Tim here is a shot of my sled. I call her Mighty Mouse. The hard top helps but the flat bottom makes for a long ride home when the wind picks up. Don't let me kid you, the ocean has spanked me a few times for being out farther than I should. I have been out 80 a few times before. This was pushing it even for me. |

Bert, Nice link to the resize program thanks Can anyone suggest a good economical fuel management system. I am tired of guessing is that half a tank or 3/4. I am going to replace my sending unit and guage and have thought about a full management system. Can anyone reccomend a good economical unit? Thanks |

Sixpack, 100 miles out in your 16 footer? Purely as an effort to conserve deck space on a small vessel, I can only assume that you tow a skiff in which you place your large balls? Man, you're my hero! LOL! |

Mike and others that don't have photo editing software on their computer. I found this basic and real simple program online: http://www.shrinkpictures.com/ scroll down to resize images choose browse and find your image on your computer select custom and type in 500 for your size hit resize You can then download the new sized image to your computer and then post it here Hope that helps. Blackie, You have to resize the photo within your photo software program. It will usually tell you the pixel x pixel size of the photo after you do it. Lots of luck. Will |

Tim(Tim); If you or any one is still interested in on line charts that let you cursor lat/lon etc like Maptech did in the past let me know. I think I found a way to do it free. Not as easy as Maptech was but much better. |

I ran on Sunday out of Monterey. I loaded the boat up with fuel and headed west. I left the dock at 3:30 AM and did not get lines in until after 10. I saw some jumpers at 36.31-123.40 so I put them in and got one right off the back. Boxed the area but could not get anymore to go so I started trolling west. I got to 36.30-123.55, 100 miles west of Monterey. There were a few boats west of me. I could not really hear what they were saying but I knew they were hooking up. I never thought I would have to sat I did not have enough fuel to get to the fish again, but it happend. After some quick calculations I figured I only had enough to get home with my normal cushion. I had 6 gallons left when I got back which is about 40 miles in my sled which would of meant I would of run out about 20 miles from the beach if I would of gone out to 124.20. Never saw another boat or was close enough to any talk on the gps. Got back to the dock at 8 pm.Not sure I want to take my 16 footer that far again.LOL |

My buddie and I were also talking about doing some surf fishing and probably some spear fishing. I also would like to know about the fishing liscense regs down there. Any suggestions would help. Thanks... Ill probably head up to Cambria and mabe even San Simeon This weekend. Get ahold of me on 68 if your in the area. Thanks. |

Greetings, Returned Sunday from a week up in Oregon. Spent 3 days at a good friends' house in Toledo (near Newport). I fished with 4 tunagins on a brand new 23' Hews Craft last Tuesday. It was quite a crew with my buddy Doug, a forester who was born and raised in Boston so he talks really funny Plus his 14 year nephew from North Carolina that had NEVER been out on the ocean before. Then there was Vern, an arborist from Albany (Oregon) who is 6'6 300 pounds and has an amazing zest for life (and thirst for beer at 7 a.m. too). To round out the crew was a crazy Aussie named Richie who was hanging out with Vern after finishing 10th in the world as the world tree climbing championships in New Orleans a few weeks before. He also likes beer any time during the day. Anyhow, it was a little bumpy on the way out, but we had good number from the day before...the fish were only 30-40 miles out! My friends' boat had a gps and depth sounder, but he couldn't figure out how to get a temperature reading. Plus he had a radio, but mentioned that we needed to connect it to the battery if we needed to use it. "Oh no, not one of these days" I thought to myself. No worries though since all the tuna in the Eastern Pacific seem to be located off of Oregon for the past 6 years (since I moved back from there!!!). Trolling ended up being a total CF with only two rod holders and no outriggers. We still managed to troll 5 lines, with 3 of us holding rods in appropriate places. However the crew couldn't quite grasp the concept of staggering lines and keeping the rods as far away from each other as possible...you'd think after the 4th or 5th macramae session that they would've figured it out...but no such luck. Given all our handicaps, we still ended up netting (yes netting) 13 nice albacore between 25-35 pounds! We lost 2 on the way in and had 3 or 4 other drive-bys. All fish were caught on the troll on standard gear (clones, cedar plugs, and fishtraps). We did cast to a few boils and threw out on the slide after almost every hook up, but we had no luck. The ocean totally laid down and was glassy by noon. We came in at 3 pm with boat maxing out at 45 mph! A breaching humpback topped off an amazing day. Oh yea, my buddies nephew was a champ. Never got sick, landed 4 albacore and held a rod most of the time (nearly getting it yanked out of his hand a few times!). The next day the wind picked up a little, so we stayed nearshore and landed 4 nice coho from 8-12 pounds...keeping 4 hatchery fish. We also got 21 Dungeness crab in 7 crab pots Got blanked on steelhead up in the Columbia River near Hook River, but had a fantastic time at my buddies Wedding. Another fantastic trip to Oregon. Let's hope they still come in here! best fishes, steve |

