Have always respected you John. I know you dont remember me, except from the old days on Allcoast and maybe on the radio. Hope your still fishing the canyon for cod and that you can get your son on the boat from time to time. Always was jealous of you being able to get out and share that time fishing Grass Bass and offshore for a living. See you out there. |

ok, now that the rumbulling has cooled off on the bass.I have a great suggestion on the subject on how to not worry about the female bass making it home. First get some grease good and hot, a little batter and fry her up. With the extra fat she has put on, it would be mighty tastey in the skillet and while you are at it, get a few, Thrasher shark fillets and barbeque them. Oh what the heck, get some 2 to 3 inch Pismo clams and boil them up along with some fresh Pacific Silver salmon and a cold beer! Now that is living! Just joking guys!!!Well it is now down to 2 months and we should see the first signes of the early Albacore bite, just can not stand it!Hope to see everyone out for the bottom day opener.I also remember a guy on the coast that repairs reels? Does any one have his name or number. Mike onieda b |

no worries , dustin....i'm always a friend on the water and sometimes a grouch off of the water!.....i'm hoping for some warm clean water full of bait and close to home this year...we could all use a nice shot of local albies to make us smile...it's been too long, the pantry is close to empty. |

The Abalone diving in Mendocino was excellent this weekend, good weather and limits for the crew,I cooked some last night and it was spectacular! it's the only seafood that I put a few drops of lemon on, (I don't know why?).The new report cards are much easier to use this year because you can actually write on them...good luck if you go, great tides this year. Bloody decks forever!! |

Agreed John ... Was a post about me and my kids fishing more than anything else. The fact that I mentioned fishing bedding fish may have been a mistake. I truly don’t see the big deal unless those Females are taken from their beds to be weighed in and released 8 miles from the spot caught. Margarita is thriving as far as the LMB population goes; I have pulled more big fish from that lake than any other in the state. We have shared water many times during Tuna season in the past; I guess we can agree to disagree on this. Still fishing, and me sharing times with my kids with rod and reel (Bedding fish or not) is more important to me than the debate about right or wrong. |

the debate about fishing for bass on thier beds has gone on longer than i've been alive...i don't think it's much of a conservation matter in most lakes these days...nobody is talking about banning fishing, it's more of question of ethics...in full spawn, a female will strike out at a friggin beer can if it enters her 'zone'...any waterhead can catch a spawning female or a defending male in the shallows this time of year... i just don't see the point of broadcasting to the world that it's easy pickings on bed fishing right now....the fishing way of life was better before the internet. |

Live bait in Morro Bay? Good question. Doing alot of work to get ready and keep better bait. New recievers will hopefully be sea lion resistant so bait will be healthier and cure better. Doug is working furiously on the net, it could have been started in January but alas. . . Boat needs work and I have much to do to get Virg's ready still. Short answer? June-ish. |

Hey Darby, what is the outlook on the Billy Boy and bait situation in the coming months? A lot of optimism about us finally getting albacore to slide in here instead of just Diego and Oregon this year. Would be nice in this crappy economy to see you guys get the business you did 6 years ago. |

Why stop at bed fishing? Why don't we just ban take on all females? But then they might die if caught when trying to catch a male. So why not just ban fishing all together? |

Dustin, My post is my feelings on bed fishing. As anybody in the know, knows... When a female if pulled from her nest and not released within the 1st few minutes, the nest is compromised. In tourny fishing the fish is taken to a weigh station... Hense, a dead nest. Bed fishing should be illegal... Period |

I am not going to get into the ethics of fishing bedding fish. To be honest I have only fished one tournament that it came into play. AND I have never seen a femaale released that has not returned to her bed withing a minute of being released. The majority of the fish my buddy pulled were males on the outside of the beds. But in a tourny ...... you can bet those guys will be shaking the beds for money. I DONT MAKE THE RULES! Been two years since I have been on this board .... guess we dont talk fishing any longer. Fished from the shore for the first time in years out at Margarita with the kids. Buddy I use to fish the WON circuit with put a bug in my ear, so had to check it out. He pulled over a half dozen over 5lbs and a HOG at 11.2 last weekend. Fish are all on their BEDS, and all sight fishing. Wind came up and made it impossible from the shore ...but the big girls are protecting those beds, Fishing is GOOD! |

