Sounds like a lot of catching going on at the donut. No details yet but a lot of action !!

Rob; The filter was the Racor between the tank and the motor. I just didn't change it often enough.

Today we fished a couple miles NW of the donut for 35 fish. Almost all were caught on dead bait. The bait was 4-5 in sardine and did not hold up well. The bite started the instant we began trolling in a hard 4 degree break but the fish were small so we moved two miles beyond the break in 64 degree water for a wide open bite of mixed sized fish to 20 lbs. Wind was about 10 knots and easy fishing. 46/42

Cloud, that 3" wsb spawn was probably a cucumber fish. If you catch them fresh they smell like freshly cut cucumbers. They look just like a mini wsb. Though I doubt you'd a wanted to smell that one! Haven't seen or heard anything that looked promising for the wsb lately. No squid in the set last night either.

B.a. I am glad to see you put some Tuna on Board. We had a trip planned to San Diego for probably the last time for the year and see if we can put some more Yellow Fin and Dodos on board and maybe a Marlin. So I hate leaving a great Tuna bite here, but I think they will be here for a while, so we are fishing Sunday and Monday. Good luck to local guys on the Tuna bite.

Monday looks like it would be worth a try. Go early and be ready to turn around if it starts to blow. Should stay down until early afternoon so don't stay too late unless you want a long slow ride home. Windfall is out there today and probably be some out tomorrow so you should have numbers to aim at monday. I'll let you know if anything changes.

Still moving slow from a 14 hour day on the water, but with good results. We got 6 nice albies 10 miles west of the donut near Windstone's numbers from Friday. The bite was strong from 10:30 to 11:30 then shut down. We worked the area until 3 for no more fish. All jig fish with one short bit bait bite.

Good luck if you go!

Joy Lyn Fish Report MB Friday 9/11/09

Got about the last of the sardines @ Billy's, fished ocean side of Rock about 1/2 hr for hail mary WSB-nada. Ran to Ab Farm and my fireman friend Cris put on a 12 lb. Hali on third drop, 60 ft. Coupla raked baits then an 8 lb. (est.) Ling for me. Heard another boat fight a beast hooked up in 50 ft. (presumably hali) for about 1/2 hr before the trap's treble pulled. After that the action just seemed to die, along with water movement (kinda weird tide resulting in slow/slack water till much later in day). Judging from what we saw at fish-clean station the overall catch was "fair". Saw one other Hali about same size as ours mixed in with a few RF. Another boat that ran to Cambria had a fair mix of RF. Conditions were calm all day, ran in @ 28-30 kts, hardly a bounce. Thinking the bite would have been better on better tide change & timing.

Log note: The Ling spit up a bunch of fry that sure looked like 3" WSB spawn & remnants of 2 squid, hope thats good news for the future.

Congrats on the LFT's! Cloud out

WEATHER

The forecast has improved a bit. Sunday the wind should stay around 10kts but the swell could be as high as 10 ft. The rest of the week will have less swell but more wind. It will be a daily check to see if conditions will allow a 50 mile run.

B. A. STEWART

What a kick a$$ day yesterday... Cleaned fish by braille at pier but all's well. I want to thank you B.A. first. Then Harold for the coffee & the great info & support at the "Port Seal Lion Harbor" Launch. Also thanks to Deke for awesome sardines (we couldn't have caught anything without live bait) and info. Love to see red blood spilled all over the deck. B.A. waited 40 minutes before he told me I had blood all over my face--Hoorah!! Ate fish tonight--my wife said it was incredible...melted in her mouth. From the wife---thank you B. (sorry, she has a hard time calling you B.A.) for your generosity, friendship, and for getting the old pirate out of the house. Aargh!! Pictures to follow.

P.S. Marty sorry to hear about the loss of your uncle. Hope all is well; Harold and Dele have been doing a great job taking care of the launch. Look forward to seeing you soon.

I could talk to and hear all the other boats out there from the coke plant on my boat. Never did hear you. If you want to drag your boat up to my place we can check both your antenna and radio.

Nice to know that there are fish closer than the donut/1908.

Jim B jr. FYI That wide open bite we couldnt locate was about 63nm on a 230 PSL =about 64.5nm 218 Morro.
Also
"Port Sea Lion "this morning got another victim.
A power boat near the outer SE mooring area got taken down by the Tonnage of Blubber. So if you have your boat on a mooring you better check on it. also there is a 2 masted sailboat down inside/west of the CalPoly pier 2masts sticking up , must be a decent size victim? Saw water taxi and harbor crew investigating early this morn as I puttered back to launch area.
the coast gaurd was in harbor last night, too bad they couldn't have practiced armed security and "scared them off" with those 2 bow guns(50cal+?)

harrell,Thursday could you hear any of Our request for fish coordinates on ch68 or the morro bay guys on your vhf? I could only get bits of info out of their calls and I was a whole lot closer to them than you were? Just wondering if I need a new vhf or antenna? I could hear bits at purisima from the donut "fleet" but couldnt make contact when we were out there 51NM. just wondering.