Bob; The weather should be good enough Sat/Sun until about1-2PM to check it out since it is only 20-25 miles out there. Probably be sloppy because the swell wil be up a bit. Was hoping for a chlorophyll shot today but don't think it cleared out in that area but we will see. |

Terrafin shows a temp break that goes from 59 -64 degrees at 25 miles on a 195 from Morro Bay or 21 mi from Avila. Even if there is no albacore in close, there could be opah. I guess a world record was caught this month out of Ventura and the few that we caught the last couple of years were all caught in close at about 25 mi. The other part of the SST that looked interesting was out 70 mi by the elbow. Had this board been working we might have gone looking for tuna last Sunday. The rockcod fishing turned out to be the best we had all year. Ive asked Larry the webmaster to try to give us a way to post photos again. Bob Hather |

Fished Sunday around the AB Farm area in 56 feet of water for 27" Ling, 12# Hali and a really nice 40" 27# Hali. Water was glass. Got boarded by F&G at the dock, nice guy. Tincan2 - I would go up to Ragged Pt area, haven't fished up there this year yet but last year we got limits/near limits of nice lings, reds and assorted rockfish fishing 90-110 feet of water. Just look for structure and your there. Monte (Dingus)- Congrats on the boat. I have a 24 foot Albemarle and will be ready when the Albies get close enough. When we get a decent chloro/temp shot we will be ready to go. Bert |

Fished Monday with Bob Gannon on the Barney C...Was a bumpy run towards Big Sur, but then layed down nicely. We caught 4 nice limits, 2 nice Lings, a Whitefish and I hung a 16# Sheepshead on our last drop....was hoping I had a big halibut...he kept heading back for the bottom...She was a very pretty female...awesome trip...Whales were phenominal!!! We got close to a feeding Pod of Humpbacks for some great photos...you could hear the whales bellering...sooo cool. Then had a huge Grey cruising right up to us in our wake...Everywhere I looked all the way to the horizon, I could see Whales spouting and breaching...2 epic days in just a week..... |

Fished Saturday up by the radar domes...My girlfriends first fishing trip. The water was awesome and flat as a lake...The grey Whales were really close and huge!! We managed 3 short of 2 limits.Carla had blisters on her reel hand from pulling on all those fish...pretty cool..She loves Dolphins so I headed back to Morro Strand and got in real close to a big school swimming with the surfers for some great pics. It was one of those rare epic days that you love to share with someone special... |

Fished MB Sunday. Left just after 4:00 am and made the run to Ragged. Caught more rockfish than we could count, 2 keeper lings plus one shaker, and a 41 inch halibut! Dad thought it was a lingcod until he got it to the boat, but was pleasatly surprised! All in all it was one of the best days I can remember. Now all we need is longfins!!! Jeremy Peterson |

Nice to see everyone back up. Good news for us, we picked up a super sweet 04 seaswirl in San Diego this last weekend and are pretty sure we brought some of that socal luck home with it so those Albies ought to be jumping in the boat any day now. Anyone want to buddy up for the next fishable day?? We might try to run out of moss too next friday/sat if anyone is gonna make the run up there. I've been watching this board for a few years now and have done plenty of charter trips but this is our first venture out on our own so any type of help/supervision is appreciated! Waters warm, lets go get em! |

Great report , Gary, I saw it on BATC and passed it around. More times than not those fish will be feeding on the cold side of the break. That is where the groceries usually are. We have plenty of warm water close to us but have not seen a chloro for days. The weather right now is ugly but should be down for the weekend at least on the inside. Nice to have the board back up. |

Don't give up on the tuna guys, they're out there, they're just way out there. I fished on the Sea Angel a 44' private boat out of Santa Cruz. Left Fri nite at 10pm returned Sun nite at 10 pm. 300 mi round trip we found em 120 mi out at 36 20 124 25 on Fri afternoon. Drifted overnite to 36 08 124 11. At greylight trolled about 2 mins for a 7 fish stop. Trolled another 5 mins for 11 fish stop. We had 50 fish by 10 am, started the 12 hr trip home and picked up another 12 on the way back. Put the gear away at 123 55 because we were out of time and the totes were stuffed. FAC all the way back. Harrel if you look at the Terrafin Central Ca regional Chloro for Aug 10 , all of the fish were caught within 10 mi on the cold side of the dark blue circle of clear water. nothing was caught to the west of that edge. The temp on the warm side was 59.5 the cold side was 59.1 to 58.1 |

