I'm glad I don't live in Morro Bay, even though I grew up there. I was down last weekend visting my brother, the weather was most excellent. We spent some time at Dockside drinking Fat Tire. If I lived there I'd spend 99% of my time kicking it at Dockside drinking Fat Tire eating fish tacos, the other 1% of time would be spent hitting the restroom. Carl |

Fished South of Pismo for all of 15min before pulling the plug. Never looked at the tides, seeing that I was going to be down that way regardless. Outgoing to near low tide and wind made it impossible. Nice walk down the beach. BRITT: White bass are staging back in the narrows right now, so fishing has been pretty good. Spawn should start very soon. Spotted Bass are thick around the Marina area and Las Tables. |

All fish came on the incoming .... High tide shut them down so packed it up in time for Sushi at Goshi's May see you out there, good luck |

Hey Will... I don't go to the external weblink either anymore, as John kicks me in the head with an email forecast every single day. I think that's the best way, but keep in mind, you WILL BE RECEIVING IT EVERY SINGLE DAY! At the bottom of the email, it reads: "If you would like to subscribe or unsubscribe to this daily forecast, please send an email to PGEweather@pge.com. Any questions about this forecast please E-mail John Lindsey at jcl5@pge.com or contact by phone at 546-5265." So if you're good to go, lob John an email and you'll get the weather every day, delivered right into your hot little hands, via your in-box. Hope that helps. ... MP |

Been a couple years since I have dropped in here .... (LACK OF TUNA).... Anyway, fished Perch on Sunday around San Simeon, due to the herd of sheep on the outside and the wind kicking up the coast. Pulled a handfull of SLABS 12-14 inches and 2-3lbs. All fish on GULPS and pulled 4lb like no other. Back at it this weekend. Dustin |

2nd that Bob May. It been a no brainer that the MLPA has not been about conservation or the environment; it it about politics, power and control. At least there is more evidence that proves it now, more than ever. I'd certainly support repeal. I can live with bag limits, seasons (especially closed seasons during spawn), etc. but taking our freedom is a bridge (way) too far. Cloud out |

