Stan: I sent it to the midway electric address, is that right?

Mike: Did you catch those Stripers and where?

Went out today, nothing but monster Blues, 10-13 lbs.

I will be heading out Saturday, weather permitting.

Got this off of the Stripers247 board

Sharon weighted a NEW N.Y.State record Striped Bass today. It weighted 55.lbs 6.ozs. beating the Old record by 6 ounces. Sorry Ron Z, but there's a NEW champ. He's from Delaware County, and caught the fish trolling. I'm sure Sharon will have pictures posted soon. The big fish have arrived and seem to be coming more an more each day, better late than never. Gonna have to try and beat this record, they just keep raising the Bar, but I'll keep trying. Today only a 20lber and 13 lber. on chunks. Good luck trying to beat the new record.

Mike, thanks for agreeing.
Went out today to Old Orchard, nothing, not a bite.
I then decided to head out to my old haunt, West Bank. Fish were there, Bass and Blues. Took home one Striper and released the other two along with the Blues.

I'm trying to keep her in for another week, then out she comes.

We will be hitting the party boats at night for Bass, let me know if you guy's are interested in joining us.

I just love it when people who are new to this site, come on and just start BSin'.
If you want to start spewing that crap, go to that other website, NOREAST, that's good for your kind of report.
If this site becomes another NOREAST, I will not be posting much longer.
Let's try to keep this to fishing reports and not about all that other crap.

As for the fall fishing being bad, it sure is.
The bass won't make their showing until we all pull our boats out or it gets too cold for the surfers to get out.
Have been out the last few day's nothing to report. Had one nice run off on a live bunker, no head shaking, just a nice solid pull. Spit the hook, bait came back alive and kicking(bass).
I will give it around another week or until the weather really turns, then I will pull the Princess out.

Thanks, Doc I appreciate when somebody sees the light on some subjects. I realized after posting I may have been a little hard on those I referred to as MULLET EATERS and I apologize if anyone was offended by my comment. I just try to tie it all together with conservation, respect for the environment and basically trying to make people aware of their actions or inaction. On your subject of the neighborhood fisherman I always hoped that all caught fish do get consumed. I'll never forget being on a Bluefish trip years ago out of Jersey and seeing everybody keeping 10-12lb Blues, filling their bags and then giving
the rest to the boat. At the end of the day that party boat literally had garbage pails full of bluefish. I said to the mate, "What are you gonna do with all those Blues"? He replied," We'll sell some and grind up the rest for chum for the next trip... I almost fell off the dock. Are you kidding me? Chum? If that's business as usual on the boats, well you won't get my business any more. Come to think of it I haven't been on one since. Like em or not what a waste to grind them for chum. Again, am I missing something? Here's another story (TRUE) for ya. Back in 1996 I went on a Tuna charter out of Montauk Harbor with co-workers. After getting out to the grounds, we came across a Dragger working the area. Our captain told us he hangs around the draggers because sometimes the Tuna show up during the drag. What I saw of this dragger and the resulting death of countless fish they were responsible for I will never forget. After the drag the nets are pulled up and the fish are dumped on deck, the crew then picks through the pile of fish and retains which ever particular species they're looking for. After that the rest are pushed back over the side either by what looked like a broom or being kicked in. The resulting slick of dead or dying fish was unbelievable. Floating by us were hundreds of juvenile fish that had been scraped up from the bottom and now injured. Many had the distended stomach/swimbladders that result from being brought up from the depths. Obviously, they weren't getting back down. The sad part- This goes on everyday all over the world 24/7. Do you feel sorry for the human race when you hear that there may not be enough food to support the world? I don't. Not when I observe practices like the ones I mentioned. Every thing is endangered except the Human Race. Perhaps global warming is the Earths way of telling us "Hey, I've had enough". Just stop and look next time you see somebody abusing the environment, they are the ones who help bring the wrath. YOU WILL REAP WHAT YOU HAVE SOWN! Regards, BOB

In response to bunker bob's post alot of those topics hit home with alot of us fishermen, but what gets me are the guys who feel the need to feed the neighborhood. You know the guys who take everything they catch only to bring the fish home for their neighbors or better yet ask for your fish that you land and intend to release.i love those guys who say hey I'll take that and my response is that's what they call catch and release, and as far as the fishing i can't remember a deader october then the one we just endured,no bait=no fish, wheres the bait?

