Two of us fished Purisma yesterday too. Met Steve (fishmaster)- good talking to you - in the morning and fished a bit south of him at various spots. Had to work at it but ended up with 4 lings, biggest at 15.5#'s, a 6# cabezon , 1 boccacio and 10 reds with 4 @ 5#'s. As Steve said quality fish and a very nice day. Ran 28 knots on the way in. Got boarded by F&G at PSL. They were very friendly and pleasant to talk to. Great day to be on the water. Bert |

Greetings, We fished Purisma today. The ocean was very calm all day. A little South wind in the morning and a little North wind by noon...with glassy seas in between. Ran 30 mph back to the barn. Slow pick today, but the quality was amazing. We kept 10 lings between 24.5-30" (released one that was 33"), 5 cabezon (1 which was 25"), and about a dozen rockfish...but they were mostly toads (@ 5-6#'s) bolina, reds, coppers, & chuckleheads...including 2 bocaccio. Fun day on the water with a good group of friends. To the guy that snaked me in line this morning...what were you thinking??? best fishes, steve P.S. Yea, that was good halibut fishing...wish every trip was like that. I got skunked two weeks ago...it is all about putting in your time with those fish! |

Greetings, Yep, we are planning a run to Purisma tomorrow. Boat name is "Avocation." Give a call on the radio when you get down there. I talked to the guy at the launch this morning and he said no problem at 6 a.m. So where was everyone today? There were barely any fishermen out there today!!! Gorgeous day on the water. Warm and sunny with very little wind all day. Fished the Pea Patch in the "Mini-Avocation." No live bait, but the frozen chovies worked just fine today. We caught 4 keeper halibut today...all within about a hundred yards of each other in about 40' of water. All fish were puking up pinner chovies. 2 fish were just over 22", 1 was about 30", and the last was 33". Great day on the water We'll be out there again tomorrow. best fishes, steve |

Steve (Fishmaster), are you still thinking of a Purisma run tomorrow? Called PSL and they start slinging at 6:00 and said big boats should be OK until 8. If you want some company we are thinking of doing that run tomorrow also - either that or head north to ragged. Weather looks to be great. Jeremy p - don't know if it's too late for you but just got back from Morro Bay and there were only about 1/2 a dozen trailers in the parking lot. Had plenty of room today - that was about noon. I'm looking for a little historical information. Does anyone recall what the past Memorial Day crowds at the Morro Bay launch ramp are like? I'm wanting to make the trip, but it's kinda pointless if you can't find a place to park. Thanks Jeremy Peterson |

Will this mess up the Dialbo Canyon weather forecast? http://www.sanluisobispo.com/breakingnews/story/366583.html Crane mishap damages weather tower at Diablo Canyon A mishap with a mobile crane early today damaged a meteorological tower at Diablo Canyon nuclear power plant. The crane was being moved between 7 and 8 a.m. when it hit a guy wire holding the 250-foot tower. The tower is still standing but it is damaged and plant workers will do a structural assessment to determine the extent of the damage, said Pete Resler, plant spokesman. As a safety precaution, part of a parking lot near the plant’s cooling water intake cove is barricaded off and several buildings used for training are not being used. – David Sneed |

Cracka, Go for it, but take the submarine Our coastal areas will see cooling on Saturday as the northwesterly winds increase and the marine layer returns, but our inland areas will remain hot with Paso Robles reaching 102 on Saturday and Sunday. Moderate gale to fresh gale (32-46 mph) northwesterly (onshore) winds on Tuesday afternoon through next Friday will give cooler temperatures throughout our area. Maybe go early to hazards and off spooners, get back soon. That's only my OPINION. Be safe first! |

Fished PSL today. Wind and chop was already up as we rounded the breakwater at 7:15 a.m. We ran uphill just a bit and made a few drifts but no joy, the winds were working against us. Ran inside hoping we'd see it lay down but that never happened. We boated 2 good Lings, 3 big Brown's, and a gopher or two fishing one spot off Shell Beach then headed in by 11:30 to clean the boat and grilled up some fresh Fish Tacos for lunch. We gave an assist to one of 3 kayakers that were a ways out about a mile off Pirates Cove. Leg cramps caused one yakker to go over and he couldn't use his legs or get back in his yak so he was stranded in the water, no wet suit, no life vest on (it was strapped in the boat). We pulled his yak onboard and after he rested, we ferried him into the swim beach at Avila where they came from while his buddies remained out fishing. It was toasty warm out there in the sun and windless Bay but yakkers, keep your vests on!! You never know when your gonna need it! |

