My smoking is also simple. oak and charchol to get smoker to 180-200 degrees. Brine soak meat for an hour, cold. Brine is a non-iodine salt like a kosher salt and brown sugar. Add the spices you like to the brine. After the soak wash off the meat and air dry the meat for 2 hrs. I usally do not add anything else. Meat on the grill for 2.5-3 hrs 180-200 degrees. I belive what adds the best flavor is a combo of the hickery and apple wood that I use. Thats it no big secret. In fact I found most of the recipies on the internet. As far as the canning, the first internet recipie I found was from our own Geo's fish market in Morro. Therefore, I am just passing on info given to me. If this helps anyone else enjoy their fish as much as I do great. I plan on making another run on Sun. Mon. and hopfully Tue. |

Care to share your smoked albacore recipe? Mine tends to turn out a little mushy. As far as canning goes...no need to put oil or water in there. Just a little chunk of belly meat if you want some oil. I also put garlic, basil, chili pepper flakes, jalapaenos, etc... in there for different tastes. I actually think albacore freezes very well if you vacuum seal it. I had stuff frozen from last summer that I pulled out in late winter that was awesome!!! Not as good as fresh, but still better than you can get from the store. Hope to get out Sunday or Monday if the weather lays down. lat, steve |

I canned for the first time on half the last catch and smoked the other. I'll put my smoked albacore against anyone's, I think it is that good. However, one of the jars did not seal yesterday so I tried it...Damn I wish I would have canned years ago. Canned is my new favorite and so easy. |

Hey if any of you guys want some fish canned and don't have equipment we can probably work something out. I have a commercial grade pressure cooker and am blessed with a wife that likes to can tuna! Years gone by we have done 100's of pounds. She does it in water if you want, but the stuff canned in olive oil is off the hook. Anybody fortunate enough to have the problem of too much fish give me a call and lets get that woman WORKIN'! Besides, it keeps her out of the Elkhorn... Keith 805-467-3424 |

Another story about the good guys and the not so good; We were out looking and not doing very well one day a long time ago when we heard Gary, Waverunner finding fish and we ask for the numbers. Another boat came on the radio and said "you don't think he is going to give them to you do you" Well Gary did and we found the fish !! |

LOCATION, LOCATION, LOCATION Most of the time there is no reason not to share numbers, especially when your buddies are not getting bit and you are. Just as in life in general there are givers and takers and fishermen are no exception. I have learned that with a few friends and those that will share you really don't need those that won't. So don't let them distress you. Three of us went out one cold and foggy day searching for albacore. We were searching because we didn't know where they were the day before. I happened to be the lucky boat that hit them first. We boated 11 quick fish and when the bite dropped off I called the other two boats back in giving out the numbers on the radio. When the fog lifted a couple hours later there were 11, yes 11 commercial stick boats on the numbers ! When the fish are primarily jig fish most of the boats will be spread out and not a problem with "congestion". Traditionally as the season progresses the bite shifts from primarily jig fish to mostly bait fish and this is where consideration and protocol are most important: 1. Never get closer than a couple hundred yards from a boat on a bait stop unless called in by that boat. 2.Never troll though another boat"s chum line. 3. If called in always go in above their chum line slowly and shut down early. Do not chum until you are in close proximity as it might pull the school away from them. 4. If you both get bit and lines cross, had it happen more than once, their fish has priority so let line out as they bring in there fish. Most of the time you will save both fish. 5. Make sure your tackle is in very good condition so as not to lose a bait fish as they can take the school with them when they depart. |

Cracka, I have to agree with you on the code b.s. When conditions are less than favorable and you have no fish sometimes chasing radio fish may be the only way to get some. Heck when I first did the albacore thing ten years ago I relied more on radio fish than finding my own. No doubt it is the best to find your own fish, however, beware code people. That ocean is dangerous and think how you would feel if you sent someone on a wild goose chase and something happened. If it was a friend of mine or me I would track your ass down and take a sledge to your hull to keep you off the water. If you don't want to share #'s, get a friggin sat phone or don't go out here. We are not San Diego here. And we don't want your type here either. |

jim g- have you thought about canning some of your albacore? we don't keep much frozen stuff for long because it seems to get gamey after awhile...check it out as for numbers over the radio, its fun to share numbers and keep track of a general area where fish are being caught from radio numbers, but using your own info like a recent temp chart and trying different spread techniques to me is much more satisfying when you catch. hoping to get another shot at the fish on monday. |

