Yes, since my 5 months out here now, i am have become partial to a little Sheeeeeeeeeeesha, especially the grape flavour!!
Yes, we'll be participating at ATM, on the Abu Dhabi Tourism Authority stand and also on the IHG stand.
I will be there one of the days for a half day visit only so will make sure to visit you!

Syed - How are you doing bro? Regret to inform you that the things you had asked me to check were not available. i.e Power pro 65lbs bulk (1200-1500yds) braid (only available in 300yds),
No hollow braid available, The distributor of Penn had just wounded up thus no Penn Slammer 360 available and the Daiwa rod was not available also. The 950ss is available in a shop for about AED800(before discount).

Greetings from Frankfurt guys! I'm sat here in the exhibition centre with my company at a Travel show and it's dead so thought i'd hook to the wireless and check in with the "boys" of the fishing forum.

But having read the recent postings I must add my TWO BITS WORDS O WISDOM - please stop getting too techinical and suffer anxiety over gears and drags and centrifugal force, rockwell hardness, tensile strengths etc...la di da....(hehehehehe)
JUST ENJOY FISHING MANO.
Last night I went with my ferrari reel and my mitchel rod with gear ratio and drag all accounted for - and out came an old codger - white beard and and all - and he caught 4 cat fish. and i caught N O T H I N G ...teeheehee. That was bout 1.30 AM. Finally he came to me and gae me a whopper - bout 5 kgs to take home. Old guy Ive known for bout 7 years. And guess what - HE WAS FISHING WITH A HAND HELD WIRE....Bugggger.
HAHAHAHAHAH
tHAT reminds me ----when the americans spent about a billion dollars to invent a pen that could write upside-down in space to counter the effects of gravity on the flow of the ink, the russians simply used a pencil!!!! Yuppppeedippeeedooo.

I was trying to get one...but was totally out of stock in Brunei.
This will surely reduce the need of having to lubricate the knots with saliva to ensure its tightness.

I know about the okuma model you are mentioning .But would settled for shimano or daiwa as its a personal opinion that they are much ahead of okuma . I would really want to have a look at the popping and jigging rod . May be i cant buy it now as i am on a budget but why not looking . I think you wont charge me for looking at them . Eager to see them when ever you are free.

I would like to correct your statement. NEVER have I said that the Daiwas are having better drag ratings. I preffered the Daiwa saltiga dog Fight (6500DF) due to the very sharp look of the jet black body with the gold highlights.
On second thought, I might just opt for the 08 Stella which will be available soon both in Brunei and possibly here through Mr. Abbas of Baracudda.
When comparing reels, make sure you are comparing those within the same type. i.e one with low gear to another low gear reel e.g Stella 20000PG(power gear) should be compared to Saltiga Z 6500EXP(Expedition).
The gear ratio will not make much of a difference if fishing in shallow areas like here in the gulf BUT for bottom fishing in deep seas (like in Brunei) where there are trenches which are in the range of 500-700feet, even pulling a 5-7kg strong fish e.g amberjacks, (the ever so famous) GTs, Snappers etc...will give you very sore arm muscles....especially if using short and stiff rods which doesn't have much of flexibility.......as commented by all of my hardcore fishing buddies back in Brunei. Thus had decided (for the time being) to wait for the new 08 Stella 20000.
BTW got few stuff from Brunei which you might want to see.
1) Abu Garcia T-Pro 5600 C (light multiplier)
2) Abu Garcia 5600 C4 (light multiplier)
3) Eupro Salty Fighter SF602 rod for 1) and 2)
4) Ajiking Duo Maxx (one handle BUT with two (2) rods, one for jigging and one for popping...rated upto PE8!)

BTW, another reel which claims to have drag ratings upto a maximum of 99lbs!!!!! is the Okuma V System V65 and V80 which has 16 bearings!. You might want to check it out at Al Fajar Tackle.....please note I was about to buy one of these but later decided to "head straight" for the top of the line reels from either Daiwa or Shimano.
Two versions are available, high gear and low gear. V65sa will be the high speed reel compared to the V65a or V65. The "a" denotes that its the updated 07 model.

