SUNDAY11-5-06
OK, I'm back. Where have I been? Well, again we had a "bug" hit our computer, this time we had to call the "Computer Doctor". And yes, I lost all my e-mails that I was fixin' to answer and everything else, AGAIN!!!!!

So, if you will, please just shoot me another email if I didn't get yours answered and I will get back to you ASAP!!!!

On the fishing scene, the King Mackeral bite is hot in the 15 to 25 mile areas. Even been some Blackfin Tuna's mixed in and caught too, sure glad to see those around.

Went over to the piers yesterday and the fishing was slow, but, that was yesterday and today it could be hot. Give them a call, they will tell you what's happening. Be sure to tell them where you got their phone number. YAUPON PIER (910)278-9400 and OCEAN CREST PIER (910)278-6674.

We have another new sponsor now. They are BONE YARD BAITS from Homer, Alaska. I have some lures that I will be debuting at the Saltwater Shows in Greensboro and Raleigh. There has never been anything like these to my knowledge ever used on this side of the USA. They should prove to be real good for Gulfstream Fishing. I expect them to also be really good for the Bluefin Tuna Fishing. And, they should be a hot item for deep jigging for "BIG" Grouper. I don't plan(at this time) on selling these, I was asked to be the East Coast Distributor, but, I really don't have time for that(at this time), but, I will use and promote these lures for BONE YARD BAITS and hopefully they will be available in local tackle shops before long. Stop by our booth at the shows and let me know what you think of them!!! Your input and feed back is very important to us!!! Till next time, FISH ON!!!! Capt Butch. www.yeahrightcharters.com

FRIDAY10-27-06
As the old saying goes, "what a difference a day can make". Today we were with Joel, Brent, Bruce, and Aaron Somero along with them were good friend David Samuelson. We were supposed to do a full day trip today and I was going to cancel, but, the guys wanted to fish some, so, I advised them that it was not supposed to get bad until later that day and we could stay close in and do some fishing. I let them know the outlook wasn't too good with the weather we had to work with, but, everyone wanted to do what we could.

The strong front that was approaching had definately messed with the fishes minds and equilibreum. The bite we had the day before had been blown away with the winds that had roughed up the water from the day before that was flat calm to a good 2 foot chop this morning.

OK, we are going to try it until the swells get to 3 feet, then we are out'ta here I said. Everyone agreed. Suprisingly, we were able to fish longer than I figured we would. But, the bite was definately slowed way down by the low pressure. We caught a big lizard fish, and we promptly deployed it on a downrigger at 25 feet. We had not trolled it too far when something big tried to tear the rigger off the boat. It stayed deep like a tuna would do. Brent was the man on the rod but it didn't last too long, the fish proved to be just too much for the 20 pound class king mackeral tackle we had him on!!! We will never know for sure what it was, but, we do know it was "BIG" and "HEAVY".

By this time the seas were cranking up and we moved back inshore to a live bottom area, here, we also found the fish to be a little lethargic. After moving up and down the live bottom that is a ledge that runs to the east, I finally found a few fish.

We were catching some Black Bass that would have been keepers just a week ago, but were now a 1/4 inch short of the new size limit, along with those we were catching a few bluefish, some sharks, Aaron caught a real nice flounder,(in which I forgot to get a picture of), maybe they will email me one!! But, again Brent was the "rod man" when the big red drum hit. We all thought it was a big shark since we had caught several but when it came to the top it was a 60 inch red drum, which I estimated at 45+ pounds, we did get that picture, since it was too big to keep!!

Guys, we did the best we could today with the weather we had to work with and had to call it quits around lunch time. The seas didn't want to cooperate past mid day, maybe we will have better weather next time, don't think it will be any worse, unless there is a hurricane!!! Till next time, FISH ON!!! Capt Butch and "Private Bodie" the fish dog says, what was my final score for the "swan dive" I did off the transom!!!! www.yeahrightcharters.com

THURSDAY10-26-06
Today "Private Bodie" and I were in the great company of some local fishermen and fisherwomen. We had with us today Kim Ann Russ, that's right, the Kim Ann Russ from Southport reality, with her we had the "birthday girl" Jane Astoske, who told her age but I don't think she looked a day over 20, with those girls were Kai Nielsen, and Kid Caison.

We started off on a King Mackeral mission and found some at the Shark Hole and Coral Bottoms. The bite was not on "fire", but, it was steady most of the morning. As with all fishing, some of the fishermen had put together the right combination of colors along with the preferred trolling speed, you know, all the "right little things" that make the difference, while others were just "picking" at them. We would have limited out if we could have kept all that hit on the hook. But for various reasons, several were "quick released" to fight again another day.

We got all we wanted by lunch time and we went bottom fishing. the bottom fishing was a little tougher. The new size limits that went into effect this past Monday has made keeper size fish a little tougher to come by. But, we kept moving and moving until we found a school of fish that were keeper sized and wanted to bite.

We were catching Triggerfish, Spanish Mackeral, yeah, Spanish Mackeral on bottom rigs, I would say there were several where we were at,Black Bass, and of coarse, we were catching some sharks. But, I must say that the fun really began when a big school of Bluefish moved in. They were catching them two at a time as fast as they could drop down, and quite a few were good size fish.

Kim, Jane, Kai, and Kid I hope we met and passed your expectations of what you expected on a fishing trip!!!, I know that Bodie and I enjoyed fishing with y'all!!!!! Till next time, FISH ON!!! Capt Butch and "Private Bodie" the fish dog says HI!!!. www.yeahrightcharters.com

SATURDAY10-21-06
I cancelled Fridays trip due to the winds, but, Saturdays forecast was for 10 to 15 out of the NE with 2 to 3 foot seas. Well, lets see, 10 to 15 if you add those together, that's 25, throw in an occasional 30 knott gust, OK, that's pretty close. Now, let's see 2 to 3 foot seas, if you add those together you get 5, throw in an occasional 7 to 8 footer, yeah, that's pretty close too!!!

OK, that's enough picking at the weather forecast, we are all only humans, and we all do and will make mistakes as long as we live here on earth. So, we had to make the best of what weather we had to work with.

We decided to go fishing because the forecasted NE winds at 10 to 15 would have the beach laid down and we were looking for some kings, grouper, and bottom fish, which are all now in reach closer to the beach. We had another group of fishing guys from Fayetteville, NC. These were Troy Ham, Marquail Flemings, Mark Flemings, Kerwin Steele, and Vic Impemva.

As we reached our first destination, the Shark Hole, we were greeted with high winds and high seas. We and the weather made it there at about the same time. We were there and was going to have go back in a 5 to 7 foot head sea, so we decided to make the best of it and it might possibly lay down some later that evening, Wrong!!! Hey, it's the weekend, isin't it supposed to blow on the weekends?

We started off bottomfishing and light lining. The current was running strong, real strong, this made it hard to grouper fish and bottomfish, but, we managed to put some fish in the boat. Troy Ham caught his first grouper ever, even though it was too small to keep, he said that's fine, I have always wanted to catch a grouper. Don't ask him about the other three he hooked up with and liked to took the rod out of his hands before they broke off!!

Also, while bottom fishing, a small school of Mahi-Mahi came by the bost, I grabbed a spinning reel baited with a cigar minnow and pitched it to them. They would look at it and turn away. I pitched it back out and as they run up to it and started to turn away, I reeled it as fast as I could and that was more than they could stand. One of them charged the bait and hit it in a mad rage. We left it in the water, but, after a bit, we never seen the rest of them again.

Marquail was the rod man on the dolphin, this guy handled the rod that was loaded with light line like a pro. He and the mahi-mahi went head to toe for several rounds back and forth and on both sides of the boat, later, I was very impressed that this was his first time fishing in the ocean on a boat. You couldn't tell it by the way he handled that Mahi-Mahi!!! I will have to say that I believe he is a great fisherman headed for many more great days on the hi seas!!!

The kings were biting today, as we heard from other boats on the radio. They were not "on fire" by no means, but they were catching some. We never got the first king mackeral bite on our lite line, we did get several sharks on it though!! The King we caught was on a Drone spoon we pulled as we moved to different spots to fish, too rough to run fast, so we fished while we were moving!!! The bottom bite and lite lineing included today, Black Bass, Grouper, Bluefish, Flounder, Grey Snapper, Mahi-Mahi, King Mackeral, Sharks, eel's, Ringtails, Pinfish, and Lizardfish.

All in all, we had a great day on the water fishing. The weather was not like what we would have preferred, but, you have to sometimes make the best out of what you have, and today we did just that. We caught fish, exchanged some fish tails, talked about past fishing trips, told some jokes, had a lot of laughs, got some lines broke, had some fish get off, put some fish in the boat, and just had another great day of fishing with some more of our customers that have become our friends through fishing!!!!!! Now, can you improve on that, I don't think so!!! Check out the pic's on my site. Till next time, FISH ON!!!! Capt Butch Foster and "Private Bodie" the fish dog says, WOW!!!! those were some big waves!!!!! YEAH RIGHT SPORTFISHING CHARTERS Southport,NC. (910)845-2004. www.yeahrightcharters.com

SUNDAY 10-1-06
Can you believe it!!! October is already here. And this month means great fishing along the Southport, NC beaches, and today was no exception.

We left South Harbour Marina with Willie Spivey and his son Alex, along with Brandon King, James McNeill, Alvin Chriscoe, and Gene Turner from Asheboro, NC.

We decided since the King Mackeral bite had been so hot the day before that we would just go out and load up on those and then go bottom fishing. Let's see, isin't there some kind of saying about counting chicken before the eggs hatch or something like that, well, it should pertain to fish eggs. Every one was finding that the King bite from the day before had vanished. There were some being caught but pale in comparison to Saturday.

We started at the Shark Hole, the bite there was slow, I did see one boat hook up with a fish, don't know what it was, it pulled the hooks before they could ever see it. There was very little bait there. Left there and went to the 18 mile rock, same scenerio, 22 mile rock, same thing. I decided to head to the Gary Ennis, on the way out, we decided since the King fishing was so slow we would try bottom fishing.

First stop the Vermillion Snappers were biting like bulldogs. The guys were pulling in 2 to 4 pounders as fast as they could get to the bottom. Next thing we knew, we started getting only the heads in. Sharks and 'Cudas moved in and took over, And just as I would have done, the Snappers left!!! We moved to several more places only to find the bottom fishing to be slow also. I went to place to place in my search and marked plenty of fish but they were reluctant to bite.

We decided to call it and head in. As I was cruising back towards the Cape Fear, I told Willie I got one more place I want to check. I haven't fished it in a couple of years, it has always been my "Ace in the hole" so to speak. I altered course about 30 degrees and set out for my "hot spot".

Upon arriving, The fish were there, now will they bite, or be like the other spots. It has been a good while since I got my fishermen into Black Bass that were biting like these were. Two at a time as fast as you could drop and crank them up!!! It was no time until we had a five person limit of Bass in the boat and these were the big ones. There is no telling how many smaller ones we threw back. Not only that, the guys pulled two nice Flounder off the spot and limited out on Atlantic Sharp Nose Sharks at the same time.

I must say, I tryuly thought that today was going to be one of those days that I was going to be ashamed to report on as far as the catching is concerned, but again, perserverance and the drive to not give up paid off once again.

Oh yeah, Alex, who is 8 years old, well, I won't tell you put right about all the big fish and big sharks he caught, but, I would like too tell him to be sure he doesn't spend all those guys money at one place. He did so good, I even paid him also because I was on the boat!!!!

Willie, It has been a while. Seeing you again brought back memories of the old Striper fishing days on Badin Lake. Thinking back makes me realize how fast time on this earth is slipping by. Hope to see all of you again soon!! Hope everyone had 1/2 as much fun as we did!!! Check out pic's on my site!! Till next time, FISH ON!!! Fished today with Jason and Larry Blackburn and Reverand Roger Radcliff from Pikeville, Kentucky. We started off looking for King Mackeral. The first stop was at the South 40. We put the lines in and in short order we had a King Mackeral screaming the drag. Then we had another run, missed him, had another, missed him, then missed a few more and had several short strikes. We thought we had found the "mother lode" of Kings that have been so elusive for so long!!! Don't ever think you have fishing figured out, it will bite you!!! Then the bite for us and the other boats that were there just quit. We had King Mackeral "skying" around the boat with bait fish in their mouths, but, our baits were not to their liking, so, we quit trying to figure them out and went bottom fishing.

Now, the bottom fish are biting. We caught Black Bass, B-Liners, Triggerfish, Yellowtail Snapper, Grey Snapper, Silver Snapper, Grouper, and sharks. If you see Jason ask him about wishing for a big fish and what can happen. He wanted a big shark all day. We were getting ready to call it a day around 3:00PM that's when it happened. Jason got a bite, then nearly 3 hours later, he had his big shark at boat side for a photo shoot. Congrats Jason, we were glad you were able to get your shark fishing with us.

Fishing tales and memories made again today!! I THANK YOU, all the men and women of the armed forces for keeping our country free so we can have the opportunity in this country to do what we want to do and I THANK the LORD for giving me the health and drive to do what I do and I THANK all the fine folks that have chose us to fish with, MAY GOD BLESS YOU ALL!!!! Till next time, FISH ON!!!! Capt Butch Foster and "Private Bodie" the fish says, man, I got a workout today, where did all those fish come from???? Check out the pic's at www.yeahrightcharters.com

My report is running a little late today. Had a 1/2 day trip, but, when I got back I worked the rest of the day until 11:00PM on a new windlass that I just put on the boat. It is a shame that you have to pay an arm and a leg for items like these then have to machine out parts to make them work right. Guess I should be thankful that the Lord gave me the talent to do these kind of things, and I am!!!!

Now, to the fishing. We left South Harbour Marina this morning on a 1/2 day trip with, Richard Turner, Cerrie Turner, Lisa Ramirez, Marro Ramirez, Gilberto Cruz, and Julueta Cruz. We dropped the Spanish Mackeral lines in at the Hot Hole where there were a few birds diving. After a few circles, it was evident that they either were not there or if they were, they were not biting.

I kept watching and saw nothing that represented a Spanish Mackeral or the bait fish that they would feed on. OK, time to go to plan "B". You don't have a lot of time to put it together on a 1/2 day, especially when the water is as dirty as it is right now. However, it is clearing up, the cleaner water is getting closer to the beach day by day.

I asked if they wanted go to some rocks I have about 8 miles out and see if we can get some bottom fish, they did, so we did!! As I pulled up to the rock ledge, the fish were stacked up. I dropped anchor and immediately they started hauling in some nice grey trout, some mixed sizes of Blues, and a few Black Bass. Even hooked up a few sharks.

Just as it started it stopped, the fish were there but the bite turned off. I checked my tide watch and sure enough, the tide had gone slack, dead low, and that usually means the bite will shut down until it turns again. But, only problem, when it turns today, we will be already back at the dock!! We still picked up 1/2 a cooler of fish, more than likely a whole lot more fish than we would have had if we kept on Spanish Fishing!!

Today, we were able to put the puzzle together. What's the saying, "Someday's you get the bear, and someday's the bear gets you". Thankfully, we have managed so far to stay one step ahead of the bear!!!

The arrival of the grey trout is a sure sign that the fall fishing is about to kick off. So, if you have been to busy to go fishing yet, you have just been too busy, it's time to go!!!

In closing this report, I would like to share a suprise with you that I recieved the other day. I was at dinner, and the phone rang, and I answered it as usual, but, on the other end was George Poveromo. Now George is the man at SALTWATER SPORTSMAN MAGAZINE that does articles for the magazine, he also has a Saltwater Fishing Show on ESPN, plus, he heads up the SALTWATER SEMINAR SCHOOL that travels the country each winter teaching people how to fish. I have been honored by being invited to join their seminar sessions this year and I have accepted their offer.

