Subject: fishing news from cabo verde
2001 started with some surprises ; we just tried fishing earlier this year for blue marlin, and what nobody here could believe, because never tried before,we had many blues around in beginning of march. i would call a 4 hours fishing trip with 6 marlin-bites and 2 catches quite a excelent half day. this good fishing kept on. in june and july the numbers of marlin slowed down. that was unusual for these month, as we usually had allways good fishing during this period the past years. quite a lot of 100 lbs + yellowfin tunas showed up and the water was boiling with tunas hunting on the surface everywhere. we caught up to 4 tunas a day and had marlin and sailfish too. quite a few bigger size fish were caught and we released 2 grander-size marlin this year. the season still is not over and we will keep on fishing until end of october. tight lines to everybody and i hope to see some of you here in cabo verde next year, best regards, capt. berno |

Subject: fishing the cape verdes
the marlin season is comming to its end, but we still find a marlin from time to time. this year started with world-class fishing for blue marlin early in april with catches up to 11 marlin a day on one boat! lots of granders were hooked and we on the "HAPPY HOOKER" had the luck to hook 4 of them. we braught two to the leader, the other both broke the 80 lbs test lines. this year anyhow was the year of bigger size marlin in cape verde. we lost quite a few in the range over 700 lbs, as well as we caught some. yellowfin-tunas were caught regular as well as wahoos. some boats fished for tigersharks and caught a lot in the range of 300 lbs to 450 lbs. the biggest one this year was caught in april: 1150 lbs. last years record was set in november with a tiger of 1500 lbs ! we will move the HAPPY HOOKER to the island of SAL beginning of november, to fish there for the big tigers and for little big-game as there are wahoos, tunas and dorados. we will be back to SAO VICENTE in march to get ready for the comming marlin-season 2001, beginning in april. tight lines to all from the cape verdes, berno & the HAPPY HOOKER FISHING TEAM