What ever i am posting today is none of my views . But i happen to get them from a fishing friend from kulalumpur . I DO NOT WANT TO HURT ANY ONE FEELINGS WITH THIS POST . I AM JUST POSTING IT TO SHOW ITS NOT ONLY IN THIS FORUM BUT EVERY FORUM AROUND THE WORLD IS A BUZZ WITH THIS TOPIC .
well, i have/used DF, EXP, 4500H and 20000PG, 10000FA, 8000FA & 5000FA.
Now i would say both Daiwa & Shimano are good in different catagories either in jigging or popping.
Belows are my setup:-
Jigging
PE8-10 = Stella SW20000PG - hold more lines 350m of Tuffline 80lbs - BIG Doggies, Samsons
PE6-8 = EXP 6500 - 350m of Tuffline 65lbs - proven on ~40kg sailfish
PE4-6 = Stella 8000FA - 300m of PE4 Ultra Jigman 8X + Tenryu 2-5...enough for Malaysian waters.
Popping
PE6-8 = Daiwa DF 6500 - Love the gearatio speed but little bit heavy for me
PE5-7 = Stella 10000FA - Just nice weight for me, max popper 150g
PE4-5 = Saltiga 4500H - Matched with my Kaibutsu which give me perfect balance for popper < 100grams.

ONCE AGAIN SORRY TO EVERY ONE WHO DONT LIKE THIS POST . Because i wanted to finish this debate of which one is better . Because both are good reels with few advantage of their own . But i also do understand these kind of posts makes readers at times bored . Because they look for pictures and catch reports . I am sorry to say i get so many pics from my finshing friends all around uae who were once part of this forum . They all write on thing in common . Pranab these pictures are for you . Please dont post in the forum . although i feel sad to read it , but my hands are tied not to write about them or to post them in the forum .
These reports and the pics of uae , oman and qatar catches are astonishing . I did request to these people to allow me to write about them or to post those pictures . But every time they came back in negative . So i had to respect their privacy . Finally amir please dont think there is any misunderstandings among the forum members . I do keep talking to every one on the phone . Its just i cut down my posts to make things calmer . May be this forum was going too fast about to touch 3000 posts . For a small city like dubai i think that is too much .
Another thing recently there have been some good forum members who joined , who are extremly knowlegable . So every one has to contribute to th forum with their expriences and point of view . That would make this forum a better place .

Thanks for your post . In fact i wrote earlier i am realising my mistake . I love fishing and that keeps me hunting for infomation . This part is ok . Next part i get excited to share it with my friends . This part is wrong .
For example : I wrote in the forum few days back the best drag is shimano 10000 . Few of my friends differed on that .
When i asked them why is it so there is no answer . When i asked what is the bais of drag measurement . No answer . Ultimately what i did i said sorry to every one . It seemed to me people will cool down if u say so .
But this is becoming a habbit of mine . I love this sport so i am trying to go deeper . I am trying to learn .
But in the process i cant irritate my friends here . Because i noticed when ever i am trying to listen to others its perfect .
But if i try to say shimano has the best drag then its problem . Well its my opinion . Like abdul has his cant i have mine .
But having an opinion over here is creating problem . Hence every time i get comments i am trying to put my views on others .
I totally agree i was wrong trying to tell people what i read . How can i come to this conclusion . There are guys over here fishing for 20 odd years .
So where ever i am wrong i am wrong . But that does not mean i have to agree to other people that daiwa drag is better than shimano . But at the same time i dont have to fight on this point .
Hence my apologies to every one . Well as most of you have met me and know telling sorry comes to me easily . What i have to crub now is posting what i am reading on the net .
This habbit of mine is not helping the forum . Its creating controversy . I should use the platform of this form to gain more knowledge from other. That would be perfect . Or in other words i should be a good listener . I think it would help me to learn more and be more knowledgable . So my future posts should be more humble rather than me misinformative .
Because neither daiwa nor shimano pays me for promoting them he he .

Don't worry about it man, we live in a free world and freedom of speech is a great thing. Just note that if you are prepared to post something that not everybody will agree with you. If everybody in life agreed with everything you or in fact i did, we'd all be robots and life would b pretty boring. It's natural to have difference of opinions.
In my opinion and i only met you once, you are a really nice guy with clearly a lot of passion about this new found sport for you and of course like everyone who has been fishing for years and years, you are still learning. I guess the feed back you are receiving from everyone on here is to perhaps read back through your post before you submit it to put yourself perhaps in the end readers shoes(the rest of the forum readers) to see how you would percieve/understand the post if you just joined the forum or in fact had more experience on the particular subject than that person and knew otherwise.
What you do to keep this forum alive is great and should in no way be discouraged as from my 4 months experience in this country, fishing is something that seems to be happening alot but there is very little resources out there to find out information and share tactics, tackle tips, fishing spots etc. For exmaple when i was looking to buy a fishing mag recently here in Abu Dhabi for Ijlal, i couldn't find one for the life of me yet in the UK, they are plentiful. I know if i asked one of you guys on here, i could probably get the info or as one of your recent posts pointing me to you tube, i now know that if i visit there i could probably find the information i need and see real life videos of what i want to know.
Again, we live in a free world with freedom of speech and if the forum members correct you on something, this is life and what makes us more knowledgable but if you are being corrected more than once on something, we owe it to ourselves to take note of the feedback related to our actions and correct.....hope you get what i mean pal.