And with this invitation I must thank all the people that has made this possible, for without the blessings of the Lord, and the people that I have had the honor to take fishing, this would have never been possible. THANK YOU ALL for fishing with us and the comments that you put on our "Guestbook". As I have said before, "without all of you, what I do would be useless" THANKS AGAIN!!! Till next time, FISH ON!!! Capt Butch and "Private Bodie" the fish dog says, Man, I sure love them trouts!!!! YEAH RIGHT SPORTFISHING CHARTERS, Southport,NC (910)845-2004 www.yeahrightcharters.com

Today we finally were able to get back offshore. It wasn't the calmest day I've seen, but, it wasn't too bad. Mostly in a big swell. We had one of the crews from Washington, DC with us today and when we left the dock they said we want to catch some grouper. So, off we went to the East side with, Reuben McNair, Clifford Stone, Rev. John Myers, Donald Stancell, James Hunter, and Samuel Cole.

Upon arriving at the first grouper rock, they were there!!! We got the boat anchored on top of them and only had to move a couple more times all day. We caught Grouper, Reds, Scamps, Gags, we also got Triggerfish, Grey Snapper, Amorings,(Amoco Jacks), B-Liners, Silver Snapper, Bigeyes, Sharks, and we hooked some BIG sharks,Black Bass, Porgys, and be sure to look at the BIG Hog Nose Snapper that Clifford Stone caught, I wasn't sure just who was going to win that battle, but Clifford came out victorious!!!

Finally, after two weeks of being landlocked, we got back offshore, and I think we started off the weekend pretty good. I bet these guys won't have to be rocked to sleep tonight, they stayed busy all day. As always, another good day of fishing with some great guys!!!!

Got a 1/2 day tomorrow, we will see if the inshore bite has gotten any better!! Till next time, FISH ON!!!! Capt Butch and "Private Bodie' the fish dog says, Check out the pic's on my site!!! YEAH RIGHT SPORTFISHING CHARTERS, Southport,NC (910)845-2004 www.yeahrightcharters.com

SATURDAY,8-26-06
Today the saga continues!!! We picked up Larry Housand, Kyle Saburn, Gary Saburn, Chris Pruitt, and Eddie Hollifield, and again we were cursed with a ENE wind. This is the "fish bite stopper" wind here in Southport,NC. I don't know why a E wind "turns them off" but, it does. Maybe someone can enlighten me on this, I have my theories, but that is just what they are, my theories!!!

As we were leaving the dock, I called Capt. Buster on the SEAHAWK III and he said the Spanish Mackeral were biting so we decided to try for a few of those. It wasn't long before we spotted a school up on top chasing bait out of the water, then it wasn't long before the long awaited call of "FISH ON" was heard!!

We were picking up Spanish on a regular basis then the decision was made to go bottom fishing. I knew that my work was "cut out" for me from that point on!!! Remember, I said in the beginning, "The saga continues" we were still dealing with an East wind. The first several places we hit revealed real slow action. We had to get to deep water, so I headed South, this way I would have a little trough to come home in this evening!!

We couldn't go to our regular places due to the time we used Spanish Mackeral fishing, but we ran out to 80 feet plus water and here Larry Housand found himself hooked up with a real nice Gag Grouper to go with the Spanish Mackeral that were caught earlier. They also added Black Bass, Grey Snapper's, and some good size B-Liners

Another good day on the water, although it was a little rough, we had a good time with some more great people. I am very fortunate to be able to do what I do and get to meet so many Great people, you know they are great before you ever meet them, how could they not be? They are fishermen and fisherwomen, need I say more!!!! Till next time FISH ON!!! Capt Butch and"Private Bodie" the fish dog says, I had to rest today, two days in a row is hard on my little bones!!! YEAH RIGHT SPORTFISHING CHARTERS, Southport, NC (910)845-2004 www.yeahrightcharters.com

FRIDAY 8-25-06
Today we were fishing with Billy Owens, Fred White, Albert Craig, and Joe McMillan. Our destination this morning was to start in the 350's and work our way to the 360's. The bite was tough and staying on the fish was even tougher with the building NE winds that were predicted to be 5 knots and variable, "YEAH RIGHT"!!!! they were more like 15 to 20 steady!!

But, just the same, we found some fish and kept aggravating them till they bit. Our creel today consisted of Grouper, B-Liners, Black bass, Grey Snapper, Triggerfish, and some sharks!! We even had a few fish hooked that we couldn't turn or stop, some acted like Big sharks and some acted like Big Grouper!! All we can tell you for sure is that what ever they were, they were more than the electric reels could handle!!

Although we didn't have the numbers of fish we usually have, we all still had a good trip, and these guys are always a pleasure to fish with and we always have a good time, Thanks for the memories!! Till next time, FISH ON!!! Capt Butch & "Private Bodie" the fish dog says HI!!!!. YEAH RIGHT SPORTFISHING CHARTERS, Southport,NC (910)845-2004. www.yeahrightcharters.com

MONDAY, 8-14-06
OK, I'll admit it, I got lazy and didn't put yesterdays report on last night. In fact, after the day we had, I was too tierd to put it on last night. So, i'll see if I can get caught up here.

We had the pleasure and honor to be able to fish again with Joe Davis and Terry Goyer from Toronto, Canada. We went after Grouper, bottom fish, and what ever else would bite!! We went on the East side and were greeted at our first stop with Grouper, black bass, Grey Snapper, Sharks, "BIG SHARKS, Joltheads, Pinky's, King Mackeral, even had Mahi-Mahi all around the boat but they refused to hit anything we threw at them!!!! The next stop proved much of the same. We threw at least 40 Grouper back in the 18 to 191/2" range.

The fishing was fast and furious all day long. There was something pulling on a line just about constantly all day long!! Good to see you guys and fish with y'all again!!! Hope to see you again next time you're in town. Check out pic's on my site!! Till next time, FISH ON!!! Capt Butch Foster and "Private Bodie" the fish dog says, HI!!!. What a awesome start for the month of July! Today I had Corporal Web Haining of the USMC and two of his friends aboard and the fish were very cooperative! We started off about 18 miles off the beach trolling some freshly caught turbo Menhaden and within 30 seconds we had a nice Mahi hooked up and putting on a great show! After that it was non stop action all day long. We ended up with Mahi, Kings and a nice 30lb AJ. We lost a few more larger AJs, but I have just about fixed that problem with the new 40lb stand up tackle. You have to experience the awesome power of these AJs!! They are tons of fun and good eating as well! Also we had a NICE cobia follow one of our AJs to the surface but unfortunately the cobia left as fast as it appeared. There were lots of boats out there but we were one of the few with live baits and it really paid off! The weeds were scattered but manageable and its nice to finally see the kings move in closer.

Inshore, Capt. Trevor has been doing well with the flounder and red fish. The falling tide is producing the best. The water is pretty hot and the fish are becoming a but picky. Live bait and the Berkely GULP! shrimp on a jig head have been working the best.

The Reel Tackle Shop has reopened in the old Cape Fear Marine and Tackle location near Monkey Junction. They are well stocked and ready for business. Stop in and check them out!

The fishing continues to be great. In fact it has been so great I have gotten behind on my reports and this report will cover the last two weeks.

Offshore: The Cobia and Amberjack fishing has made up for the poor showing of King Mackerel. We have mainly been fishing in the 20 mile range and the Cobia and AJs have been holding tight to the AR structures and buoys. After being broke off 8 times by big AJs on king tackle we finally boated a nice 30 lb juvenile AJ that gave us a run for our money! The next day the cobia decided to play with our king tackle! We had a nice 30lb cobia to the boat, so we thought, and it dove to the wreck and broke my customer off with ease! The next Cobia came up in the prop wash and it was HUGE! I reeled in the double pogy rig and it was quickly inhaled. As soon as it felt the hooks it almost spooled us! We got back on it only to be wrapped around the buoy! Oh wellI am now building some 50lb class Next Level customs to fix this problem! After my Cobia run in we set the lines back out and my customer came up with a MONSTER 6.5. lb Spanish that went 28 inches long! NC Citation! Speaking of Citations We also live released a AJ for another NC Citation and boated a 23 lb Cuda for yet another NC Citation. 3 Citations in one week! Awesome. The kings and mahi are doing well in the 30 mile range. The African Pompano are at WR-4 and the Tower. We also got into a nice Spanish feeding frenzy about two miles off of the beach. We had non stop action for about 2 hours sight casting with mariah jigs to the Spanish. The Spanish are there you just have to look for them! There were acres of them!
Inshore: Capt. Trevor and I are still doing well with the Redfish and Flounder. The Reds are holding tight to the docks and are producing well in the ICW. The early morning bite seems to be best before the water temps get too hot. Berkley Gulp! and live bait are producing the best results. The Flounder love the 3″ white or glow Gulp! shrimp and are staging up near the creek mouths on a falling tide.

Hello everyone! The fishing continues to be great and so far it has been a excellent year for redfish. It is almost boring that redfish reports are becoming the norm but there is nothing boring about catching them! A redfish has become a sure thing on every inshore fishing trip! If you would like to experience it first hand give us a call! Now for the report....

INSHORE:

The flounder are biting well! They are biting in shallow water, deep water, ledges....everywhere. The preferred bait had been either live bait or Berkley Gulp! We even caught 3 on a spinnerbait! The redfish are stacked up and are working the docks and structure on the ICW, and the Wrightsville Beach docks seem to be producing the best. The flats are producing well when the wind allows and we had 2 of the best sight casting days that I can remember with lots of redfish caught and released. The flats are very non wind dependent and if the conditions are windy we simply fish the creeks or other nearby structure that is out of the wind. We produced a nice inshore slam under these conditions a few days back. The Bluefish are still around and have been snapping off a few carolina rigs every now and then.

OFFSHORE:

It has been a bit tough.. If the fish are there they have not been biting. The Spanish and kings were thick 2 weeks ago and now you have to be in the right place in the right time to catch one. Try early morning around the inlets for the Spanish using clarkspoons and a #1 planer. We ran to the dredge wreck and the schoolhouse a few days back and slow trolled LIVE Menhaden with no king bites! I was shocked! Big love turbo pogys always get the job done. After 2 hours of no fish we dropped the down rigger balls further down and we got into the big AJ'S. We got pinned and broke off 8 times by some large Amberjacks! It was a ton of fun but we were clearly out gunned! The bite should turn around any day and it might have already. Some one please flip the King Mackerel switch to the on position! Its time already!

Lets go fishing!

MONDAY,6-5-06:
The fishing has been fast and furious lately!! I finally got a chance to put one of the reports on!!! Check out the rest on our web site!! Today we woke up to thunder storms and heavy rains. We were to go fishing with Orvin Severeid, Kyle Severeid from Montana, and Joel Herrmann from High Point. We waited until 9:00AM before we left the dock. By this time the "Intellacast" on the computer showed it to be moving on up the coast with clearing behind it. By the time we get to where it is it will be gone!!

It was, and after a 2 foot sea ride out this morning, the seas laid out flat for the evening ride back. But before we came back, we gave Orvin, Kyle, and Joel a sample of deep sea fishing off the coast of Southport,NC.

The first stop was instant action, the bite was non stop for a little while before it slowed up some. Being from Montana, we wanted them to experience a little of all of it if we could. We next went fishing for a few King Mackeral. It wasn't long before we had a double on!!! Also, we got a few grouper, but they were all too small to keep. But Joel made up for that when he landed a Hog Nose Snapper around 15 lbs.

Would be nice if I could get them a Mahi-Mahi I was thinking to myself. Well, I must be living right, for about that time one "skyed" with the pogy. Now, it was a "peanut" but it was a dolphin. Next time, I'll think about getting a big dolphin!!! We continued to troll the area aroung the Tower and pulled out another decent sized King Mackerel off of a dead Cigar Minnow; but for some reason once again the action slowed and we decided that it would be worth a try to see if we could get an Amberjack from around the legs of the Tower so that these guys could experience the awesome power of these 40-60lb mosters! No luck on the Amberjacks but Chris did manage to hook up on what we believe to be an African Pompano that resulted in a broken line :-/! Maybe next time

After awhile of Jack fishing we decided to try for some more bottom species. Capt. Butch located another ledge and we dropped anchor, soon after to find the 3-5lb Triggerfish and Silver and Grey Snappers coming over the side. On the way in we stopped at a rock just offshore of the South 40 and found there to be many NICE sized Black Sea Bass that were ready to feed, except one problem... the Sharks were there too! What a "grand finale" to the day exclaimed Kyle and Joel!!! "We catch all these good eating fish and then we get to hook into some that can REALLY pull back!!"
All in all despite the later start and the bands of rain and storms this morning we had a great day on calm seas and were even able to get out of the rain. The fish were hungry and willing to cooperate and the Captain and crew of the Yeah RIght experienced another Great day on the sea!! Check out the pic's on our site!!!!!!

This has been a AWESOME week and the fishing is in full swing. The flounder are in and are stacked up. The Spanish are being caught in pretty good numbers right off the beach and the red fishing is on fire!
Try any dock in the ICW for the redfish. The water temp is perfect and they are holding TIGHT to the docks. Berkley Gulp! and live bait is getting the job done nicely. Be sure to tie a float on the other end of your anchor rope because we have had quite a few larger reds that we had to toss the anchor over and chase down. The flounder are laying right near creek mouths and are biting well on the falling tide when the bait fish wash out of them. The smaller creeks with less pressure have been producing better than the larger creeks with more fishing pressure.

I would also like to announce that Reel Adventure has grown. Capt Trevor has come aboard and is running my flats boat. He comes with a extensive knowledge of our creeks and inshore waters and his enthusiasm is second to none...his pics will prove it!! He has already had multiple Inshore slams and produced over 33 flounder in a 3/4 day! Welcome aboard Trevor!

Multiple inshore slams, Redfish, Spanish, Kings, Flounder.....Its time to go fishing! If you were waiting for the fish they are here!
Lets go!

Sunday,5-14-06; The winds are blowing again so I finally got a break long enough to catch up on some of my "paper work". Yesterday we met up with the gang from Fayetteville, NC. They were Tony Cameron,Fred White, Billy Owens,Clyde Brooks, and James Williams. We went after bottom fish and we found a wide variety that wanted to ride to the dock on the "YEAH RIGHT" and so we welcomed them aboard!!!

We had some big triggerfish, some big silver snapper, some big vermillion snapper, some big Black Bass, some very nice grouper, some big joltheads, some big grey snapper, but Fred White's big American Red Snapper was the rarest catch of the day!! We don't get a lot of those off our coast anymore and when you get one it is a real treet and a big surprise, not to mention some great fillets on the grill!!!!

We got these fish at only three stops, two were some of our usual places but one I found as I was moving to another place. I seen it on the color scope and turned around and got it "pinpointed" on the GPS, pulled up current from it, dropped anchor, drifted back on top of it and we dropped the baits down. Now let me tell you, from that point on, it was on!!!!!! These guys had the electric reels "smoking". We even hooked two fish that took the gears right out of two of our 4/0 reels. I mean you could not stop these two fish!!!!!

The last two days, first in the Gulfstream slamming big Mahi-Mahi, busting off big Wahoo's then the next day catching bottom fish till your arms ache, I love it, I could not think of doing anything else, and when you get to fish with the kind of folks like the guys from Fayetteville, why would you want to do anything else? CHECK OUT THE PICTURES ON MY SITE. Till next time, FISH ON!!! Capt Butch Foster, Capt Chris Foster, and "Private Bodie' the fish dog says HI!!!!! YEAH RIGHT SPORTFISHING CHARTERS,Southport,NC (910)845-2004. www.yeahrightcharters.com

P.S. Fred, we saved you a few for the next time. The other guys didn't want too, but I made them!!! Sure hope Mrs. Brown is doing better!!!