Fished the Fort last nite- NOTHING. It looks like this may again be a lousy fall run for Staten Island. Is it me or does anybody else notice the progressively worse fishing in the fall in the last 6-8 years? A friend went out on his boat last week from GK- Tottenville and back, they didn't mark a damn thing. No schools of bait, birds ETC. Did anybody notice the large wash up of all the dead mussels this summer along
the South shore? It's been happening for years, except this year the piles were 3 feet high in some areas. The official explanation from NYS DEC
spokeswoman was "Oh, This is a natural occurence
that happens when the water gets too warm" Yeah ok
Did anybody investigate? Were water samples taken?
It's really easy to make a statement and give it to the press from your office in Albany NY. On the abscence of Bait, obviously it's time to permanently stop cast netting for Bunker in Raritan Bay. Although there was a ban I believe it was overturned. You can also thank the guys along the beaches with the throw nets that continually wipe out the peanuts and mullet that move along the beach in the late summer/fall. They love to fish for fluke with live peanuts, so some fill their buckets with baitfish which ultimately die, then they just dump them out. REAL SMART! At the same time they're catching undersize fluke which probably end up gut hooked and have to be thrown back only to die anyway. Then you have the "Mullet Eaters" and I'm not talking about a species of fish or bird that preys on these fish. I'm not knocking taking or eating fish I take the occasional bluefish or striper that dies. It's a waste to throw back fish that would die. As a wader I try to practice responsible catch and release, thats crushing barbs on hooks ,removing unnecessary treble hooks on swimmers and treating the fish carefully. Agree with me or not fishing can be barbaric at times and the animal rights groups are out there trying to shut you out from ocean access. Closed areas , Fish preserves, it all sounds great but the fact is you can't participate. These groups have a voice and the politicos listen to them, Why? Because voices = votes. Just last night leaving the beach I observed the mess the beach fishing slobs left-bait bags, cans , mono line. What does it take to wrap up your junk and throw it in a litter basket or God forbid take it home for disposal. Most of us receive twice weekly garbage pickup. What's the problem? Again, there's a strike against the recreational fisherman and a gold star for the environ-MENTAL And they're right. Why do you think municipalities and beach front property owners want to limit, if not totally restrict your
access to the ocean? because they're tired of cleaning up after the slobs.I've heard a rumor In 2011 a fishing license(SALTWATER) is being proposed for New York State. I'm on the fence with this one, of course the usual language is "The monies generated will be used for fisheries related programs and to accurately give a count of just how many are using the resource". Given the sad state of affairs of the Union these days the money generated will most likely go to some politcos slush fund for a pet project other than fisheries. We can only hope otherwise.
Thanks for letting me vent, Hopefully things will turn around. THINK GLOBALLY, FISH RESPONSIBLY.

Stan, gave you a shout on Monday.
The reef is the Sandy Hook Reef and it's off Sandy Hook.
You are better off tying up to one of the mooring buoys in the harbor, at least there are blues to fool around with.
When are you going to take your boat out, I'm looking at the third week in November.

I saw it there, I don't know and everyone I asked doesn't know either. I thought at first it fell off a trailer.
Check with the park rangers, it might be for anyone who wants it.
Tied up in the back of the harbor this morning, plenty of 4-6 lb Blues around. Catch of the day was me. While popping, I got one of the treble hooks right in my finger. I couldn't get it out, so to the emergency room I went.
All is fine.

Does anyone know what happened to the boat at the top of the boat ramp? I went out this weekend and there is a boat off the trailer in the middle of the parking lot. I guess the parks policy put cones around it etc. Does anyone know what happened?

Okay heres one that I for one would never have believed if I didn't see it for myself

My Son had soccer practice today at Lemon
Creek Park North of the pier and this guy
was with his two young sons
They were trying to grab a few snappers from
what I gathered while watching them
when the youngest one (maybe about 5 or 6
years old) cast out and got hit
It almost pulled him in off the bridge
when his Dad grabbed the pole
a small toy style pole at that
The kid got a Blue about a foot long
The Dad was lucky that the damn fish
came right at him as he reeled in
Needless to say the three of them were
all in shock especially the one that cast out!
I sure wish I could see that Moms face when they brought that one home!!!