Fished today out of PSL, for three in the boat and three lost to sloppy conditions, same #'s as John. Donut triangle strikes again, as our diesel lost 75% of its power on the way in. we chugged home 8 mph with our best friends the Morro coast guard watching us in. Big relief to have these guys on our port side THANK YOU VERY MUCH. Kinda scary not to have a full power vessel on a day like today. Thank the good lord I only lost my lunch today with breakfast and possibly dinner the night before. First tuna of the season, it will only get better. |

Thanks Tim And by the way, what an awesome boat you were in yesterday. I love Center Console boats. My kids run laps around mine when at a lake. I just picture them 10 years from now doing the quad strike chinese fire drill of albacore 10 years from now. I think Devil Dog and I trolled passed you a few times...he had a quad Skippy hook up off your port...he might have been "below deck" making a cappacino at the time..lol.... |

Right on Jim! Tuesday WAS a good day on the radio. A lot of numbers were shared and I'll admit that we took advantage of it. We came on scene a little later than everyone else I think. We found the break and worked it but no fish and then we heard catching. That's always a little frustrating, especially when it looks like weather may close in and possibly cut you short. After an hour or so I decided to head towards Grillo's numbers so we could at least get something in the box and get the morning skunk off. We found fish before arriving at those numbers but nonetheless, as much as I hate to chase radio fish, it helped us out and it was great that the group out there on Tuesday was willing to work with one another. This ain't San Diego where every paddy has been raided. We have very few fishing days in this area due to so many circumstances. We should all work together to make the most of it when we can. |

Fishing Rant: Ok, so it usually takes me about 3 days to get mad...so here it is.... 1) Monday, there must have been 15 boats working the donut area...everytime we hooked up we called out our numbers. I think we did as good Monday as anyone (20 fish). So why do so many local fisherman speak in code? Adding or subtracting a few numbers when getting on 68? I just do not get it. 2) Tuesday, I heard local private boaters telling Michelle (a party boat) their numbers and telling her to get on over there. She likewise put her numbers out. I was proud. 3) I do not claim to know the first thing about fishing in general, but I figure they can swim where ever they want. They obviously like certain conditions such as an upwelling and a certain degree water. Should you be lucky enough to chance across them, good for you. How about letting the rest of the guys out there know? Sure every now and again some Jack A$$ might troll through your bait stop....and when that happens, chastise or educate him on the radio. 4) The good Lord blessed me with a boat that got me there and a pretty good batch of vacumed packed fish in the freezer. If there are some old soldiers out there that have had the same bad albacore luck that I have had over the last 8 years, give me a call at 610-4498. I will slap some fresh fillets in your hand and hope it breaks your slump. Cracka Out |

Cracka, I knew you guys were in for a wet run home. I was running Norm's 26' SeaFox C/C (the black and white sexy Orca looking rig with the black T-top) and we were soaked to the gills on the run home. Probably didn't help the cause that I was running at 23 kts to make it in time to get hauled out! We were geared for the weather, though as I could see you guys were, too. Spent the better part of today washing the saltwater out of all my gear and drying it! |

Ok here are some numbers from Monday and Tuesday. Tuesday 34.59.595 x 121.21.165 (two albies 32 miles from morro) Mon and Tues 54x30,55x29,55x26,56x28,59x27,59x33,59x36 Love my boat but caught a lot of spray with the wind waves. Does anybody know a good canvas guy? Also, most of the fish were gorged on either squid or some type of small shrimp/crill kind of thing. |

Yeah the panty hose trick is for the old v-groove belts and I have heard that it works for those.... B A sounds like you are going to need to start towing a dingy just to carry all that spare mechanical equipment! I know how it is... and you STILL don't have the part that breaks! I used the bait pump to keep a skiff afloat once - it had one of those water pick-ups for the bait tank that attach to the back of the transom and we ran over a sheet of plywood that cleaned the pick-up right off. didn't even know it happened until she started wallowin'. So we just took the suction hose which was now floppin around loose and stuck it in the bilge... I think in an emergency you could cool the engine with one but I would not count on the pump motor lasting too long due to the head pressure. OK I got fresh line, oiled the reels.... I'm ready! |

keith, yes the " water spray chum system" can help bait stops. Jim this is one reason not to run the 100yards back. I have done it on a freinds boat and we loaded up ,but we felt we would have anyway. chunking was the trick for our first 2 fish a couple weeks ago as they werent exactly jumping in the boat at that time. |

keith , glad to hear there is some hope on splicing serpentines. all you guys with serpentine systems should give it a bit of thought as the old ways wont always work with those systems. also consider rigging an inlet just before raw water enters your thermostat housing so you can assist cool with a bait or washdown pump. your I/o pump on alphas or your crank pulley pump on volvos may also keep you cool, but on bravo drives and inboards with 2 pump systems you might consider it. has anyone tried it or pre rigged for it? |

