Christmas fishing in Puerto Vallarta could not be any better. The offshore fishing is holding strong with sailfish and mahi mahi. The marlin fishing has slowed down but there are a few out there for the boats that fish for them. Just out by the islands the roosterfish, spanish mackerel, snapper are showing up in good numbers. The water temp is now around 74 with a lot of sardines. Best baits have been live, mullet and rapalas trolled around tha islands including a few pics from last week

The tuna fishing here in Puerto Vallarta remain hot. We were out yesterday and got 10 nive tuna all around 30 lbs then took couple over to Los Arcos for some snorkeling at national seapark here in Puerto Vallarta, we saw a couple of sailfish and mahi mahi. The big tuna are showing up at corbetana and banco. The water temp is around 84 deg and dark blue, now is one of the best times to come for that really big marlin or just a great day out with the family for some tuna here in the bay, for more info call me a t 18773012058 or look at www.travelvallarta.com

Ana Maria Sportfishing Set new Marlin Record in San Blas fishing Tournament

Day 1
1st day of the tournament captain Steve decided to head north we had spotted some big Dorados in the same area the day before and decided to test our luck but it was cold not even a bite.

Day 2 Captain Steve said we are going to the bank to troll some big live baits and catch a Marlin around 10 am thats exactly what happened the black hit a live skip jack leaped in the air and the fight was on1 hour 10 minutes later the beast was on the boat great fight great video of the black marlin leaping in the air the Black Marlin set a new record for San Blas Tournament 517 lbs!!
full video in HD coming soon!

Day 3
We hit the bank again lots of bait and smaller tuna's we hooked 3 smaller yellowfin tuna's in the morning all about 30-40 lbs then decided to troll back slow and see if we pick anything up, around 1 pm We had a big Dorado strike Jmark reeled in the big Dorado in about 10 minutes and We headed back. The first 2 days there had not been any qualifiing Mahi mahi so we headed back for weigh ins and thought we had won Dorado also but 10 minutes to 6pm We were knocked down by .8 of a kilo so we took 2nd place Dorado 33 lbs and 1st place Marlin 517 lbs Great Tournament We will definetly be back next year.

The fishing has been great most days here in Puerto Vallarta and Nuevo Vallarta. The water temp has been around 75 deg. with the warmer spots producing tunas.
The hot spots have been close to El Banco, corbetena and just around islands off Punta Mita. The roosterfish and snapper have been schooling there most days. The roosterfish are huge and snapper or pargos as we call them are up to 50-60 lbs. The sailfish have moved and are hanging just outside of Lo de Marcos feeding on sardines. The sardines seem to be everywhere and this is holding all kinds of fish inshore and offshore The weather has been perfect here in Vallarta 60 deg at night and around 80 deg during the day. The sea have been almost flat with winds in the 10 knot range.
There also have been no shortage of whales here for our clients to see during our fishing trips.

It's the end of the month and gearing up for September, this is the slowest month for tourist here in Puerto Vallarta, but it’s one of the very best months for really big fish
August produced some great days of fishing there were a lot of marlin, tuna, sailfish and mahi mahi caught during the month of august Not to mention the marlin/tuna tournament we had here in La Cruz,
Nay
When we could not get marlin or tuna to bite we would go to corbetena, morro or a few other spots know by the guys that put forth the effort to catch fish for their clients, the pargos were there for the taking
The roosterfish are still hanging around as well using live bonitas or goggle eye
Best bet for month of September is banco or corbentena for our huge tuna or marlin when the water is blue they will be there for the taking
The bigger mahi mahi will be showing up so be sure to take lots of pitch baits to fish around the trash lines or trees and other structures that float inside and outside the bay, the dodos will be there
If you coming with family and want to do a short trip inside the bay you can count on getting torros, bonitas and Spanish mackerel right I said Spanish mackerel they are still here
This coming month I’m offering a fishing/town home rental which can be seen at
http://www.travelvallarta.com/homerentals.html
My place is right on the beach and only a few minutes from the docks
For those of you that want to come and fish with us one day take a look at http://www.travelvallarta.com/fishing.html

