Any info. on fishing the Santa Barbara/Carpinteria area kelp beds would be appreciated. Will the ocean fishing there remain open thru out the year? Is the calico bass fishing still good there? What can be caught? Do they still get a Bonita run?

Bassattack,
You can't go wrong if you head north of Cayucos towards Estero Point and fish in 80 to 100 feet of water outside and above the abalone farm. You will notice a cluster of buildings on the bluff with a water outfall. Drift rockpiles that show up clearly on the sonar. Bait is great, but swimbaits and megabaits will work well also. You can expect reds, blues, olives, and an assortment of other bottom dwellers. It is a clean run home from there if the wind comes up. Have a great Thanksgiving and good luck with the fish!

We have used pacfic marine for all our repairs in the past , you will find paul honest and up front on all repairs , he is just a little picky on what he works on , no hondas or nissans products , likes johnson and evinrude, but as far as im concerned he is the best around, for outboard mech.

Curious if anyone has had any dealings with Pacific Marine, 331 Pacific St., SLO?

I walked by today after dropping the car off for a service and they were closed, called no answer? General hours of operation?

Peaked in a window and was quite surprised at the amount of stock.

Here you go Jim:

=========== PG&E DCPP Weather Forecast for Thursday 11/15/07 ================

SEA/SWELL:

This afternoon's 4 to 6 foot westerly (270°) swell (with an 11-17 second
period) will increase to 5 to 7 feet (with an 11-15 second period) by
tonight and will continue at this height and period through Saturday
morning.

Combined with this westerly swell will be 2 to 3 foot northwesterly
(300°) seas through Saturday.

An intense storm moving into the Pacific Northwest on Friday will
produce an at 8 to 10 feet northwesterly (285°) swell (with a 14-16
second period) along our coastline on Saturday afternoon through
Saturday night.

A 7 to 9 foot northwesterly (300°) sea/swell (with a 5-13 second period)
will develop along our coastline on Sunday and will increase to 8 to 10
feet on Monday morning, decreasing on Monday afternoon and night

A 6 to 8 foot northwesterly (285°) swell (with a 12-14 second period)
will develop along our coastline on Tuesday, decreasing to 3 to 4 feet
on Wednesday, and further lowering to 2 to 3 feet by next Thursday.

Preliminary analysis:

Today's surface charts indicate an intense storm developing off the
Kamchatka Peninsula and rapidly intensify by the 23rd of November.
If this storm develops, If could produce a significant swell along
our coastline by the 27th of November.

ATMOSPHERIC CONDITION:

The offshore flow that brought spectacular weather to our area over
the last few days will begin to come to an end today. Moderate to
fresh northwesterly (onshore) winds will allow the marine layer to
redevelop along our coastline tonight. Coastal low clouds and areas
of fog are forecast during the night and morning hours on Friday
through Saturday, resulting in cooler maximum temperatures across
most areas.

Strong westerlies carrying a series of storms into the Pacific
Northwest will finally shift eastward early next week, and high
pressure will amplify over the western United States. This condition
will produce a period of strong to gale force northwesterly (onshore)
winds on Sunday through Monday, followed by moderate to fresh
northeasterly (offshore) winds on Tuesday through next Thursday.
Current forecast models indicate that Thanksgiving Day is shaping
up to be clear and mild. Variably cloudy skies and dry weather is
expected for Thanksgiving weekend.

Fished San Antonio lake last night and today....

I fished hard for no fish.......However my 4 year old son caught an 8 pound striper vertical jigging a spoon in 60 foot of water.

Kind of like fishing the ocean..... did not catch anything till we saw birds hitting the water.

I watched a bunch of illegal aliens at the north shore launch ramp kick ass. It looks like the stripers have a bunch of, and I mean a bunch of bait stacked up there.... They were using shad and fishing from the dock...

If anyone goes up there.....take a shad net and freeline shad at the north shore launch ramp....One of the guys I talked to said that they were boiling at the launch ramp at 3:30 a.m. when he arrived..... I did not see a boil today but did get one hell of a strike using a Zarra spook near the damn...... also the damn area smells like sulfer so bad it will turn your stomach......