Thursday,5-11-06: Am I dreaming or did I spend a BEAUTIFUL DAY in the gulfstream yesterday with Mike, Sherry and Brian Gould and Brian's fiance Kim Smith. The weather and seas were gorgeous. We got a late start, so we set a course to the 100/400 to start our day. We left the dock at 7:15AM and we reached our destination at 9:05, yeah, it was CALM SEAS!!!!

Upon arriving, there were several other boats already there. The reports were a very few fish bing hooked up. An occasional Mahi- Mahi, an occasional Wahoo, but no reports of a Tuna. We thought maybe we could be the one to start the Tuna bite so we put our lines in and set towards the Blackjack Hole. Between the 100/400 was a slightly formed weed line. Looked like what was left after the day before 10 foot seas had busted it up, but was enough there to pull the baits around. We tried and had no results!!

After reaching the Blackjack, the reports were still that the bite was slow. Thirteen miles to the Steeples. Let's pull the lines in and run to there. Capt Chris, who was mating today, picked up the first rod to bring them in, and we had a double hook up of Mahi- Mahi. OK, we will stay here!! Another 30 to 45 minutes of pulling our Ballyhoos proved fruitless. OK, Let's go, I have got to try to get some fish in the boat and I don't think this is going to be the spot today.

Upon reaching the Steeples, the water was a deeper blue and the temps. were 3 degrees warmer. The bait was not as thick as it was a few weeks earlier, but there was some. We fished the rest of the day here, never got a Tuna bite, but had a good day on the Mahi- Mahi. Mike even fought a big Bull Dolphin that we seen several times, even on the International 50 wide reel, Mike would take in 10 yards of line and he would take back 15. This battle back and forth finally was more than the 50 lb. line could handle and it finally parted leaving Mike with only a memory of a battle well fought with the Mahi winning this one. We don't know how much he weighed, but, it was a very large bull!!!! Now, as for the Wahoo's. Somedays, no matter how hard you try, sometimes nothing goes right. We had plenty of chances to get a Wahoo!!! We had lines cut, baits bit off, fish get off, lines broke, we had the Wahoo bites, but that was it for the Wahoos, could not get one in the boat. Today was their day, but there is an old saying something about the sun not shining somewhere all the time.

We thank the LORD for giving us a beautiful day to spend in the Gulfstream with some good friends!! These are the times you cherish and remember back on as life goes on. A good day on the water with some GREAT friends.

As for the weekends weather, right now they aren't talking in our favor, but they may change it as the weekend gets closer, let's hope it gets better!! CHECK OUT THE PICTURES ON MY SITE!!!! On Saturday 5/13 I had the honor of taking out SGT. Shane Meeks and his friend who is a Lance Corporal in the USMC. They wanted to hook up with some King Mackerel and the kings were eager to please us. Luckily Shane and his fellow Marine were seasoned fishermen because it was chaos at times with a few double hook ups and even a triple! We were trolling HUGE Spanish sardines on yellow and pink king rigs. The sardines are not my favorite bait to pull but the size of the bait sure made up for its lack of quality. The king mackerel bit almost non stop until the bait was gone and the big bluefish would not stay off the down riggers! What a great problem to have. The fish were holding tight to the structure at WR-4 and each pass was a guaranteed fish. The wind finally started to pick up so we pushed in close to shore and tried for a few Spanish with no luck. All in all it was a awesome day with a great group of Marines. Thanks guys!

On Friday 5/12 I had Donnie Lee aboard for some shallow water reds. We ended up with 2 nice reds and missed another. The reds were caught on Berkley Gulp! jerkbaits when the wind was calm and once the wind picked up we caught another red on live bait. Hats off to Mr. Lee for staying in the game and working hard for those 2 reds!

Lets go!

The King Mackerel are in a bit closer now. We got one at the 10 mile box cars today and marked 66.7 degree water at the same location. This one might be a fore runner for the pack because this is the only one we found but more have to be nearby. The dredge wreck should have a few kings holding on it and the school house should be on fire with kings. We caught the king on a Yozuri crystal minnow on the down rigger. We also lost another suspected king. They are holding a bit deeper with the cooler water. 68 is the magic number for water temp and it will be here this week I hope and all heck will break loose! The bottom fishing is doing fairly well and the blues have been thick at the near shore wrecks and reefs. Jigging seems to work the best for them.

TODAYS TRIP... We popped a King Mackerel in the box during the first 2 minutes of having the lines out. Then a missed strike. We trolled our way in closer due to the increasing waves. As we approached the 7 mile rock the down rigger went off with force. We had something large. We cleared all other lines and the down riggers and chased it down. It would run to the bottom and right back to the top and all over the place, like nothing I have ever seen. This went on for 10 minutes or so. Then it bulldogged us to the bottom and would not budge. I started thinking early season cobia? Na couldnt be.. A shark? naa not on a yozuri. My customer states if it is a shark he wants to keep it. I say no, its a safety issue, but we will get a pic.(I remember my old sand tiger tail gaff incident!)Well my 3 customers kept fighting this fish for over a hour and twenty minutes and the fight covered over 1/2 a mile! The three of them switched off fighting this fish four times between the three of them. We were only using king tackle and 20lb Spiderwire Stealth with a 20lb mono leader. We saw the leader 3 times but no fish. Finally my customer comes up with a HUGE Thresher shark!! It was snagged in the tail by the yozuri! It was motionless and apparently expired (or very close to) during the fight. I lip gaffed it and it did not move. So here I am with this shark fumbling through my papers to make sure it was a legal catch. I called a friend to confirm and all was good. The shark was dead, the customer wanted it and it worked out great. Took it to Bridge Tender and weighed it in. 70lbs and 80 some inches long! Not bad on king tackle and 20lb SPIDERWIRE braided line!! Hats of to my customers for staying in the fight!

Its heating up!
Lets go fishing!

Posted on Sunday, April 23, 2006 - 4:20 am:

Saturday 4-22-06: Sorry this report is late, don't have an excuse, I just got lazy and am just now getting to it. We left the dock Friday morning with Bill Roberson,Chris Brafford, Joe Arthur, Jon Caton, David Arthur, and Joe Cotton. We were to start off king mackeral fishing. I figured this would be easy enough. Just two days before we were catching kings to the SW of the Tower.

I set our MAKO "YEAH RIGHT" on course to the spot we were at the other day. I told our crew to get comfortable, the first stop was 35 miles out. At around 8:00AM I pulled the throttles back on the HONDAS and was suprised to find that the area looked like "The Dead Sea". I made several circles to find nothing. The water looked good, the temperature was almost 70* but there was no fish or bait.

No need to start here I said, let's move on to another place. I put in some more numbers and off we went. As we got closer I realized another boat was already there. Not much happening here, was the report!! OK, I got a spot about ten miles from here. The way things are looking, I believe these fish may have moved to a little shallower water. We will be going with the swell so we can make short work of the 10 mile run.

By this time I was thinking to myself. I bet todays charter thinks they are on an expensive boat ride. I hate to have to ride like this, but if you make a bad call and don't find the fish, then regroup and don't waste time at that spot and go try to find them. We left the second place and now the pressure was on me!! Was I going the right way? Should I go farther offshore? Should I go to the East? maybe West? I got to find these guys some fish and not take all day!!

I arrived at the 3rd place. By not wasting time at the areas where we marked no fish or bait it was only 9:00am. Not bad for running 35 miles offshore then another 5 miles then another 10 miles. Upon arrival, I told everyone this looks good!! Capt. Chris baited up the rods and put them out, I set the trolling speed at around 1.1 mph on the GPS. As we crossed over the high spot, I said, these fish are feeding. No more did I get that out when the first rod went off, FISH ON!!!! someone yelled!!!!

The bite was starting to heat up, we put 5 kings in the boat rather quickly, then just as it started, the bite went off. We trolled on and kept circling the bait to no avail. The reports from the other boats were that the bite for them had also shut down. So, with this info. we decided to quit wasting time and go bottom fishing. We were in luck, I was real close to some of my favorite bottom structures. We got anchored up and the bite was on!!! We hit four places and at each one the bite was fast and furious but they didn't last real long, maybe an hour and a half at each one. But as the bite would taper, we went to another place. That evening, the tide went slack, the bite shut down and we came home, but, not before we had a good catch of fish for everyone!!!!

Another good day of fishing with a great bunch of guys!! Thanks for being patient with me while I was hunting the fish!! Sometimes they seem to not want to play fair!!! Goes back to the old saying "it's called fishing, not catching" But we did find some of them, they can't all hide all the time!!! Enjoyed it guys, looking forward to our next trip!!! Todays Gulfstream trip was blown out, tomorrows trip has been blown out, Mondays Gulfstream trip is in question right now. The weather forecast does not look good for a week at this time. If we get to go we will let you know how we did right here. I am beginning to wonder if the winds are ever going to settle down where we can get back offshore more consistantly. Yeah, they will eventually, but until they do, just make the best out of what you have by fishing inside and just be glad we are free and can go fishing, period!!!! Be sure to check out the pictures on my site under "FISHING REPORTS & CATCH PHOTOS" page!!! Till next time, FISH ON!!! Capt Butch Foster, Capt Chris Foster, and "Private Bodie" the fish dog, says HI!!!!!. YEAH RIGHT SPORTFISHING CHARTERS, Southport,NC.

The past two weeks have been great! Lots of charters and lots of fish! For the past week or so we have been doing well with the Bluefish and Gray Trout at the Liberty Ship. We even got a Tautog! The Bonito's popped up a few times only to dive right back down and elude us. There are many being caught right now if you put your time in to target them. The Bluefish are biting almost any jig you drop over or near the wreck. If it too rough to get off shore we stayed inside and fished the WB jettys with live pogys. The Pogys are thick in the dredge pond. The jetty fishing has been productive and fun with light tackle sharks and bluefish. We had a 3' shark on a light freshwater rod with 10lb spiderwire and landed it! Lots of fun.

Left out Thursday with John McDow and Devin on John's boat and headed to Frying Pan tower. We had a great time but the kings were thin. We had 68 degree water but little bait was around. We ended up with 2 kings and a ton of Jacks. The Berkley Gulp! cigar minnows worked excellent and troll nicely. We caught one of our Kings and a few Jacks on them. The thing I like about them is they track very nicely and dont have the tendency to spin like frozen cigar minnows do at times. Another great Gulp! product! Thanks John for the invite. I had a great time fishing with you and Devin.

Today Mark and I did some inshore scouting around the Wrightsville beach area and were greeted by a nice school of smaller reds and a few flounder! The redfish were way back up on a flat and were schooled tightly. At first they would not bite so we eased my flats boat closer and closer to them and one finally took the Gulp! jerk bait just inches off the side of my boat! We quickly snapped a pic and released him. The reds were smaller in size and you had to work hard to get a larger one to bite. We left the shallow water area and Mark instantly hooked into a nice flounder which was also released. We got a few more and headed home. I plan to spend a lot of time around Wrightsville this year .One thing I am going to do with Flounder from now on is no more live bait for them! We caught them on Gulp! shrimp drifted along the bottom. As soon as they bite set the hook! No missed hookups and no waiting!

If you need Gulp! Tex's Tackle is slam full of all the shapes, colors and sizes.

Lets go!

Thursday 4-13-06. It is 11:00PM Thursday night and I hit the floor running at 4:00AM this morning, so, I will probably make this as detailed as I have the ability to right now. We left South Harbour Marina this morning with Mike and Tim Laudicina, their friends, Rob Wilson and John Fleming. Our mission was the Gulfstream and Tuna and dolphin and Wahoo.

The first stop we made was at the 100/400, the water temp was fine and there was a little bait around but I didn't like the water color so we moved on to the Black Jack. Here things looked a lot better!! We put out a spread of Cedar Plugs and a deep diving lure, a Manns stretch 50 in a pink color. It wasn't long before a reel sounded off as a Mahi-Mahi crashed the bait, a black and purple cedar plug. We boated him and not long after that something attacked the deep diving plug we had out. I mean literally attacked it, and as far as I know, he still has it!! Figured it was a Wahoo as it cut the line just above where it was tied on!!!

Now, the reports from the other boats were very slim to none!! I only heard of one Wahoo and one Yellowfin being caught today on other boats,. I decided after trolling for about another hour with nothing happening to head to the Steeples. When we got there, the water was that beautiful cobalt blue gulfstream water and the temps were warmer and there was some flying fish here and a lot more bait than at the first two stops.

Here I marked a school of bait and pulled the lures through it to have three reels go off. One cut off a "Green Machine" the other one had a smaller blackfin tuna, and the other "had" a good size Blackfin Tuna, but, when the dust settled all we had was 1 and 1/3 Blackfin Tunas in the boat. Something big ate the biggest blackfin, all but the head!!! The stream is still slow to get fired up this year, it is past time and it should explode at any time!!

We continued to circle the bait where we caught the blackfins but it was soon obvious that we were done here so we left and finished the day bottom fishing. The bottom fish are still cooperating rather well along with the sharks. We caught nice sized Black Bass, Big Pinkies, Big Grey Snapper, Nice Joltheads and Triggerfish, a good Flounder, and even a few B-liners. The King Mackeral also decided to bite fairly good today after a terrible day yesterday!!

We have cancelled tomorrows charter due to the forecast winds. Saturday doesn't look any better as does Sunday and Monday. Yeah, it's that time of the year, we don't have to like it, but, we can't do anything about it but wait until it decides to settle down and be ready to go when it does!!!

You may want to consider this if you fish much!! You can get the "Road Use Tax" you pay on gas refunded to you on fuel you use in your boat or any other appratus that is not used on the hwy ie; tractor, lawn mower, etc. Just keep all your reciepts and call the North Carolina Dept. of Revenue Motor Fuels Tax Division at (919)733-3409 before the end of the year and request form "Gas-1201". If you are also commercial as we are, you can also save the Sales Tax. You may want to consider this, it can save you a lot of money on fuel if you fish much.

Well, when the weather breaks again we will be back out there and we will let you know what's going on! Or at least what's going on with us anyway!!! So. until we can go again, Check out the pic's on our web site on the "FISHING REPORTS & CATCH PHOTOS" page!! Saturday 4-1-06: Friday morning at 3:30Am until around midnight last night, "yep", those are the kind of days you put in when you fish for a living!! But, It's what I love to do, and I am fortunate to be able to do what I love and be able to earn a livelyhood at the same time. But just like any other job, some times it has it's downfalls, but, not Friday!!!!

We went back East of the Tower this morning and the Kings were still there. The bite was not as hot as we left it the evening before. We were starting to do fairly good then a fish hit and the reel screamed as he went straight down. Looks like a tuna run we said!! Guess what, an hour and a half later we saw a "BIG" Blackfin Tuna on the hook. Capt Chris worked him to boat side like the seasoned pro he is. Now, as for the gaff man, well, that's a different story!!!!!!!!!!

As he made his circle I drove the gaff home, "YEAH RIGHT". As things happen in fishing, I don't know what went wrong, but he came off the gaff and as Capt Chris was bringing him back to boat side the hooks just pulled out. Let's see, wasn't there a phrase for that one time that went like: "The thrill of victory, and the agony of defeat", or something like that!!

We set the lines back out and then it happened again. Only this time it was a much larger fish. The battle was on again. the fish was finally brought close enough in the crystal clear water and what we saw looked like a 60 to 70 lb. Yellowfin Tuna. Try that on king tackle. The decision was finally made to tighten the drag and try to pull him up off the bottom. We nearly did it, but three+ hours into this one and the line broke!!

Well, now the morning bite on the kings was all but over. We put the lines back out and as every one else was reporting, the bite had shut down. QWe had missed the morning bite fooling with those tunas on light tackle. We ran back inshore about 8 miles and dropped on some bottom structure and started catching some nice bottom fish. We did this a little while until the tide went slack and they stopped biting.