Here's a partial report of our trip down to La Paz. Day 1, Saturday Feb. 21st., head out from Santa Margarita with 2 vehicles (Chevy Suburban and GMC 3500 pickup) and 4 hombres (Brad Farrow, Dr. Bob Haining, Skip, and myself) at 6:00 AM. I got the green light at the border but was pulled into secondary anyway. Showed the jefe my letter from the La Balandra Rotarians and he let us go without even opening the back of my pickup. My buddy is getting his visa while this is happening. Stop at the Mariscos Palapa restaurant in San Quintin and Brad fits a below knee drop foot brace to a guy who works there. We've been seeing this man for about 3 years at the Flying Sams Clinic at Los Pinos ranch and he was due for a new brace. On to El Rosario to spend the night at the Baja Cactus (very nice-recommended). Next morning on to Coco's Corner to cast and measure him for his bilateral below knee prostheses. One tailpipe falls off (Suburban) and one flat tire experienced (GMC). On to the Malarrimo Hotel for a nights stay and whale watching the next AM. Return from whale watching, get flat fixed, and drive to San Ignacio that afternoon to get our permits for guides, mules, burros, and cameras for the cave paintings at San Francisco de la Sierra. Spend the night at the Oasis Hotel and we're off early the next morning to SF de la Sierra to meet up with our guides (Ramone and Angel) at one of their ranchos, load up gear and off to Santa Theresa. About 4 1/2 hours later we arrive at a ranch where they sell COLD BEER and for only a buck fifty US (they have to pack it in by mule!). The beer wasn't ice cold because of no power, but sits in an adobe building so stays pretty cool. Continue riding mules another 2 hours to the campsite. Set up camp and have steaks (brought in packed in dry ice) and potatos under the stars. After breakfast of more steaks, the next day is spent hiking to several cave painting sites and one petroglyph site. It was hot and I would classify the hiking as moderately difficult. Good dinner that night and ride out the next morning, stopping of course for another cold beer at Rancho Santa Theresa. Get back to San Francisco early afternoon and Dr. Bob holds a clinic where we fit a knee brace to an old guy with osteoarthritis of his right knee, and fit an AFO (drop foot brace) to a young man with head trauma via auto accident. Also learn that Ramone's son, who is going to school in Loreto, wears bilateral AFO's after having surgery at Shriners Hospital in LA some time ago. On to Santa Rosalia to spend the night and see a little girl who wears an AFO and a shoe lift. She suffered a gunshot wound to the growth plate in her upper thigh so she has a drop foot and a leg length discrepancy. Then on to Mulege to cast an above elbow amputee for a prosthesis. Stopped in Loreto where Brad and Dr. Bob cast and measured Ramone's son for new AFO's. Arrived in La Paz before nightfall. We arrived in La Paz and checked in to the Villa Marina Hotel that the Rotarians arranged and paid for during our stay. It includes breakfast each morning and is a very nice hotel to stay in. It sits right next to a very large marina (someone told me the second largest in La Paz), that is part of the same complex as the hotel. Breakfast is spent overlooking the marina and Sea of Cortez each morning. Saturday and Sunday are spent cleaning up and organizing the fabrication laboratory and patient fitting room at the special education complex where we hold the clinic. We had brought down a ton of stuff that was donated, filling up all of Brad's Suburban and most of my long bed pickup, that we needed to offload at our clinic. Monday morning starts the clinic, with Dr. Bob, Brad, and Dr. Alejandro Aguirre evaluating and measuring/casting various patients, while Skip and I mostly stay in the fabrication lab making legs, arms, and braces. The clinic starts at 9:00AM and runs until ???, usually we stop at around 6 or 6:30PM. One of the Rotarians will bring us by lunch every weekday, everything from seafood to Chinese to fried chicken, all very delicious. Tuesday night we attend the weekly Rotarian meeting at the same hotel we're staying at. They used to hold their meetings at the Los Arcos Hotel, but with it's closing they now hold it at the Villa Marina. During the week more volunteers fly in, including Brad's daughter Becky, Dr. Bob's daughter Julie, Frank Rodriguez CP(e), and Rich (sorry, I forgot his last name) who is a prosthetist/orthotist from the Concord/Walnut Creek area. They all pitch in to help at the clinic for the next week or so, flying back to the US at various times. One day we insisted that Becky and Julie go whale watching. They came back that night just bubbling! They both had one of the best experiences of their lives at Puerto Chale, a small section of southern Mag Bay. By Sunday most everybody leaves for the US including Dr. Bob, Skip, Julie, and Becky. Rich stays until Wed. or Thurs., and Louise (Brad's wife) arrives during this time by plane to ride back by car with Brad when we're finished at the clinic. So basically, we spend 17 days working at the clinic, taking one day off on a Sunday. I think Alejandro said we saw a total of 46 patients, but I don't know if that includes the 7 we saw on our drive down. The Friday before we leave the Rotarians had a closing ceremony at the complex. Rotarians along with their families were there, bringing food and beverages, as well as several of the patients we had seen over the previous 2 weeks. One special guest was the American actor John Amos, who, besides starring in his own sitcom and appearing in many TV shows and movies, played one of the roles of "Kunta Kinte" in Alex Haley's TV series "Roots." I happened to meet John one morning at the "Dingy Dock," the restaurant at the hotel. I introduced myself and told him of what we were doing in La Paz. He was also down there (he lives there part time) doing his own philanthropic activities. See: http://www.thehalleyscometfoundation.org/ While he was having breakfast, I ran back to Dr. Bob's room to get him over there before John left. Bob has grown to know me well by now, and thought that I was pulling his leg. Boy was he surprised!! Anyway, Dr. Bob, Dr. Alejandro (who just happened to show up that morning), and I sat with John and explained what the Rotarians were doing, and he agreed to lend his celebrity to our closing ceremonies. He was quite the hit, with almost everybody there getting their picture taken with him. Alejandro joked that maybe he could get Sharon Stone to appear at their next clinic. After the ceremony, I had the chance to show John and his lady Madeline our fitting room and fabrication lab and explain how we made various limbs and braces. It was quite the treat for me as well. Saturday and Sunday and Monday were spent seeing the last of the patients (or so we thought), and Brad and Frank fit and delivered a hip disarticulation prostheses (one MAJOR project). Louise takes Frank to the airport that afternoon. She and Brad will head off to Loreto on Tuesday morning to see some of the patients on their way home. The next morning when we arrive at the clinic to do a final clean up and inventory for the next clinic - SURPRISE!! There are several patients and their families waiting to see us. We work through the morning finishing up and Brad and Louise leave for Loreto. I stay at the hotel one more night and attend another Rotarian meeting, getting a chance to thank all the guys for their kindness during our stay. The next morning I leave for home... To be continued......... |

