Mike, didn't get out at all this weekend, was in PA on Saturday, today was foggy in the morning. Took the boat out just to run her. There were a ton of boats right at the beginning of the channel, Crookes Point. Saw Andrew(friend) on the beach, pulled the boat about five feet off the beach to ask him what's going on. He said nothing, not even the boats were pulling in fish. I wanted to pull the boat on the beach, Dolores got nervous, plus there were two cops standing right next to Andrew. I figured they might not have liked that move.

By the way did not get to go out on Thursday
Honeydo list didn't agree with my schedule

However went out with my Son Yesterday evening
(Friday)
Went off the beach at The Conference House
about an hour before high tide
Nothing really going on
Were a few of the regulars there, but nothing
was hitting
Right around High tide, a few boats pulled up in the channel area including two what appeared
to be party boats and looked as if they were
really scoring, We had a few big bites
but didn't bring in anything, My Son had what
I guess was a Big Blue take his brand new atom blue popper right after he cast it out
because I had it rigged properly and all that came back was some wire that looked like it was cut!
So after some playing on the beach we went over towards Great Kills
Stopped off on Bulkhead Road, nothing going on there, continued towards the point and the Blues were hitting over there.
We didn't want to get a ticket for parking, (I didn't get the new permit yet)
so we didn't stay too long, but at the
piers for the boats across from the beach parking
there was one guy who score a bunch of BIG Blues
during the day, he said that things had slowed down condsiderable during the evening

So can't wait for next week

G,
I was realizing that by the postings on there
Its really sad because if that site was used properly
It could be a wealth of information for
everyone
Maybe its just a local mentality or something
or maybe the List keeper just doesn't keep
that close an eye on it like Our List keeper
does
(Who by the way I do not know who he or she is
and would Like to publically thank them for the use of this List!!!)

Mike, it basically is a Long Island site. You will get a few reports for S.I., not many. That's why I have been asking my friends to check this one out and post here, no luck.
I have been a Noreast member since 2003, name is George1.
I get in a lot of trouble on that site, because it's L.I. based. They think L.I. is the only place around and the regs only apply and effect them and the regs have no effect on anyone else, nor do they care..

Stan, good luck hope to see you, will be on channel 72.
Went to the dock on Saturday, early and no Bunker, they showed up later, just out of casting range.
Same on Sunday, didn't stay.
Give the Bunker time, they will be getting real close soon enough. Last year I was netting them between the slips.

Mike, get a bunker jig, cast into them and reel in fast with a jerky motion.
After you snag one, leave it right where it is, something might be hungry.

Mike, forget it, the Flounder are on their way out, water is getting too warm (55).
With the arrival of the Bass and Blues it isn't too healthy for them to hang around.
Took the boat out for the first trip of the season, mananged only three keeper flounder.
Plenty of Bunker in the harbor.
Go for the Bass and the Blues.

No permit needed, if you are just dropping the boat in. Make sure you have someone to take the trailer, because if you leave it, you will have to have that sticker.

I told friends about it, but they want to stay with Noreast, which I am not crazy with.

Mike, I posted this last night and it looks like it didn't go through.
I heard Fluke will be 20 1/2" and 4 fish from May - Sept. I wouldn't believe it until I see it in writing.
I think I will be getting rid of my boat. They are making it so hard for us to fish. Between the REGS and gas prices, it's just not worth the trips any more.
We must have caught over 100 Fluke last year(which isn't alot)and we had a total of 6 keepers.
Just to keep the boat for the spring and fall bass season, doesn't make sense.
Blues are great to catch, but like to put some fish on the plate and not give them all away to my friend for shark bait.
I didn't get that password message today.

Okay just read in the Advance at work that
The size limit in NY will be raised to 19.5 inches
vs the 17 inches for Fluke in NJ, but no limit
on how many we can take
Article went on to say about why there isn't a
uniform limit and size limit for all along
the East Coast

Torres, you are in NJ, you have Flounder starting on March 23 and Bass season for you already started. Go and check out the NJ regs.