Good luck to anyone that may go. If anyone wants further advice call the house and talk to my 4 year old son.....He seems to have it figured out

Friends: Just a quick update on our friends down at Hurricane Bank on the Davis Boat Special on the Royal Polaris. This is taken off their web site:

Fishing today was sensational once again with action all day long. There was steady action on the kite and good steady fishing on the sardines. Most fish today were from 100 to 245 pounds with approximately 6 over 200 pounds. thirteen year old Zachary Schenk got a fish that was estamated around 175 pounds, almost twice his weight.

For a few folks one of the highlights of the day was a good bite on large Dorado. Our catch today consisted of 72 Yellowfin tuna, 37 Dorado, and 3 Wahoo.

We are planning to fish till 11:30 hours tomorrow and then head for home. The R/p crew.

Stopped by John Lindsey's office this morning and dropped off some smoked salmon, frozen Dorado and a couple of lobster to show my appreciation for the forecasts that he sends us. For anyone else that would like to give him some fish his office is in the PG&E Information Center just off the freeway at SL bay drive. They have a refrigerator/freezer so it can be dropped off even if John is not there.

Jim,
I fished San Antonio on Monday. Heard the same thing. We fished from 7 a.m. to noon. No boils...but there were some scattered fish rising for about an hour. We casted swim baits, zara spooks, hair raisers, poppers at them for not a strike. Fishing the day after the storm may have put the fish down...I hope they come back up for you.
Please post a report!
best fishes,
steve

Long Rangers, I your have too much fish to process when you return, I would be interested in smoking it for a share of the fish. I have a refridgerator sized all stainless smoking cabinet that is outfitted with a auto fed breckwell bisket smoke generator. I also have a pickle N rum brine recipe that makes and awesome smoked yellow fin. I will supply all the materials and do the smoking, you supply the YFT or other tuna you want smoked. The email that is in my profile is dead so post your contact info if you are interested.

Friends: A lot of our local boys are fishing right now on the Royal Polaris at the Hurricane Bank (3 full days south of San Diego). The trip is called the "Davis Boat" special. Mike Stanton is the trip coordinator. They had a great day yesterday. Here is a clip from the RP web site:

Our fishing today was absolutely phenomenal. We caught 84 Yellowfin tuna and 65 to 70 of these were from 100 to 195 pounds. We had 2 fish definitely over 200 and a few more that might make that number. We also had 17 Wahoo.

There were many 10 to 15 pound Yellowfin caught in the morning, most of which were used for chunks. I believe this is the first time I have ever fished the bank and not caught or seen a shark. Obviously we are hoping for another good day tomorrow. The R/p crew.

No picture yet ... but should be some tomorrow.

We drug the Alib Two up to Santa Cruz on 11-09 and 11-10 for 3 Albies on Friday, and 4 tuna and a Yellowtail on Saturday.
Fished 40 miles from SC.
Sloppy weather with a good sized south swell, mixed with the NW ground swell, made for wash machine conditions.
Fished the area below the weather buoy on Friday, didn't see much so we headed out and up and found some at 2:30 finally.
One fish sure feels better than none at 2:30. Picked up two more before pulling the plug at 4:00.
40 & 44 was the spot.
Went to the same general area on Saturday for better than average results.
Fishing was pretty slow for most, a couple of 2's and 3's, alot of zeros.
Long trip but it was nice to get some Thanksgiving chickens and tail.

I just returned from diving San Miguel and Wilsons area at the Channel Islands for Lobster and enormous Scallops ,the visibilty was 3' at Miguel and 100' at Wilsons! all the elements came together for a great dive, one of the guys found a school of reds at 150' and loaded his stringer in two minutes! The Truth aquatics www.truthaquatics.com is scheduling a lot of trips in November so if your a Diver, now's the time to go.

Bloody decks forever!!
