watched a party boat get pushed off of the spot today and it happened to me last month. No, we don't think we own the ocean, but a little common courtesy would be greatly appreciated. If I ever push anyone off a spot, it means I have finally hit my breaking point and you have driven me to it. Fishing off the bow or stern is ok, but if you do not no which way the drift is going or just don't understand wind and current, just call the captain on channel 19 or 16 and ask. We drift quite a ways usually, and then go back up and get on the same spot. So if your boat is there when we go to get back on the spot, you have just high-sided us. This is a very shameless and unattractive way to fish. Once again, this is very different from sharing a spot where the fish are biting, which happens often and is useful to all participants.

Just picked up 11 dorado down here in Puerto Vallarta. My boat captain "Travolta" on the Yelloray was excellent, he works the boat and his brother owns it. Does anyone know the regs on alaska airlines for bringing fish back?
Thanks

The new SST shows the 60 degree plum about 35 mi west of us is still there so I plan on going Saturday morning. Still no word on the bait in Morro Bay. Last I heard they were out. Deke has bait at PSL. If anyone is running out from PSL and wants to share a little bait, I would appreciate it.

Wrong !
It was not clear this morning on the water and at 11:30 am the fog still has not lifted. John Lindsey said it should clear out this afternoon so still a good chance for an SST shot.

FYI; You may have seen the Reynolds Vacuum Sealer advertised on TV. I picked one up, not expecting much for $10 but was suprised that it really worked well.

Stacey;
It is clear this morning so we should get some SST and hopefully chlorophyll today. The last shot on the 30th showed a colder and broken up plume at the 20/30 area but we will see what it looks like today ?

What the heck does that have to do do with fishing?
This is another family that you have to deal with. the chances are are that it won't be a devildog helping you out with fish or trouble when going for LFT's.
Save the LFT hearts for me to eat!!!!!

Good morning boys, I'm back in the game. I just bought John's 26' Seaswirl and it is a dream boat. My old Searay was a money pit, dollars after dollars and would always find a new issue to deal with....just an old boat. Anyway, reading jim's post I want to throw out the same offer for Marines. This old Devildog takes care of his own so its an open invite, weather permitting. We had a great day fishing up north with Jim G on Sun. good quality fish. Looking to run again on Tues.

Just finished a great book that many of you might be interested in. It is "Bluewater Gold Rush" by Tom Kendrick. It chronicles the sea urchin dive industry in California in a very personal and cool way. I could not put it down, having many friends in that line of business in the 80's . I highly recommend it. Order books at bluewatergoldrush.com

We Fished Von Helm Rock again on Mon. It is South of the no take zone but is in the Marine protected area closed to Comercial guys. Von Helm is the big rock you can always see on the very South end of Cambria. There is a small blockhouse with an outfall tube next to it. Look for a small bouy just off of the Kelp bed and you are there. The bite was slow on Monday but we still took a dozen Rock cod and saw lots of dolphins. Weather came up and chased us off.

sorry for the lack of info! We did have a great trip though. left morro bay this morning at six to find clear weather and pretty darn good water. got a tip to go north around the abalone farm, so we headed that way and just picked a spot that looked good. as soon as our baits got down we got bit so i guess we got lucky. the bite was hot for about two hours and then cooled off a little, but we managed limits of nice reds and a couple lings with various others including one crazy fish that looked like it was wearing lipstick! thanks for posting. when i read this board its like i'm vicariously fishing through you guys.

I have not fished with the club boats as of yet , the timing is always wrong, but im gonna .
The club members are really getting into the YAK fishing , I think that there are at least 6 members that have purchased them , they are buying the COBRA FISH AN DIVE , I hear good reports , and they always catch lots of fish and some real nice size.

SAM ;
you almost have to have a fish finder or sounder , the numbers will give you a basic location but you have to stay over the structure to catch fish, otherwise its like a crapshoot.
The only other thing you can do is follow someone thats catching fish.

We went out of PSL today for rock fishing, there was enough water to launch us around 7:00 or so and picked-up some great bait from Deke, huge sardines and big anchovies, then took the flat but foggy ride to Mussel, Point Sal area. We did get our limits but we fished till two to do so. We just can't beat a day of out on the mighty blue.
Good fishing to all, sheryl

Didn't believe talk of fat lady. Went out yesterday and investigated the plume below CSM bouy. Saw great life and activity in 53 -54 degree water on the way in amoungts the floating kelp padddies.
Hit the 60 degree at about 25 & 29. Put lines in and continued out. Saw the water was changing and freqently dropping down into 58 and back to 60+. Went looking for better signs of life. Got to 23 & 58 for 61.5 water. Trolled down to 15 % 53 before calling it quits. Was out to 63 statute miles for NADA. Very little signs of life besides one big shark. Guess I should have rock fished yesterday.