We left there and went back to the spot for some more king fishing. We found it to still be real slow. I hated to leave because the bite had been hot there just yesterday, and it was good that morning. But, the day was running out and we had messed with those tuna's all morning and we didn't even have a "box" of fish yet.

Reel them in, I told Capt Chris. Somebody has got to make a call, might as well be me!!! If we don't find them, then I'll take the blame!! Now, yesterday in the Tower area the bait was "stacked up". That,s where I am going, I said. We made the run there and put out the lines. A few boats were there hooked up. We started out sorta slow, and I was starting to think that maybe I had made a wrong call. Pull them in again Chris, let's move over to that rock ledge we have on our LORAN!!

We did, and let me tell you, as the old saying goes, the rest is history!! we could not keep the lines in the water. Four fish on at any one time. The kings were hitting the baits as you were putting them out. These are the kind of days you dream about. It's supposed to be nice tomorrow, but be sure to check the weather before you head out, it can and does change quick down here. If you can get away, go on out to the Tower and get you some kings. Now, if you are in my spot when I get there, well, that's quite all right, but, you might have to move over a little.

I sure hope my fishing reports help out in your search for fish. I know it is running me a small fortune in fuel these days just to go to the Tower and back, and if I can cut your search down, then I feel like I am doing my job!!! I said a small fortune, but it is getting close to a big fortune!! If you like my reports, let us know, it takes a lot of time and effort to keep all this up, but, if you guys like what we do, then that makes what I do worth while. Like I have said in the past"without all of you, what I do would be useless"!! If you have the time and opportunity, we would appreciate a comment on our "GUESTBOOK" or an email. But, this is totally if you would like to!!The "GUESTBOOK" helps us keep our ratings up!!!

The last report I got from the Gulfstream was not good. Only heard of one Wahoo caught. We are scheduled to head out there Monday. The weather is "iffy" right now. If we get to go, you can find out what happens right here. Stay in touch, and if I can help, don't hesitate to ask!! Be sure to see the pic's on my site on "FISHING REPORTS & CATCH PHOTOS"Till next time, FISH ON!!! Capt Butch Foster, Capt Chris Foster, and "Private Bodie" the fish dog says HI and FISH ON!!!!!!. The winter redfishing has been great to say the least, but King Mackerel season has finally arrived! After having to cancel plans all winter due to weather and water temp it was nice to have everything line up perfectly for a tower trip, and trust me it has to line up PERFECTLY to run a bay boat offshore 40+ miles! David (aka KINGBUSTER) and his friend were as excited about this as I was and it was evident by everyone getting to the 5:30 am departure EARLY!! One last check of the weather...2-3' seas and 72 degree water temp at Frying Pan tower's online bouy and it was a go. We made 34 mph all the way to the tower. We deployed 3 king rods with dead cigars on them and at first all the fish came off the downrigger. The first king went just a bit over 20 lbs and it was non stop action for the rest of the trip! The kings moved from mid water column to the surface and you could see them explode and sky rocket on the bait we were trolling. The kings were thick and we limited out quickly. After the mission was accomplished it was time for fun.(I warned you I was going to do it!) We put out two ultra light trout rods with 10 lb Spiderwire stealth and cigar minnows and prayed a big king did not come along. Well he did..... I looked back at the rod in the downrigger and the rod tip was doubled over and almost in the water. I had the drag very light but quickly found that with these light rods no drag at all is best on the hook set. We had a awesome time with the light stuff and boated a few kings with them and got broke off a few times wich was expected. A few highlights of the trip...David was hooked up and he goes crazy, I look over and a 10' Hammerhead shark just crusies by 5 feet off of our bow, takes a peek at our king and keeps going! WOW! After that we were trolling by the legs of the tower when about 200-300 jacks came out to us. I quickly reel'd up the bait on the trout rod and they fought like dogs for it and inhaled it. Ten minutes later it broke us off! As we were about to depart and head back to Carolina Beach Inlet a large CG vessel pulls up and deploys a inflatable. The inflatable boarded and checked each vessel. As our turn came they pulled along side of us and checked us out and were on their way. They were very courteous and professional. I was suprised to be checked so far out!

We had a great day! It was so flat we ran 45 mph back in and made the inlet in no time. King buster and (forgot name) friend were great to have on board and fought the kings like pro's. The water temp at the tower climbed to 74 degrees during the middle of the day. On the way back bait was everywhere along with the albies and the temp near the schoolhouse was 65 degrees.

Dates are filling up fast, lets go fishing!

MONDAY, 3-20-06: There are four things in life that you don't brag on!! They are your wife, your children, your dog, and your ability to fish!!! This past weekend, my charter wanted some black bass, but, we couldn't catch them for the dog sharks. Well, today I had Walter Hudyma and his son Wally from DeMoine, Iowa and Ed Hudyma and Tim McNulty from Holly Springs. Well, these guys wanted a few black bass but mostly wanted sharks.

Sharks, no problem, I replied. We immediately left the dock and headed straight to the spot where all the sharks were. Not a problem, I just hope we can get a few bass before the sharks find us. We checked a few schools of fish and finally dropped down on some descent sea bass. We turned the boat around and got anchored up. Maybe we can catch a few of these before the sharks get started.

It wasn't long before we had two limits of bass in the boat, but, no sharks. I couldn't believe it, all the bragging about how sharks was no problem, and if I was a millionaire and sharks were 10 cents each, I couldn't have bought one!!!! We pulled anchor and went looking for sharks. Two days before today, you could not get away from the spiney dog sharks, today we did manage 5 sharks, but, I searched hard to get those!!! At my defense, I will add that we are starting into our transition time, one day warm the next cold, the fish say "should I stay or should I go" you know the drill, "here today, gone tomorrow"!!

Ever wondered why they are called Spiney Dog Sharks? Here's why: Of coarse it's obvious about the spines on top at the base of their fins giving them the name "spiney" as for the nick name "dog" that's because they school, or run in a pack, ie: "A pack of dogs" therefore the name "dog" add these together and you come up with"Spiney Dog Sharks", they are more commonly called "Spiney Dog Fish". As for the white spots on their sides, that's because that's the way the the GOOD LORD made them!!! Thought you might like that tid bit of info. I thought it was unique!!!

Your wife, your dog, and your fishing, bragg on either one of those and they will make a liar out of you every time!!!! But we still caught plenty of fish, had a good time, and made some more friends!! And before you go to bragging about how catching a particular fish will be no problem, remember this, there is a reason it's called fishing and not catching!!!Check out the pic's on our site under "FISHING REPORTS & CATCH PHOTOS" Till next time, FISH ON!!! P.S. YEAH RIGHT CHARTERS has been asked to be a major contributor, writer, for a new e-magazine/Sportfishing Forum on the West Coast. This will place our web site on the West Coast based publication along with our own reports page/Captain's Page and our own rotating banners along with top listings in the search engines on the web. This will be a new adventure for us as we enter into a new form of reaching our clients that should prove to be an over whelming experience for us and our sponsors!! We are very excited about this opportunity and consider it an honor to have a web site that has drawn attention from a major Sportfishing Forum to be included on their site!!! It takes weeks sometimes months to build these sites. This site is in it's infancy, only being started being built a few days ago, however, you can get a sneak preview by going to www.hookupsportfishing.com and click on forums in the "news & info". section. Capt Chris and I can hardly wait until it is finished, it should be awesome!!!!FISH ON!!! Capt Butch

The redfishing action is becoming a bit more consistent with the warm water. We have warm water temps for this time of year and the fish are feeding well. Thursday, Mark (Fishstalkers) and I went out for a few hours on a scouting mission. The wind was nice and calm and we saw a few fish on the flats but not the numbers we are used to seeing. After spending a hour on the flats we moved to a few ledges and points and we were instantly greeted by some nice redfish. The redfish bit on Berkley Gulp! jerk baits as usual. The redfish seem to have moved into more of a summer pattern and are bit more scattered around in smaller schools. It is almost time to break out the spinner baits and top waters! We also spotted live mullet and POGYS! It wont be long until we have the caravans of live bait coming if the weather stays warm.

Friday, We spent a half day on the water and caught a few nice reds on the ledges and creek mouths near southport and in the cape fear river. We had 6 redfish but all were smaller and were very aggressive.
These little guys were a blast on light tackle. Speaking of light tackle... I have just finished building 2 extreme ultra light rods. These rods are basically 4-6 lb freshwater rods built to handle the saltwater environment. We are going to put them to good use on some over the slot reds and even some SMALL king mackerel. They will be spooled with 8lb spider wire and the reels will be the new Okuma VS 2000's with a 5 year warranty! King fishing is right around the corner and they will be in CLOSE very soon. Give us a call to expierence ultra light fishing like never before! Dont wait to read about it, come and do it! WWW.REEL-ADVENTURE.COM

Monday 3-13-06: It looks as though the 2006 fishing season has kicked off here in Southport,NC. The water at the Tower was 68 degrees this past weekend and the King Mackeral were hungry. The weather was too nice for me to stay here at the house. So with Capt Chris gone to Lexington,NC to visit with his girlfriend Michelle, that left me to run a commercial trip by myself. If I had known before the last minute I was going I could have called and rounded up some help!! But as it is most of the time in the fishing business, you have to play the weather and most of the time you don't know if you will be able to go until the last minute and calling someone at 4:00AM to ask if they want to go fishing is probably not a good idea.
Now, I have recieved some comments from some other Captains saying that they think I should not be posting pictures from a commercial trip since I am a charter service. I don't understand the reason behind this. I am a Charter boat Captain, but I am also a commercial fisherman. I have purchased all the license and permits and fill out all the log books and reports on a by fishing trip and monthly basis, and by posting the commercial trips we run helps you know what is biting where and when. Sure, there have been some rude and critical remarks about all the fish we catch sometimes, and that's to be expected from people that don't understand how it works. There are quotas set, and when those are met, then a particular season will be closed to prevent over harvest, and when I am asked if we can do a commercial trip on a charter, the answer is no, it is illegal to combine a commercial trip with a charter trip. I fish for a living, so why not share the results with other fishermen. Good info. on fishing can be hard to find sometimes!! And as a lot of you already know, I do not have to know who you are, if you want to know where a particular fishing spot is or any kind of info. all you have to do is ask!!!
I will tell you one thing, spend a day on the water in the middle of a bunch of hungry King Mackeral by yourself, and if you are my age, they will tell you the next morning that you are not getting any younger!!!
This weekend as of this point doesn't sound as though it is going to be good for fishing. They are predicting it to be windy, but it is still a week away, and we all know how fast it can change. So let's all keep our fingers crossed that the front will either speed up or slow down and the winds won't be here Saturday as predicted now!! If you can get out to the Tower area, the Kings are "chewing down" on frozen cigar minnows or you can troll Drone spoons at about 5 knotts behind a #8 planer. Either one will work, but, if the spoons slow down, try going to the minnows, they will usually hit those when they won't hit the spoons.
The bottom fish are stacked up out there also. If you are interested in those just go out there and get anchored up and go at it. You may have to move though when the sharks find you!! The fishing season is under way, and remember, if you keep putting it off to go fishing, another year will pass you by, and you will still be wanting to go. Life is too short to not do some of the finer things in life, so give us a call and let's go catch some fish!!!Check out the picture on my site under the report, just click on "FISHING REPORTS & CATCH PHOTOS!! What a awesome weekend! On Saturday I had Dennis from Ireland and his son from Penn State aboard for some of our shallow water redfish. I had high hopes with the nice weather we have had all week. As soon as the boat hit the water I was surprised to see 58 degree, slick as glass water. Yep, the wind FINALLY layed down!! We got to spot number one and never left! As soon as I dropped the trolling motor I could see the boils of bait fish and the wakes of redfish down the bank a few hundred feet. Up came the trolling motor and out came the push pole. This was a HUGE school of reds and I did not want to spook them in the foot and a half of water with the motor. These are the type of school's I dream about and they did not know we were there! I poled as fast as I could to get within range and as luck would have it they were moving away from me. After a minute or two more of poling we finally were in range and they were busy busting on bait fish that were cruising the shoreline...still unaware of us. I got both my anglers on the bow..told them to cast at the exact same time as each other and they put the Gulp! jerk baits right on target! First double hookup of the day. As soon as we hooked them I hit the switch for the power pole and we stopped in place so we would not disturb the rest of the school. A minute or two later a nice 26 inch red and a 17 inch red were quickly caught and released. Very next cast same result! We got 6 fish out of the school before we spooked it off for good! Awesome! We cruised out with the tide and stopped at the end of the flat right near the deeper water. On the falling tide the fish have to move to deeper water and they use certain lanes (that are maybe 8 inches or so deeper) on the flats each time to do so. This is exactly where we positioned our selves for the parade of redfish that presently surprised us! We had about 6 small schools come right out to us and we picked up 3 more reds sight casting to these schools. Precision casting was the ticket for these fast moving schools. As we were leaving I saw another great site..62 DEGREE WATER TEMP!! If the weather keeps going like it is our "fishing season" is going to be about a month early!

Today (Sunday) we ran out again and there was more of a crowd today and the wind was kicked up a bit but we managed one redfish for the short time we were there. We got a bit sidetracked by a dolphin in a foot or so of water chasing redfish. It was awesome! We got right up to the dolphin and watched and then got really close to it. It could have gotten away from us but instead it hung around and played with us for about 5 minutes before heading for deeper water.

Lets Go!!

SUNDAY 3-5-06: Well we did it!!! We took the weather mans forecast and headed offshore today. We were beginning to wonder if he had missed it though. It was down right nasty going out this morning. A brisk NW wind was blowing the seas up and they were close together. Several times I almost aborted the mission, but I kept telling myself that I had been in a lot worse. Guess the older you get the less you like it rough!! You can get an idea of what the seas were like by looking at the pictures on the right, then look at how it laid down that afternoon by looking at the water at the Tower that evening. The winds went from NW to SW, and the reversal of the winds will lay it out like that!!

The water has been cold offshore for the past few weeks. But we were on a mission to find some King Mackeral to start getting our Federal King Mackeral Permit qualified for this year. The water at the Tower was 63 degrees, normally a bit cool for King Mackeral, but not today, they were there. We had a good bite up to around mid afternoon then they slowed way down.

When they slowed, we fished a little for some bottom fish. We did pretty good on those also. Caught some big black bass, also some decent B-liners and some huge Grey Snapper. The sharks were not too bad all though we did catch plenty. We even hooked up with some that proved to be too much for our 50 lb. test line!! We caught just enough bottom fish for a couple of fresh fish dinners, then we decided to head to the hill.

OK King Mackeral Fishermen and women, this is the news you have been waiting all winter to hear. Get a pretty day, go get 'em. We will see you there either on the way to the Gulfstream or after we limit out at the stream and stop there on the way back to finish up a day of fishing. That's right, Gulfstream fishing will be in full swing in just a few weeks. The fish are there we just need weather where we can go to them!!!

As for the King's today. We trolled frozen cigar minnows today and they seemed just happy as could be to eat 'em!! If you wanted to jig up live ones, you shouldn't have any trouble there were plenty there to jig up!! Get the boat out of mothballs and take it to Mike at SUPPLY BOAT CO. in Supply and get her tuned up and checked out so you will be ready to go fishing when you have the chance. Wait till the last minute to get it done and instead of fishing you will be waiting in line instead of being out catching those first fish of spring!!! IT IS TIME!!!! BE SURE TO SEE THE PIC'S ON MY SITE AT www.yeahrightcharters.com Till next time, FISH ON!! Capt Butch Foster, Capt Chris Foster, and "Private Bodie" the fish dog says HI!!!!. Saturday, 2-25-06: We are back from the FISHERMANS POST FISHING SCHOOL and it went very well I thought. Thanks to all who attended and everyone else that made it possible!!

