Mmmm....not sure what I did wrong. I bled my fish immediately...iced them down right after that and cleaned them within an hour.
I've never eaten cat food, but does it taste that bad???

Did the sea lions flip this boat too? I've heard of several that have been swamped or flipped by sea lion this year. Major bummer!!!

I definitely stand corrected about the fish stocks off Hazards. I just couldn't get them to bite... Maybe I need a fishing lesson.

Hazards is chucked full of fish. I do well there every time I go out. Last week in 2 hours I landed a very nice rock rish limit plus 2 keeper lings. Today I repeated but with just 1 keeper ling. And that would be paddleing out on my kayak at Spooner's Cove. I'm amazed at the number of fish there. Dan

The Bonita are out there. We launched at 0700 and by 1030 we had nine in the boat and lost 5 more. 3 at the net, one monster broke the line as we got it to the boat and another spit the hook as it came to the boat. Water was glass. We were about 3 miles outside the red light. All of these were in the same spot. DFG was there doing a survay. Measured and weighed all 9. Smallest was 9 pounds and the rest were all at 11 to 13. 27 to 29 inches.

Dave,
Oh...that comment. Yea, that was supposed to be funny (I think Michelle got it). I just said that because Hather said that the fishing was worse around Hazards because of MPA's. That was not a serious statement...I think it
I totally agree with you about Purisma.

Steve, captyamadave@yahoo.com. It was your post about the lings being better at Purisma because of the mpa. The population shift actually started about 3 years before the mpa`s were in place. Just looking at my numbers. Most of didn`t fish around the point because we caught too many gophers. You don`t go to Purisma for gophers and bass but for bolina, reds and lings. Email me and I will gladly explain.

Hey Dave,
When did I say an area was overfished? (tried emailing you, but it bounced back). I said fishing was slow Saturday due to big swell, full moon and slack tide...not overfishing. Purisma is epic, if you catch the bite.
Just curious.
thanks,
steve

Greetings,
Took the mini out today off the peir. Got a nice scoop of medium dines from Deke. Headed up the coast at full throttle (25 mph) for the first time...ever? Drifted the Pea Patch for 1 26" halibut, 1 35" lingcod (released) and one possible shark (chewed off). Caught fish in 50-60' of water, but fished in to 30'.
Headed outside for an hour and hooked 5 and landed 4 bonito on rapalas. Nice fish from 6-8 pounds. Man, do those things pull! Lots of fun on light rods:-) Fish were 3-4 miles out, between green and red lights in 59-61 degree water. Another boat got 9 or 10 a few miles further.
Absolutely flat calm all day. Headed in at 1:30.
Good luck to those that go.
best fishes,
steve

Thanks for the post Michelle. This is the 3rd post like this. Hather, Hendricks, and now Will. These folks need to know that conditions dictate and that some areas are more sensitive than others. Nothing here is fished out. I only wish I had the silver tongue that Joey has. The misinformation just flows.

Will,

I doubt it is fished out. We studied that area this year with Cal Poly. We had some very good and very bad days their this year on charters and studies. We all know it is picky there and a big ground swell just rolled through a couple of days ago. It usually takes a few days for the bite to turn on there after any kind of ground swell. That is why you probably didn't see many party boats there this weekend. It has been a slow few months around here, especially for reds. It is starting to pick up though, we did ok locally Wed. and Sat. around the Domes. It has even been slow around the lighthouse, although that is a blessing sometimes. With a couple of overzealous Wardens (Hickey and Huber) running around, PETA and people like Joey Racano, the last thing we need is for avid local fishermen to spread the word that the local areas are fished out when it is just not true. Let's wait for the data to come out. I'm sure Cal Poly is doing a great job. They are very thorough with their work.

Had a beautiful day on the water on Sunday off Hazard Canyon. I'm thinking this area is pretty well fished out for the time being. We fished jigs all day for a mix of small rockfish and one nice cabezon. There was no live bait available and the sea lions kept us from making any bait in the bay. Could not have been a nicer day.

Beautiful Day at PSL. Managed to get one of the last scoops of bait. It was a slow bite most the day. Ended up with two 24-25" halibut 29" ling, big red and a nice sole with assorment of rock fish. Great day to be on water, too bad tide ended it at 2pm. Anyone getting any flatties out at Ab farm this weekend. Bite was there last weekend but NOTHING on SAT.

We also caught two bonito, today, they came at 1:00 and 1:20 so not much time to get anymore and still get back in when there was still water. They were caught in 180 and 140 feet of water two miles south of the red light. ( The former salmon grounds). The orange and black feather was the ticket for both. Great weather and some rock fish to boot, well worth going out.