It really seems what ever i write is upsetting people . So i would take your advice and keep quite for the time being .
Once again i am not forcing you to buy any reel . As you once said its your money so you should decide .
I just gave a information which was on japantackle.com . I am not taking any credit for posting them .
But i guess people here are bored with my informations . As season was moving away i was just trying to keep the forum lively . But anyways i have noticed when i told earlier stella 10000 has the max drag people dont seem to agree to it . I wont get an award by promoting stella over saltiga . Because both are good reels . And none of them are associated with me commercially .
Yes i know nick is the offical agent for accurate . But please go on a trip and find out what is being used on his boat .
But again these does not make any sence . I am not going . Its not my boat . So why should i be excited about it . Its a good question .
I guess because i like fishing so much . But anyways thanks for your sugession . I will bear it in mind . I have never ever asked any one to stop writing or being critical about their writing style on this forum . SORRY to be rude. Those prices were just to inform you on their availabilities & prices here as you had shown interests in those reels. DO YOU THINK I would ever buy them?
Btw please stop copying infos on the web and posting them here........the very thing we had tried to tell you to STOP doing.
I had checked both in Singapore as well in Malaysia(NOT malay), the Stellas and Saltigas are out of stock in Singapore but not in Malaysia BUT at much higher prices.
Just spoken to the dealer here who had seen and previewed the 08 Stellas. They will be lighter but rated at lower max drag ratings compared to the 07 models.
Seen and held the Ishidais(Z40 and Z30) and a friend of mine just bought one. Just not up to my liking.
Nick of ocean active will be using Accurate reels as he is the appointed dealer.
BTW ALSO,my Shimano Jigwrex coupled with my Shimano Navi or my Daiwa Opusbull should be able to handle anything up to 40lbs......when referring to the spec sheets which I got when buying them.
FYI, got few more stuff. Like I keep on reminding you, try not to be judgemental.
Take it easy buddy. Try to control your excitement.
FYI ALSO, already got a fair selection of jigs, although not as many as that of Chua.

Hi abdul ,
I forgot to mention , do you have a good conventional reel . I think with isidai z you can do good jigging . If you dont have anything else this is also a good reel . Hehe why i tell you when you will get bored and want to sell i can try to grab it .
Its good for casting too they say 100 + you can get the distance also . Think about it if you are not getting any other reel .

All the reels you mentioned are good . But honestly if i were you i would wait for the new saltiga to be out as they are better than the old ones . I followed up the japanese website which udu gave here in the forum .
For me i wont be buying these kind of reels every day . And i want value for money and a durable reel .
STELLA AND SALTIGA i think they are the two who claims who is the market leader . Its a personal preference .
If i were you and had the money to go for i would go for saltiga dogfight . Reason simple its more tobust , and its lighter . Secondly i would have tried to use it for jigging as i really cant afford another reel just for that purpose . Its true its with higher gear ratio but i would settle down with that .
The difference that i noticed are STELLA better handle grip then saltiga dogfight . And for sure its more smoother than saltiga .
But then saltiga is lighter and needs less TCM . And its my personal preference as i think it can be better used for jigging compared to stella as its little heavier .
I remember at one point of time i argued with you about this point . But as one goes deeper into the subject and follow logics preference might change .
And you know very well i dont have any kind of ego to take back my word or change my point of view , if i find i was wrong .
As it told learning something deeper makes a man richer . Budyy but my request to you dont buy any of the reels presently available . Better wait . I think give some advance and tell them when your preferred reel comes in stock to let you know , so that you can get it through some one travelling from brunei to dxb . By the way i found some thing related to GT I hope every oen would enjoy that .

Before i end about the rod thing i am not so sure if you can jigg out a GT on ur setup . May be it is possible . But when ever i have seen i see anglers using longer rods which can throw min 200 gms poppers and more .
Do you think your jigg rod is capable of doing that . Anyway i think the best thing is as you suggested to go your self and find out the reality your self . Hey by the way chua and you are on the same trip i guess . And i know its nick boat so dont worry about rods . They would give you top of the line rod and reels . He has got the rods that i mentioned and i know he uses STELLA 20000 . So dont worry if you dont get the reel now in brunei . As it is season would be out next month .

