It has been an interesting day in the neighborhood !
Thanks guys for all the support, I am humbled.
I learned a long time ago not to argue with out the facts to back you up.

Louie, you should have stopped your comments with me. As admiral Yamamoto said I fear you have awakened a sleeping giant. Valley boys and Steve !!! Oh my ! Half the guys on this site are valley boys.

Again thanks, and on to more important issues;

Wind will be up until wed here and monday at Monterey. Still socked in so no recent images. at least now we know where the fish are so go north.

If you knew Harrel personally (Louie,Louie)....you would have never said what you did. He is a Blue Chip, Top Notch Man, and if you did know him and ever needed help on anything to do with boats, electronics etc...He would help you with his vast knowledge and encyclopedia of a mind. He built a Sea Cat boat in his garage from scratch!! A BIG SEA CAT over 22ft with all the latest gear in his garage with his bare hands!!...Everyone who has fished with the in crowd around here since the early 1980's knows Harrell and respects him and admires him as a gentle soul with a great mind and a sharing spirit. He is a little older now and he takes great pride in helping the new generation of guys out there who are trying to learn the ropes as we all did 20 years ago. I have shared my boat with Harrell from San Diego to Santa Cruz on many Tuna runs and they don't come any better than that Man.
You need to know who your baggin on, because you have dug a hole now that is going to be hard to get out of...A personal apology that is real and heartfelt might be in order although Harrel is too good of a man to even admit this bothered him, we all who know him will protect his back anytime we see see fit....Better to know going in what is in store before you open your mouth again...Your probably an OK guy, just a little ignorant....until now anyway's.....Mike

8/11, warning, long post,11 hour "Skunk patrol/Bait limo" report, arrived at Port Sea Lion at 5am, tide ok,no boats in line, Launch opened a bit early, filled small bait tank w/water,headed over to mello boy for a half scoop that filled our bait tank (about4dozen med sardines and about 2 doz large anchovies)that stayed alive until return.(thanks Deke) we were told of 3boats that launched night before planning the offshore run. headed 250mag 22 knots into leftover mini slop that was gone by 6 miles, 57f inshore temp reading jumped to 59.5at about 12 miles, ocean full of life , temp61f at 30NM ,clear blue. put lines in and troll to 42miles, turned a bit and troll to a point 50nm 241mag out of PSL,reverse course
water up to 62f. @ 46.24NM Jim B Jr. sees a Large tuna do a "polaris missile" immitation 100yd away, (my guess bluefin as he didnt note long sidefins in a pretty good glimpse). toss some bait, troll pattern the area, no love. lots of small individual sharks visible on calm surface.
I only saw the re entry splash. other boats on radio overeard seeing jumpers. plenty of spots of bait, birds, porpise, whales and a couple boats seen on increasingly calm and glassy sea. headed back up the line as water was blue/hot and full of life that far out. We later saw a bunch of breezing fish, & as we aproached, about a half dozen small tuna(I think Skippies, squat, short fins, under 10#,fatter than bonito) flew into the air together next to us chasing small bait. windfall saw us working the area and contacted us on 68 as per Bobs post. Didnt want to quit trying as weather was perfect but we pulled the lines at 2:40pm and ran 25knots homeward, contaced sport launch once in cel range and they kept open for us until 4:30pm(thanks, i had already slept on the boat a couple nights lately). Sorry to boor you with a no catch prospecting report but everything but tuna lined up that day and some were caught here not long ago. 162 statue miles on triplog paddle wheel, 77gallons fuel , ready to try again with a hint of fish cooperation.

Louie,
Your gonna get flammed here. Harrell is a staple in our fishing community. I fished for years as a kid in gaviota and just got back into it a year ago. Not knowing anyone, I emailed Harrell. He invited me to his HOUSE, installed a chart for me, gave me some great advice and has constantly kept me up to date on his sophisticated tuna info gathering reports. I have called him from the water many times and he lead me to fish or pointed me in the right direction. If he chose not to go Tuesday it was for good reason and he was apparently right. Why flame a guy who does nothing BUT help this group and try and save us all money by spending countless hours doing research, coupled with decades of fishing experience that he so freely shares with the rest of us. Try another board Louie, you may have more friends there! Harrell thanks again for all that you do. For every "Louie" there is 100 of us who appreciate and applaud your efforts and welcome all your posts and knowlege.

Hey Steve go back to where ever you came from, we don't need any more people molesting those 24" poor fish. If you can't catch anything else any bigge,r maybe you should try a new spot, but ohh you don't know any other spots, because the ones who know the spots know how to keep them to themselves. Alright internet whores what now, I don't need to post more than 3 posts I already know where the fish are. Good luck and tight pussy Steve.