San Diego News Paper State Senate Majority Leader Dean Florez To Investigate MLPA Funding By Ed Zieralski March 29, 2009, 12:43 p.m. It's just a guess, but Resources Secretary Michael Chrisman and Fish and Game Commissioner Michael Sutton soon may be sweating in their seats while being grilled by state senators over Sutton's alleged conflicts of interest and the funding of the Marine Life Protection Act. Sen. Dean Florez, a Democrat from Shafter, is a powerful man, and it's not nice to try and dupe powerful men. Florez is the state Senate Majority Leader and also recently was named the Democratic caucus chairman of the new budget oversight committee. Considering the state's dire financial situation, that is one very important job that Sen. Florez has taken. He'll be in charge of reaching into the state's wallet for funds, and he's going to want to know what is worthwhile and what isn't. And right now he's asking probing questions about the Marine Life Protection Act that calls for a statewide network of marine protected areas and no fishing zones off California. Florez joined other state senators such as Sen. Denise Moreno Ducheny (D-San Diego) and Sen. Bob Dutton (R-Rancho Cucamonga) in the search for answers about the MLPA process and its funding. California Fish and Game Commissioner Dan Richards of Upland initiated the questions months ago when he asked the Department of Fish and Game to provide a detailed analysis of the costs of potential fishing closures off the coast of California. Commissioner Richards now has been joined by these key state senators who want to know how this fisheries Act, which was passed in 1999, went from potentially costing the state $250,000 a year to a projected cost of $30 million to $40 million a year once all the marine protected areas are in place. Thus far, closures are in place off the Central Coast, and the environmental impact report for the North Central Coast was released this week by the Department of Fish and Game. The Fish and Game Commission will vote on those closures later in the year. Florez' questions surfaced in a big way Saturday night at a Coastside Fishing Club fundraiser in San Rafael. Florez' topic was, according to sources there: "The runaway cost of the MLPA and the special interests running the process." Florez told the recreational anglers he will call a hearing to look deeply into MLPA process to see why the projected costs went from $250,000 a year to an estimated $35 million per year to run. He told the anglers he has the blessing of Senate President pro Tem Darrell Steinberg (D – Sacramento) to go forward with the investigation. Florez will call Resources Secretary Mike Chrisman before the Committee and ask him about MLPA funding sources and any potential conflicts of interest. Florez told the group he wants to know why Commissioner Michael Sutton failed to list his income from the Monterey Bay Aquarium on state Form 700 during the Commission vetting process. Florez specifically said he wants to find out if Sutton, who is an officer at the Monterey Bay Aquarium, has conflicts of interest regarding the Marine Life Protection Act. Sutton once was an officer in the Packard Foundation, and the Packard Foundation, through the Resources Legacy Fund Foundation, is funding the MLPA process. Thus far, the RLFF has poured over $18 million into the MLPA process to keep it going at a time when state funds are shrinking. The Packard Foundation also gave over $123 million over three years to the Monterey Bay Aquarium, where Sutton works. Sources close to the MLPA process say Chrisman, Sutton and MLPA Initiative staff, particularly executive director Ken Wiseman, are growing increasingly nervous about questions about Sutton's conflicts of interest and the funding of the process. Sources say Wiseman has resorted to calling key members of the South Coast Stakeholders Group, which is in the process of forming fishing closures off Southern California, and has asked that they tone down their criticism of the funding and the process. Chrisman and Sutton have both gone on record saying it's not important that the money isn't there to fund the MLPA. Sutton was quoted saying if the Fish and Game Commission waited for money from the Legislature, no fish and game regulations would ever pass. Meantime, the state is in the throes of deep budget cuts, mandatory furlough days for state employees. It faces a $42 billion deficit that could grow to $50, depending on the outcome of voter propositions set for May. Sources indicate the Department of Fish and Game has been ordered to complete detailed reports about what has been spent on the MLPA process, what is being spent now and what will it cost to implement all the fishing closures and marine protected areas once this process is complete. The DFG reported back to the Commission at Commissioner Dan Richards' request earlier on the estimated costs of the entire MLPA, and that's how the figure of $30 million to $40 million was reached. That money would cover the necessary scientific monitoring, law enforcement and public outreach. |