PSL ALBY(2) Catch thursday.
a bit closer than the morro bay fleet
we go a 27 and a 29 pounder at about 2pm.

34/44 121/25 aprox 42NM on 220 PSL.
Put boat in Wednesday morning and got a half scoop from Deke, went to Purisima with my brother
for a limit of bolinas and a couple hours of halibut teasing(0) by the coke plant on the way home. got seawead in the bait pump and most of the bait croaked on the way home. Sport launch was out of gasoline so We couldnt top off for thursday . Disembarked brother and fish at landing and went to anchor for the night.
thurday AM picked up JIM B. JR and a new load of live Deek dines and headed out into thick fog ,
no significant wind, residual chop so we headed south, couldnt raise anyone on 68 so we turnd in and fished Purisima for near limit bolinas and a nice Bocacio and finally got a partial vhf report for the morro bay fleet. 9am headed offshore dropped lines and headed for the donut.
water was barely over 60f and not too blue so we just trolled down below the donut about 51NM 34/39 121/36 and could hear the slughter but not get a reply or clear numbers.
Trolled back toward PSL and started chumming with the dead dines from wednesday and immediately got a doublestrike and put one in the box. put lines back in and chummed like a mad dog and got another double. maybe the chum brought them up? lost one of that pair. Jim put a live dine on his20# spinmning rod and got bit but didnt stick. chummed a bit more , lots of bait jumping in area, water only 60.3f. trolled til 4.30pm heading back, pulled lines and came into PSL at sunset. dorpped off jim and Fish and went to anchor in peas soup fog until morn.
slipped on foggy dock disembarking and sprainded my ankle (at least not at sea)
Guys at sport launch got me on trailer and I went home to clean boat and and eat sashimi.
Jim B, thanks for fixing my PC hard drive so I could post. ITs on guys, the weather isn't as bad as sail flow and nws said out there.(I dont have a hard top or curtains )
anybody with a boat that can got 40-50 miles and back can do it in a day trip. get em whiel they are hot.

Greetings,
Wow...way to go guys. Are those coordinates the donut?
Fished 'buts today in the skiff. Got a sweet scoop of dines from Deke and headed N. No swell today, but a slight windchop...but no wind. Ended up with 3 halibut from 26-28", 2 keeper lings (released 1 32"), 4 shorts and 2 rockfish. Nice day on the water. No wind until noon and then just a 7-8 knot breeze. Left at 2 and it was still very fishable.
Saw someone at the cleaning station with a T-shark (bycatch while rockfishing) and someone else with 9 'buts!
Good fishing today.
best fishes,
steve

slow going on the travel out of monterey 15knots but once we got out 35 / 58 and trolled quarter swell we did well. 18 fish and left them wfo. the boats that stayed past 3 were hooking nickels and landing them. one commerical hit all 9 lines. heavey fog at times. if any one on the board has a chance to fish with Jon Wood from this site take it. the guy is a Class guy. thanks Jon.

Bruce. Three Buddies fished SD on their rigs today and yesterday for marginal results. Mostly 8 to 15-lb fish, a few larger. Mostly yft with some mahi. They had 20-kts of wind and seas while coming home tonight. I'd stick to MB.

An 11 inch Black Perch and a 15 inch Barred Perch, all on Berkely Gulp 2 inch Shrimp in New Penny color on a Carolina Rig. Always seem to have good luck in September catching Surfperch!

Hey Steve .... swing inside your area for a drift ... WSB are here and have seen some signs up and down the coast the last two weeks that makes it worth a shot. Good luck out there!

The perch fishing today was FullSpeed. Every cast for over two hours was bit. Stop counting after 50 ... No size this time of year, but was a fun day. I will be back at it tomorrow if anyone wants to join. Should be between Morro and Cayucos just North of A beach around 1pm.

I went out of PSL this morning to check the engine that was acting up last tuna trip. It ran fine and I am glad it was only a fuel filter. Trolled the coke plant for a coup;e of hours for nada. Went up to Shell Beach and picked up a dozen bolina and came in.

I heard the boats at the donut/1908 catching tuna. Don't know how many but will know later.

Monterey is catching but again no details.

I was looking at the SST from Tempbreak.com. I don't think they had a Chlorophyll shot. But, that is about the exact spot I was shooting for at this point.
You mentioned in a post a couple of days ago about 5 LFT 35-45 nm that were caught. I had not heard of that.

Have you seen the yesterday's chlorophyll ? 34:40 and 121:50 looks like the place to be at about 60nm. It might be a little breezy on the way home in the afternoon.