Tue. was family fishing day.Kids, nephews, ect. a boat load of kids having a great time fishing at Buchon. It's a toss up between tuna and watching a kid catch his first fish... I'll go with the kids. Yesterday was something they just could not get enough of and then they got to eat the fish they caught.

Ken and I ran out of Moss yesterday. Started just south west of the Monterey bouy for nothing. Pulled up and ran to 20 41 and put 15 albies in the boat in less than an hour. Some guys were putting 30-50 fish in the box. The fish are thick and on the chew. The fish we caught were all over 20 lbs (except 2 penuts)so we stopped with 15 and ran back in. We used black and purple but the fish were hitting everything. Blood on the decks and meat on the table!
Hay Stuart, did those fish keep hitting in the afternoon?

It takes a real douche-nozzle to cap on a guy like Harrell. Are you sure you want to go there, Louie?

Harrell, thanks for the call up yesterday!

We launched just in front of Harrell yesterday after making the decision to NOT run outside given that we had no solid intel on breaks or fish for that matter. We turned right, Harrell went left. Pea patch was absolutely dead at graylight and after about a couple hours or so Harrell called us with his Thresher report. We pulled the lines and ran at 25 kts to the River and worked north. We converged on Harrell and his group as they were making a southerly drift and when we got within a hundred yards of them, Harrell schooled us on how to catch a big slob halibut! We connected also just as he landed his and continued north up the line. Within 15 minutes, they had landed another toad.

We're not worthy!

Thanks again, Harrell. We picked up and ran to Sal and a little beyond then back up to Pea Patch. What a day on the water....we held a constant 24+ kts everywhere we went, right up until we headed for the barn at 3:45! Not often we can do that in these parts.

Louie, maybe someday you'll be qualified to swing from Harrells jockstrap but today, you don't.

Arrr....I hate replying to idiots, but I wanted to show Harrell my support.
Dude...Harrell is an old guy that loves fishing. He provides endless amounts of knowledge and help to this board. He is very well respected by all of the local captains. If you read his post a few days ago he said he needed at least 4 boats to launch for tuna (to get Marty to open up early) I'm guessing they didn't get the 4 boats.
Why come out with a post like this when you just joined the board. Try being a part of the community before you roast someone (I see you only have 2 posts).
Thanks for all your info and help over the years Harrell. You are deeply appreciated by folks on the Central Coast.
best fishes,
steve

Harrel all you talk about is going out for albacore, posting weather, getting everyone pumped up, but pussed out and let everyone else go out searching for them. Well atleast you only wasted a little gas to go to the coke plant and still got a report for the albies. Your the man.

Way to go Mark!! Hope you showed them to Darby. How many on bait ??

Darby; Looks like you win the pool with August. When is your first trip ?

The Davidson to the dogbone is where the main body of fish is according to Mark's and Monterey reports. At least an 80 mile run from Morro and 40 out of Monterey.

Probably have to wait for the next weather window.

Fished out of Moss today. Got a late start and left the dock at 7. Ran out at 20+ knots. Lines in 9:45 first fish 10:00. Had a long dry spell trolling further south toward the radio fish. Got within 5 miles of the numbers and put 8 more on board before the bite died for us. Best numbers for us were 23 43... the fleet seemed to do best at 17 43 with some reporting 30+.

Headed back in at 2pm with 9 fish 15-20lb. for the day. Ran back in at 25 knots.

We were late to the party but I'll take what we got.

We put our lines in at 55 mi on a 230 from Morro and continued to 62 mi then trolled to the elbow and then back in for about 6 hours on the troll. We had no strikes, never saw a jumper. The water had good color and was 63 degrese. We saw a few birds and limited bait, porpoise and whales. One boater we spoke to said he saw a jumper at about 45 mi and some kind of 10 lb fish at about 35 mi. Two other boats that were out there near the donut got skunked as well.

We fished the coke plant today for a 25lb and a 28lb halibut. Also had the gear ripped up three times by threshers. Another boat also caught a 27lb halibut in the same area.

Talked to one boat in from the tuna hunt with no fish and no reports of any so far.

I have a Force 125 and was wondering if there are any good local techs that work on these that won’t need my first born. I checked the fuel lines and spark but it seems to flood, it will turn over and sputter but won’t stay running. Looking for advice.