Otter may be used also. Lemon and seal are truly a marriage made in heaven, and this lemony fresh seal recipe will quickly become a favorite. It's Sardinian; to serve 4: Prep Time: 3 hours, 5 minutes Cook Time: 25 minutes Ingredients: A fresh seal fillet weighing about 1 1/3 pounds (600 g), cut into half-inch (1.2 cm) rounds A small onion, peeled and sliced 2 tablespoons minced parsley 1 tablespoon lemon juice 5 tablespoons olive oil 4 lemon slices, cut into wedges (use an organic lemon if possible) Salt and pepper to taste Preparation: Combine a scant half cup of water (200 ml) with the lemon juice, parsley, and oil, and season the mixture to taste with salt and pepper. Marinate the seal in the liquid for three hours. When the marinating time is almost up, preheat your oven to 360 F (180 C). Put the seal chunks in a pan, sprinkle the onion and some of the marinade over it, season lightly with salt and pepper, and roast it for 20-25 minutes. Transfer the seal to a serving dish, decorate it with the lemon wedges, spoon the pan drippings over it, and serve. The wine? White, and a Verdicchio would be nice. Enjoy, Carl |

So now some dunderhead is out whacking otters & seals, and collecting their domes as trophies, huh? Nice. Okay - 'fess up! Which one of you vigilante salmon fishermen or clammers has been swingin' the hatchet? As much as I dislike otters & seals, if I find out it's one of us, I'm rolling over on you. Hello gentlemen, Well we’ve got the launch dredged out and its looking good for opening day May 1. A few things are going to be a little different this year. We are running the launch out of the water taxi office that is at the end of the building. We will not be in the main store anymore, we couldn’t choke the extra $1500 a month the harbor wanted and didn’t want to raise the fees. We’ll have a little tackle and bait available in the office. We moved all the marine supplies and boat parts over in the boatyard. We kept the Suzuki and Yamaha dealership with parts and service over in the boatyard as well. We will be expanding the hours of operation this year. We will be opening ½ hour before sunrise and closing ½ hour before sunset. We’ll go by the 2009 tide book for sunrise and sunset times. (Times are posted in book) The bummer is that if you would like to get a mooring you will have to be on it by 4:00 if you need a ride by the water taxi. The harbor wouldn’t go for extending the taxi hours. The launch will no longer be called Portside Marine, it now a part of Port San Luis Boatyard. We are hoping to have a great fishing season this year with lots of rockcod, halibut, and hopefully the Albacore will show up! I'll be posting fish reports here this year as will as the phone line - 595-2803. So if any of you have any questions please feel free to call us 595-7895 or 595-7214. Thanks and hope to see you all soon. --Marty |

Blackie, my family has had a place in Ketchum/Sun Valley since '91. Skiing in the winter and a bunch of fly fishing, hiking, and cycling in the summers. Didn't fish this trip, just hit the slopes every day....but the guys fishing the Big wood in Ketchum were getting the 'bows mid day on dries, and on nymphs early and late. There are steelies up there on the Salmon river right now as well. The Big Lost River was fishing very well, over towards Mackay. Really is no anti - California sentiment in the area we are in, as most everyone there has moved up there from here! At least it seems that way sometimes. I love it up there, and if this state keeps shutting down available waters and if my teaching job goes south....Ketchum is where I'm going. |

Got back from two great weeks in Idaho last Saturday, and since then have hit the suds (beers and surf!!) between work and boat work. We've had weedy water down here in SB, but if you can find clean water you'll find the bigger models are now on the beach....many preggo. I'm trying some new stuff rather than my standby bloody sandworms by GULP....and having good luck with the little "nuclear chickens" (kinda psychedelic looking) and and the little two inch camo sandworm pieces. The channel has been really windy, though. |

Britt, Dont expect the water in that lake to raise an inch before next winter. Would not doubt they drain it down to less than 20% this summer. Hit Cayucus with the 4lb hopeing those slabs were still around. Negative tide shut it down. Even two hours before high tide only pulled one silver and Farmed a half dozen small bites. Will be back at it this week D |