Serpentine belt splice with wire may have worked a bit better, we had overlapped the 8" long joint with gorrila tape 1 layer which seemed to hold well(super duct tape) but the slight bump at the 2ends of the joint would eventually bump belt off circuit. didnt have panty hose but have heard that trick for years , not sure we could keep it on serpentine pulleys(especially if we needed to run it on ungrooved unrimmed pulley like water pump) or find a pair 10+ feet circumference ;-) maybe 2pairs? Im working on splice ideas still for future. we had cut an old belt, WE had 2 onboard, with one pulley out of circuit and both sides of belt are needed to be flat/smooth and be contact points. I had basic spares& belts and kicker but no spare water pump. Im going to try and have her rigged to run off the bait pump in emergency as we could probably run slow with just that source. If i carry a spare pump Im sure to never need it so i will likely do that soon. I have 3 batteries, a kicker with a small charging system, fuel filters, oil filter, oil, tools, spark plugs, service manual, belt, fuel hose, fuses, wire, multimeter, connecters, tapes, spare bilge pump, hose, extra compass, fuel flow meter, auto fire ext,2anchors 300ft line, sea anchor, jumper box, jumper cables,wd40,pfds,ditch bag, spare handheld vhfs/gps s, small batteries, flash and flood.spot lights etc etc. now WE may have to make room for a spare pump Break out another Thousand. BOAT. |

Good info on chunking John. It became my boats ritual to throw chunks first on the slide .. then ones and twos of live with a MegaBait or FishTrap also thrown on the slide. One bait rod with live ... one with chunk. Amazing how often the chunk got bit. Play with it ... Also remember a day on the Graylight with Stuart that we had to shut down on meter marks and chunk. Stu made the right call .... highliner on a VERY TOUGH day out there. CHUNK! |

Ryan...if you can make bait the day before or you can afford buying more bait than your bait tank can hold get it and chunk it up and have it ready in a bucket..any bait that dies get it out of the tank as it will kill other baits and can be chunked up as well....keep a pinned bait swimming in the tank or in another small container so it is ready to flip on a hook-up..if possible someone should hold that rod...when you get a jig fish toss a scoop of chunk fanning it out..the live bait goes out on the slide..forget about the troll fish they are a bonus let them hangand clear the rods not bit..keep tossing the chunk a few pieces at a time get another pinned bait out quick..sometimes the troll fish get away, you want bait fish.... sometimes that happens..try not to lose a bait fish as the fish usually take a hike on a farmed bait fish..we pin a bait and let it out in free spool with the clicker on in the rod holder while we get the troll fish in...I like circle hooks because you just let the rod load up and the fish is hooked and the leader is in the jaw and not in his mouth to get sawed off...I use floro carbon leaders to my hooks about 6' I like a chrome 1oz or 2oz up the line a ways to connect the two lines also let the bait soak sometimes they are down and they will comeup... keep throwing a few chunks while all this is going on..if your crew has set jobs it can really pay off...if you guys can you need two or three gaffs ready..we try to gaff our own fish when possible...that way everyone is fishing ....swim baits and mega baits can be cast as well....good luck John |

Didn't have these numbers last night but wanted to post them up. We caught our last 3 fish yesterday in the immediate area of: 35*03.000N 121*21.000W That's about 30nm on a 245* heading from PSL. I'd sure love to see an SST and Chloro shot about now. |

Tuesday was just fun. Ran out on a 230 from Morro at 0430, threw lines out on 63 degrees @41 mi. Fish on...doubles...triple...no, QUADS!!! That was how the day went. We found water as warm as 65 out East and stayed around it. Trolling back in, water stayed warm, 63 degrees 31 mi. out of morro! It was this area a kelp patty caught me by suprise, I turned to avoid it. I figured I would catch one line in the kelp ....I caught two lines, damn. WAIT the kelps fighting---YELLOW TAILS!!! Fish total was 14 albacore, 2 Yellow tail & 3 skips (lobster bait). Just a fun day. Tree Doc, Cracka, Michelle, and others all working together calling numbers and helping, makes me proud of our little "fish report" community. I'll post my numbers this afternoon. |