Thank you,

Tech Question: I have updated my gps/fish finder to seperate stand alone units. However I kept my Garmin GPS Map 238 sounder as a back up GPS.... So, I want to turn the fish finder on the Garmin 238 off and use it only as a gps. Will both units (Furno FCV 585 and Garmin 238 GPSmap sounder) send mixed signals to each other or interfere with each other? Bottom line is that I want to run my Furno fish finder only.

tim, the weather was nasty and bumpy yesterday. I wanted to run south of where i caught the bft, I'm confident the area is holding lft.

I had something weird happen to me tonight, I took the bluefin down to a local sushi place, they refused to serve it and emphatically told me it was yellowfin, and told me that bluefin is not in this area. I offered to share it with them, they cut it for me and set me up with a bunch of sticky rice for $2. that was nice but wtf. the place was empty and i would have gladly dropped some cash.

So my run out of Morro Bay ended up being a good charge for the batteries. Went to the weather buoy and water temp was 59.5 and scouted that area for nothing. Took a line out to the donut and the temp kept going down. At 45 miles out, the temp was 58.2 so we headed out and found 59 degree water and headed back towards the port. There was some activity around 12 miles out (whales, birds, dolphins) but that was the last we saw of any wild life. The water was a light blue with a greenish tint most of the way. There was a current pushing up from the south with a 15-20 knot breeze from the southeast until noon. No swell to speak of. By mid afternoon the water was nice and we ran in at 22 knots. With the hurricane off Mexico, it may be sending warm water and fish our way but you couldn't tell it by me today. No matter, had a great day on the water. Harrell, thank's for the calls today!

I was watching that Monterey weather as we are poised to go somewhere. It's not nasty but it's nasty enough to make me not want to tow up to Moss.

Without that satellite shot, I'm on the fence for running tomorrow from PSL.

Decisions, decisions!

Did every one look at the weather report for Monterey for the next few days? They are calling for 15-25 knt winds and small craft advisories with mixed swells.San Diego boys! Go south, yellow fin, dorado, blue fin, and albacore.Flat seas perdicted, little longer drive, but the run on the water off sets it.

TUESDAY ALBACORE HUNT PSL

We talked to Marty and if we have four boats or more he will come in at 4AM and launch us. I have not talked to Deke yet but pretty sure he will have bait and be there at 4AM also. I told Marty that I will guarantee 4 boats and and pay the difference if they don't show. So if you plan on going tomorrow be there at 4AM !

The weather still looks great so we should be able to cover a lot of water and find those suckers ! Hope we get chlorophyll today but am not hopefull. If we don't get a shot then will head for the donut.
Let me know if anyone else plans on going. Watch this site for later info.

Waverunner or anyone else I will give it a shot on tuesday if I can get a crew.I have a 21ft striper (the other woman) I have been to the donut and that is the limit of my range. I can take the inside edge of the hunt if needed. My name is Terry phone 260-1509. I will be on 68 on the water. I normally put in at Morro but Avila would probable be better for me for the donut. What time does Avila open and do they have bait?

Hope this transmits been having trouble getting on here since last wednesday. On wed. NOAA and NCEP discussion on el nino indicated the likelyhood of a moderate to strong event this year. One could view the discussion at the following site.http://www.cpc.ncep.noaa.gov/products/analysis_monitoring/enso_advisor y/index.shtml. Lets hope this means longer fishing, bigger waves and wetter winter. We need all three.

I finally have a big enough boat to go for them so keep the news coming and i might be able to make it happen this year. Thanks again!!

Stuart;
Bocciboy has bait in Santa Cruz but none in Moss or Monterey. SC will add 15 miles to the area where the fish are. Jigging your own would be better than an extra 15 miles IMO.

I plan on a tuesday run but not decided here or Monterey. If someone goes tomorrow and finds fish here then here for sure.

Harrel , we may try and Run Tue or Wed from PSL
(Port Seal Lounge!), last Sunday night through Wednesday had boat on the hook and put the bow out to sea a couple times, only to turn tail and
go kidfishing, halibut teasing and pineped viewing.
I would much rather troll offshore than fight off seals in the port, but the wind&chop was in the "unpleasant" zone from the red light onward, and travel would have been too slow for even 25 miles.

BTW amazing to see the broken swim platforms, the spike strips and the snow fencing . used to be we just worried aboutClosed seasons, long lines, South swell, Bad Parking, rental kayakers, driving impaired tourists, and Birdsplat at PSL. Now you have to worry about 5000# of blubber sinking your boat or at least knocking off thousands of $ worth of gear and fittings. will they leave? and what are the eating? sardine? there must have been 3000 seals/lions between the breakwater and fossil point.