I'm sorry for fishreports not being able take new post, etc. last thursday, i upgraded servers (bigger, faster, better) and did not realize you could not login. there was some code that didn't work on the upgrade server (for some odd reason). but obviously, now fixed. I will have another update shortly about the (new message board)... yes, the one that has been coming for about 1.5 years. yes, that is an extreme wait --- but 2 family medical situations came up during that time. update soon? THANKS and again, sorry for the site not fully functionable. |

Any one know A and/or decent place to catch a few rock fish near or around the breaker? I went out today and fished the out side of the breaker off the rocks via a kayak to the last beach only to break off every cast. I want to take my daughter out tomorrow for even just one. Thanks to all of you, you have been a great help. Hope I'm not asking to much. Mark |

Cracker, My wife just called, she's fishing on the catch & release study boat out of Virg's today. Half way to Piedras Blancas she said there were humpbacks breaking right near the boat. They'll probably be gone by tomorrow, but they're around anyway I guess. Back to work for me. Thinking about a weekend jaunt up that way to find out myself, need to fill that freezer again. Good luck. SloTroller 26' Striper |

ROB the 300# blue marlin chased the pink teaser , when we saw him we tossed the live bait and he ate it , we caught a bunch of 30# skipis and bonita on the jigs , most tuna and do do came on the bait bites. I dont have much faith that the LFT will get in here close enough this year , probaly have to do Santa Cruz again, or just be happy with the tuna in my freezer from the last two trips south of the border. Im just happy I hooked up to the giant rooster , was an awasome fight from a maganificent fish , and the best part is hes still out there for some one else to enjoy. Are you going to get some time to fish this year , or are you going to work thru the season? Went down to the coke plant yesterday looking for threshers, halibut and white sea bass. We trolled for a solid 5 hours from below the fence line to the Pismo pier in 30,60 and 90 ft of water for nothing. Not even a bump.Saw quite a bit of bait hugging the bottom but not much other sign. The weather was glassy calm until 12:30 and was blowing 15 by the time we hit the harbor. This was almost exactly what the Sailflow site indicated it would be. This site is a good predictor of the inside conditions and is showing good weather from now through the weekend for the PSL/Morro inside areas. Might be some afternoon breeze. |

The Kids at Sea trip was great today. One 5 year old came to watch her 8 year old brother fish and Michele had her fishing by herself in no time. The kids also learned about being safe on a boat, fishing regulations and about our harbor. sharon |

Mark, You can have the 2 lings in addition to your ten fish. The rest was correct, but there are many other species that you need to look out for that are regulated as well. |

Timothy and Monte, I think a guy named William from a couple months ago or some other person of his nature would be our culprit. My wife was gettig mad at me for the names I called this person so I tried to make this post politically correct. |

Jeff, Sorry I didn't get back to you with a report, we caught 26 tuna for 6 guys on friday. I went sturgeon fishing on sunday out of kinnewick wa. we caught a total of 17 including 1 that measured 8'7" which equates to 335 pounds per the charts. It was the best time i've ever had on fresh water. I'll be in newport tomorrow night and hope to get out for lft again if the weather cooperates. hope we get into the tuna in MB soon. |

Does anyone know if you can fish from shore on VAFB, I was looking at the regs and I am still not sure of the deal. I am not trying to piggyback on anyone for links but I was unable to find take limits etc. From what I saw there is a catch limit of 10 rock fish only 2 lings 24 in' and only one cabezon 15' or longer per the 10 total. Is this correct? I went to dfg but the site lost me. Sorry if I sound dumb but I gave it an honest try. Thanks for any help/ |

Been up here in Oregon for a great first week of trout and steelhead fishing...I took my 5 year old twin girls down the McKenzie River with a guide/driftboat last Friday and the kids nailed the trout.I lost count after 40 fish on dry and wet flies in the first 3 hours.I managed a few trout myself, plus a bonus 8lb steelhead on a nymph which was delicious on the BBQ that night....The next day I went 4/4 on big chrome bright summer steelhead + 1 dark chinook fishing the Willamette in a jet sled just outside the Eugene city limits with one of my law school buddies....Talked to Stacy Meecham who was heading out on a "local" 12 hour albie trip on the coast near Bandon...I do not know how he did,but the Oregon party boats along the "cental coast" have been nailing them close in for weeks (which is good because they cannot fish salmon).....Its great to be in a state where almost everyone fishes and even the vegans don`t give you sh*t about it....tight lines....jeff |