I hope this comes out correctly

Medical student lands 359-lb grouper

THIBODAUX , La. --A medical student who blindfolds his friends to keep his favorite offshore fishing spot secret has come up with a record-beating fish -- a warsaw grouper weighing 359.1 pounds.
The giant hauled in by J.J. Tabor of Thibodaux is 12 ounces above the previous Louisiana state record, a state biologist confirmed.
It's been cut down to fillets. The first fillet weighed 53 pounds, Tabor said.
He caught it near an oil rig 70 miles south of Fourchon, in 400 feet of water. He won't give a more specific description.
'It's J.J.'s secret,' said Joey Rodrigue, a friend from Baton Rouge who joined Tabor and Tabor's father, John, on the record-making trip Saturday. 'I don't even know where I was. He blindfolds us on the way out.'
Tabor said he thought at first that his hook with a live hardtail on it had it the bottom 'until I felt the big head shake.'
Rodrigue steered away from the rig.
'I put myself in a harness and just had to lay back and fight,' J.J. Tabor said. 'It was about a 15 or 20 minute fight.'
Tabor cleaned the fish late Monday afternoon outside his father's auto repair shop in Thibodaux. 'We'll split it up,' he said. 'I'll make some phone calls and try to get rid of it fresh. The rest, we'll vacuum pack it and cook it later.'
Tabor says he believes the fish is about 33 years old. He plans to send an inner-ear bone called the otolith to a university in Florida where researchers can help determine the age of the fish. He hopes to get the results in about four weeks.
The world record, caught off Florida in 1985, is 436 pounds, 12 ounces.

Good news for Staten Island fishermen: No moratorium on summer harvest
by Staten Island Advance
Monday March 10, 2008, 1:02 PM
Staten Island anglers will be able to reel in fluke this summer after all.

After the National Marine Fisheries Service last fall threatened to impose a moratorium on summer flounder harvest through 2009 or longer to help spawn the fluke population, the federal agency has backed down and announced that a ban is unlikely, Rep. Vito Fossella said today.

Fossella (R-Staten Island/Brooklyn), who in November opposed the pending moratorium, also is co-sponsoring legislation that would give the feds updated guidelines for how to rebuild populations of species that have been overfished.

"I'm here to announce the good news that the federal government will not impose a moratorium on fluke fishing in 2008," Fossella said at a news conference on the Ocean Breeze Fishing Pier today, where he was joined by 16 recreational fisherman, party boat captains and bait and tackle shop owners.

NMFS Administrator William Hogarth penned a letter to the Mid-Atlantic Fishery Management Council and the Atlantic States Marine Fisheries Commission warning of the possible moratorium unless fishing is contained and the fluke population increased. The fluke harvest quota will be cut from 17.1 million pounds to 15.77 million pounds this year, but a ban is not planned, Fossella said -- though the agency might still implement a moratorium at some point of the season if it feels overfishing is occurring.

According to the federal Magnuson-Stevens Fishery Conservation and Management Act, the deadline for rebuilding the fluke population to the goal of 196 million pounds of fluke along the coast from Massachusetts to North Carolina is 2013. Though fishermen say fluke fishing is the best it's been in years, officials have said the rebuilding effort is behind schedule.

The Flexibility in Rebuilding American Fisheries Act of 2008 would let the U.S. Commerce Secretary decide how long rebuilding efforts should take in individual areas of the country rather than a blanket 10-year period as required by Magnuson-Stevens. The bill, which Fossella called "ecologically smart" and economically sound, is sponsored by Rep. Frank Pallone (D-New Jersey) and 12 other Congress members.

Individual states -- in New York, the state Department of Environmental Conservation -- still need to set individual limits on the size of fluke and how many fish anglers can keep. Fossella urged New York regulations to fall more in line with New Jersey's commonly more lenient laws. A DEC spokeswoman said a decision on size and bag limits have not yet been set.

Members of the fishing community on Staten Island were outraged at word of a moratorium and said it would devastate the industry and force many party boat owners and bait and tackle shops out of business. They were all smiles today.

"We want to be sure there is fish to catch now and in the future," said Stephen Byrne, fisheries chairman of the Fisherman's Conservation Association and a party boat caption. "If a fish is in trouble, we would absolutely support a moratorium. But that's not the case here at all."

Brian White, a recreational fisherman for about 40 years, said commercial industry also needs to share responsibility for overfishing and do their part to help rebuild the stock.

"I'm not doing it to make a living, I'm doing it to have fun," he said. "It's only fair to target everyone."

Mike,To answer your questions:

1- Is Fishing better before or after stormy weather,
1a- I think before, fish sense the rough water and want to feed before everything gets stirred up. After the storm too much food in the water.

2- Is fishing better during a Full Moon or a New Moon???
2- Full Moon.

These are my opinions, which are usually wrong.
I don't go by any of that stuff, I go out early and fish, catch or not.
Surf people believe in all that, tides, moon, wind and storms.