Over all the fishing week was great, lot of roosterfish were caught around islands working trash line close to rocks just off the islands
Mahi mahi were caught just offshore trolling mullet and lures,we also used some pitch baits around trash line and trees that have drifted offshore from the 5 rivers that flow into our bay
Marlin and tuna were cuaght at corbentena using live bonita, some nice ones marlin up to 500 lbs tuna up to 150 lbs
inside the bay on shorter trips there are jacks being caught using live bait in front of Nuevo Vallarta and La Cruz
Sailfish were caught just about everywhere, outside the bay,up north and
off the corbetena trolling mullet and lures
The banco which is 50 miles offshore was slow with off color water
the water temp is around 83 deg
If you want more fishing or charter info take a look at http://www.travelvallarta.com

Captain Steve Torres has been putting the boat out
daily for extreme offshore hookups of Sailfish, Blue
and Black Marlin and more Yellowfin than you can
hold in your coolers. Hooked and Released this past
week were a 650 lb. Blue and a 700 lb Black Marlin.
At El Banco, the tuna catch has been off the hook in
the 50-250 lb. range. A real nice Alice Tuna
weighing 240 lbs was caught by angler, Dan Gentles
from New Jersey , Christmas Week. Don’t see those
too often! There is plenty of Dorado/Mahi for the
taking in a wide range of weights- more than enough
to make a good day of fishing. Inshore, you can
usually hook up Roosters, Toros (Jack Cravelle),
Bonita, Spanish Mackerel, Snappers and Skippies.
The tuna have been sticking around due to cooler
water temps this season. El Nino or climate change-
don’t know but it makes for great fishing days this
month!
On December 18-19, boat Owner Dan Gilmartin;
son, Cory Gilmartin; and Dan Gentles took an
overnight trip to El Banco from the dock at Paradise
Village, Nuevo Vallarta. After hooking up bait of
Skipjack and Bullet Tuna in the Bay of Banderas we
were off to chase the Yellowfin at El Banco. Arriving
at 8:30am, they began the slow troll. By 9:00 am we
had the first Yellowfin strike and reeled in a 90
pounder. By the end of a crazy day we hauled in 9
Yellowfin Tuna with a total weight of 640 pounds!
This was a Top Ten Day for Captain Steve and First
Mate, Freddie on the Sirena. The catch had to be
unloaded at Punta Mita by 11:00pm so the boat
would have room for more! By 4:30am, Sirena was
fast trolling lures and brought up a Marlin by the
time we hit El Banco. A beautiful sunrise and perfect
bay weather presaged another perfect day. Lots of
birds working north landed us right in Tuna territory.
The Bullet Tuna bait worked best and by 2:00pm
another 14 Yellowfin Tuna were boated. Dan
Gentles was renamed “THE TUNA-NATOR” by the
crew! He landed 80% of the catch, all standing up, with the hat-trick, 245lb Alice Tuna --the last hook-up of the day on the way in. Folks, that’s 1,400 pounds for 23 tuna caught in two days! This trip was TEAM WORK at its best!
The experienced team of Captain Steve and First
Mate Freddie are a wonder to watch in action. It’s a well orchestrated show from running the boat, finding the fish, handing the rods off, and boating the catch. Remember that memories of a Great Fishing Trip. See more Puerto Vallarta fishing info at www.puertovallartafish.com

Puerto Vallarta Fishing (and Catching!) Report
November 1, 2005

Once again the fishing in Puerto Vallarta has been outstanding! For the past week we have been catching HUGE Roosterfish using (10) lb. Skip Jack Tunas for bait. Also Sailfish and Dorado(Mahi Mahi) have been hitting frequently for the past few days. The water temp. is starting to cool down and the rock fish are starting to bite. (Pargo, Grouper, Snapper, AmberJack).

The really big Tunas and some Marlin are still out at the Corbetena
(36Miles) and the Banco (57 Miles). I recommend a minimum of (8) hrs. trip right now to catch some fish and make your trip worth while. If you come this far to go fishing, go all the way! You will love it !

Keep a hook out for my next report, it is sure to get better. Fishing always, Captain Steve. VIA MAR Charters, Puerto Vallarta Mexico. www.VallartaSource.com

Puerto Vallarta Fishing (and Catching!) Report
October 22, 2005

The BIG GAME deep sea fishing has been great for the past couple weeks here in Puerto Vallarta. 300 TO 400LB. Yellow Fin Tunas, Blue and Black Marlin, Sailfish and some Dorados (Mahi Mahi). The areas to fish right now are the Corvetena aprox. 35 miles from the dock or the Banco aprox. 56 miles from the dock. 8, 10, and 12-hour trips are required for these areas.