B A Stewart, I have successfully "sewn" a serp belt together in an emergency such as yours. I uses some steel wire leader material, and did the twist on the backside, Had to be careful to run the wire down in the grooves but it held up from San Nicholas Island to King Harbor (going EASY). That Sierra pump should work great - I've sold lots and lots of those over the years. They are made by Echlin, the same company that makes NAPA auto parts. Sounds like your particular engine does not like water pumps - it happens. I'd buy two.... As far as the bait stop thing I have one more thing for ya. On a private boat we just don't have gobs of bait to throw of course, but you want to bring 'em up to the boat after the jig stop. First off, as I'm sure you all know you cant have the jigs a mile back there. If the fish wont bite the jigs on top and up close, well you are just probably not going to have a lot of luck with the bait. But when they are on top and close, we have had luck in the past using the washdown hose spraying water off the corner. If you have a good high pressure washdown just set your nozzle to a good strong spray pattern and bungee it to the rail so it sprays out over the water. The idea is that from below, it looks like a small meatball to the tuna, and they will come up to investigate. This seems to have worked best for us on less windy days, of course. And for whatever reason, it seemed to work best on yellowfin. Still willing and able to share expenses and kill tuna if anybody needs a hand - and thanks to those who have made contact. Hail BA Stewart I've heard of--get this--pantyhose working for an emergency belt replacement. I've never had to do, and they may be kinda hard to explain to the crew-or wife-but WTH. I've also seen adjustable belts sold as emergency repair. The pieces "snap" together. At most parts stores (Kragen, Autozone etc.) I can't even imagine trying to replace a serpentine out there. Congrats making it back safe, sound, and with bloodydeck. Friday is the day for us. Joy Lyn/Cloud Out |

Left my boat on the hook and jumped in with Jack on the Boyensea. Head out to 00/40. Sloppy seas but fishable. Put the first fish in the box at 00/39. Water temp was 65.7. Worked from there to 00/37 most of the morning for 10, all jig fish. The wind and drift made it hard to use bait. Started for the barn at 1pm. Put another 10 in the box for a total of 20 fish. Lost another half dozen. The last stop was at about 32 NM all 25-30 lb fish. Seems like a big swath of fish out there. Let's hope the weather cooperates so we all get out there again!! Good luck to all. |

eric summed it up pretty well for tuesday albi fishing. a little sloppy on the way out and you could pretty much troll in the troth across the escarpment and back pretty easily. we stopped at 10 fish, 1 baitfish the rest single troll fish. a black feather with lime green skirt seemed to be the only jig that got bit for us. the bait was the best morro has had by far this year, but it is tough to baitfish in the wind with just two guys. we decided to troll for home at 1pm and see how good the water looked on the way in and could see 62 to 65 temps as close as 25 miles. seems as though the water is pushing in. for those that don't know i run a 22' center console and we were ok in tuesday's weather.we fished pretty much along the 35-00 line from 121-38 to 28. |

Quick Post before I go to work... Fished with Blackie and his son Matt for 16 or 18 fish, 10 or so miles North of the Donut in 64.5 degree water. However, we trolled in towards Morro and put the last two albacore on the boat 32 miles from the harbor entrance. Blackie, You and your boy are HOGGS....It was great to fish with such die hards. also if you over at dads maybe you can pull some numbers off my gps MOB at 32 miles. Oh one more thing, it was sure nice having so many folks call out the numbers. We caught 20 on Monday and a lot of guys were talking in code. |

B.A.Stewart, Just to let you know, we made it to and through my numbers today from Saturday without being engulfed by the mysterious forces that took us both in. Thought I'd comment on Mike Moore's experience as it applied today. Fishing was spotty throughout the day with some catching and some not. We boated several but were cognizant of the time to get in so Marty/Harold didn't have to shut down before we got there so we started in for the long run. We made a stop on the way in some water that I checked first thing Sat morning at about 33 nm from PSL. It was 60* on Sat. Today it was 66.5* We put 3 in the boat on a quick troll there then hauled our butts toward PSL. Just as we got underway, it sounded as if the entire fleet behind us that was previously heading towards Morro, all started going bendo with nice numbers. We darned near turned around and went back but no can do. Hopefully Devildog, Cracka, Robb E and some others will post tonight, we should see some good numbers coming from that late afternoon bite. We also heard a confirmed kill on a Yellowtail off a paddy not far behind us! |