OK, here goes as promised:::

we met up with Jason Simmons and his wife June along with Gary Gilbert and Mark Talton. I thought we were going after just some Black Sea Bass when I heard someone say I sure would like some grouper. This changed everything!!! Knowing that this time of year the Grouper were offshore in deep water, and the forecast was for the winds to pick up offshore that evening, I had to form a game plan. We would head out to a deep rock 45 miles offshore SE of the Tower and when the winds picked up we could head to the shoal area around the tower. Since the winds were supposed to be from the NW, the shoals would have a tendency to keep the seas laid out.

I LOVE IT WHEN A PLAN COMES TOGETHER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!We had a good ride out, we were crusing at 31 knots and were at our first spot by 8:30AM. The current was running fairly strong and the first pass was in vain. I thought, did I make a wrong call and run all this way for nothing, then I noticed I had made a pass up current from the rock (still early in the morning, being as I was up till 3:30AM the night before and got up at 5:00AM).

I repositioned the boat and crossed down current where the rock/ledge was being used as a current break. OK Chris, get on the anchor windlass, here they are!!! Down went the anchor and when it hooked up the boat swung right over top of our projected fishing hole. The usual bite started as it so often does in Grouper fishing. The feeding activity was more than they could handle. We were putting some nice bottom fish in the boat when the grouper said, "enough is enough" two small reds came aboard, then two nice reds in the 9 to14 lb. range, then a gag around 16 lbs.

Now June Simmons, not to be out done, hooked up with a big fish. There were all kinds of predictions as to what it was. When it was finally boated, she had landed a 28 lb. NC Citation Jack Cravelle, YOU GO GIRL!!! Now, about this time, as we had figured, it was time to pull anchor as the seas were building out here in the deep water fast. It's time to go to calmer water, so we pulled anchor and ran the 15 miles back to the tower/shoal area. Here at the end of the shoals, the shoal had it knocked down to only 2 feet. We finished up the day here in this area and by the time we left to head home the seas were down to around 1 foot or less.

Everyone had a great day of fishing with plenty of fillets for the grill!! Today we caught; Bonito's, Amorings, Black Sea Bass,2 Flounder,B-Liners(vermillion snapper) triggerfish, sharks, Jack cravelle, Joltheads, Pinkys, Grey Snapper, Red Grouper, and gag grouper. What a day of fishing we all had!!!!

The report from the Gulfstream is promisingwith Yellowfin Tuna, Blackfin Tuna, and Wahoo being caught this weekend. With the mild winter we have had so far, The stream action may get off to a little earlier than usual start this year. Don't think that will make anyone mad!!

As I have said before, find a day you can get out, go to the fish, and you can have a great day like this too!!!! Check out the pic's on my site under "FISHING REPORTD & CATCH PHOTOS". It sure looks like this is going to be a GREAT Fishing Season!!! Till next time, FISH ON!!!! Capt Butch Foster, Capt Chris Foster, and "Private Bodie" the fish dog says HI!!!!. FRIDAY 2-17-06: Todays charter couldn't make it due to some unexpected problems so Capt Chris and I headed offshore for a little quality time between us before the charter season kicks off full time. We were in the chase for some Black Sea Bass. We found them in small schools and we had to hit them hard and fast, here's why!! SHARKS, SHARKS, and more SHARKS.

Yes, sharks, it looks as though the spiney dog sharks have made an earlier than normal apperance. If you are in the market to catch sharks, now is the time to book a trip and we will show you how to (most likely) catch all the sharks you will want to catch. At one time today, we were catching sharks two at a time, on one rod!!!!!

We would get on a school of Black Sea Bass and I was watching the color scope and would tell Capt Chris when the sharks would move in. By doing this, we were able to focus more on the bass than the sharks. But we still probably boated somewhere in the neighborhood of fifty sharks today, and some we could not turn or stop before they broke the line!!!

Well, the last rock we stopped on was the best!!! I was using a double drop rig and Capt Chris had on three hooks. Five at a time the Black Sea Bass came into the boat, and before the sharks had a chance to move in we had limited out on Sea Bass. They were mixed in size, we didn't get any of the jumbos like you get sometimes, but we had several two pounds plus with most in the 1 to 11/2 pound range. We had Black Sea Bass coming in the boat so fast at one time that all "Private Bodie" the fish dog could do was just stand and look, he didn't have a clue as to which one he needed to pounce on!!!!

I know it's February, but the fishing is great when you can get a pretty day to get out on the water, and today was a beautiful day, light winds, warm temperature, and almost calm seas, 2 ft. or less!!

Yes, you want sharks, we got'em, You want Black Sea Bass, we got'em. You want bottom fish in general, we got'em. Have not heard of where or looked for the King Mackeral. I am sure they are out there somewhere, but too much other stuff is biting right now to mess with them yet!! If you can get away to do some fishing, come on down, and you can find the fish starting about 10 miles out and beyond. If I can help you in any way, call or email, I will be glad to help you if I can!!! CHECK OUT THE PICTURES ON MY SITE!!!Till next time, FISH ON!!! After fishing in Florida for a week it was good to be back in my home waters again pursuing some good old North Carolina redfish. Mark with Fishstalkers dropped by today to order a custom rod from me and with perfect conditions we decided to go hook a few redfish. We were a little late getting to our location (near southport) and the tide had fallen pretty quickly and cut us off from a few spots that are normally very productive but on the upside we had excellent water clarity. We adjusted our game plan and broke out the Berkley Gulp! 5" jerk baits. We scanned the flat but the fish had not made it out to it yet so we fished the 6" to 1' deep troughs that run through the flats. The reds use these "lanes" to get to deeper water as the tide falls. We approached quietly in the skinny water and I heard the familiar sound of the drag running off of Marks reel. The Gulp! did the trick and he was hooked up with a nice red that we snapped a few pic's of and released. We fished out the lanes and with the tide falling we had to find a bit deeper water. We hit 2 points near a creek mouth and 2 more redfish were bending the rods and were quickly released. One thing I noticed in Florida and noticed again today was that the reds will hold on to the Gulp for a LONG time. I felt a red pick up the gulp today and was not sure if it was a fish or the bottom at first. I twitched the rod a few more times and came tight on the line realized this was not the bottom and set the hook. I had the bait in the reds mouth for a good five seconds. I am sure he would have spit it out if it were a usual soft plastic. The reds seemed to be confused and are more in the summer pattern... we did not find many fish on the flats, they seemed to be more concerned with eating than staying warm in the 50 degree water. The pearl white and red jerk baits did the trick for us today. As the slack tide approached we called it a day and headed home. Not a bad day for 3 hours of fishing!

Lets go!

SATURDAY 2-11-06; Today we had to call off our trip due to the winds. But I can't complain. Yesterday we started off our charter season with pretty good results. We left the dock with Fred Brown and Gary Hunt from Charlotte, they had some friends with them. They were Ben McDonald, Tony Cameron, James Williams, and Charles McNair, these guys were from Fayetteville, NC. The first stop was in the Horseshoe area, not much there!! The fish were hard to find, other boats in the area were reporting the same results. I was determined not to stop on the small schools of fish we were marking due to the difficulty of getting anchored on them in a "straight up" tide. We went to an area where the fish were reported being caught just two days prior to today, but it did not look too good so I made the decision to head 15 more miles to the SW to a rock I had found last year.

Upon arriving, I was getting the feeling that this was going to be a terrible way to start the new charter season. On the approach to the rock it was dead. As it rose up off the ocean floor, dead!!! Then I started down the back side, several fishermen were looking over my shoulder at the color scope. What's that? was the reply, that is what we are looking for, I replied.

Capt. Chris got a bottom rod and dropped down to make sure we were not going to anchor up on a pile of pinfish. That was a good hit, he said. Upon bringing the two pound black bass to the boat we drifted a bit more to establish an anchor course. We got the boat anchored and from that point on it was fast and furious for the next four hours. There is no telling how many big sharks were hooked and broken off. Some of them were estimated in the several hundreds of pounds. We did get two to the boat that were around 150 lbs. each.

Well, when the tide went slack four hours later, and the fish went into a non feeding stage, we re-grouped, seperated the fish and when they were placed into the on board fish boxes we had a problem, there was no room for ice. Both of the fish boxes were full of some of the best eating fish in the ocean!!

Yes, I would call it a fantastic way to start the new charter season!!! Even though when we started, it looked like all the fish had migrated south. But, my crew today never complained and they had the confidence in me too find them some fish today. Thanks fellows, I know you probably thought I was going to ride you around in the ocean all day on a boat ride, but sometimes you have to make the decision to leave an area to find the fish. All you guys were a real pleasure to fish with and we all had a ball!!! Now, isn't that what it's all about anyway, the fish are just an added bonus!! You can see the pictures on my website!! P.S. THE ELECTRICS ARE SERVICED, YOU KNOW WHAT I MEAN!!!! Till next time, FISH ON, Capt Butch Foster, Capt Chris Foster, and Private Bodie, the fish dog, says HI!!!. Saturday 1-29-06: We left out this morning with Bluefin Tuna on our mind. But around lunch time we were fairly convinced, due to the lack of gannet bird activity and the bait was scattered, could not find any "balled up" as they do when being persued by predator fish, plus no one had hooked up all night or that morning. With all this evidence, it was an easy call to pull off and go catch a few king mackeral and some bottom fish.

The grouper bite was reported real hot the first of last week, but we found the bite had slowed for us. We did find some nice black bass that we picked up while we were king fishing, could have loaded the boat with them if we had stopped and anchored up on them. It's hard to bottom fish while slow trolling for kings in 110 feet of water. But all we wanted was enough for a few fresh fish dinners!!

Now, if your game is amorings, there were plenty of those to be caught also. Bonito's were schooling everywhere. If you like to catch false albacore on a fly rod, now is the time to head offshore. These fish were in big schools everywhere. Of coarse you have to take into context that the seas were flat and you could see a bait fish flip 100 yards away. The seas were as calm as I have seen it in a long time!!!

The water is cold around the horseshoe and tower areas, we found warm water 68* in the 370's. The 370's, for those that don't have loran, is in the area around the "Navy wreck". This is where the kings were, they were not thick, but if you get on a school of bait, you can have a good bite. The spoon bite was decent, but it seemed like the minnow bite was a little better. Be sure to check the pictures out under the fishing report on my site. If any of you guys know how, (I don't know how), feel free to upload them on your site, it would be appreciated!!

Some friends of mine went to the Gulfstream, the bite there was slow. A wahoo was caught, but the stream is not real active as of this report. But, be assured, it want be much longer until nature says it's time to migrate and when they do, they will use the stream as their "road to new grounds" and we will be there with the "toll gate" up.

Keep a watch on the weather and when you get a high pressure come in and lay the winds down that's the time to go fishing!! I won't be fishing this week, I will be at the Greensboro Saltwater Show. This will be at the Greensboro Coliseum Complex this coming Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. Be sure to come by our booth and say hi. Also, on Friday at 6:00PM we will be giving a seminar on Offshore Bottom Fishing. On Saturday we will be doing it again on Offshore Bottom Fishing at 10:00AM. Now on Sunday, at 12:00Noon, we will be doing a seminar on Gulfstream Fishing. Come on out and join in and bring your questions!!!

That's about all I can think of at this time. If you have any questions or if I can help you in any way, be sure to email or call. We really do enjoy your questions and being able to help out our fellow fishermen. As I have said before, If not for all of you, what I do would be useless!!! Till next time FISH ON!!!Capt. We ran out today near Southport in search of a few winter redfish and came home happy! The redfish seem to have changed from biting on the low or falling tide and are now feeding on the higher tide stage and a good part of the rising tide. They are more in the spring pattern with all of the warm weather we have had. We marked 55 degree water the past 2 days. To our surprise when we launched the boat we saw a ton of finger mullet at the ramp, this is pretty rare for this time of year. After two throws of the net we had more than plenty. As luck would have it the redfish would not have anything to do with the live bait! All they would bite were dark colored red fish magic spinner baits and Berkley Gulp! The shrimp pattern Gulp! in the molting color seemed to work best. The reds are holding tight to structure and weed lines and occasionally you will see a large school wake out in the open water. There have been some nice 30" reds in the shallow water pushing some extremely big wakes. The key to hooking up is being as quiet as possible. On the flats a noise travels a long ways. Try to put the wind to your back and allow it to blow you into the fish. Lots of them are trolling motor shy right now and will wake out when you spook them. If you spook them give them 15 minutes and circle back around. They will usually stage back up where you saw them last. Work your baits slowly and tight on the grass lines for best results. Use these tips while the water is warm and you should come home happy as well!

Once the water cools back down I will post again with a very specific description on how to target the reds when the water is cold!

Offshore the king bite is doing well at Frying Pan Tower. Check the water tower buoy online before you go. If the water temp is around 64 or higher you should have a box full of kings! The sea bass and grouper bite has been great 10 miles and further out. The bigger ledges are not always the best. Key in on the smaller ledges and humps for best results. The blue fin tuna bite has been phenomenal further out. The Ocean Isle boats have been doing great with them.

Hope this helps! Go get em!

TUESDAY 1-17-06: Just got the word!!! Mike at SUPPLY BOAT COMPANY has worked overtime just to get the "YEAH RIGHT" back on the water for the Bluefin Bite we have aquired here off the Southport Beaches.

Mike, what can I say? Thank you just does not seem like enough, you are a true professional and straight up guy, the boating industry could use a lot more like you!!!

Hopefully this is not just a fluke, if it isin't this will be one of the greatest events too happen here in a long time!!! Fluke or not, we will now be after the Bluefins this coming weekend.

Fishermen and fisherwomen, this is for real!!! You have never hooked anything like one of these powerful fish!! They have a way of destroying even the biggest and baddest of tackle!!! If you can go one on one to the finish, you can consider yourself in excellent shape with the stamina of a bodybuilder!!

This is hard to believe, but I think it has finally sunk in!! Bluefin Tuna at Southport, no more having to go to Morehead, no more having to have a bigger boat to reach these fish, no more having to risk life and limb on the shoals at unfamiliar inlets, it's right here in our own back yard!!!

Yes, I am excited, if this doesn't excite you then check your pulse, if you have one and your still not excited, you will need to call your local country club and get yourself a "T" time, because fishing is not your thing!!!

Now is the time to catch the Biggest fish you will probably ever catch. If not the biggest, then probably the most powerful, if not the most powerful, it will be the "baddest" thing you will ever set a hook in!!! So come on to Southport,NC and let us "HOOK YOU UP"!!!

FRIDAY 1-6-06: There hasn't been much fishing going on this week, but, there has been some. But, before I touch base on the fishing, I'll try to remember all the up coming events and give you a run down on those. To start off with, our BOATERS WORLD SEMINARS will resume around March!!!

In February, on the 25th, at VECTOR MARINE in Wilmington, will be the fishing school. The last time I talked to Gary at the FISHERMANS POST, he had a few seats left open. The price of the school is worth the chance to win an 8 ft. Menhaden Net that "YEAH RIGHT CHARTERS" will be raffleing off as a door prize. The net is being donated by our sponsor LEE FISHER NETS out of Tampa, FL. Be sure to go by and see them at the RALEIGH BASS & SALTWATER EXPO. next week and tell them we sent you by!!! We only accept sponsorship from companys we believe in, and we believe they, LEE FISHER NETS, have the finest cast nets we have ever used!!! We will have one at our booth for you to look at at the Saltwater expo.

Speaking of the EXPO. that starts next Friday, January 13th. at Raleigh. Be sure to come by our booth and see Capt. Chris and myself. "PRIVATE BODIE" the fish dog will be there some also.