Dustin and Dave, Thanks for the Nacimiento info. We went Saturday. Only caught one white bass in the narrows. In the afternoon, we moved to Las Tables and caught 12 more and several black and spotted bass. The weather was great. The lake sure is low right now. Will it come up more before June? |

This is from Bob Franko of Coastside Please take a minute to cut and paste the URL and fill out the form, it took me a total of 50 seconds. Thanks, Carl Sorry guys, the original link was invalid, so here is the corrected link....thanks, Bob Link http://capwiz.com/keepamericafishing/issues/alert/?alertid=13065401 Folks It’s with sincere regret that I once again am forced to seek your help. The issues before us are many, and they are at critical stages. I like you want a fishery for future generations and the only real tool we have is the grass roots efforts the e-mail faxes etc. We must once again rally to send a message to the Fish and Game Commission with the pre written message in link below. This time will only take minutes as you will see after you hit the link. Believe me I’m as tired of this stuff as you are, but we have no choice, it’s up to us |

Our Governer declares a drought and is going to remove dams for salmon and smelt at the same time. Don`t make sense. In fact from what I can get out of this he did declare a drought and is going to build more dams, peripheral canal dams to aid in our water shortage `crisis`. This will most likely hurt the fisheries further. I was hoping the our governing peoples would pull their heads out of thier brown holes but..... |

Alright Bob (Hather), I see the date on that....if it is an April fools story it's time to come clean. I find nothing about Gov's Press Conference anywhere at the link at bottom of story (broken URL) and there is nothing in the CSCPA website. And that, if true, would be huge news. April 1--uh huh. Truth or Fiction Bob? Where can it be verified? Cloud out |

I think the pressure comes from the MLPAs messing with the southern half of the State. (The big Boys)....MLPAs should have been disbanded long ago. |

Also I commend him for coming around and seeing the truth. I just hope that his change of policy is morally inspired and not some kind of political ploy. |

Good news: pril 1, 2009 -- Sacramento -- In a hastily assembled press >>> conference at the State Capitol today, Governor Arnold >>> Schwarzenegger apologized for the damage he has caused the state's >>> fisheries and contritely reversed his long standing support for a >>> peripheral canal, according to breaking news from the California >>> Sportfishing Protection Alliance, http://www.calsport.org. >>> >>> Governor Apologizes for Destroying California Fisheries, Reverses >>> Position on Canal >>> >>> by Dan Bacher >>> >>> In an epic conversion like that of Saint Paul of Tarsus, Governor >>> Arnold Schwarzenegger this morning apologized to the public for his >>> role in the destruction of California's fish populations during a >>> hastily assembled press conference at the State Capitol in >>> Sacramento. Central Valley chinook salmon, steelhead, green >>> sturgeon, delta smelt, longfin smelt and other fish populations are >>> in an unprecedented state of collapse, due to massive water exports >>> out of the California Delta and declining water quality - and >>> Schwarzenegger vowed to do everything in his power to reverse the >>> decline. >>> >>> "I greatly apologize to recreational anglers, commercial fishermen, >>> California Indian Tribes, environmentalists and the public for the >>> damage that my administration's policies have caused to California >>> fish populations," said Schwarzenegger, with tears streaming down >>> his face. "Starting today, I will begin a new initiative to place >>> the restoration of California's rivers, the Delta and coastal >>> waters as the number one priority of this administration." >>> >>> He announced a number of immediate measures that will go in effect >>> today. These include: >>> >>> . imposing a ban on suction dredge mining on California rivers >>> until new restrictions are developed by the DFG >>> >>> . instructing the Central Valley Regional Water Control Board to >>> adopt tough new water quality standards for agricultural dischargers >>> >>> . setting up a meeting with President Obama and Warren Buffett, >>> owner of the PacifiCorp's dams, to immediately begin dam removal on >>> the Klamath River. >>> >>> . rescinding the layoff notices of 98 Department of Fish and Game >>> wardens and cadets >>> >>> In a stunning break with his previous positions, Schwarzenegger >>> said that his plan to construct a peripheral canal around the Delta >>> and Temperance Flat and Sites reservoirs was ill advised and "wrong." >>> >>> "The public has spoken and all of the scientific evidence indicates >>> that building the canal and more dams would be a gigantic mistake," >>> Schwarzenegger said.