Fished out of Morro today... spent the day near the numbers N of the donut from the last few days. Was the fishiest I've seen it out of Morro in years! Meter marks an birds everywhere. Long story short (tired!) we ended up with 10 nice grade albies and 3 skipjack. All troll fish... singles, doubles triples, quads... farmed way too many fish today! We couldn't get anything to go on bait doing exactly what John does... I don't think the wind helped though as we had a pretty quick drift. Great bait by the way. Sounds like the bite picked up after we headed back in at 2:30... heard a lot of radio fish including yellowtail as we were headed back in. Weather wasn't too bad... wind came up and got a bit choppy but was totally fishable... 20-24 knots out and back in. Felt so good to have that many boats out today and everyone catching!!! Great group of guys and gal to fish with. |

Thank for the thought John, USCG likely frowns on practice during assistance tow. My guys wanted to put in the boat lines and try and pull tuna cord fish in at 10knots + Would give a whole new meanign to "Skippies" if successful. I denied request as I thought it would be bad form to say the least, but the temptation is there when the blue water and 62.5 temp is under you. one of my guy did "untwist" a line for a mileor so but I was keeping foreward watch until the reels clicker gave him away briefly and he complied with the law of the sea and obeyed the skipper, despite the wastefulness in his eyes. I told him if he wanted to troll while on the towline of USCG he would have to attach the line to a soft part of his anotomy and if he got a hookup we were not asking 47231 to stop. he was still thinking about it when my brother told him any fish caught belong to the tow vessel so that was the end of that.:-) |

Evening All Well only 3 boats out today for albies Barbara and Sato had 6 and 2 skippys Norm and Tim had 8 and had Mark had 15 So not bad but they had a little sloppy weather on the way in. I've got a few boats going in the morning so hopefully I'll have more to report tommorrow. I'll be in at 5:00 tommorrow. Also watch the traffic in the morning, diablo is having their outage and it backs up to the freeway. Good Fishin Marty |

Ryan, I wont profess to be the ultimate tuna expert but here is my plan that we will use tommorow. Pull jigs until we hook up or see breaking fish. After hooking up we will leave the boat in motion to try and load up any empty rods. After taking the boat out of gear one of the crew will start throwing some previously chunked bait along with a few live as another crew member clears any clear trolling lines. The remaining crew member will get a baited hook in the water asap, and the rest of us will get baited hooks in the water as soon as we finish with jig fish or clearing line. All the while one crew member will keep a few chunks and live bait going. If nothing happens after the jig fish we start it all over again. |

Plan on running for tuna in the morning/ wen @ 0500. Hope the weather allows a shot dispite the forcast. The forcasts have been jumping around so much anyway. We should have gone mon. B. A. Stewart Glad to hear the you were able to make at least a little lemonade out of the lemons you were delt. Nice job on the tuna under aux. power. About 8 years ago we towed a disabled vessel about 30 miles in out of psl. We knew the guys on the boat we were towing and they were able to catch a couple of tuna while we towed them into port. |

What is the best procedure for a bait stop? We have had most luck on the troll. Used bait on troll, but never much luck on a bait stop except when they are wide open. Can someone please explain the bait stop program when on/off trolling? Thanks Ryan |

WEDNESDAY DONUT WEATHER Tomorrow is a real weird forecast; 15kts NW at 5am to 11am then it is 15kts out of the NE until 2pm when it goes calm in some areas and 15tks NW in other areas and by 5pm it is 10-20 kts NW. It was sloppy out there today and I expect it will be worse tomorrow. The longer range picture looks good for sunday and monday. |

