Hi guys , Happy new year . On jan first we went out to marina spot frm morning 8 for four hours . We were in all 4 forum guys . Would you belive only 1 fish landed . Nothing seem to bite . It was low tide . I had one big hit but could not land up the fish . And thts it . Did any one else have a nice time on the first day of the year . Please share . Want to forget this unevenful day completely. By the way the only fish landed was by chau and that too on a fly as he was doing fly fishing . And yes there was another philipino guy who got a fish with a hand line . He got a sheri . His technique was unique . he cut a plasic pipe and put it over his wrist and he threw the line after cirling it couple of times and really i saw this guy got good distance because the line went off frm his wrist like a real reel . I must say an unique discovery . regards pranab 0506789546 |

Rami, No i was using lures that create no drag on the dive board and i was still having problems. I think the board is simply defective because my previous one (that i lost) worked fine. Dave, Thanks for the tips! Gona try ballyhoo next time. Couldnt find my ballyhoo rigs last time I went so was stuck using lures. The guys fishing from the tankers and some of the locals seem to be catching the tuna deeper down though? I think they were using small silver spoons or something like that? What do you think? Do you think using teasers is neccessary while fishing round the tankers? Ian, Id like to help you out with the rubber band situation but its been ages since I last operated a downrigger! I dont think the rubbger band getting reeled into the reel is a big problem though? U can take it out when the fish has been landed and your putting the lures back in the water maybe?! Cheers! Apart from that need to get my out riggers ready aswell and get some new gear! |

Me again. I just wanted to share some nice spots in Dubai which i no longer fish since I learned about needing a license. Umm Suqeim/Jumeira 3. Just get on the beach and head to one of the many rock pilings that stick out in the water. I was killing small Barracudas all the time with a few nice Trevalys here and there. Had a few Hamour chase but not bite. Even had some mackeral looking fish on but my gear was too heavy and he pulled untill the hook tore from his mouth. All of these where had on rapalas and yozuris. No deep divers or you will be in the rocks. The trick is to give the lure a fast retrieve and to keep moving along the pilings and cover lots of water. Dont take to much time in one spot, a cast or two then move along the piling 10 feet or so. Also the Corniche before you get to Mamzar park is nice for bottom fishing. Shrimp/Dough/Squid are all effective. I have seen all sorts of fish pulled out of there, including a bucket full of needle fish that an Egyptian man thoguh would be good eating, hey maybe they are, i dunno. I had something huge take a shrimp and after 20 minutes of hopeless fighting I got spooled. The worst part was watching the jetskis cross over my line a dozen times thinking they would break it. I wonder what it was, maybe a giant Homour or Cobia, maybe a stingray. I saw a stingray catch a few feet of air there and from what others have told me they are common. I promptly upgraded the 15lb test line with 30lb test spider wire which I already had for somewhile but was lazy to upgrade it before. Big mistake. |

I forgot to share something in my last post. I was fishing at night in Sharjah on some small beach next to a huge radio antena with 30lb spiderwire and a 30lb test wire leader with a storm topwater plug and I got a bite. I tried to set the hook and nothing. So I reeled in the plug and it looked tangled as this plugs tangles on 50% of the casts. When i looked closely it was tangled, one of the treble hooks caught on the eye of the swivel at the top of the leader. Then I noticed that the leader had been cut clean through and if it wasnt for the fact that it tangled I would have lost the lure. I was wondering what kinda of fish can slice through 30lb test wire leader? Cuda? Shark? Tell me what you think. |

And Rodger, noice catch. i'll put that spot on my list for a future trip. looks promising thanks for sharing. Happy new year to all, KR |

Hello fellow anglers. This is my first post on the site. I caught this Cuda in Sharjah fishing from the rocks at the mouth of the canal next to Mamzar. It slammed a a large Rapala Jointed Shad. I was using 65lb test Berkley Big Game Braid (15lb diameter) on a Shakespeare Medium/Medium 7ft Combo. I use this setup up when I go monster hunting. http://s129.photobucket.com/albums/p229/abdullatifbinmansur/?action=vi ew¤t=Image004.jpg |

Bart, When you fish the anchorage at Fujairah you need to troll surface lures, like a williamson dorado catcher or skirt with dead ballyhoo combo. You can buy imitation ballyhoo lures at Knotika marine mall in Al quoz. troll at 7-8mph and cut right across the anchored tankers within 20mtrs of the bow or stern. You will have to try a few tankers before you hook up the dorado. for the small tuna simply troll a tuna muppett (small) close to the boat. You could attach birds in front of the lures so as to create more of a surface splash. for more info on the lures visit www.williamsonlures.com, they have a how to fish section. tight lines Dave |

guys the secret with the diving boards is to use a small lure max 18cm rapala magnum. Also make sure you have swivels at both ends of the board attachments and you leave approx 1.5-2m of line between the board and the lure. Don't troll more than 5mph. Hope that works. tight lines dave |