Well since you ask, 8hr rockfish daily. In addition long range shallow water (freelance style - rockfish, halibut, available exotics) every Friday. Long range every Sunday except when there is a two day. Two days are 1st & 3rd Sat/Sun of every month. Also will be reviving the John Rowley tournaments on the last Sunday of evey month with a "tornament of champions" (top 35 places from the season) in Nov. Call for details, new website coming but will be another month or two. Pray for tuna. I'm still looking for a 8' - 14' skiff for the bait boat if anyone has a junker they want to get rid of. BOB - NICE BASS!! |

Been lurking on the boards for a few years now and finally decided I had to post. Seems like a good crew. Did a bit of bounce ballin' today in Avila... spot sixteen and back. No luck, but did see a few whales come up about 50ft from the boat. Good to be back on the water. Anybody had any luck on the 'buts yet? |

I used to wear my licnese dead center between my back pockets until the warden told me it had to be above my waist. When the law to wear the license was inacted license sales went way up. They pat themselves on the back for it but since I sell licenses I know it is because people loose them faster now too! I see it happen on the boats when the wind takes it away and then they have to explain to the warden at the dock why they don't have a license!! For that reason I don't wear it. I have never heard of anyone getting a ticket for not wearing it on the ocean so long as it was readily available. I think the local wardens understand the loss factor and how rediculous it is. |

Doesn't everyone know this! Did you make it to page 3? Section 700(a). Display of Sport Fishing License (Title 14, California Code of Regulations) Every person, while engaged in taking any fish, invertebrate [including mollusks and crustaceans],amphibian, or reptile shall display their valid sport fishing license by attaching it to their outer clothing at or above the waistline so that it is plainly visible, except when diving as provided in Section 7145 of the Fish and Game Code. Persons diving from a boat or shore may have their license on the boat or within 500 yards on the shore, respectively (see Fish and Game Code Section 7145). Same for freshwater too! |

As I remember the DFG repealed the rule requiring anglers to wear their license so I checked the 88 pages of rules and couldn't find any rule about wearing licenses. The last time I got boarded my license was in my wallet and it was ok. Bob |

Last summer we had two wardens come over to our boat and ask to board. I had my license on, my friend had his in his tackle box and my brother had left his in the truck back at the launch in Morro Bay. They were very nice to us. They wrote my brother up for not having a license, which was his fault for leaving it in the truck. We had caught our 10 rockfish limit and we had 2 lingcod. They let my friend and I keep fishing for 2 more lings; one of which I caught while they were writing the ticket. I thought the wardens were great. They let us keep all the fish. |

License display has some logic, but the reality these days is that we get checked and re checked for Limits,Species,Min Halibut/Ling Size,Gear/rod count,if salmon-Barbless hooks,Depth,Location open or close,no take zones, open close season, hook count, and probably a dozen more. I Often dont mind an inspection from an informed and polite warden But back in Salmon days It was a pain in the stern to pull all the gear so Drew could check us for barbs. And in many cases I think they figure out who/which of us are trying to comply. I havent been hasseled over fishing 50 horizontal feet past the 20 fathom line or having a 21.999" hialibut but I have heard of some who have been. I dont wear on my hat but on a cord around my neck that sometimes ends up on my back or under my arm etc. The guys who write the rules are to blame , Not the wardens most of the time in my opinion. My opinion is not the law but I would think any warden that writes a failure to display ticket to someone with it immediate possession with no warning is in need of some situational wisdom. Circumstances may be when they write that violation because they need to keep their citation count up for management scrutiny, as wrong as that may be. The warden who never catches a violation wont likely get promoted. Some years We get checked 20 times, last year I think we only got checked once and they did take flashed licenses from the adultson board as boarding or pulling too close along side would have been hazardous. Some of them do exercise discretoion. Its a bigger pain for me if I Day fish Naci and its 100 degrees, then I want to wear my license on my Foam Can cooler. Anyway, I hope they change it but dont think they will. |

Mike and Tim, Thank you for your informed replies. I agree Tim, it is a damn good boat, the aluminum floor boards are in Ok shape and the 50Hp Merc still runs tight. It served me well, over a 20+ year period, while diving the northern cali coast from Tomales to Mendocino not to mention all the fishing I did... they sure don't build them like that anymore is right. I will check out Tradewind and hopefully get other leads. And Tim, I just may give you a call and tap some of that old-school experience and tips. Thanks so much to you both! |