Friends: I don't want anyone to get over-confident ... but our reports from staff at CDFG indicates that they will probably be recommending at least the seven month season that we already have for the upcoming 2-year period (2009 & 2010). Steve Moore (owner of Patriot Sportfishing) and I will be there in Foster City trying to get even more than 7 months. I will let you know later whether we think it would help to get more of you up there in Foster City to lobby and speak for longer seasons. The key days will be June 11,12 and 13. I think the actual vote by the PFMC will be on June 13. Mel |

Mike, did not see you on the way back. Gave you a few calls on the radio though. Pls. tell Tom I fished with that new rod he made me.... the most fun I've had with my clothes on in a long time. I could not tell if the Roberts wrap made a difference but that flex on the first fourth and the strength on the rest made pulling those big lings fun. Can't wait to try it on albies. I'll be in Cancun on Monday for a week & have set up a few runs already. The skippers I talked with said the dorado are everywhere and the sailfish are making a good showing. Maybe I'll just stay... Glad to here you had a good trip. when I get back lets talk about a two day on the Islands. |

Halibut report.....for the second time in two months a Pacific halibut was caught here in SANTA BARBARA. The first one was 80 lbs and this last one was caught by my nephew and weighed 15lbs. Our cold water cycle has really changed some species' typical range and I'm positive there will be more Pacifics caught in the channel this years. You guys in Morro should try out in 200-300 ft with a large mackeral for bait!!! |

Another thing we threw back so many of the "endandgered" stary rock fish we could have feed the next "MPL managment" meeting. Can not get any pics to post so when I get that figured out I will. One more tid bit... all five limits came from just five stops. during one I had to pay extortion to the seals by thowing blues at them to keep them away from our larger fish. Guess the Govt. folks get all upset we we use other methods. |

EPIC DAY....Shot out to San Martin and fished my way back down. Wind came up in the AM but quit around noon. Water still stayed so flat I could of spit on the White rocks, fished the heck out of them. I think the reds had a valet service going because all they wanted to do is please us. My buddy's son caught a red that was damn near as big as him. Winter was good for these fish. All of them including a Monster caby were great. Lings were everywhere, got limits of lings reds and my favorite, jonny bass. I'll try to attach 1 pic. |

Max, I will be on ch. 19 if you have any questions. I don't mind if you fish next to me either, just give me a little room in case I want to get back on the spot...we (mostly) drift fish here. Boat name is "Fiesta", 55 foot, white and green. Otherwise, our reefs are pretty large here, so if you see some boats around, you can probably find some fish. I think I will be above the lighthouse on Fri., south of Morro rock on Sat. and in front of the abalone farm (point Estero) on Sun. Good luck. |

To bad the DEPARTMENT OF FUN AND GAMES does not look at the TIME we really get to fish as opposed to there season , the weather keep the major amount of fisherman off the water at least a quarter of the season , If fuel keeps going up they wont have to do anything, we will all be bank fishing. Friends: The entire 2009 and 2010 groundfish seasons hinge on the outcome of the upcoming June 11-13 meeting of the PFMC. We are probing the CDFG right now about whether we are in danger of losing our 7-month season which me now have. I would like to push for 10 months (with 3 of those months only out to 10 or 15 fathoms). If it looks like our current 7-month season is in jeopardy ... I will be trying to get as many of you as possible to attend the June meeting which will be held in Foster City (which is south of San Francisco on the west side of the San Mateo Bridge). Anything short of 7 months would DESTROY both Virg's and Patriot Sportfishing! I will report back to you soon. Mel |

Steve, We were straight off the big rock off of shell beach in about 55' of water. We were rigged for Rock cod using dead chovies. I think theres some good sandy spots in between the rocks because I have caught them out there before. We marked the spot and rigged for halibut with no more luck. The launch said that that was the first one they have seen this season so hopefully they come in heavy. Good Luck. John. You bet, I tinkered with it, changed the impeller and still no spit. The line may just need to be blown out. Hope to see you out there soon. |

Gang: When using the boat rinse down station at Morro Bay, please be sure to use WATER ONLY and no soaps, detergents, etc. While the drain water is filtered through an oil-absorbent media at the storm drain, introducing soaps messes up that process, and still puts soaps detergents directly into the water. Even "biodegradable" and such are a no-no. Sorry, if you really need to do a full on soap-down, you are going to have to do it at a car wash that processes the drain water, or at home. Thanks, Eric Endersby Morro Bay Harbor Patrol |

The Pale Kai outrigger canoe club is sponsoring a large race for boats from all over the Pacific coast on June 21, 2008, at Avila Beach. I have volunteered my boat as a race escort, and we still need one more boat for the day. We would be working from approximately 8:30 am to 2:30 pm, and costs for gas and launching are reimburseable. We will be escorting three races from San Luis Creek area to the red buoy to the end of Pismo pier and back up through the rocks to the end of Avila pier. There would be race observers and marshalls on your boat. Would anyone be interested? Pale Kai is a great club and worthy of support. Thanks, Al McVay |