Fish Tale. 9/22monday long day.Tempting Davy Jones during equinox at The "Bermuda Donut". launched afternoon 9/21 sunday and made a dozen baits, got raked twice by butts at just before dark. Settled down by avila for the am tuna run anchoring until Monday. Sunday everyone at port had said how bad the weather was but forecast was mild to medium .Monday picked up crew at 3.55am, only 1 boat lined up at launch that we saw. Deke understandably wasnt there yet and I had a a few leftovers(sardine,anchovy/smelt/misc) that lived the night in the small bait tank. wind had reversed just after sunset and blown counter-trend all night. left harbor on a 226 at 7.5knots and the Q-beam spot/floodlight died, (cord breke inside handle. 6volt lantern and a couple maglights got us by the crab pots and kelp. good phosphor in wake put on a light show /leftover chop mixed swell. At graylight, which came a bit later with the fog we got up to minimum plane about 16knots and trimmed bow down. water went from 60.5f to 62.5f over about 3miles so we slowed(we are likely within half mile or less of Tree Docs last "running" position saturday! , Jim B and I put out the outriggers and rods and noticed a slight engine rattle???, my brother throttled up as instructed to trolling speed and 20second later there was a thud like a rockcod sinker falling to the deck. no sinker on deck. my brother pulled back lever stopped engine, and we moved the icechests and gear to raise the engine cover.temp never got a chance to rise much. Serpentine belt off pulleys, no problem? PROBLEM. Pulley is Gone off of engine circulating pump. Fired up9.9hp honda and headed back toward PSL @ 37.5NM 226mag long day ahead. 3.5knots,calm seas, Guys catching fish nearby heard on vhf 68 that hurt.Called MB USCG to report our situation and they asked for position and speed and updates every 15 minutes. Line on starboard rigger goes off while talking to Morro, My brother pulls in a 30# albacore. now we have a fish on, tuna clone at 3.5knots? We continue to troll until about 32 Nmiles .(steering bravo drive withot power steering for 90minutes is tough) suddenly speeding into view is USCG #47231, they hailed us &asked if we would like a 10knot tow and I was Delighted to accept as it would likely mean 3hours back instead of 8.5++hours if water stayed calm. They sent out a call notifying other vessels in our area of our situation and asking for any volunteers (none replied)(would likely have been different if fishing had been over for the day I hope?)Jim started teasing me about louie loouie. In the mean time we had rigged a shortened spare belt with gorrilla tape over the remaining pulleys ,but it only lasted a half minute each time due to the "lump" at he end of joint overlap. does anyone know how to smooth butt splice a serpentine belt? now throttle/shift lever is jambed into throttle only mode also! WTH, could shift mannualy from back but now something else to fix when we get home. tried to figure out how to cool engine from bait pump but never got that far(adapter to be rigged this winter maybe any one try this yet?) The USCG was professional, courteous responsive etc and we consider it a Super treat to be assisted when major inconvenience was the immediate situation and they were proactive in preventing things from maybe turning to severe distress. Thanks again Skipper and Crew of USCG#47231. Morro bay. They pulled us to a side tow at harbor, performed a vessel inspection of Registration/Fire ext/horn/PFDs/drivers license/flare dates etc and gave us a decal . they offered to take us to a mooring or turn us over to Harbor patrol for final aproach but we declined ,and tiller steerd the kicker into the basin for hoisting out. BTW Water pump is third mercruiser pump to fail since New but is the longest lasting one of the lot and the only one to break off at the shaft, belt was not too tight.my other boat has a 31year old pump OMC/ford that is original with way more hours on it. So Today I ordered a Sierra brand pump, hope it lasts longer than mercruiser pumps?(yes WE have the pulley and belt update on the power steering) hope I cna unjamb the shifter. Tuna are much closer and we're out of action for a few days at least. Tim Foley/Tree Doc, Do you know if the USCG Morro guys can accept a case of Brewed appreciation or some other mariners thanks?? our first time on a uscg tow rope, we have ridden a kicker more miles than I care to remember over the years on several boats at rare intervals and towed our sharebut it is humbling to accept the rope but at the same time nice to get home in the afternoon and be able to clean a fish and get repairs lined up the same day as a breakdown. Now, do I carry a spare Pump in the future? Thanks to my crew Bill,Jeff & Jim Jr for keeping up such good attitude while the days fish dreams thudded into the bilge with that pulley/and pump nose. 1 broken water pump, 1 broken Spot/Flood light, 1 jambed shifter,1-3HR tow, And 1 30#longfin. fishRthere , go get em, they are closer every day. be safe , and salute USCG Morro. |

Quick report: 45 albacore to 34-lbs yesterday. The numbers are stored on the boat but fished well north of the Donut. Best stop was for 16 baitfish late in the day on dines we jigged in the bay = key. Water 65.4. Also had a nice bluefin along with a decent load of longfin 2 days prior (Sat). A big mako tore into one of our jig fish and put on a show. Also spotted a small marlin. So many years without tuna and finally catching again. |

Speaking of big albacore 6 yrs ago ...remembering when those big fish came in not far off Buchon...what a workout! 40, 45 pounders....we had one weigh in at 60 lbs ....hooked something on the jig line that same day burning off line headed straight down cranking the drag down not to be spooled, when the 60# mono gave way on that modified 113-H.....must have been one of those bad boy Yellowfin or Bigeye |