Mad Portagee thanks for the support. Tim: Thanks for the comments but that just doesn't work for me. I do not, and will not, wear hats. Pinning to clothes means every time I take off a layer (pretty common in these parts) I have to re-pin; annoying enough in itself--and my memory ain't what it used to be. That will be the time when Murphy intervenes, the Warden pulls up, and outa the hundreds if not thousands of times (literally) I've worn the license - I could get a ticket. It also makes no sense *at all* that a fisher cannot use their receipt (the one you use to get a replacement) for a one-time event if it is lost. Sheesh why even have it? This is not a vent on you, so please don't take it personally. I'm just getting real sick and tired of all the laws that keep piling up and up and up, making it more and more and more difficult to have an enjoyable fishing day--after working my *A* off to make it happen. Finally, wearing the license has never, ever prevented a boarding or rubber boat check in my experience. So--I'm against *any* more laws, that make no sense, create added and/or unnecessary danger, take any more enjoyment out of an increasingly rare (and expensive) day on the big pond, or un-necessarily strip any more of our recreational freedoms (Ref: MLPA). I support no wear and invite any that feel the same to join in the repeal effort. Again the website is: http://www.sportcon.org/nowear.html Cloud out. PS: Beware the Bronzespotted Rockfish/Sebastes Gilli. Good luck with ID. |

Another note to the licence issue , all our wardens are local and once they check you , thats usally the last time they will ever stop, they know who the law abiding fisherman are . We fisherman are the only folks that have to display a licence , driving your car , hunting , walking your dog , NOT Blackie |

Cloud... I hear you roar... and I agree! It's pretty easy to get knocked over by a wave while perch jerkin', or get bounced off of a rock... etc, and drop that little piece of gold into the drink. For many many years it was good enough that you purchased the license and were allowed to keep it safe in your wallet or in a covered or closed pocket, but it's not good enough anymore. The excuse that they don't have to bother you while fishing, or so they don't have to board your vessel is just that... an excuse. I have had many license checks while perch fishing, having to come out of the water anyways, all the while displaying the brightly-colored dangling proof from my neck. Ditto on the boat - although I personally don't mind a license check, or a boarding. It just means DFG is doing their job. Hell, most of the time, they're pretty cool dudes & gals to chat with, and sometimes may even clue you in with some tips. So DFG... please keep doing a good job, and let me put my expensive license back into my pocket where I know it's safe & sound, even when Mother Nature decides to put my swimming skills to the test. ... George, you might start with Tradewinds but you're gonna have to find someone with oldschool experience to get the appropriate materials. Your Grand Raid was made with a Hypalon/Neoprene sandwiched material...black neo on one side, hypalon grey on the other. You could get away with fabric and parts off an Avon if they happen to be available. The primary difference was Avon used a 100% hypalon, identical mat'l on both sides. I was a rep for the importer of Avon/British Seagull and we had the biggest repair facility and liferaft repacking station on the west coast. I've owned and run both Avons and Zodiacs since the 70's and did my fair share of pretty major factory repairs and complete rebuilds but that industry went to shit after Achilles came in from Japan and everybody started buying cheap PVC boats. You've got a good boat...they don't make them like that anymore but all the contacts I had for years have just dried up since the good ol' days. If you locate materials and need help, I could probably remember all the factory tricks I learned from our old service manager. I'll dig through the memory bank and see if I can find any info on the facilities I used to work with that did heavy repairs...there weren't many. Regarding Fishing License placement. I have NEVER experienced in all my years, a Warden that was satisfied by just looking at my license from afar. I have ALWAYS been boarded and had the license inspected face to face with a Warden. With all the requirements we have now for Bay/Delta Stamps....whatever that other stamp is needed down south, and I'm sure the next stamp we'll need to wipe our ass inside the 3 mile limit, the conspicuous license rule should be put to rest. Get rid of it. It worked for about <> that long. |

Question: My old boat a all hypalon constructed, 17.5' Zodiac Mk IV Grand Raid circa 1979 is in dire need of some TLC. I would like to refurbish it, starting with the replacement of the two (2) neoprene rubber cones found at the stern and end of each pontoon. Does anyone have a source contact information for these types of parts and/or additional inflatable products to assist me in this endeavor. Thank you in advance for your assistance. |