Thanks for the offer to lend me the reel BUT I won't be needing it. Btw, which Okuma rod? If you are talking about the trolling rod you gave me, IT WAS A TROLLING ROD meant to be used with a conventional reel NOT a spinning reel. As far as jigging is concerned, already got enough gears.

I totally agree with you on the best gears being broken due to wrong drag handling . But let me tell you the boat in which you would be going is nicks boat . He is the most experienced fisherman in the mussandam . I think no one doubts his ability in those waters .
And i want to tell you SMITH KEYOLHU GTK 77BG was broken by him . So just no comments this time .
I mean i dont want to force any one to believe me . Go there buddy and feel the adrenalin pump yourself . Thats all i asked . Right now i told you i dont have that kind of funds to take out this venture in the mussandams .
I am really excited to get the report from chua and his teams report from the mussandam trip which is upcoming next .
By the way if ijlal had been here he would have vouched for me that me and him were planning a trip in a normal boat in the mussandams sometimes end of this year when weather cools down and he would be back on his feet .
We spoke to each other that as lot of guys on the forum wont agree with our ideas so we would go with below mentioned gears .
ME : PENN 950 SS AND A PENN SLAMMER .
IJLAL : BG 90 AND A PENN SLAMMER .
And i think every one knows how cheap are these gears . So all of you who thought i was only talking about expensive gears , let me tell you i just did not want any one to come back dejected breaking gears .
On the contrary we were taking that risk . Now dont get on this point that how do you know we would hv broken gears as we are more experienced than what you are .
Yes all of you are more experienced as far as sea fishing is concerned . But to end this controversy i have taken back my words in totality and left it to peoples real life experience . I wish all of you to have a sucessful GT hunt in the mussandam who are going this year before closure of the season .
Hope that is acceptable to every one here . And by the way dave i look forward to meet you sometimes . You had not met me even . How do you say i am very egoistic .

Hi guys ,
Yesterday me amir and his friend ali who is new to uae went for fishing to four spots . Sharjah opp of mamzar , sharjah canal , sharjah gold souk bridge and finally to makhtoum .
We did get fish all the places but nothing much to be spoken of . With the exception in the makthoum . It was really good there with the return of the sheris . Yes lot of hits and lot of hook ups .

Dear rami ,
I think i am the guy who posted first that the angler behind the rods and reels is the actual thing . So i dont disagree with you .
I think i also agreed with ijlal about penn and BG 90 . I also told that these gears are having a market of their own . And i also gave examples who can afford what .
They why it is i am being targeted this time . Secondly very good question how many of the anglers have these equipment .
Let me ask first how many of us went out there . As far as i know none of us . Then who went there . Nick , udupa ,riche and a bunch of french guys .
And did i say also udu and jean was awesome with their wodden boat catching them . Last but not the least why i wrote such a post .
Reason i dont know for others but i felt most of the guys over here would dream to go to mussandam and go after the GTs . And its reality to pay 4000 DIRHAMS odd is no mean money for a boat .I mean driving a boat to 80 miles near kichulu islands in this summer heat . I did not want people come disappointed and dejected . Because who ever goes there saves the money and goes there . I think i made my self clear . I did not degrade any one fishing ability . On the contrary i congratulated people .
Lastly so the guys who went there . Please i would request you guys who are trying to say i am writing crap here please get in touch with them and listen the reality . I always have told for me its a learning cruve . And i love talking about fishing . But in that process if that hurts any one i never want that . I am sorry to every one on the forum if my last post did that .
My only request people who dont agree with me in their opinion should wait , go themselves , experience and then they can definately put forward their opinion .
Most importantly if they have to go there they have to go to one person . Nick of ocean active . People who are not agreeing with my opinion can i them to verify these facts which i had put forward .
Lastly dont think i am trying out to be a master fisherman by these posts . Because i am not . I have very very less seafishing experience .
Please once again i am sorry for this post . I take back all these words before you guys go out over there and see the reality .
But if i go to this area i would like to go prepared . But i am not asking any one to do as i will do .
By the way abdul if you had not got any perfect reel from brunei you can take my penn 950 SS for the mussandam trip and use it with my okuma rod . I hope that works for you .

I won't get out this weekend as i'm off to Germany all next week. I know one thing, my skin will be better off for not going out, for the last week my back has been peeling like a crab..... as i keep forgetting to put on sun cream and those of you that have met me will know that being from the UK, my skin is not used to these temperatures....he he he typical of us brits, we see some sun and off goes the t-shirts and then we roast up red like a lobster!! He He He
So....anyone catch anything this weekend?