While at the Expo. be sure to come to our seminars. We would really enjoy having you there. We will be in seminar room "B", in the Graham Building. On Friday, the 13th, at 1:00PM we will be talking about BLUE WATER, (GULFSTREAM) BIG GAME FISHING, this will cover such species as Yellowfin Tuna, Wahoo, Mahi-Mahi, Bill Fish. Now, on Saturday, the 14th. at 10:00AM, we will be talking about OFFSHORE BOTTOM FISHING. This will cover bottom fishing, how to find good places to bottom fish before you ever leave the house, Grouper Tactics, and tips on how to anchor. On Sunday, the 14th. at 12:00 noon, we will be doing the bottom fishing again just in case you can't make it on Saturday. Come on down to Raleigh and join us!!! If we are not talking on a subject you are interested in, I am sure someone there will be covering the type fishing you are interested in!!!

Now, as for the fishing: The grouper are biting well about 40 miles offshore. The black bass are biting like "bulldogs on a rampage" about 20 miles out. The King Mackeral are anybodys guess right now. The water has cooled down in the Tower area, and no one has been able to get out to look for them because of the weather. The only decent day we had this week was spent on bottom and grouper!!!

The speckled Trout fishing has been real good this winter!!!
It should still be doing good.

The Redfish fishing in the shallows is good!!

Striper fishing, the last time I went, was terrible. Let me rephrase that, the trip was real nice, the catching was non-existant!! The recent rains has kept the waters dirty and as I have said before, you can catch fish in dirty water, you can catch fish in cold water, but in cold and dirty water, it's all but impossible!!! It is past time for them, but the conditions need to improve!!!

Now, get a load of this, the reports are that the Bluefin Tuna are supposed to have been sighted to the East of the Tower. Also, heard of one being caught off Carolina Beach this week!! Now this is what I have been told, I do not have any hardcore evidence, but was told it came from a reliable source. They have gone somewhere though, the bite at Morehead has been off this year. Either they are all gone, been caught, or are using a different area this winter. Nothing is impossible in this fishing game!!! Would that not be awesome if we were to pick up the winter Bluefin Fishery here off of Southport!! Most likely too good to be true, but, let's keep our fingers crossed!!!

The "YEAH RIGHT" has now got all new full curtains. We came up with a different idea for curtains that should stop all the spray from entering the boat. Capt. Chris and I are really excited about these curtains. We have never seen any like them, and the testing so far has proved to be great!!! We will be finishing up the routine winter maintenance today, and next week she will be going to SUPPLY MARINE in Supply to get her engines updated for the up coming season. If you have a HONDA or YAMAHA engine and need service by someone that knows these two engines and knows what he is doing, see Mike at SUPPLY MARINE. The man has impressed me with his knowledge and expertise he has shown on my HONDAS. After the first trip there, my engines were finally set up and run the way they were supposed to run!!!! Keep up the good work Mike!!

As the fishing picks up, or, gets worse, you can find out about it right here. We pass on any info. we get and if we go fishing, let you know what we have done, be it good or bad!!! Posting fishing reports this time of year can be real tough, but we will do what we can when we get the reports. Hope to see you in Raleigh next weekend!!! Till next time, FISH ON!!! Capt. Butch Foster, Capt. Chris Foster, and "Private Bodie" the fish dog says, HI!!!!. YEAH RIGHT SPORTFISHING CHARTERS, SOUTHPORT,NC. (910)845-2004. www.yeahrightcharters.com

End of December report:
We had a awesome trip today. Took Hylan on some winter redfish hunting and the fish were there in huge schools. A 27" fish was brought in first and was released. A while longer Hylan hooked a nice red that you could tell was a bit larger. Finally got him in the boat and he went 10lbs on the boga and was 31" long. Stuck in a tag, snapped a few pics and he kicked of very strong. All fish were caught on jerk baits. We easily saw over 100 fish in a foot of water!

I will be out again tomorow and will have a chance to fish more of the tide stage.I have charters for the entire week (except Friday) thru saturday and will have a bunch of reports and pics.. Hopefully another 31 incher comes along! They are awesome in a foot of water.

The redfish are on fire. Went today for a few hours and right from the start it was on! The first redfish went 28" He was tons of fun on 10lb test and made some nice runs in less than a foot of water. Got him in the boat snapped a pic, tagged and released him. These fish are fat and healthy. We ended up with 6 reds total in a half day, all on artificals. We saw over 100 fish easily!

The redfish action is just heating up and will stay like the ALL WINTER LONG! The cooler the water the bigger the schools! Lets go fishing!

WEDNESDAY 12-28-05: Today, Capt. Chris and I along with our friend Jason Brown from Asheboro/Holden Beach were on a mission to find the elusive winter King Mackeral that stay on the move off our coast this time of year. After a study of a water temp. chart, we determined we had about three areas to shoot for to find water in the 66-68* range. This is a relatively good temp break for winter fishing kings. Warmer, of coarse can be better, but one main factor is the presence of bait, which is not always necessary, but better, warmer water, no bait is not as good as cooler water with bait ,and vice-versa. No wonder I'm about 1/2 crazy, I'm not real sure myself what I just said, but this is what you have to factor in to find these winter fish!!!

We stopped at the Frying Pan Tower, this is where they were last week. Water there was too cold. We moved off to the east. The temp there was 66*, good enough to hold kings but the scope looked like the dead sea. OK, like I said before, sometimes the temp break will hold the fish.

We dropped in some baits to give it a try for a little. And things happened just as I was expecting, nothing!! Now a friend of ours left the dock this morning as we did at 5:00AM, and was going to the SW of the Tower. We had not heard anything from him so we figured he was having the same success we were having.

We now were torn between two places, We could go to the other side and help Capt. Derek find some fish, or head North where the temp chart had shown some 69* water. Knowing the warmer water "should" be better, we elected to head North. We had been riding about 45 minutes when I barely heard Capt. Derek on the radio giving us a call. I could not get back to him so I checked the GPS and from where we were to where he was going was 41 miles. I told Capt. Chris and Jason he has probably found some fish, but we are now committed to our origional plan of attack!!

As we headed to the North, I noticed as I moved to the
North West the water was colder, so I kept moving to the NE. Here we had a "mod relief" on the chart to the NE. As I arrived at the numbers, I pulled the throttles back on the "YEAH RIGHT" and looked it over, not bad, I told Capt. Chris and Jason. Let's give this a try.

In went the first bait, "FISH ON" was the almost immediate responce. "YEAH BABY" replied Capt. Chris. This is a good way to start the next years quota on the "FEDERAL KING PERMIT". The action was hot and fast, I set the "YEAH RIGHT" in a circle mode, and it was on!!!

We caught a couple of boxes of kings and then, not to be greedy, anchored up on some bottom fish for the table. We picked up enough Grey Snapper, B-Liners, Black Bass, Pinky's, and Amorings for tonights dinner for our two familys and then we pulled anchor and headed back.

Now, upon arrival at the "FISH HOUSE" where we sell the King Mackeral, yeah, they sell King Mackeral to the fish markets up north. They have it on a lot of restaurant menus up there, just as down here we get salmon, go figure! Guess it falls back to the old saying, "you don't want something untill you can't get it"!! But, as I was saying, we found out at the fish house that we had made a decent call, not great, but decent. That's part of this job called fishing. Yeah, I thought it was dream job too until I got into it full time. I have a whole new respect for the fishing industry, it's a tough way to make a living. You are at the mercy of the ocean and the weather, and neither one has a concience or picks favorites, and can get real angry real fast!!!

In closing, the kings are still out there, the bottom fishing is good, the weather patterns are making it tough to get a day you can get out there though. But, once in a while we get a break. Just keep check on the offshore weather forecast, watch the local weather for stabilizing weather patterns and grab every opportunity and GO GET'EM!!!

It is time for the striped bass to be in the river, unless they too are running late this year as everything else has done!!! As before, "it's called fishing, not catching" We will be after them this weekend, will let you know if we find them or not. Just keep check here, we will let you know how the fishing is, you may not want to hear the truth, but that is what we report, no matter how bad it hurts!!! You can see the pic's on my site!!Y'all come see us!! Till next time, FISH ON!!! Capt. Butch Foster, Capt. Chris Foster, and "Private Bodie" the fish dog says HI!!! SATURDAY,12-23-05: Well, the weather decided to give us a break so Capt. Chris and I along with an old friend I had not seen in years, Eric Ross, from Pinehurst left out this morning on a southerly course in search of King Mackeral. We found some 66 degree water about 35 miles offshore with bait schools in the area. A lot of the fish that were there were too small to meet the 24 inch length limit so we released more than we were able to retain. But we were able to complete the qualification of our Federal King Mackeral Permits today, glad to have that behind us!! The King Mackeral Capt. Chris is holding in the picture was a NC Citation at 33 lbs.

Now if you like to catch Bonitos, False Albacores, Boneheads, Fat Alberts, or whatever you call them, there are all you want right now offshore!!! You can spoon them or bait them, they don't care, they will accomodate you!!! The bottom fishing is doing well too. Also, be sure to check out the "BIG" shark we invited to a photo shoot before we released him!!!

So, in closing, if you can get a good weather day, go for it!! The fishing offshore is good!!! Just grab a few boxes of cigar minnows and some king rigs and go have some fun. They are there waiting for you!!! It's late, I'm tired, "Private Bodie" the fish dog has already "crashed and burned" as have Capt. Chris, and I am just before doing the same!! I will let the pictures tell the rest of the story. Be sure to see them on my site !!!Till next time, FISH ON!!, Capt. Butch Foster, Capt. Chris Foster, and "Private Bodie" the fish dog says HI!!!. SATURDAY 12-10-05: Today we were fishing with Brian and Lynn Stevens from the Raleigh, NC area. I was not sure how things were going to materialize today, the weather station at Frying Pan was giving us a report of 6' wave height with a 5' swell. As we were heading out to do some bottom fishing on some of the inshore rocks, I checked the weather buoy again and now it reported only a 5' swell every 10 seconds with the winds switching 180*. I knew the switching winds was good for the ride back, and the wave height being absent from the report meant we only had a rolling swell. That translates into a good ride and good fishing, especially since we wanted some King Mackeral!! Now, the weather buoy is "real time data", not a prediction, so you can base your plan of attack with confidence on its report. Don't try to "second guess"it. If you are at the dock and it reports 20 knot winds and a big sea and not a leaf is moving at the dock, don't waste your time and fuel trying to go out there, it IS doing what it says!!! OK, the conditions have changed offshore, let's go King Mackeral fishing!! I pushed the throttles down and set the "YEAH RIGHT" at a good cruise of about 18 knotts, this gave us a good ride that made it hard to stay awake!! In about an hour, I pulled back to a good trolling speed and checked out the first rock/ledge, put out some baits, I told Capt. Chris, our mate again today. He put out the first cigar minnow, reached for the second rod when the first rods clicker started to scream, FISH ON!!! came the cry from the cockpit, and immediately our crew went into action, "Private Bodie" included!! This scenerio went on several more times, we put half of our King Mackeral limit into the boat before we were able to get two rods out. Finally, we were able to get three rods out and finished up our limit of Kings. Now, with our King Mackeral limit met, we were going bottom fishing. We were just starting to leave to go to the bottom when we noticed a fellow boater in distress and we responded immediately to assist. He was dead in the water and could not contact "SEA TOW" so we radioed the USCG and got them to contact "SEA TOW" and got them in route. We were going to stay with him until help arrived, but due to the kindness of the boat and crew of "MIDNIGHT WIND" they knew we had a charter and told us they would relinquish our position for us so we could complete our charter trip. I want to commend these guys, this is the way we are supposed to work together out on the water, they took over and kept the USCG updated every 30 minutes until help arrived on the scene!!! "Midnight Wind" if you EVER need any assistance on the water, the "YEAH RIGHT" is only a radio call away!!! THANKS AGAIN GUYS!!! Now, we were able to return to our fishing for today. About 2 miles away from our present position I knew of a ledge that usally had a good bottom fish population on it most of the time. We checked the tide schedule and we had about 2 hours before slack tide. Which worked out good, because we spent about 30 minutes with the disabled boat, we gave our fishermen an extra hour on their trip, I felt that was only fair!! (When the tide goes slack the fish will stop biting). Hoping the fish were there, that would give us enough time to limit out on those also. Well, THE FISH WERE THERE!!! As soon as we dropped down, the action began, and before it was time to head home, we had all the fish boxes in the boat full of triggerfish, Black Bass, B-Liners(vermillion snapper), Grey Snapper(grunts), amorings, sharks, spottails, King Mackeral, even caught false albacore and some Grouper, but they were under the legal length limit, the Grouper were, there is no limit on "boneheads". Now, that is quite an accomplishment for just two anglers, I hope they are not too sore today!! Brian and Lynn, we sure hope you two had half as much fun as Capt. Chris and I did, Thanks for the opportunity to fish with with you both!!! Another good day on the water with plenty of fish to catch and two GREAT people to share it with. Life is great!!! May GOD BLESS everyone as he has me!!! Till next time, FISH ON!!! Capt. Butch Foster, Capt. Chris Foster, and "Private Bodie" the fish dog, says HI!!!. See the pic's on my site!! WEDNESDAY 12-7-05: You know, I guess when you have the fishing disease, there not only is no hope for you, but sometimes you behave in a manner that is indescribable. We, Capt. Chris and I only had an hour or two that we could go fishing so we decided to see if the black bass had made their apperance yet on the inshore ledges and rocks. There is some gray trout still around. Only one problem though, you have to GET THROUGH THE BLACK BASS TO GET TO THEM!!!!!THE SEA BASS ARE HERE!!!! Capt. Chris tied on 5 hooks and was catching them 5 at a time!!! There are some small ones out there also, just keep moving around, and you will get some good ones. Now we didn't catch any of the 4 to 5 pounders you usually get in the spring offshore, but for no longer than we had to fish, the catch was respectable, and I am sure there are some BIG BOYS out there too!!!! We would and could have caught more Black Bass but we pulled off of them trying to catch some gray trout, we did manage to get one trout out from under the Blue Fish, they are there also!!!This Saturday is predicted to be nice weather, so come on down and catch some fish!!!! Till next time, FISH ON!!! Capt. Butch Foster, Capt. Chris Foster, and "Private Bodie" the fish dog, says HI!!!. YEAH RIGHT SPORTFISHING CHARTERS, SOUTHPORT,NC. MONDAY 12-5-05; Today we were fishing with our good friend John Smith from Tennessee and his two sons John and Matthew. We were expecting to get some king mackeral before we went bottom fishing, but, the water had cooled 4* from saturday and everything was gone that was there then. The weather was not the best and with rougher conditions predicted for later that day I elected not to go any farther offshore. So, we decided to go to the bottom and light line for kings. The bottom fish were biting fair, we caught some of the biggest joltheads (knobbedhead porgys) I have ever seen. Nice triggerfish too! Several grouper and 3 limits of grey snapper. Now this sounds like a normal fishing trip, nothing could be farther from that!!!!! We were heading back to the dock and was about 18 miles out when we saw the USCG SEARCH & RESCUE HELICOPTER!!!! Capt. Chris and I said to each other, someone must be in trouble, I had the radio turned down earlier due to a bunch of noise and had forgotten to turn it back up, I noticed they were turning towards us so I turned it up, thinking they were searching for someone that looked like us and I could let them know that I had not seen anyone. Turns out they were looking for us!!!! I know now that those EPIRB units do work, mabey too good!!! This is what I and the service dept. at ACR has determined happened: On your bracket there is a magnet that holds the activation sensor in an open position, well my bracket had cracked, allowing the magnet to pull away about 1/8 inch. We came off a wave pretty hard and that triggered the unit, the unit itself was not activated, this caused it to malfunction. You may want to check you bracket on yours and make sure the magnet is AGAINST your unit with no gaps. If that magnet pulls away and your unit gets wet, it will malfunction and send a signal, and according to the service tech. at ACR, it may even go off in a high humidity situation, just be sure the magnet is still contacting your unit!!!Other than that, we had a normal good day of fishing with some GREAT GUYS!!! Ronda, you were right, they kept Capt. Chris and I laughing all day!!! By the way Ronda, your dad said he wanted us to "wear them down" catching fish, just ask them if we succeded!!! FRIDAY12-2-05: Can you believe it? It's the 2nd of December, 2005 is all but gone!!! The wind has blown most of the week, there were a couple of days it wasn't too bad but the "YEAH RIGHT" is in the shop this week getting fitted with new curtains for the up coming year. We are exploring new grounds, I have studied the wind effects and watched the side spray and Capt. Chris and I have designed a set of curtains that we believe will stop 99% of this spray and quite possibly 100 %. So, this means we have not been out this week, and have not talked to anyone who has. I did get a report of a fisherman catching 10 speckled trout yesterday. The National Weather Service has a report of decent weather for Saturday, their report at this time is for: SAT; NE winds 5 to 10 knots switching to SE later seas 2 to 4 feet near shore::::: Offshore winds variable 10 knots or less seas 3 to 4 feet::: Sunday looks bad at this point with winds predicted in the 25 to 35 knot range. The gray trout should still be around on the inshore spots as are the specks and redfish inside. I expect the black bass to be making their yearly inshore showing on the rocks and ledges in the 10 mile range. Yeah, it's winter time, but there is fish to be caught year round, just bundle up and get out there and get them. You don't stop eating in the winter, and they don't stop either!!! Till next time, FISH ON!!! Capt. Butch Foster, Capt. Chris Foster, and "Private Bodie" the fish dog, says HI and FISH ON!!! YEAH RIGHT CHARTERS, SOUTHPORT,NC. (910)845-2004. www.yeahrightcharters.com