I ask you to visit the following website and support “No Wear”. I am sick of having to have my license dangling from my neck to be entangled in downriggers and/or other equipment, which adds one more serious danger to a sport that is already full of them. The CA Fish/Game Commission has agreed to put the issue on its Agenda—now we need to show support; if you agree. Took me less than 5 minutes and I added a substantial amount of comment. Please go here: http://www.sportcon.org/nowear.html Biteson: I've had great success at San Antone with Rattletraps and a black wire leader. Rattletrap in both large and small sizes, the kind that look like a small striper (brown with black stripes). The wire leader to protect 8-10 lb test from those razor sharp gill plates. Same lure with silver leaders got no bites. Cloud out |

McIdiot, McTreehugger, McSlimeball...The list goes on. They said they stock both units. I will let you know. Here are a few photos of the project under construction. We are closing in the rear jump seats with starboard for tackle storage. Got most of the wiring squared away this weekend and the pumps rewired. Can't wait for may.

Fish Report Saturday 3/21 Santa Cruz Island--Prisoners, Chinese, The Gap, Yellow Banks: Slow for everyone. Caught several nice Scorpionfish, one Grass Rockfish and a few other legal RF's, total of 7. Low-pressure ridge shut the bite down pretty good. They were there on the sonar but just had lockjaw. Public Service Message: Sebastes Gilli a.k.a Bronzespotted Rockfish has been added to the no-take list, same as Canary and Yelloweye. It's been considered "uncommon" along Calif. for many years. There was very poor information about ID'ing these new no-take fish at DFG's website, had to Google elsewhere for decent images and specie-specific ID tips. Cloud out |

Regarding trimming antenna follow this link to Shakespeare's site. They state you may trim but must leave at least 3 feet. http://www.shakespeare-marine.com/faq2.asp?ReqNum=1 Biggest issue is ensuring clean solid connection at the PL259. Also a good ground on the radio helps keep noise down. Some equipment (sounders...) may interfere with your reception such that some one needs to be close to cut through the noise circuits on your radio. I have experienced this and found my radio was transmitting but couldn't hear the responses. VHF is only line of site and typically only good for ~12 miles boat to boat. All depends on height of the antenna as to how far it can "see" over the horizon. Google VHF antenna range and there are some good tech notes regarding this. |

I put a new VHF and Antenna on my C Dory a while back. It never got the range of the previous vhf. I talked to Johnson and Hicks marine electronics in Santa Cruz and they told me I should not of cut the cable. I like you only needed a couple of feet. If you fish close to shore no big deal. I tend to wander farther than I should so the longer I can stay in radio range with others is a plus. I would not cut it! |

Lowrance says..... "For saltwater fishing and tracking downrigger balls, the 50/200kHz dual-frequency 12°/35° transducer is the best choice. " As Far as the antenna lead goes I think the most important consideration is the connection at the pl259/cable. (I think its a pl259?) How often do we hear of trouble from a bad connection there.(or elsewhere.) Do a good connection job, keep it away from the saltwater as best you can and make sure the other connections are clean and protected . As Far as Lead length it wont matter too much if there is room to coil it,but if it gets in the way at all ,clip some off. save yourself enough slack to inspect it "pulled out" if you do clip it. I dont think clipping increases range. Antenna "Gain" increases possible TX range but the radiation pattern narrows as gain increases.its a compromise. Antenna height is also important. Also some "protectant products" may help at the pl 259 or other connectors. Let us know how your install Works out. especially that new #7 finder. saw them at fred hall, nice. |

Transducer and VHF antenna question. Just finishing the rigging on the 21 lund project after a repower with a 140 suzuki. Specialty in Oxnard did the engine swap. They did a great job and Eric was easy to work with gave me a great price. I am getting ready to install the antenna (shakespear 8' mariner) on the t-top and wanted some info on antenna cord length. All I need to get to the radio head is about 3 feet but was not sure if I should cut the cord that short or coil it and tie it off. Did not know if this makes a difference in the range and performance of the radio. Also I am looking at the Lowrance HDS 7 combo gps and chart plotter. They have two different transducer options. One is a 83/200 mhz which they say is for water up to 900 feet. The other is 50/200 mhz and is rated for deeper water. Since we do a lot of bottom fishing and a fair amount of chasing tuna when they are here and plan to take the boat to baja, I was not sure if the 83/200 transducer would be better for the bottom fishing and still mark schools of tuna and bait when the water is deeper than 900 feet. Any help is appreciated. The guys here are always a wealth of info. |