The Large mouth Bass fishing at Cajon De Pena 7'000 acre fresh water lake seems to be good to great every time I go; last week was a slow bite in the morning but by 12:00 noon we were catching some 5 to 7 pounders, and a bunch of little practice Big Lunker Wanabee's!!! The scenery doesn't get any better than right now through March, it's a beautiful experience to see. Less than 2 hours from Puerto Vallarta.

Until the next report, keep a sharp hook ready for when you get here and we will make sure you get hooked up on the boat you choose. We are catching a wide variety of fish in all sizes right now but that just keeps it interesting.

See you when you get here! Capitan Steve Wharton. VIA MAR Deep sea fishing and Pro Bass Fishing Guide in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico.

Went fishing with Capt. David Botello in Puerto Vallarta. Had a great time and caught several Tuna. Dave's got a great way of catching fish and manages to get the tuna in the boat in under 30 minutes - its incredible! He's also got one of the nicest, fastest, and most comfortable boats I've ever been on. If you want info he's got a website:

Here is what we did. We took a cab from Puerto Vallarta down to the marina. Once there just walk around and you will see crews working on boats. Some of these boats are crap but there are some very nice boats with some very good crews without paying the bucks you will going through an agent. Just ask each captain what he charges for the day and how far he is willing to fish. There is a small island 40-60 miles from Puerto Vallarta with some great fishing. Finished our day with 2 yellowfin 50-60lb class 1 sailfish (Released) and 2 Darodo both in the 40-50lb class ..... good day! SOme times of year this same island produces 200+lb tuna in numbers so make sure the boat can do the distance. Good Luck

Subject: July 2001 Fishing Report

July started off with a Bang! Best fishing that Old Phil in PV has ever seen. On the 3rd, Matt Todd and his party on the STRIKE ONE hooked 2 Black Marlin, apx. 300 and 600 pounds and a Giant Yellowfin that weighed in at 250 pounds and they lost several others. This group was hooked up ALL day long.

On the 4th of July Gary Steckel, son Nathan and friends on the STRIKE ONE hooked and released a Black Marlin well over 700 pounds and caught 2 Yellowfin Tuna, the largest over 400 pounds. The big one was singlehandedly brought in by 17 year old Nathan, and he will be talking about this day for years to come. This beauty is in the process of being mounted so he will enjoy it forever.

On Friday the 13th, Richard Shumway and his party spent a day on the STRIKE ONE and successfully caught and released a Black Marlin about 500 pounds.

Seamus Donohoe and his wife took the STRIKE ONE on the 16th and also caught and released a Black Marlin that was over 600 pounds.

On the 22nd, John and his buddies from Canada took the STRIKE ONE and caught and released a Marlin that was over 700 pounds, lost about 4 giant Yellowfins and managed to get one in that was 300 pounds. This took a 13 hour day.

On the 23rd on the YOLARAY http://yolaray.8m.com/ this same group caught and released one Black Marlin about 400 pounds and brought in a possible world record Yellowfin Tuna that weighed about 460 pounds. It was 89 inches long and it's girth was 60 inches. This one is being mounted. This group attempted an overnighter at El Banco, but the seas became so rough that they headed in and waited for the storm to subside and then headed back out and caught a 300 pound Black Marlin and a 300 pound Yellowfin Tuna, both are being mounted.

On Wednesday Scott Tonkins and his group on the STRIKE ONE caught and released a Black Marlin about 500 pounds and Larry Helgeson managed to bring in a 350 pound Yellowfin Tuna.

On the same day on the SOL, Billie Ingraham along with 12 year old nephew Cody and daughter Sharla hooked 16 Yellowfins 10 to 15 pounds jigging their own rods and hooking the fish themselves. This group definitely deserves the title 'Tuna Kings'.

On the 27th, Paula Baker and son Ryan took the BOUND FOR and hooked 7 big Needlefish and several Bonita. Couldn't get the tuna to bite, but Paula commented, "It's Fishing, not Catching and we had the time of our life".