Stan: Was heading back in, turned off the radio when we hit the gas dock.
We caught one short Fluke and Sea Robins.
Fished off the dock for a few hours today, nothing but one short run off.
Will be going out this weekend, but I might be tying up to a mooring buoy in the back of the harbor. I think there is more going on there than outside.

Anchored up at Old Orchard, nothing, went to the Bug Light, nothing and then tied up in the harbor, nothing.
From what I heard on the radio there wasn't much going on at all.

Looks like the Blues are starting to show their teeth, got bit. Picked two up today around 5lbs, off my dock. Taking nothing but bait, no lures. That's funny because on Sunday I was hitting them with poppers and no bait, go figure.
Next to show up are the Stripers !!!!!

Did a Google search for pictures of a Gar and
found this

http://www.whozoo.org/Intro2001/abbymoor/SpotGarFwzb33whozoo.jpg

It was definately a Gar
Only question is that two sites that
I read about them list them as Fresh
Water and not Salt Water
So Im confused
Im guessing that there are a couple
of different spieces one the Fresh variety
and one the Salt?
Am I right G?

Went over to Bulkhead Road in GK on Saturday
for the High Tide, Grabbed a few snappers and
saw a Vintage WW2 Bomber do a fly-by
Really great to see a Classy Bird like that go over head

One Question
Both my Son and Myself kept getting hit
by what appeared to be a fish that was
about a foot long, Tube like body, with a
snout that looked like it was all teeth
Almost looked like a swimming Dinosaur
Wish I could have taken one or took a
picture of it, Appeared to have been
more than one that was moving about
in there, Almost like a Torpedo
(No not a Baracuda, seen them up close
in my Scuba Diving Days, and this was
not one!)
Anyone have any idea what it was?

Went out yesterday with Sal, Lloyd on Fred's new Amberjack. Fished the whole Tottenville area, nothing but two keeper Fluke, which were returned and one nice runoff. Switched to Porgies just to fool around, all returned.
Saw this overturned boat. Coast Guard was around, it seemed no one was helping out. It looked like they didn't want help. We thought the CG should have taken over.

Change of plans, took my boat out looking for Weaks. Hit Lemon creek, the Reach, the Triangle by Tottenville, VZ and finally West Bank. Here is the total, 5 Sharks, two short Fluke, one Snapper and a ton of Rockin' Robins.
It was a nice day on the water.

hello all
went out on sunday am with my son and two of his friends had a nice day water was calm
spent most of the morning over near hoffman island caught acouple of snappers and about 18 sea robbins (tell you they are getting big) all went back
also picked up two sand sharks nice fight about 28 inches each
decided to head in around 1:oo trolled the umbrella rig in hooked two nice blues smallest was 19 lb
stopped at the bug light before heading in to give fluke a last try for the season
then it happened!!!!!
the starter on the boat went tried to bang it no luck, dropped anchor and called sea tow
took about 45 mins to get to me brought me back to the slip. i guess it could have been worse starter could have failed before i went fishing!

just a side note to all the boaters Sea Tow is a very wise investment the fee for the year is about $140.00, if i did not belong to sea tow the charge would have been $750.00 for that tow alone

went down on monday and pulled the starter have to take it back to harbor marine i think its still under warentee!!! hope to be back running by friday. extended forcast calls for rough seas this weekend, hope not
reguards to all

Went out this evening with My Wife and Son off of the Lemon Creek Pier/Beach
My Wife chose to stay on the pier while My Son and myself went down on the Beach towards
Mount Loretta point
My son started the evening off right away with 3 keeper Snappers and My Wife scored three
off of the Pier while I just got one Cocktail
Blue about 2 feet long that gave me a real fight
to get him in
Over all an enjoyable evening

Went out today with my friend Michael crabbing. We got five dozen along with seven softies.
Was a good day, not a great one because we usually do around eight to twelve dozen.
This was our yearly crabbing trip.
Most likely will be taking the boat out Friday and see what is hanging around the VZ, hope it's the Weaks.