SATURDAY 11-26-05: We have been talking lately about the "window of opportunity" well today it was opened just enough for us and one of my long time friends, Dale Foster and his wife, Ella, from Lexington,NC to squeeze through. Headed toward the horseshoe and found the water there too cold, around 63*. Moved on to the SSE until we reached water around 100 ft. and a temperature of 68 -70 degrees. Here we found a few king mackeral and a few bottomfish. The fishing would have most likely been a little better farther offshore, but, the seas were built up enough that we decided to stick it out here. We were fishing in a stiff NNE wind and a good 5 to 6 ft. sea. But you see, Dale and I go back more years than either one of us want to admit, and from years past fishing and hunting trips, I knew he was up to the task at hand!!! Ella, his wife, hangs in there right by his side!!!! I wouldn't have called it the best weather for fishing, but anytime two old fishing friends get together, you don't let the little things ruin a good day of fishing!!!! Hang in there, one day we will have a calm day to go fishing !!! Ella, I was honored to be able to put you on your first king mackeral, and it was a good sized one to start with. Now, as for Dale, we were getting ready to call it a day, that's when it happened!! A fish hit the "light line" we had out. We don't know what it was and we never will. You see, Dale fought this fish for nearly an hour, a decision was made to tighten the drag and try to get it up because for nearly an hour had passed and by now it was getting dark and soon I was not going to be able to see the line and be able to keep the boat in position to keep the fish along side, and in the type seas we were fishing in, that was a very important part of getting this fish in. Dale had the fish at boat side many times but could not get it up!!! So the drag was increased, and it looked as though we may become victorious, then yes it happened, the rod flew up and we figured the line had broken but instead, the 4x strong treble hooks were straightened out and the hooks pulled loose. We will never know what it was, but we will always know it was the biggest thing we had on the hook in a while!!! Look at it this way, it will just be bigger the next time you have the chance to go one on one with him again, and he's still out there, waiting for the next battle, and next time, he might not be as lucky as this time!!!Capt. Chris and I really enjoyed seeing y'all again!! We had a good time, it brought back some old memories, and they were good ones!!! Keep in touch and till next time, FISH ON!!! Capt. SATURDAY 11-19-05: Today we had the honor to share the "YEAH RIGHT" with the father son team of Hal and John Workman from Georgia. We wanted to get offshore to get some king mackeral, but as it happens so much this time of year we were bound by mother nature to the inshore reefs due to the N NE winds. We found that the previous cold front that had passed and the winds shifting to the East made fishing tough!!! But we kept on checking spot after spot and at the end of the day we had two limits of grey trout, nearly two limits of bluefish, some virginia mullet, and a few black bass. We hooked a couple of big redfish but they pulled the hooks shortly after hookup!!! We had a good day of cool weather fishing with some great folks!! Fishing on the inside is getting tougher as the waters cool on down, but be patient and fish methodically and slower and you should be rewarded for your efforts!!! When you get a "window of opportunity" take off offshore and experience some of the fantastic winter fishing that is available off our coast here in Southport,NC!!!. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ----------
WEDNESDAY 11-2-05: I don't have a "hands on" report as I had to take a few days for routine maintenance on the YEAH RIGHT, its tackle, and its crew. The big fish we have been hooking up with lately has demanded our attention to details. We will be back at it no later than Friday, then we will have a personal report for you. But my fishing report sources tell me that the kings are "chewing " on anything they see swimming in the tower area.Live bait is getting hard to get on the beach, but don't worry, frozen cigar minnows are working just fine. So stop by DUTCHMAN CREEK BAIT & TACKLE, grab several boxes and go fishing. Their phone # (910)457-1221. I know from personal experience a few days ago they were biting on the East side!!! Also in the tower area, the bottom fish are saying let's GIT-R-DONE!!! To our SW and west, the 65 foot hole, jungle, atlantic ledges and surrounding hot spots are producing kings as well. The spots have been biting good. You might want to try a falling tide in the Coast Guard Channel area in the Cape Fear River. Be sure NOT to anchor up between the RED and GREEN CHANNEL MARKERS, and block the Coast Guard Boats from coming and going, this tends to cause bad results!!! Also, if they are not biting on this end, the Lockwood Folly area has been producing spots as well. The Lighthouse Rocks chain is starting to produce some good catches of grey trout, respectible size black bass, and we have already scored our first CITATION SIZED RED FISH of the year and have had several more hooked but they did the "quick release" for us!!! The flounder are still biting fair and the grouper are still at your favorite king holes in the 70-80' range, but you better get them now for they won't be there much longer before they migrate back to the 100+ depth ranges to spend the winter. We have been catching some of the bigger Thresher Sharks in the 110-120' depths about 42 miles offshore. The B-Liners(vermillion snapper) are "stacked up" good offshore. I haven't been or heard from the stream but I predict the Wahoo bite should still be good. Come on down and get in on the fall fishing, you will have to do a little adjusting to a different strategy as this year has not been nomal at all. But be flexible, and you too will catch your share of fall fish. The weather is cooler, the hot, humid days of summer are gone, it's just down right NICE!!! I hope I didn't forget anything, probably did!! Just give me a call(910)845-2004 or email captainbutchf@earthlink.net if I didn't help you on the type of fish you want to catch and I will do my best to find out for you what's going on with those also!!! SUNDAY,10-30-05: As the old saying goes"what a difference a day can make", and that is so often the case in this sport of offshore fishing!!! This morning we had a 15 knot NW wind with the prediction of a dying out wind later that day. This gave us following sea to a "trough" to run in making for a fairly comfortable ride out to the tower area. Today we were fishing with Kenneth Gilley, Richard Brood, Mike Williams, Scotty Noah, Marjo Deweese, and Brad Weeks, all from the Thomasville,NC area. We were in pursuit of bottom fish today, but , I don't think Kenneth and Richard were expecting what they had coming up today. That's what makes offshore fishing so exciting, you never know what you are going to hook up with out there!!!! The picture in the center is Richard with his Thresher Shark, and the picture on the right is Kenneth with his Thresher Shark, these fish were HUGE, estimated in the 300 to 400 pound range. There were many big and powerful fish hooked today. We were having 50 pound test line being broken today like sewing thread. We even had one reel to get its gears stripped out. We caught American Reds and Grouper, although they were just an inch or two short from being legal size. We limited out on good size B-Liners (vermillion Snapper), we had black bass, amorings, grey snapper, pinkys,King Mackeral and SHARKS!!!!!!! All I can say is you should have been there, you don't know what you are missing if you don't fish for these saltwater fish!!! Just ask these guys!!! The Spots are finally starting to make a good showing, We went for some Friday evening with good luck. The trout and Red fish along with some black bass are beginning to congregate on the inshore reefs now. The kings are biting good in the offshore areas where you find the bait and water temps. are much warmer out there. We have had a BIG temperature drop on the beach water in just two days, this, along with all the gill nets on the beach, has made the pogys and kings real hard to catch. I wouldn't waste a lot of time looking for it, they are hitting frozen cigar minnows just fine offshore!!! The grouper have been biting well, but it won't be much longer untill they retreat to their winter holding grounds in 100+ water depths. In the gulfstream, and "stream fingers" you will find the wahoo willing to bite. On the inside, I have been told the Red fish are doing well also. Come on down and get in on the great fall fishing we have here on the southeast coast in October and November, I don't think you will be dissapointed. Be sure to dress warm though, it can be cold in the mornings!!! Check out Pic's on my site!!! Till next time, FISH ON!!! Capt. Butch Foster, Capt. 10-23-05 Sunday
We fished with Rosilea & Tommy Wrenn of Lexington,NC today. They operate Lexington Fire Extinguisher Sales & Service,Inc. and even have accounts down here in Southport, for honest service you can depend on, give them a call at (336)236-6804. After locating bait just west of Yaupon Pier the crew of the Yeah Right headed out in search of a King Mackerel or two. Not to be let down, as soon as the first line entered the water a King about 20lbs. "skyrocketed" on the propwash bait peeling off just enough drag to get us excited as he dropped the bait and "cackled" his way off to another meal. We continued trolling around AR-425 for a couple of more hours to have several other short strikes and one 18lb. Kingfish. As the forcasted 15 knot winds seemed to lay down to about 10 knots the Yeah Right moved on offshore about 6 miles to find multiple strikes and another King Mackerel in the 20lb range and a couple of Sharks. After releasing two Blacktip sharks about 30lbs each and boating the Kingfish the Yeah Right ventured onward finding a good concentration of bait around Tom McGlammery Reef where Tommy masterfully reeled up another 20+lb King Mackerel. Check out pic's on my site!!! It sounds like the Kings are finally starting to heat up on their annual fall bite(hope the offshore hurricane doesn't mess things up again) Reports of Spots beginning to show up in the river and nearshore. FRIDAY 10-7-05; The weather has not been good at all down here for fishing. We cancelled Thursday and Friday's trips. We thought we would be able to do Saturday's trip, but that has not materalized either. We had to cancel that one also. Hopefully things will settle down next week and we can get back out. If it doesn't quit raining so much we are going to have to restock the ocean with freshwater fish. When things do settle down and get back to normal all you spot fishermen and fisherwomen need to get ready. I don't think it will be much longer till the spots are here. There have already been a few caught off the piers, but the fall run is not happening yet, but it is time. The king Mackeral bite should be on in full swing. As long as the water temps. stay in the 70 degree range, the king bite should remain hot. It was getting started good then the wind shifted to the EAST, and that was the end of that. When the NNE winds return or other winds that are not out of the EAST, and not blowing 40+ knots is all it should take!!!! The Gulfstream bite should be good also, it is time!!! We did go out and mess around in the Cape Fear River Wednesday, all we managed was a few small croakers and pig fish and one nice grey trout. We looked at the ocean side and it was one of the few times I have ever seen the river water cleaner than the ocean. The winds have really got the water stirred up. Yes, I know, it is depressing, and I hate to report such negative results. But it is getting that time of year when things start to change in a hurry which means it can also settle down and clean up just as fast as it dirtyed up and most likely it will. I was going to say that you could fish the river and creeks but everything down here has flooded today, so, don't look for them to be very good fishing until all this flood water gets out of here. It sounds much worse than it really is. If these fronts get out of here, give it a couple days and the fishing will start up again. I am predicting things to be getting back on track by the middle of next week, hope I am right. Don't forget about the fishing school at VECTOR MARINE in Wilmington, NC on FEBRUARY 25th. If you haven't already, call Gary at(910)452-6378 or email gary@fishpost.net for more info. and get signed up. Capt. Chris and I will be there and would be honored to try to help you out if you have some areas you are not sure about. If we don't know the answer to some of your questions, there will be a host of captains there, I am sure one of them will be able to help out. Also, we will be teahing rigging techniques at rigging stations. You will be doing "hands on" rigging and will be able to keep the rigs you make!!! The PIG PICKIN' and just being able to talk fishing is worth the price of admission alone, but, don't wait, seating is limited and subject to fill up fast. Let's all try not to go insane until this weather lays out, and if I can help you out in any way, if you have a question, just want to talk fishing, or have a suggestion, be sure to give me a call or email me captainbutchf@earthlink.net Till next time, FISH ON!!! THURSDAY 9-29-05: You may have noticed I haven't been here for a while, the server that carries this site has had a bug and was down about all week, but, WE' RE BACK, FINALLY!!! The king bite has been good on the beach this week when you could get out. Tuesday was a little rough, but the fish bit. The piers have been on fire this week with double digit king catches being reported. We were booked to fish the US OPEN this weekend ,but some emergency surgery(not on me), nipped that in the bud at the last minute!!! The winds are reported to blow 30+ knots from the NE, beach should be fine, but don't let it give you that false sence that it is calm offshore, and if you venture out very far, PLEASE BE CAREFUL!!! It can get nasty real quick!!! OK you local fishermen, you know who you are, the ones fishing the US OPEN, let's show everybody that Southport is a force too be reckoned with when it comes to king mackeral fishing, GOOD LUCK TO ALL IN THE US OPEN!!!! CATCH 'EM UP!!!! Oh Yeah, be sure to sign up for the FISHERMANS POST FISHING SCHOOL to be held at VECTOR MARINE in WILMINGTON, NC on February 25th. Seating is limited, so give Gary a call @ (910)452-6378 or email gary@fishpost.net for more information. Don't wait or all the seats will be gone!! Capt. Chris and I will be doing a Blue Water Seminar and a Bottom Fishing Seminar and between those we will be at a rigging station showing you how to rig up for your favorite species. So come on, get signed up and come on out, bring your questions, and enjoy the PIG PICKIN' and get honed up for the upcoming fishing season in 2006!!! Till next time, FISH ON!!! Capt. FRIDAY 9-16-05: Today was the first day we could get back offshore after the hurricane. The water all the way to the tower was milky green with a brown tint due to all the stirred up sand. The flying fish that had been so prevelant offshore along with the bait fish were gone. The bottom fish, as usual, were willing to bite somewhat. Pictured in the 1st. picture starting from left are Kevin Byers, Doug Hilliard,Lynn lewis,Wayne Owen,David Collins, and Terry Jones. We were hoping for some king mackeral and/or mahi-mahi, but it was obvious these fish will need a few days to recover after the blow. The only thing a light line was producing today was sharks. With no bait in the area to hold the fish, we opted to stay with the bottom fish. Sometimes switching game plans can mean the difference between fish and no fish!! Out here in mother natures world, we sometimes have to play the cards you are dealt, and today was one of those days. We still had a good time and got plenty of fish for a fish fry!!!
SATURDAY,9-17-05: This morning we left SOUTH HARBOUR MARINA with Rusty Bost and Gary Saine to do a day of bottom fishing. This is the middle picture. We started off SW of the tower. The first stop and the first drop boated a 13 lb. Gag Grouper. But that one turned out to be the only keeper grouper on that rock. We caught some more fish here, grey snapper, B-liners, Black Bass, etc. Then the tide went slack and they quit biting. They were already slowing down before then so I decided to make a move to another ledge about 10 miles to the SE. We got here and got anchored up , and here we were able to finish up our day with a good catch of fish even though the water was still pretty dirty. But it was obvious to me that the water was starting to get back to normal and the fish seem to be getting more hungry as the days progress. The water is cleaner on the SW side of the tower and today I seen some bait and a few flying fish starting to show back up. the fall fishing is getting ready to explode any day!!!! Another great day of fishing on the "YEAH RIGHT" !!!!! Guys, we enjoyed it, we hope you did also!!!
SUNDAY,9-18-05: OK, here we go!!! Today we had the guys from DC and MD back with us, we even had John's best friend James from Hawaii with us today. The group today consisted of John Blakeney,Vander Covington,Ray Johnson,Tony Fouch, and James Young. We went back to the ledge South of the tower today. The fish were biting fair, but not like I wanted them to. Well, I knew of a ledge on the SW side about 10 miles from where we were and I just believed we would do better there. I don't know why, I guess after you do this long enough you sorta get a 6th sense or something, I don't know!! Well we pulled anchor and left out for the ledge. When we got there and got anchored up, IT WAS ON!!!!!!!!!!!! Take a look at the shark Vander pulled to the surface, this was a BIG SHARK!!!! At this ledge we were catching fish two at a time, some of the biggest B-liners I have seen in years, Huge Trigger fish, Big Grey snapper,Tony caught a nice Yellowtail snapper, John, he was the trigger fish king with the most, but Vander caught the biggest one. Oh yeah, take a look at Vander's Hog Nose Snapper he also caught!!! we even picked up a few Grouper here. Tony gave us a good compliment today I would like to share with you; He told us that they go on the 24 hour fishing trips where you ride out for three hours, fish for eighteen hours then ride back, but he said we catch MORE FISH fishing on the "YEAH RIGHT" in a ten hour trip than we do on the 24 hour trips fishing for 18 hours. I don't know, mabey we just try harder, THANKS Tony!!! The fish you see here were caught by 31/2 fishermen, and that's all I'm going to tell about that one!! Guys, this is what it's all about, as always, we had a great time Capt. Chris and I were still laughing last night at some of the days events. You can check out the pic's on my site. We would like to take a moment to let all of our fishermen and fisherwomen know that we appreciate all of you, for without all of you, what we do would be useless!!! THANK YOU ALL FOR YOUR SUPPORT!!!! Till next time, FISH ON!!! Capt. Butch Foster, Capt. Chris Foster, and Bodie (the fish dog) says HI!!! YEAH RIGHT SPORTFISHING CHARTERS, Southport, NC. FRIDAY 9-2-05: Capt. Chris and I met up with Niles Elber, Richard Pellack, and Mike Fuller for a day of fishing, and a day of fishing it was. I'll go ahead and get started; Niles invited a 500+ pound Shark to a photo shoot. This was a hand full to get into the boat, but, It took all five of us to get it back into the water . Congratulations Niles, that was an awesome fish!!!! While we were grouper fishing, a Mahi-Mahi swam by the boat, Capt. Chris,(who was our mate today) grabbed a king rod and deployed a live bait in his direction, it wasn't long till he had to check it out, well he checked a little too close, Richard Pellack is pictured holding his Mahi-Mahi. Since we were anchored grouper fishing, the duo made several laps around the boat, but this time the fisherman came out victorious, another fine catch and some good steaks for the grill!!! Well, not to be out done, Mike Fuller is picture holding a not too common catch of his own, he pulled from the deep a Hog Snapper, another fine catch and great on the table as well!!!! Niles is also pictured with a Scamp Grouper, one of several grouper we caught that day . Also we caught some of the biggest grey snapper and B-Liners I have seen in a while. Included in todays catch were a few trigger fish and black bass. As always, we really enjoy it when Niles,Rich, and Mike can make it down to Southport. Over the years they have come to be some good friends, IT WAS A PLEASURE TO SEE Y'ALL AGAIN. Till next time, FISH ON!!!! Capt. Butch Foster, Capt. Chris Foster, and Bodie (the fish dog ) says HI. THURSDAY 7- 29-05: Before I get to todays fishing report I would like to thank all of you who have e-mailed and called me to make sure I was OK since I hadn't up dated my reports in about a week. That means a lot to me to know that I have such a close following on my reports and web site. Again, THANK
YOU, for without all of you, all this would be useless!!!!! Today we left South Harbour Marina with Mark Sunyak, Betty Sunyak, Jacob Sunyak, Rachel Sunyak, Liz Patterson, and Hillary Balsega. This was their first ever trip on the ocean fishing. It was an honor that they picked my charter boat for their trip!!!! We went to a wreck today and it was awesome. We were hooking jacks that were breaking 100 lb. test leader. We had barracudas hitting our baits and jumping 20 feet in the air. We had one hit and jumped so high that when it landed it threw water on everybody in the boat. This 'cuda took Betty Sunyak nearly an hour to land on king tackle. But she got him in and she was able to get a NC Saltwater Citation for this fish to hang on her wall back in PA. You should have seen the show we saw when the king mackeral we had on was attacked by the barracudas and the big jacks moved in and took the pieces away from the 'cudas, it was amazing to see. Later, we did get a king mackeral to the boat before the 'cudas got it!! Also, feeding along with the jacks and 'cudas were some rays, these were black on top and white on the bottom, feeding on the bait that was holding the other fish. These dudes were probably in the 100 lb. range. Just another awesome day on the water with an awesome group of fishermen and fisherwomen. THANK YOU for fishing with us. Till next time, FISH ON!!! WEDNESDAY 7-27-05: Today we picked up Steve Brown, Jason Brown, Jay Boyles, Tommy Mcleod, Chasity Russel, and Jodi Hatley at South Harbour Marina for a day of bottom fishing. We stopped on a offshore wreck to jig up some live cigar minnows and we put out a light line while there getting bait and it didn't take long for a 'cuda to jump all over it. It put up a good fight with a lot or acrobatic jumps and runs. Put out another line and this time Jason was greeted with an amoco jack. Ask him how those fish fight!!!! From there we proceded to the bottom grounds in hopes of finding some willing bottom fish. It was an eventful day with a lot of willing fish ready to make the ride back to the marina with us. Jason even caught a larger jack while we were grouper fishing!!! As you can see, we had a good catch of a variety of fish. Good people and good times, throw in a few fish as an added bonus, what more could you ask for in a day on the high seas fishing!!!! It was fun guys, Till next time, FISH ON!!!! Capt. Butch Foster, Capt. Chris Foster, Bodie "the fish dog", says HI!!!. Check out pic's on my site. YEAH RIGHT SPORTFISHING CHARTERS, Southport, NC. (910)845-2004. www.yeahrightcharters.com