Hi Guys, I think I know what is the problem with the diving boards. are you huys using a deep diving lures attached to the boards? if you do, the diving lure will act like a fish hooked and pull on the board. The best way with the board is to use a bait that creat little or no pull. Hope this clears things out. Rami |

Hi again Bart, The lure I have had a lot of hits on is the Storm Deep Thunder - blue top / silver bottom. Diving depth is >10m and I have just been using them on a rod/reel combo. I have had problems keeping the line attached to the downrigger and still waiting to find someone who can help??? I am trying to work out how to use an elastic band without it interfering with the line when reeling back in???? Any suggestions would be highly appreciated and don't forget I will endeavour to put them on the website also. Oh and Bart please remember to mark your locations when you do catch and send them to me so I can add them to the fishing spots page ..... thanks And one last thing ........ HAPPY NEW YEAR EVERYBODY ...... and that is worth shouting about :-) Regards, Ian Harper www.fishemirates.com |

Ian, yeh i know the problem... for a start they pull like crazy so u need quiet heavy equipment to handle the bigger ones. Ive had some success using them with the ready made rig you can buy. but thats on a handline type thing. its very effective but hard to fish due to the pull of the board and the fact u have to use ur hands rather then a rod! All fish seem to love them though ranging from bottom feeging species like hamour, lizard fish or even spotted snapper (duno what the proper name is) all the way through to tuna and kingfish. the problem is they dont have metal leaders so cut offs are common especially by kings and cuda! so i take it your hits were on the normal blue silver lures u mentioned (yo zuri/rapala)? Did you use them on a down rigger or just normally? im still trying to figure out the fishing in fujeirah! not much luck so far especially at the anchorage. nothing from bottom fishing which is suprising. apart from that 1 small tuna on the dive board rig and lost a dolphin fish thaat hit on one of the poppers (but this was blind luck i think rather then using the right technique) If any1 has any tips for fishing by the tankers then please do share! info on methods, rigs and the dept i should be trying would be great!!! |

Hi Bart, Hmmmmmm Yo-zuri Dive Boards????? Next question...... I have tried them, but to no success as yet? Both times I have tried them the waters have been a bit rough and have not got them to stay down as i think the pull on the line in the swell acts like a fish bite? Could be wrong but don't know really. If anybody could explain how to use them properly I would appreciate it :-) Cheers, Ian Harper www.fishemirates.com |

Ian, Did u try attaching a lure to the yo zuri dive board? if so how does it work??? from what i thought if sumthing pulls the line behind the dive board, ie like a fish, it (the whole rig) rises to the surface? (like a Plainer?) or am i missing something? Thanks for any help! |

Hi Guys, The waters were a bit rough yesterday and after about an hour of getting thrown around like a toothpick in a kids bath we gave it up and came back in to the UAQ channel. We did catch one very strange fish which was about the same size as the storm blue/silver lure we were using? I will post a pic soon on the website and if someone can tell me what it is I would appreciate as I have never seen one before??? We did have another couple of hit but lost them due to the swell and the line become to loose?? I had one fantastic hit that nearly pulled my rod clear out of the rod holder and after about a 15 minute fight I lost it under the boat as the line caught the edge and she just went. She was a bloody good fish though shame I couldn't land it :-( Anyway might have to go and try again next week :-) Ian Harper www.fishemirates.com |

Hi All, happy Eid & xmas and great new year for all... i'm so happy i found this forum.. it's like my new year gift.. and the information/contributions are amazing so keep it up i've only been into shore-fishing so far, and only for few months in Dubai - been away from fishing for many years.. now happy return .. i'm also considering moving into deep-sea. so, pls: 1 - share the good shore spots.. they're amazingly scarce around Dubai.. used to go all the way to RAK to a great site that got cudas and seabream (shaam), but access was closed because of construction work - also tried the breakwaves at Hamreya,UAQ.. where else do you suggest? 2 - pls consider me if you're looking for a boat-partner: i still need to build experience of deep-sea fishing, but will learn fast. i'm also ready for the cost share. or if you can provide a pointer to a starting point to boat-sharing around Dubai, i'll highly appreciate it. thanks again for this valuable effort.. keep it up. Dear Ian , Use sky blue top and silver bottom yzuri rapala or silver rapala . Besides this red and white combination rapalas are also good for UAQ . If you are targetting king fish use half beak live which u can catch plenty and hook up at the tail and troll the exit of the uaq channel . In case of dive board yzuri has a orange coloured with are deep diving . I think for the depth you mentioned those will be useful . Happy fishing Pranab Dass 0506789546 |

Hi Guys (& Girls), I will be going out early morning (5am) from UAQ and plan to go about 15k's out and then follow the deep water ledge. It drops from 25m to over 32m. Will let you all know the result but a local guy has told me it supposed to be pretty good if you troll the bottom at around 4 knots and use a dive board and blue or silver lure and/or whole dead sardine or squid??? Will keep you all informed and will post all coordinates if we catch :-) Good luck with the cuda hunting Pranab :-) Tight Lines Ian Harper www.fishemirates.com |