Greetings,
Fished down at Purisma today. Slow bite for us and a few others...but a few boats did find some biters today. Seems like the full moon, big swell and slack tide at 10 a.m. were just one too many factors against us today...plus we had to be in by 2 pm due to low tide (Pices did a little hang ten today while coming in to the launch:-). We ended the day with 5 keeper lings and 12 nice bolina/copper's. Slowest day this year by far for us at Purisma:-(
Gorgeous day on the water...ran 30 knots down and 25 back home...just a light breeze all day. Pretty good drift all day, even with the light wind.
We did hear of a 20# bonito...but that was it.
Hope folks get out to enjoy the nice weather!!!
best fishes,
steve

Luke, We still need a light skiff for the Billy Boy. We'll trade you for twice that in live bait. It'll help us make bait and that helps everyone.

Doug may have some bait for Saturday but call the landing. I haven't seen him since I got back. Elk hunting was tough but the trout fishing in Wyoming is stupid. Should have got some pictures, you wouldn't believe it. Unreal the locals don't spend more time at it. Saw maybe three others fishing all week and those were fellow skunk hunters. Finally got all our elk 1/2 hour before the season ended, stuck & broke the truck getting them out, pitch black, middle of nowhere, 17 degress, snowing, blowing 20 but we had our truck full of elk! Finally limped it into camp by 3am - great fun.

Maybe Doug and I can take the BB out for a look in front tomorrow night for fresh bait on Sunday.

Thanks, Mike!

Duck / Goose hunting is on hold till next week sometime. This weather really sucks for that up in the Rice in the Sac Valley.

Looking at getting the Whaler out on Sunday for what will likely be the last hurrah, we'll see.

Probably see you next week when we're back up.

Thanks again!

Coleman Hatchery has met their target of 12 million eggs.
An estimated 14,900 fall chinook entered Battle Creek and 10,400 of these were spawned in the hatchery. The person I spoke with did not provide a comparison to last year but I will ask him next week. The run is essentially over for Coleman this year but they may possibly receive enough fish to do one more spawning next week.

No new numbers for Feather River Hatchery because their internet connection is down but I will post when I get them.

No new report from the Merced Hatchery either.

I am planning to head out of Morro on Sunday for reds and hopefully a halibut or two. I haven't heard if there is live bait. If not, I will try to make some in the bay. Last run of the season (I said that a few weeks ago also) and I am stoked to get out there.

Greetings,
Purisma run Saturday!!! Anyone else want to buddy boat down to Purisma??? I'm a little worried about the bite with the full moon and slack tide around 10 a.m., but this is probably the last trip of the year so I think it is worth a shot!!! If it is slow at Purisma we'll run back up to Sal.
Supposed to be flat:-)
best fishes,
steve

Luke thats mine and Chris's boat what are you thinking. That boat has caught more halibut than you've ever dreamed, you should wait and fish it and catch some for yourself. Oh well 50 for me, 50 for Chris. Just busting your bananas. Sell the dam thing, great deal.

Fished up by the Ab farm on Tues for 15 keeper rockfish. 6 decent reds in the bag and we released a dozen lings that were a bit short. I was hoping to find a few bonita, but the water temp was 54-56 so I gave it a pass. The bite got better at about 11:00 when the N wind started blowing a bit.
Not the best day, but better than I have done in my last couple of trips.

Hey all, I am looking for a good little 10-15hp 4-stroke motor for my wife's (haha) 12' Gregor. If you have one you'd like to sell, email me please paulschuyler1@yahoo.com.

I'm also looking for a couple 10#-15# anchors.

Oh, and I also have a friend who lives aboard on MB, and he is looking for a dinghy.

Thanks!

Santa Barbara had gale winds blowing Sunday...launched Monday morning and headed for the oil dereks....It was a bit too rough for my girlfriend, but she toughed it out...it was Rock and roll in an 18 foot boat....trolled 2 Rapalas, and 2 tuna feathers...for zip I think maybe Florida is sounding good...the toughest decision is what to fish for that day!

I just looked at the SST's and the warm water moved out to about 9 or 10 miles off shore, probably why the bonito aren't in closer to shore like they were.

I looked at the ocean from our house Sunday, and it looked nasty out there, even early. I wish you had been able to make it out Saturday, it was definitely a lot better!

Fished this past Saturday, Nov 8 out of PSL. Plenty of boats out there, the swell got kind of sloppy with junk on the water. Wind didn't come up till about 12. We only had feathers and krocs, no plugs, but did alright. We only kept two bleeders, but released the rest. It was a ton of fun considering the Albacore didn't come in this year. Nothing like fishing these 'tuna'. We ended the day with some rockcod and a 26" ling, but I would take the bonito any day!

Where is the big red light or the can that you guys mentio out of PSL? Which direction out of PSL?
I ask as I would like to try for some bonita out of Morro Bay and I may just run towards PSL. Any bonita being brought into MB?
I've been on a family trip for a few days and catching some bonita sounds like fun.