Saturday 7-16-05: Capt. Chris and I met up with David Gorsline, Bobby Smith, Bobby and Beau Williams, and Rocky Hamby at South Harbour Marina and we headed offshore for a day of fishing. We were met with some pretty rough conditions in the channel, when asked if they were comfortable with the conditions the responce I got let me know that I had some seasoned offshore fishermen on board. Once we broke through and crossed frying pan shoals to the east side the running was good. We were able to push the "YEAH RIGHT" throttles up to a speed of 28 knots and the ride was one that rocks you to sleep on the slow rolling swells. OK, upon inquiring about todays preference of fish I soon learned my work was cut out for me. Today was going to be a variety of fish...... Lets start with a few bottom fish, the tide was about to go slack, and any good bottom fisherman knows that when it goes slack the bottom fish shut off. Stopped on one spot, small fish, next spot, small fish, we repeated this scenerio several more times then "BAM", here they are!!!! Fished for these a little while then as predicted, the tide went slack and the fish shut off. Allright, let's troll until the tide turns. We started picking up some kings, but the action was slow and spotty! Bobby Williams told we "I have always wanted to catch a dolphin, but never have", well Bobby, you can't say that any more!!!!!!!! David Gorsline and Rocky Hamby said "we want something big and pulls hard", ask these guys if Amberjacks fit this description!!! Rocky was wore out to he point he had the shakes after landing his fish, now that's a battle between man and fish!!!! Beau Williams, he had a tough day, between not so pleasant times he landed a few king macjkeral and had a round with an Amberjack until it broke 50 lb. test line like sewing thread. But the fight was on for a little while. Hey guy, that's why it's called fishing and not catching. Next time, we may be the winner, this time the fish won!! Now Bobby Smith, he was quiet, but he didn't have time to talk much, he put fish in the boat steady all day. Between all the Grey Snapper, Vermillion Snapper, Trigger Fish, Sharks, Black Bass, Silver Snapper, king mackeral, sharks, Mahi-Mahi, Amber Jacks, and the fish that broke off, pulled off, short strikes, I don't think anyone had too much trouble going to sleep last night, I know I didn't!!! A great day on the water, Guys like this make my job one of the best jobs in the world, the days start early in the morning and end late at night, But, I can't think of anywhere else I'd rather be!!! Thanks to all of you for a great day of fishing!!!!, hope to see you again soon!!!!Check out fish pic's on my site!!! Till next time, FISH ON!! Capt. Butch Foster, Capt. Thursday7-14-05: Left out of South Harbour Marina this morning with Chris Hunt, Ricky Dukes, John Willis, Dale Houser, and Tim Lail, the Maintenance X-Crew from PPG Ind. in Shelby, NC. we started at the South 40 where we marked a lot of fish and was hooked up with a big fish for a while but it made a charge and broke the line. Well, at this time we were looking and getting reports from back on shore of some severe thunder storms heading NE off of Bald Head Island. We also had one to the south of us,well what to do??? OK, I told everyone, if we try to go back in, we will drive head on into the one off Bald Head. That didn't make good judgement too me for it could turn and we were in a position to go in any direction to avoid it where we were. I just sat and watched a little before making any calls. The one to our South was going East, didn't have to worry about that one, The one from Bald Head was turning more ENE so we ran out to the tower where we were able to avoid all the storms all day and had a good day of fishing. I think the falling Baromectric pressure from all the storms had the fish in a slight non active mode, but we pulled it off anyway. Tim Lail said he wanted a BIG fish that fights HARD. Tim, be careful what you wish for from now on!! Just ask him what I mean!!! the barracuda's were feeding but most of those toothy creatures would crash our baits and promptly cut the line. As we were trolling around, I marked a school of bottom fish, the trolling bite was slow so we went to the bottom. They caught some of the biggest grey snappers I have seen in a while. Didn't get the kings and dolphin we wanted but got a cooler full of fillets for the freezor!! Enjoyed it Guy's, we had to dodge a few storms but we caught fish and no one got wet !!! Check out pic's on my site. Till next time, FISH ON!!! Capt. Butch, Capt. Chris, and Bodie"the fish dog" say's HI!! YEAH RIGHT SPORTFISHING CHARTERS, Southport, NC. Wednesday, 7-13-05: This morning we picked up Dave Germain and Jeff Adams from the local Wal-Mart and Dale Westall, a local Tatoo Artist for a day of grouper fishing. Well as mother nature would have her way today. We were greeted with a strong SW wind. So that meant we couldn't get offshore out of Southport, in fact, you didn't even want to be on the beach at Southport this morning. There were 4 to 5 foot seas on the beach. So, with Bald Head Island blocking a SW wind, we took off up the river to Snows Cut and went out of Carolina Beach. There we found a calm and tranquil beach with plenty of bait like glass minnows on the surf. OK, this means the Spanish Mackeral should be feeding here, WRONG!!! NO-BODY was catching any Spanish. Just an occasional one here and there. We even got our occasional one also. Allright, time to go to plan B. Cruised on offshore a little,(you can't go out too far or you will lose the blocking effect of Bald Head), to an artificial reef. Here we marked a lot of fish and bait. We put the baits out and it wasn't long before a king mackeral wanted to join us in the boat. We put the lines back out, and this time it was Dave's turn at the reel. I made a few passes when all of a sudden it looked and sounded like someone dropped a Volkswagon in on top of his pogy. At that point on it WAS ON!!!! they went toe to toe for nearly an hour before it was revealed that Dave had hooked up with a NC Citation sized Jack Crevalle. If you have never hooked one of these brutes, you can't imagine the power they have, don't believe me, just ask Dave in the sporting goods Dept. at the Southport, Wal-Mart. Well, next it was Jeff's turn, we think he had one on for a little bit, but we will never know, his pulled the hooks. Well after that, we started dodging Thunder Storms the rest of the day, picking up a few fish here and there before we would have to leave to miss another storm. Dave, Jeff, and Dale, as always, it was a pleasure, we had a tough day with all the storms around, but as always, you guys caught them again!!!Check out pic's on my site. Till next time, FISH ON!!! Subject: Last few trips

Thru many trips we have been having good luck even though there's been lots of rough water but we trolled and anchor up on the leeward side...Anchored up at the ends of the jettys when there is room and over or on sand bars one can cast long distance with a 00/0/#1 clarkespoon with 3 foot of fluorocarbon and a swivel and weight to get that extra distance and retrieve time. The spanish have been varied juveniles and full fledge adults. Mixed in with spainards we also caught juvenile kings, ID spanish with the black ink dorsal and the kings with the wide open mouth with big teeth. Subject: Spanish as here

Couple of trips the fishing wasn't that good but better then a great day at work. The water was all churned up, with the wind blowing like crazy, getting tossed around and butt creases in our seats. Then things changed for the best. When the first spanish come through on their migration they are big and fat because the are the leaders of the pack and strong genetically. Trolling dead cigar minnows we logged our first spanish of the season in NC and first thought is was a juvenile king but fat. Many Cero mackerel caught this year in the Keys in the Atlantic but not as big and fat girth wise as these. Changed to clarks with trolling weight/planners and caught 7 more biggems and a dozen not as big. Same thing happening at the docks with the reds with livies up and down the ICW. Bonita have moved through and spanish have moved in so spring fishing is full blown. Book a charter, give as a gift, take your sweetheart or take some kiddos fishing.

Handfull of trips with beautiful weather and fantastic results. Bonita have been sporadic but at late have been thick at LibShip, Dallas Rock and Boxcars. Bluefish at high tide around inlets have been jumping in the boat and pound for pound are some great fighters on light tackle. At the choice docks near the WB inlets drum have been pouncing on cut bait and live shrimp. Small but consistant flounder and with just a few keeper sized have been landed and released outside the jetty. Subject: Last handful of trips

Thursday and Friday were glorious weather days with flat seas and beautiful weather that attributed to landings of different species that lead to very successful trips...We went looking for spanish mackerel where they were the preceding days but nada, so we trolled to the Liberty Ship 3nm East of Masonboro Inlet and that brought on some late season bonita and some early season king mackerel. Wrestled with a handful of stripped apes(bonta)and gaffed 2 kings 25 and 27 inches with a few 3lb spainards mixed in. Saturday morning was a lttle different with 5 spainards and thats it, The PM though added a couple of flounder to my client's table fare.Saurday it was blowing so there was nothing to brag about...The catching should only get better so book an adventure on Island Time and you won't regret it...800.831.1372 or 919.791.4328

Subject: Bluefins near shore

The bluefin tuna have invaded the area artificial reefs. They are best spotted by the clusters of seagulls. Best baits are trolled horse ballyhoo and chunking with fresh menhaden or bluefish. You might can land one of these behemoths on a 50TW, but for your sake and the fish's, try an 80TW. Good Fishing! Capt. Rick Bennett

Subject: Kings at Frying Pan

We left the dock at 7:00 am, Nov. 29,2000. My party was interested in some serious king mackerel fishing. Our first stop was 25 miles out where we found the water temp at 59...not very condusive to kings. We went a little further out and still only found 64-65 degree water. We tried this spot but no luck. We were only 14 miles from Frying Pan Tower so we headed south to the Tower. Upon arrival the water temp was 69+ and we got two lines out. Before I could set a third on the downrigger, both lines were ON! We brought in two nice 14 pound kings. The action continued for the next 3 hours almost non-stop. We were using live bait rigs with skirts, mostly hot pink and chartreuse, and small dead ballyhoo with their beaks clipped off. The kings really ate them up. All total for the day, 15 kings in the 6-14 pound range on light slow trolling tackle. We released all but the first two. What a blast! Tight Lines, Capt. Rick Bennett