Fished the north end of Estero bay on saturday morning before the wind came up.We fished off of the Killers buoy for a good pick on the rockfish plus 1 short(25")WSB,and one approx. #40lb halibut lost at the gaff due to my error(never let the gaff touch the line). We had live `dines from Virg`s plus a few pounds of fresh dead squid...The squid outfished the live bait....jeff |

LOL!!! Monte, that would have to be our resident PETA douche. It's been going on for quite sometime now. There are a few here that are regularly targeted. It would be nice if the function were just disabled and this board went to new software like vBulletin or the like. |

Just out of curiousity, who is the douche bag that puts only one star by all of the helpful and geniune replys from everyone on this board? I'm getting tired of backtracking and putting 5 stars on to even the keel for you being rude. |

Cracka, I'm with you. The wind here is out of control. My wife and I decided on the Big Island about ten years ago. On the Kona side, you can fish almost any day of the year, and the fish are close in. We chose the North Kohala coast, the country, where there are lots of horse and cattle ranches and a great launch ramp at Kawaihae harbor. Prices are high, but better now than in a long time. Water is super clear and varies from 77 degrees in the winter to 81 degrees in the summer. I try to swim or dive every day that I am there. I've been to Texas and would say that Hawaii is unbelieveably mo betta. Aloha, Will |

Dave the forecast went down the tubes as fast as it started looking good. Looks like it's back to the waitng game. The boat is gassed and loaded all I have to do is stop by work on the way to the ramp to get ice. Just need some decent water to run in. Sailflow.com shows Monday as doable NOAA says no! Too small a window for my little boat. |

Cracka(Jim g) Look into property on the big island of Hawaii. Area south of Kona has a lot of horses and arenas. Also, no fishing license required in Hawaii except for fresh waters and you don't have to run far... Mark/Mistress |

Tuna Report: I could not sit still any longer, so after much preparation, my fishing partner Dustin and I left Morro at 2100 hrs weds night, with a tank of nice 'dines and high hopes. Ran all night due west until grey light, then put the spread out and continued trolling to the upper area of the latest plume on the SST's, around 35.20/122.20, about 72 miles. There was no significant swell, but the weather was what I call "cheesy", with a 2-4' close interval wind chop. Still, at 7 knots in the trough it was manageable, but not for the faint of heart. At the upper edge of the plume, there was no life, no meter marks, just nothing. Water temps from 57 to 58.5 at the warmest. Above the break the water was 56.4 and green The SST scale indicated it should be around 60 degrees... not the case. Turned south and worked through the heart of the plume, with clean blue water and a clean screen, towards the lower edge of the plume. You can see where I am talking about on the Tempbreak SST shot for 8-5-08 at 10:23pm. The edges were there like in the picture, but the temps were colder. found a decent 0.8 degree break along the 122.17 line, zig-zagged across it heading south, but no sign, and no fish. The only life was the occasional albatross, but the ride was very nice running downhill! Kept working south, then in a bit at around 34.4/17.5 and headed for the break that runs along the 1908 to the Donut. Found that the break is pretty defined, and it goes from cold clean blue 58.8 to 60.5 and clean green over about 1 mile. Worked this break for the rest of the evening until dark for nothing, and still no signs of life. At that point we put out the sea anchor and drifted out for the night. Barbecued up some dinner... ribeye steaks, colossal shrimp, wild rice and broccoli, and washed it down with a bottle of Firestone "Eleven"... delish! No doubt one of the highlights of the trip! Drifted 10.4 miles overnight, and started up again at 0600 Friday, working east towards the edge of the break and towards the 1908. We were still in the clean blue cold water when we woke up. Worked across the 1908 and into the clean green 60.5 water, hoping to find some life after being in the sterile no-zone for so long. Came across some killer whales floundering around on the surface at about 27.5/30.1, water temp 61.2, warmest of the whole trip. The ocean was nicer than thursday, and the wind was only around 10 knots in the morning, but the residual wind chop was still evident. Boxed in the killer whale area for 2 hours, saw one meter mark at 220 feet, but nothing else. Turned up towards the area below the Donut, and zig-zagged around across the donut and towards home. Pulled the gear at around 55.2/20.4 as the water temp was down to 57.2, and ran for home. Never saw anything worth pulling the jigs and soaking bait on. The winds came up to around 20 in the early afternoon, but the seas were smaller, maybe 1-3', and the ride was pretty nice for being in the trough. Even though we did not find fish, it was still a great trip. It will make the trips when we whack 'em that much more gratifying. It felt pretty good to spend the night on the sea anchor 70 miles out. I used to do that a lot when I was younger. We covered a total of 256 miles for the trip. So there, at least we know what is on the outside right now. Perhaps later this month, or Sept-Oct will bring us the fish and the weather. Good luck to all, and if I left anything out, please ask away. Paul |
